Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2011 Brazilian GP

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Nico Rosberg's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

My nominations:

1. Sutil
2. Kobayashi

Petrov - He is one of my favourite drivers i never expected him to get a point if im brutally honest.
Sutil - Just proving his worth in F1. Hes very much like Webber, When he gets it together...he does astonishing drives.

How can it be anyone but Sutil . :D
and a 9th from Kobayashi is a fine way to end the season after his recent lull.

1) Sutil
2) Petrov; never saw that one coming considering how bad the Renaults have been

1. Adrian Sutil - Another excellent drive. Deserves 9th place in Championship.

2. Jenson Button - Good recovery against Alonso. Deserves runner-up in Championship.

Honourable Mentions: Kamui Kobayashi - Confirming 7th for Sauber. Paul Di Resta - Ends the season how he started, scoring points. Mark Webber - Finally gets, admittedly handed to him, his win this year.

1. Sutil - Has to be really, brilliant performance.
2. This one's a bit tougher to call. I'm in doubt between Webber and Button, but since Vettel had that gearbox problem which made things easy for Mark, I think I'll go for Button.

1. Sutil. Fine drive to 6th, and some brilliant dicing with Rosberg

2. Webber for finally winning this year. Didn't put a foot wrong and made the most of Vettel's sick gearbox

Honourable mentions to Button, for that sublime overtake of Alonso, and Hamilton for driving behind Massa and not crashing into him...

1) Adrian Sutil: Given the way Force India were talking about their top speed deficit, this wasn't to be expected. Sutil cemented the team's sixth-place WCC place today.

2) Jenson Button: Managed to pull his way to the podium even on a contrary tyre-stop strategy. His hounding of Alonso further demonstrated his impressive achievements this year.

That

I'd nominate Webber but I think the gearbox (that and I think Vettel let him through) subdues his performance. (If there was a third place I'd put Webber on there)

1. Sutil - He was dynamite all weekend.
2. Kobayashi - After some dismal showings, he's capped off these two races rather well.

2. Webber - Finally!

1. Sutil - Making things very difficult for Force India to choose between him, PDR and Hulk.

2. Webber - Finally got another win to his name after nearly a season and a half.

1) Sutil - that was a very confident and assertive drive by Sutil (he has to beat Rosberg on track to earn 6th place, and wasn't all that far off Massa towards the end of the race either), and should give Mallya something to think about when he has to make his final decision on his driver line up for 2012. It also means that Sutil has finished in 9th in the WDC ahead of Petrov, which shows both how far Renault have slid and Force India have risen for that to happen (and overall you'd have to say that Sutil probably does deserve 9th in the WDC given his season long performance).
2) Kobayashi - for the first time in quite a few races, Kobayashi had the measure of Perez throughout the race weekend, outqualifying and out racing Perez quite comprehensively today. Added to that, he helped cement Sauber's position in the WCC, which had been looking somewhat shaky given Toro Rosso's recent surge in performance, which will be a boost for the team ahead of next season.

Webber, not just for the (gifted) win, but for finally having a decent start.
Wouldn't matter what Vettel/Vettels car did if Webber was 3rd or 4th due to his typical starts anyway.
He got a win because he got a decent start for a change.
