Going to be doing a Level 3 BTEC extended diploma in Music Technology the week after next! I'm really looking forward to it, but it has a weird shopping list...

Never before have I needed to have a pair of headphones for my education! Hopefully should be a lot of fun.

I see your half-GCSE in Citizenship and I raise you a GCSE in 'General Studies', which was practically a pub quiz. A complete waste of everyone's time.

I had to do General Studies for AS level as I was too lazy to opt out of it! One paper seemed to be all about "Why people watch soap operas" (which I got to leave early as I threw up in) and in the other paper I wrote an essay about robots taking over the world. It was the weirdest exam I've ever done.

When you were at school did anyone get a part time job? Because I could be getting a small job at Argos over the Christmas Period. I've already applied for it and am just waiting on a response from the management.

Didn't have the time. A boarding school day involved breakfast at 7:30, assembly at 8:30, school day from 9 am to 6 pm (seriously!), supper/dinner from 6:30 to 7 pm, then homework time from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Oh, and Saturday school from 8:30 am to 4 pm. And had to be in for homework from 7:30 to 9 pm on a Sunday, I think?

Yep. My dad went and enjoyed it and he thought I would benefit from the education there. Same school and boarding house as Tony Fernandes. And Tim and Jeremy Vine for British readers.

I don't get homework… yet

I do a paper round and I think I get £25-£30 a week from that and I am hoping to get a part time job soon but I am keeping my options open right now although I hope to go back to where info my work experience because it was the best 2 weeks of my life.

Yes, I worked in a pastry bakery. It was great. Gave myself a small liver problem because of it. The people there were always told me to eat whatever I wanted, because everyone does for a little while and sooner or later they get sick of it.
I didn't.
I had to leave after 4 months because my liver was bathplug. Too much sugar, raw eggs and creme patissier. I wasn't eating when I got home in the evening because I was so stuffed with cake and pastry dough.

Sounds a bit like my school day, though I was only incarcerated in the boarding house for the sixth form. At least that was a little more like the open prison that Jonathan Aitken found himself in than the Colditz experience it would have been beforehand...

Yes, I worked in a pasty bakery. It was great. Gave myself a small liver problem because of it. The people there always told me to whatever I wanted, because everyone does for a little while and sooner or later they get sick of it. I didn't. I had to leave after 4 months because my liver was bathplug. Too much sugar, raw eggs and creme patissier. I would probably have the same problem. After all, type 2 diabetes has environmental factors as well as a genetic tendancy...

As I've mentioned many times on the chat, I moved into my accommodation yesterday, and it's pretty good. There's a decent bunch of people in my block so there should be some good times over the next few months. Ipswich isn't too bad either. Then again with Lowestoft being easily the worst town in the entire country, it's not too difficult to be superior than it. :P

Induction to my course is tomorrow morning. Timetables are already online. Four-day weekends every single week for the first year = WIN.

As I think I have said here before, my mum said that Ipswich was the worst place she ever lived. Despite that being where I was born. :? But Needham Market seems nice and quaint to me. And better than south Essex!

Anyway, just completed Freshers' Week at Brunel (my 6th and last Freshers'! :( ). Loads of newbies to the Christian Union, and I have signed up for the Baking Society! Just now looking forward to submitting a 4000-word essay in week 5, a 2 1/2 hour presentation in week 6, then another mammoth essay before Christmas. So thankfully only contact time is Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Although I imagine there will be a lot of presentation meetings with others at other points...

YOU have lectures on a SATURDAY? :o  I thought having a three-hour lecture from 6:30 - 9:30 on a Monday evening was harsh in my first year...

If it is any consolation, I had one of my final year exams on a Saturday morning during my undergraduate course. Added to that, unlike most other institutions, my 1st year at university counted towards my final degree classification - only a low weighting, mind you, but it definitely meant that you had to work hard from the very beginning of the course.

I'm intrigued as to where where you studied now...

As for me, like other universities the first year counted as nothing more as a year to become acclimatised to the university lifestyle but I still felt I had to put myself in the shop window with a good start. As it goes, I did okay and was offered the chance to jump straight on the MEng course, so it means I'll be hanging on for another year as long as I keep up my level of work.

For me, Saturday is hangover/drinking day.

