20 Questions: F1

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

Welcome to the third annual off-season quiz. You all know who I am, I more or less know who you are, so let's not waste time with introductions.

In past quizzes, we've had mass suspicion of people googling the answers, whether it's a piece of trivia or an image they can reverse-search. Here, that should be much more difficult to do.

Chatroom regulars will remember tommykl's occasional games where he'll do an RNG based on a list of every F1 driver and whatever number comes up is the driver people have to guess... and that's exactly what this is. I come up with a driver that all of you (or at least those of you who are interested) have to guess in twenty questions or less. Whoever successfully names the driver has to come up with another one that people have to guess and on it goes.

Rules
1. The subject the answerer comes up with must be a driver who has been entered for a World Championship F1 race, F2 race or Indy 500
2. You may collectively ask up to twenty questions
3. You can only ask questions that can be answered with "yes" or "no"
4. The next answerer must declare a new round within 48 hours of having won the previous round. If not, anyone can start a new round.

I've also decided not to keep score, as I think the previous two games have been let down somewhat by their competitive element.

Anyway, I have come up with a driver. You may begin asking!

Is this driver a reject?

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Unless there's a historic meeting I may have missed, the answer is no.

Has this driver won a Grand Prix counting to the (F1) World Championship for drivers? (it seems like an obvious question, but it does narrow it down)

Jesus...this could be anyone...that question did rule out Johnny Dumfries in my head though...

Riiiiiiiiight, so he's a European that didn't win a race in his 4+ years, but isn't a reject either. He drove for one, or maybe more than one, of Vanwall, Cooper, BRM, Lotus, Brabham, Tyrrell or McLaren (or maybe not, they'd have still been under a New Zealand licence at the time maybe), and made all his appearances pre-1970.

Did our mystery guy ever finish on the podium?

I just love how far down the rabbit hole questions like these go. Only on GPRejects would the wording be so exact on "entering on a British licence" or "races that were part of the F1 championship, including those ones run to F2 regulations".

Ace, so we've a podium winning European that only competed in the 60's for a reasonably long period of time, and drove for the teams I mentioned above. Narrows it down a hell of a lot.

Do actual guesses about which driver we think it is count towards the 20 question limit?
