There are good news on the Life. An Italian scale model company called CP Model has shown prototype builds of their brand new model of the Life L190. This is the only widely-available (ish) scale model of this car. I haven't seen it personally, only photos of it but I have spoken to a couple of friends who saw it at the Nurenberg Toy Fair a few weeks ago. It looks ok, but a bit too bulky.

You can get quite a lot of reject cars for £15 on eBay. Fortis and Pacifics spring to mind immediately, but they'll be diecast build Onyx models, quite old and not as good as some other manufacturers. HRT and Virgin / Marussia models are expensive and they are only made by one manufacturer, Spark. You should be able to find Midland and Spyker, possibly even Super Aguri, models made by Minichamps for that price.

I was half expecting you to say something like "but the build quality is too good".

Since I posted this, I've been to Grand Prix Models and seen a couple of castings of the Life. It still looks bulky but there is a fair bit of dimensional deviations between different castings, so it could be a case of finding a slightly better one.

A very old model of Luis Perez-Sala in the Minardi from 1989 (model released in early 1990, I remember when it came out, so it's over 23 years old):

Ah man I'd love that Minardi! The box with the logos on really adds to it in a way the generic Minichamps/Onyx ones don't. It makes it look far more official and special.

Indeed. If every model maker was like that with the logos, I'd rave about them 24/7. But, I don't have the time

Or the money to get them, for that matter :x

And its got that 'animal' logo behind the driver on the airbox that makes the car complete.

Ok, not so much on here, but a McLaren 1990-1991 or so dont look good with a blank rear wing or some black squares etc.
Miserable Thierry (Boutsen) staggers round mostly on ten cylinders (out of 12) with no clutch, low oil pressure, bad brakes and no grip to finish tenth, 3 laps down...

(Murray Walkers review of Boutsen's Brazil 1991 race).

Thats a point these days!

It seems they did make the TF101, but it's obvious that's not the basis for the showcar. So, I don't know what car it could be...certainly not a TF102 because the bargeboards are too big and the flicks on the sidepods (with the Travelex logo) are a different shape. Looking through the 2001 cars, I think the showcar might be a Prost AP04.

TF101 model for reference:

Yes, of course that would make sense due to Prost's withdrawal.

I have a lot of die-cast models, but not so many are rejectful.

Tyrrell P34 (the six-wheeler)
Williams FW16 (the car that killed Senna)
Lotus 49B (Graham Hill's 1968 title winner)
Benetton B192 (Schumacher's first winning car)
Ligier JS39B (double podium in 1994)
Lotus 79 (greatest ground-effect machine ever)
Ferrari 310 (the first Schumacher Ferrari)
Ferrari 641 (Prost's Ferrari)
Toyota TF108 (second-best Toyota F1 ever)
McLaren MP4-23 (Hamilton's 2008 title winner)
Williams FW26 (the walrus-nose)
BAR 006 (best car never to win a GP?)
Renault R26 (Alonso's 2006 title winner)

plus many more metal and plastic toys

Williams FW16 - Hill
Benetton B192 - Brundle
Ligier JS39B - Bernard
Ferrari 310 (which is actually the 1995 chassis in 1996 livery!) - Irvine
Ferrari 641 - Prost
Toyota TF108 - Glock
McLaren MP4-23 - Hamilton
Williams FW26 - Schumacher R
BAR 006 - Button
Renault R26 - Alonso

Not really models per se, but I'm in Montreal at the moment, and in an F1-dedicated shop, I saw an album with individual photos for purchase. Of coursem I took the three reject photos I found :D

I've got Andrea Montermini, Taki Inoue in the Footwork and Bertrand Gachot in the Pacific. Scans up when I get home in a couple of weeks.

It's packing up in Bristol too. I suspect their strategy of hardly ever updating their stock and charging ludicrously high prices for everything played a part. It says it all that even with everything in the shop reduced, I still couldn't find anything in there that I wanted to actually buy. It's a shame to see it bite the dust, but it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. The fact I could import stuff from Japan for less than it would cost me to buy in my local ModelZone really does explain a lot.

They're packing up everywhere. The good news is that there are some nice bargains to be had. The one in Maidstone has some nice stuff at reasonable prices and I have a friend of works there, so I can get her 20% discount on top as well. I'll go there on friday afternoon and see what I can find.

It was still open this weekend, it's in the Galleries on the ground floor, a bit down from Boots and WH Smith. There's a lot of 1:43 F1 cars still in there, but they only have 20% off so are all still at least £40 each. I'm more interested in the plastic model kits, of which that store hasn't stocked anything new except the new Tamiya Red Bull for the whole of 2013. I don't think there's a single F1 car kit in there anymore, and they only had 20% off them as well! The only stuff with any real discount is the kind of stuff that isn't worth anything anyway. Even in a closing down sale, ModelZone haven't got the guts to lower their prices! I would have walked out with a 1:43rd car if they had been a bit cheaper, but at over £40 still, they're basically all still list price! Absolutely bizarre strategy, no wonder they can't shift stock.

Oh, I wasn't aware there was one in Bristol...is it only just still open? I'm curious to see what they've got...

£40 each? Holy moly...I think I'll save myself the effort! Never liked The Galleries anyway...I only ever go there for the tentatively named Head music store.

Here's a thought, alongside the mention of the Leyton House truck: I was wondering if there was ever a model of the Dodge Travco that Lotus started the teams' motorhome craze with...

There is! And now I want one, even though the cash would be far better spent on food, bills, and other things that need paying urgently... and both sites I've seen have sold out anyway.
