Shame there was no outside view of that - where did that Benetton come from? It looked like he was at fault.

A real shame to trash that car. As for the Panoz....nah, no-one cares, do they??

At 0:35, there's just a little bit of that Benetton's nose coming into the shot. I'm debating whether the Panoz squeezed the Benetton to the grass once the Benetton got alongside, or the Benetton driver was a bit too optimistic in trying to overtake on the straight.

I'm leaning towards saying that the Panoz is at fault for failing to leave sufficient space for the Benetton after they got side-by-side. At the point where the Benetton's nose comes into the shot, that's when the Panoz appears to make a serious attempt to cover the left side of the track, which is a no-no. Once that Benetton got his nose alongside the Panoz's rear wheels, the Benetton earned the right to the space, which the Panoz didn't leave and actually instead squeezed out.

Hopefully I didn't miss something that clearly points to the Benetton being at fault...

Of course that was an utterly boneheaded accident. Now we got two old race cars that might never see the track again.

the Benetton was completely totaled, quite a shame, and remarkable how much the car disintegrated within full view of the camera

Watka is quite right in his/her edit but I would suggest that the idea of a Pacific overtaking the Panoz is optimistic at best :D

I'm not going to dictate whether you folks should laugh at this or not, but the safety standards at this track look absolutely appalling. Also, keep the volume down at the video's halfway point because the radio stuff is annoying, especially when it starts getting "censored" when two idiots have their own demolition derby. Those marshals at the infield... *shudders*

I'd personally consider this rejectful not in a humorous way, but more of a -type. This crap apparently happens a lot at this track too.

The Red Bull website reports the incident:
"A wise man once said: when the going gets tough, the tough hide under the table."

That wise man's name was Edmund Blackadder (the Third) - as reported by Baldrick, though I had it in my head that it was Arnold Judas Rimmer.
James Allen, on his favourite F1 engine of all time:
"...the Life W12, I can't describe the noise to you, but imagine filling your dustbin with nuts and bolts, and then throwing it down the stairs, it was something akin to that!"

At the moment I'm going through the BTCC 2011 Season Review DVD.

Somehow I had completely forgotten that Andy Neate's ££££££ had bought him a decent seat that season with the AON Ford team. I did have a vague recollection of this prime piece of idiocy though.

Oriol Servia attempts to enter low earth orbit, Laguna Seca 2001.

Actually, the whole of that Laguna Seca race is worth watching if you've got a couple of hours spare. It's one of the biggest shitshows you'll ever see, on and off the track. I'm fairly certain this was the weekend that nailed CART's coffin shut.

That is.....an unusual accident. An example of why having sand everywhere on the run-off areas is not a great idea.

Given that the race was being lead by Max Papis with Memo Gidley second (wasn't he always rubbish?) I may well give this a view at some point!

God 2005 is easily the worst BTCC season in the modern era. Low car counts and awful driving standards even by BTCC standards across the whole season.

Came across some Football reject gold today.

Ever heard of 'The Other Final'? It was an international match held on the same day as the 2002 WC Final between the two lowest ranked teams at the time, Bhutan and Montserrat. It was hosted by Bhutan at their rather unique National Stadium in Thimphu. A documentary was made about the lead up and the match itself. The whole film is worth a watch but if you want to skip straight to the match it starts around 55:00.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSQyW5ItTfw

It even features a dog invading the pitch. :D Shame this didn't become an annual thing.

Also here is highlights of Australia's massacre of American Samoa during 2002 WC qualifying with some scathing voice over, this coming before Australia moved to the AFC from the far weaker OFC.

I don't think annual thing would be good but quadrennial definitely would be good. To have suitable preparation, I counted from the end of 2017 backwards which teams have gone longest without a win or draw. And this year we would have had all-Caribbean match-up with Bahamas and Anguilla. Bahamas had slightly shorter losing streak in time, so I would give them home advantage.

There are a few of these videos on YouTube exploring the factory. Basically anything that had any worth or wasn't nailed down was sold and / or nicked.
The reception area is quite different to the way it was laid out during the Arrows and Super Aguri occupation. I never went back into the factory after the summer of 2006.

This reminds me just how much formula one facilities are often passed around to different teams, like the Simtek building still in use today by Haas.

Are there any other F1 team facilities that aren't being used and were left abandoned, for F1, motorsport, or otherwise?
