Hasn't someone else on this forum also been through this realisation and experience?

Thank you. I've received a great deal of support, both from my family (well, mom mostly), from professionals and finally all-important peer support on Discord from the other members here who are going through the same thing. If you scroll up this topic, you will find their own, similar announcements from the past.

You're right. It appears that several have gone through this.

Our group has indeed grown a bit larger, but if it's any comfort to those who are worried about us, we get along well with each other and find much emotional support with each other.

I do find it somewhat ironic that a thread I made more than six years ago has turned into the place that GPR members whose proverbial eggs have cracked go to announce so since in the years I have been absent from the forum, I too have begun a similar journey after realising I am a woman early last year, though for reasons to do with the current global situation amongst other things, progress on that matter has been sluggish, but I'll get there in time.

Is anybody watching the Great Pottery Throw Down on C4 in the UK? For some of you it might be of interest that the kiln technician on the show this series is transgender: https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2021/01/11/r ... channel-4/

It is a great show. Wish I was that skilled at pottery. It's something that both my grandpa and one of my uncles enjoy(ed) dabbling in.

And as an update to my last post, my mum died yesterday at 1:30 am (Friday 12th).
This was 5 years ago now. Life moves on, but the pain of loss doesn't.

Indeed. I think I posted back then about it getting better, which over a distance it perhaps does but the graph is definitely not in a straight line. Not at all.

I think I achieved some sort of plateau a few years later only for my brother to suddenly die at only 58, proving that life certainly knows how to stick it in then break it off.

What can you do? Keep going, each day is an opportunity to be the best person you can be. I don't always achieve that but it's the trying that counts.

I'm glad people dealing with gender transitioning are finding so much support in the community here! One of my kids is doing this as well. We're being totally supportive, but it's still a struggle (not least because of the healthcare system in the US which makes everything harder and more expensive than it needs to be).

Best wishes everyone!

There are some people on here with Aspergers/on the autism spectrum. I wonder if they too find the support that helps here?

This community has been awesome in that respect. Give your kid all the love from you they need, it's a hard world out there.

Theres a quite high amount of neurodivergent people out here, with autism and adhd spectrums the most common. Personally i find it reassuring that theres plenty like me.
Though i'd prefer you didn't use the word Asperger, if you google who Dr. Asperger was, you'll understand why...

I have previously Googled him and I know what you are referring to. It was previously used by another forum member on this thread and is an historical diagnostic term. I will however avoid the term going forward, as that diagnostic term has now been absorbed into the Autism label.
