Kyalami to come back in 2023?

Post by FullMetalJack »

I know we have a saying on this forum of Autosport or it didn't happen.

But a few sources are suggesting that the South African Grand Prix will be returning to the calendar in 2023, once again at Kyalami.

I'm in favour of this. I think to be a World Championship, we do need at least one Grand Prix in each continent, save for Antarctica. I'm not saying I wouldn't want an Antarctic Grand Prix, but it's not realistic.
I like the way Snrub thinks!

Rencken is South African so I see he might have good sources for that.

Overall, there has been few changes for the layout since 1993 when F1 last raced there. Back then it had one of the lowest top speeds on all of circuits even though there were some slower circuits overall.

Wow, I never realised how little of old Kyalami is in the current circuit.

Unless FOM waives it's fee, I can't see that happening, yes the will is there, the want is there, but it's all a question of money:

40 mil US = Close to 600 mil South African Rand. (R595,871,174)

That's a Bathplug load here.