I thought that I might have mentioned this in the past, but perhaps I am mistaken - I was at Imperial College (and given the reputation of that institution, you might not be so surprised now that I tell you that).

Oh yeah you're a Radio Enthusiast so hope you succeed in that but what does BSC stand for? It must be a bit lonely being the only F1 Enthusiast in Uni and it will probably happen to me as well.

Thought I'd bump this thread, considering my Motorsport Design project is pretty relevant to most of our interests, I guess.

We have to design a car for this, which looks like a lot of fun. I've been given the aerodynamics mantle, so my job's to make the car we design look as pretty and efficient as possible...whilst not being allowed to use CFD. Time to scour the regulations for some loopholes...

That looks like a very interesting and great project indeed!

I remember earlier this year, being in 7th grade in the states, I'm one of the 10 smartest kids in my grade, apparently. 6 of them are gifted students and I'm one of them. So, we had this project going where we built cars using mousetraps as the "engine," if I may. It required quite a bit of concentration, quite a few parts, and making sure you didn't get any superglue on yourself. It was great fun, and we did some experiments with these.

There is also a program in my school where people get to build their own cars with solar energy as the main power source, and you try to create the best design. In the end of your designing phase, you get to race them against other school districts in our area of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately for me though, it's for girls only (no really, it's to get more girls interested into math, science, and engineering). Oh well, I'll work with mousetraps for now :P

If I can be of any help, count me in. Especially for the loopholes. I do have the enviable honour (?) of having the most disqualifications for 'technical deviations outside the spirit of the regulations' in the 2003 ASCAR championship (3 in 8 rounds; 13 races).
I reckon I've got a nice trick up my sleeve for my GT3 season this year as well.

We have to design a car for this, which looks like a lot of fun. I've been given the aerodynamics mantle, so my job's to make the car we design look as pretty and efficient as possible...whilst not being allowed to use CFD. Time to scour the regulations for some loopholes...

Just out of curiosity, what course are you taking and at what college? :)

Motorsport Engineering at Herts, it's not a bad uni for that sort of thing...

I reckon I've got a nice trick up my sleeve for my GT3 season this year as well.
I've printed the regulations, I'll read them a few times at different times and I'll send you a message.

That would be amazing, thank you! If my lecturer allows us to do the actual design AND build of a 750 Formula car in my third year (if I don't get on the Formula Student team) then any ideas could be put into actual practice.

I hope it goes well for you and your team mates. I am very interested to hear how it progresses.

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?

Moving away from the motorsport theme of the thread for a moment, I can't believe that I'm now less than 4 months from my final scheduled deadline on my second degree. By the summer, I should be DR Baker, BA BSc!!!

Speaking of academic achievements, although mine is much, much less satisfactory and noteworthy than the soon to be Dr Baker, I recieved my 'O' Level Results about two weeks ago. This exam is probably the biggest in Singapore as it determines whether a student progresses to 'A' Levels, which only a minority do, to plolytechnic, the majority choice, or just the dreaded ITE.

Well, thanks to Additional Mathematics and Combined Humanities, I got 13 points, which means I'll be heading to A Levels! Well, I have not got the official posting yet, but I'm happy for the moment.
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Well done, WaffleCat!

My ylioppilaskokeet (matriculation exams) start in two weeks with the first part of Finnish test and the foreign language listening comprehension tests, which for me are Swedish and German, having passed English already. Then there's a 'study holiday' and on March 10th, the exams start.

And on Monday, I'll be heading to Switzerland to visit CERN as a part of Trans-Atlantic Sciemce School. I'm so exited about that! :D

I am NOT going to be a doctor! Otherwise I would have written Dr instead of DR. I am David Richard Baker. I will graduate with my second Bachelor's (undergrad) degree, one in the Arts and the other in the Sciences.

And you are simply at a different stage of life, you can get to university level when the time is right and if that is what you wish to do.

Interesting project - would have loved to have done this myself if I had the chance :(

Just reading down at your further post, are you part of the Formula Student team this year?

Here's an easy trick learning the word "behind" en la clase de español.

Detrás is behind. Just like Délétraz!

In fact, when I first learned what detrás was, I immediately thought of the paydriver legend.
