Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Qatar 2021 (POLL)

Post by Londoner »

1. Fernando Alonso. The old dog has tons of life still in him, that'll be a very popular podium earned entirely on merit.

2. Lance Stroll. P6 from outta nowhere!

1. Alpine

A perfectly executed weekend and deserved podium for Alonso. With Ocon putting in a spirited drive to defend from Perez and then hold up Stroll and the Ferrari's.

2. Stroll

Where have you been? The best race of the season from him after months of seemingly being AWOL.

Alpine.

Obviously Nando got the headline 3rd place, but Ocon also did really well in 5th, all while making the one stop strategy, that other people blew up tires with, work. Should go to the whole team.

1) Fernando Alonso: Showing that old dogs can keep learning new tricks, Alonso proves that he's still a better driver than many that have entered the sport after him - or will enter next year, for that matter.

2) Esteban Ocon: Joining his stablemate in the points, looks like it was a good weekend for Alpine.

Honourable Mention: Lance Stroll - a strong sixth place.

As you say, Alonso certainly put in a fine drive, but at the same time Ocon backed that up with a solid 5th place, having withstood quite a bit of pressure in the latter part of the race.

Stroll, too, had a surprisingly strong run to 6th place as well, and deserves recognition for that - a solid performance, and likewise doing well to fend off pressure from the Ferrari's there too.

No contest really

Alonso: I never thought I’d see him on another podium again.

Alpine: Just when it looked like their grip on 5th was being loosened they go and deliver this

Stroll: His best result of the season outdoing the faster Ferrari’s on merit

Fernando Alonso: Amazing qualifying followed by a great start. Near the end of the race, I was expecting Pérez to catch him, but he managed to take a very impressive third. :D

Honorable mention: Lance Stroll: Where did that come from? :o

1. Alpine as a whole - Fantastic weekend capped out with Alonso back on the podium and an almost guaranteed of 5th in the WCC.

2. Lance Stroll - Would honestly put the entirety of Aston Martin here as overall it was one of their strongest showings of the season, as Vettel could have finished 4th or 4th if not for his turn 1, lap 1 exploits. But Lance put his best drive of the season.

Can't think of anything new here either.

There are three obvious drivers, everyone knows who they are and there is a pretty obvious rank for gold, silver and bronze: Alonso, Ocon and Stroll. If only all awards were so easy.

This is pretty easy

1. Alpine - 3rd and 5th. Great showing.

2. Stroll - 6th place.

I have to admit that last few races, Stroll had seemed to become this year's Mr Anonymous. He made up for it here though.

Alonso and Alpine generally really. The team has been making progress - not always noticeable and Nando showed he'd lost none of his guile and accumulated years of racecraft. The Alonso 'model' of driver is one that, like Raikkonen, may not exist for very much longer if at all. Excellent result on many levels.
