2021 British Grand Prix - Predicament Predictions!

Welcome to the British GP! So, as you all know, it's the first ever F1 sprint race coming up this weekend, and I for one have been thinking long and hard about how I might incorporate that into predicament predictions. My decision is as such:

Instead of having our usual "Pole position" guess for 2 points as normal, instead this weekend we will guess the top three of the sprint race. In real life those runners get 3-2-1 points, so that is the points system I will use for this as well.

I thought it would be a better idea than having everyone do the same bloody thing all over again with "Reject of the sprint race" and all that jazz. If you want to do that, by all means enjoy yourselves :D but I'm not going to make it compulsory.

THEREFORE our blank slate for this weekend at Silverstone is as follows:

As you can see, SR1-3 means Sprint Race 1st 2nd and 3rd. This means that the total number of possible points earned from this weekend rises from the usual 41 points to 45! HOWEVER, double points will be counted as normally, so only the pole position winner will earn the usual 2 (therefore 4) points. I think this is a fairer system than having people with the ability to earn more points with double than an ordinary weekend.

There is always a point for the funniest race title you can come up with. The Minor League Premiership for this round contains Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher, Yuki Tsunoda. You can also use double points at any time you like :)

ROTR: Pierre Gasly (his sprint crash means that he DNSs)
IIDOTR: Sergio Pérez (for mastering the sprint format)

Good luck everyone! The deadline is the end of FP3 what is now FP2, but in layman's terms the final practice before the sprint race unless you want any points taken off :dance:

Ok an interesting result all round. On one hand the sprint race was in hindsight a very easy way for folks to take in a huge haul of points - guessing a ham-bot-ver got an automatic 3 points and maybe even a 6-pointer for those who guessed it exactly.

On the other hand, the gap between first and last was far more exaggerated than the tight fields we've seen almost every race so far. We had lots of people guessing Vettel in the points, or the sprint being ROTR, and almost nobody correctly guessed the last few places at all. So in the end the points were scattered a lot more than normal, and it makes the championship interesting for sure. First of all let's look at the result from Silverstone:

So Fetzie uses double points to take their first win of the season (since the 2020 Australian Grand Prix :pantano: )! Being high up in the standings already, the double points usage boosts them up to 3rd in the championship and right next to the front.

For the rest of the frontrunners it was a tale of two races. Aislabie and CaptainGetz12, who were 1st and 2nd going into the race, both scored ... ok results. Not great, but not terrible. Looking at their chief rivals in dr-baker, UncreativeUsername37, Bleu and RAK, all of them scored very highly indeed and all narrowed the gap. Remember the top four have all used their double points, and so the scores could change any day. A shout-out has to be made to Batty for scoring really well, in a real growing turnaround in form. So yes, basically everyone is closing in on the championship. Aislabie yet again holds their lead, but everyone from Fetzie down to Miguel in the standings has closed the gap in the points at least a little bit. Watch out frontrunners, there's a championship challenge coming!

Ahh, what could have been if I had used double points as planned at my home round... Still, I'm ahead of my rival from last year, RAK.

Rival from 2019 as well. :D

That said, if you'd used your double points here, it'd be a haul of points that'd be hard to contend with later on...

Hope I do get that luck when I finally use it! I think my best ever round in this was Italy 2011, so...
