24) Which was the highest car number ever used in Formula 1, and who used it?

Does this include the period where cars were given numbers at each race (eg. Fangio was #1 at Silverstone in 1950, but #34 at Monaco), or only when 'season long' numbers came in?

All races. But it doesn't make a difference anyway.

I'm sorry, I made a mistake. Actually, there are only 2 female drivers who entered a world championship GP in the 70s. So for every correct one, you get half a point.

Here the correct answers for the 1970s Quiz:

1) Which car was designed by Luigi Colani?
Answer: The Eifelland E21. The car with its unusual design suffered from cooling issues and was not very fast.

2) Which constructor built the first car entered by Frank Williams?
Answer: Brabham. Most people answered de Tomaso, but the first car which Williams entered was a Brabham for Piers Courage in 1969.

3) The crash of which driver allowed the Connew team to participate in the 1972 Austrian GP?

Answer: Henri Pescarolo crashed his March, allowing Migault in the Connew to take the final grid spot.

4) Which driver took part in a Grand Prix without qualifying for it?

Answer: Hans Heyer took part in the 1977 German GP, after failing to qualify for it. He retired with a mechanical failure, and was later disqualified anyway. Most people got the correct answer.

5) Name all Formula 1 drivers who had a constructor named after themselves during the seventies. (And drove for that constructor) (0.11 points per correct answer)

Answer: Jack Brabham, John Surtees, Bruce McLaren, Graham Hill, Chris Amon, the Fittipaldi brothers Emerson and Wilson, Brian McGuire, Arturo Merzario, Hector Rebaque were the correct answers. The question was answered with different success, but everyone knew at least four of them. Only tommykl and SuperAguri got a perfect score though.

6) What do the names of the March and the Arrows team have in common?

Answer: They're acronyms formed from the names of their founders. Most of you knew the answer to that one.

7) Who missed a race after leaving the circuit early, thinking he had failed to qualify?

Answer: Otto Stuppacher, in the 1976 Italian GP. He failed to qualify, but later, three drivers, including James Hunt, had their times disqualified. But Stuppacher had already left, allowing Hunt to take the start. It turned out to be one of the more difficult questions, with only five correct answers.

8) Who is the only driver who failed to score a point, while his teammate became world champion?

Answer: Dave Walker, who scored not a single point, while Fittipaldi became champion.

9) Which team won a race in the 70s, despite only scoring 7 world championship points during its existance?

Answer: Theodore, they won the 1978 BRDC International Trophy, with Keke Rosberg.

10) Which drivers who competed during the seventies started their careers during the 50s? (0.2 points per correct answer)

Answer: I thought there were only 5 answers to that question: Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren and Jo Bonnier. But Mario pointed out that Pete Lovely also entered races in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and earned 1.2 points for this question.

11) Which unusual engine was put into a Lotus in 1971?

Answer: A Pratt&Whitney turbine engine. The experiment wasn't really successful in Formula 1.

12) Who is the only driver from Liechtenstein who entered a Grand Prix?

Answer: Rikky von Opel, who did some races for Ensign.

13) Name the female drivers who competed in Formula 1 between 1970 and 1979. (0.5 points per correct answer)

Answer: Lella Lombardi and Divina Galica

14) When did the Maki start a race for the only time?

Answer: 1975 Swiss GP at Dijon, where it scored an 11th. I didn't expect that question to be that difficult, but only mario had the correct answer.

15) Which is the only continent not visited by Formula 1 between 1970 and 1979 (apart from Antarctica)

Answer: As most of you knew, it was Australia/Oceania. The only asian round was the Japanese GP at Fuji, and the only african one the South African GP at Kyalami.

16) Which is, until today, the fastest formula 1 race (with the highest average speed) not held at Monza?

Answer: 1970 Belgian GP, the last one at the old Spa-Francorchamps track, which had only one slow corner with La Source.

17) Who scored the first GP start, the first points, and the first win for a turbocharged engine in Formula 1?

Answer: Jean-Pierre Jabouille. When the Renault-Turbo actually finished, it was quite successful.

18) What is, according to Chris Amon "the best chassis he ever sat in"?

Answer: Now that one was difficult. It was not, as one would assume, a Tyrrell, Matra or Ferrari. It was, ironically, the rejectful Tecno PA123/6. Only mario knew the answer to this question.

19) Which german university was involved in the Kauhsen project?

Answer: It was the University of Aachen. The car was still an epic fail.

20) Which Argentine constructor built a car and engines, but never turned up for a Grand Prix

Answer: Berta. The ambitious project of Oreste Berta never turned up for a Grand Prix, after his engines proved to be significantly down on power, and had a poor reliability. He tried to get used Cosworths from the Fittipaldi team instead, but the deal fell through, and Berta never ran at a Grand Prix. Only Super Aguri and mario managed to answer this one correctly.

21) The first Japanese Grand Prix was the first race for a tyre manufacturer, and the second Japanese grand prix the last race for a different one. Name the two tyre suppliers.

Jesus, tommy, that quiz was hard. Answered most questions with "Some Bloke" and had the foggiest of ideas for some other questions.

However,I bet a million quid that I did better than pasta_maldonaldo  .
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

(Unless pi doesn't care, that is).

It's ok. When we're through all the decades, that doesn't mean there won't be any more quizzes. I can easily ask more than 30 questions about each 10 years of Formula 1.

21) Who finished a race despite doing a backflip after a collision with his teammate?

I'm going to be sick when I see the answer to this. I've seen it, I know what race, what team, what livery and who the team-mate is. But not the guy who backflipped...

25) Which three circuits had additional chicanes built into them following Senna's and Ratzenberger's fatal accidents?

Permanently or temporarily (ie. tire chicanes)? I'm guessing you mean permanently, but I want to be sure.

Oh, sorry, I meant temporary chicanes, which were only used in 1994, or in one case, 1995 too.
