F1Rejects IRC channel

Post by Nuppiz »

Due to the general unreliability of Zippychat as a virtual series broadcasting platform, and having noticed that quite often those commentaries tend to go quite off-topic, I started to look for a more reliable platform which is easy to use, doesn't require any external programs, is available always when needed and can be used for general discussion, not just race commentary. So I've gone with WebIRC, provided by a service called Mibbit.

It's almost as simple to use as Zippychat. On the front page, you'll see a large picture of a frog. Right next to it are two links - "Sign Up" and "Launch App". You can sign up for the service if you want, but it seems that it is entirely possible to use the service without registering by clicking on the latter one of the links. Then, we get to a screen like this:
Image

The most important bit is the server where we'll connect - for compatibility reasons, I suggest everyone will always use the main Mibbit server. Then, you can choose your nickname and the channel where you're going to join. This is where it gets interesting: you can input anything you want to the "Channel" field and if the room doesn't exist, it will be automatically created for you! Very useful if you want to quickly create a channel for a virtual racing series.

So, let's at least try to see how this works, right? The channel #F1Rejects exists already, so feel free to join in for a chat.

After some digging, I found a direct link to join the chat immediately: http://chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.mibb ... 3F1Rejects

So yeah, looks like this requires registration if you want to keep your nickname for longer than five seconds at a time. Damn...

Is anyone else having problems connecting? I keep trying to join but mibbit keeps creating a new room for me, despite the fact that #F1Rejects already exists and apparently has 4 people in it...

Alright, we are a little less than half an hour away from October 1 and the beginning of a fun game for all ops, admins and halfops in the chatroom. It's the...

Klon Kick Kount

The rules are very simple:
* From October 1 to October 30 the contest will be who can kick me the most. Every approved kick earns you a point, the guy with the most points at the end of the month wins.
* A kick is approved when the majority of people in the chat agree with it being reasonable.
* You have to kick the actual individual who is most commonly associated with the username "klon" - naming a friend klon and kicking him does not kount.
* Kicks during live reports of my Alternate F1 and during live races of F1RWRS do not kount either.
* There might be one or two days during the month where no kicks are kounted, but there will be updates within the chat on that.

Okay, can someone explain to me why I can't connect to any channel at all now?

EDIT: I can't even join on my phone. I have no idea what's going on here. :| Although since I can't rejoin, I'll just say it here. Phoenix, you are an ass. :P

For awhile, Pidgin and my web browser were both giving me a lot of shite about connecting. Can't remember what I did to fix it. Try googling your error messages (if any).

Don't have any. I just can't join any channel on the mibbit server. Any other server, sure, fine. Mibbit? Nope. :|

We have got to ditch Mibbit in favour of a better IRC network. They've been all over the place recently.

Let's just wait for a while, if the problems persist for a week or so then we should look at another network. GameSurge could be a good alternative, they're very reliable and there's plenty of room for new channels.

I think it should be Freenode or something else, as GameSurge is mainly for multi-player gaming. :ugeek:

Besides, much of our discussion revolves around games anyway through live race commentaries, so it's not that wide off the mark.

What does op stand for? Official Patrol? Anyway, the chat is crazier than the forums in my opinion, but something like that to annoy people is out of hand and quite honestly immature, especially if the person kicked was not doing anything seriously wrong. I have only the slightest idea as to what happens there as I've been there about a total of 20 times, only 3 of which actually saying something for the most part, so have other people discuss it, to see if others agree with you.

I banned you, because we're sick of hearing about Aurico. If you promise to stop bringing them up then I'll let you back in, but cause any more unnesecary drama and you're gone for good.
