2021 Styrian Grand Prix - Predicament Predictions!

Yes that's right. Not only are we about to come against a triple-header, but you can put in an early Reject of the Race nomination in that they have the fake Austrian Grand Prix before the actual Austrian Grand Prix this year, just to add extra confusion to organisers like myself :x

And yes, you don't need to check your watches again - it IS indeed 20 years now since Pun Pablo Montoya commented on a deer running across the track.

Oh yeah there's predicting to do. Ok, so if anyone doesn't know what to do, check out the Bahrain thread or post up here. As always, get your predictions in before the end of FP3 to avoid any penalties (I won't be too evil I promise :evil: )

I disagree on a "same list" rule, they could have come up with that on their own in a more stratified season like this one. No excuses for being late though, I agree there.

I agree that having the same list by itself is alright, if the lists were compiled independently. But when you are blatant about it in a competition that is supposedly just for a bit of fun, then that's another matter.

Ducktanian and Tommykl will get half-points at Styria for copying other people's homework.

Not that the crime matters too much - it is a guessing game after all :D but it goes against the spirit of the game and sets a bad example. Next time, please just change a name or something and make it uniquely yours. I don't enjoy handing out penalties :cry: yes I do.

Also next time may I recommend copying Aislabie, as he's the one winning the championship :vergne:

I was a little quicker this week in getting these results out to you, so here goes. The first round in Styria will be interesting, because this could set up a very predictable second race at Austria at the next round. Will our participants get over-confident in their predictions? Only one way to find out.

To start with, the stewards were forced to address the CopyGate scandal by tommykl and Ducktanian in the run-up to this round of Predicament Predictions. The two participants were caught (because they announced it) simply copying the predictions of another player. Of course, nobody knows what is going to happen, so technically two people could guess the same thing. But on purpose, it seems a little against the spirit of the game. More importantly to myself however, I want you to all put some effort in. If one person can copy, next thing you'll all get lazy! Therefore, half points to tommykl and Ducktanian. If they do it again, DSQ :ugeek:

Using double points has made CaptainGetz12 our winner at Styria. Even without those double points Getz was a points leader tied with Klon and UncreativeUsername37, making it a truly deserved victory. As you can see, a higher points average than what we've seen for a few races. This also makes Getz the first repeat winner of 2021. All the championship front-runners bar Ducktanian were there or thereabouts, so how do the overall standings look after eight rounds?

So that did some fascinating things to the standings. Ducktanian, with a small result in Styria, only drops one place down to third. However, it is Getz who makes the biggest change: up 9 places from 11th to runner-up after one race. This shows just how tight the regular runners are in the standings, and how one good race can shove you up the order. tommykl, mired in the pack, drops to 15th from 9th. Elsewhere, dr-baker is the best-placed runner who has not yet used double points.

However, Aislabie's excellent run of points finishes shows that, even without the double-points boost, they are a force to be reckoned with come the rest of the championship. mario and RAK are keeping quiet and consistent, while Bleu, Enforcer and Fetzie are all likewise putting in great finishes each weekend. There's no reason to doubt that anyone from the regular pack could win this in the end. Hermann95's double points haul also promotes them into the top 10.

The sizeable gap remains between Aislabie and the rest of the pack. Can it remain? Maybe we'll find out in Austria. See you then :dance:
