I like the five seconds of slience after the crash, followed by screaming.
I was there, Taku hit the wall just in front of us. He did a great race, it was a pity. But it was obvious there was no way he was going to finish second.

i think after so many times of going toe to toe with dario, Sato figured win or crash.

To me,it looked like Dario clearly closed the door on Sato hard.Sato was indeed challenging Franchitti very hard but I feel Dario could have left more room and still block Sato.

Franchitti risked his own position with the move on Sato. Though legitimate, they could have both ended up in the wall. Dario must have known this, although it's a split second thing so who knows.

I didn't count that because it looked like Gordy gave Mears more space than Franchitti gave Sato. Either way it's the last lap of the Indy 500 so in retrospect it's the only one of Dario's cheap shots that I probably would have done as well.

Can't really see his argument here. It's the last few laps of the biggest open-wheel race in America. Drivers are gonna try and do everything that they can up to the very limit of the rules and regulations to gain an advantage here.

sato should have pulled inside before the entry, then whip to the outside like a juke in american football.
then pull to the inside again in the chute between 1 and 2, then block dario all the way down the back straight.

actually no, the only reason Gordy pulled that off is cause there was an Apron, an Apron Takuma Sato didn't have. If Sato did have it I suspect a repeat of 1989 would have taken place. don't blame Dario, blame the track.

Good. As one of the drivers so concerned with safety after Wheldons accident you'd have thought he'd have more sense than to cause one.

The other interesting part is that one of the related links to that video was this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZegezmy ... re=related where both drivers talked about that particular move. Gordon did say that, were Mears slightly further alongside him as they approached that turn, he would have yielded his position rather than risk a crash - whether Dario would have been prepared to do that is open to interpretation.

Would be easy decision for ROTR in this race.
Re: The 2012 IndyCar Series thread
.....seriously? How many days did you have to lay down some quick dry concrete. You had to go the cheap route, and look what happened. I don't know if I can blame Indycar for this, but I definitely blame the City of Detroit.

Beaux Barfield explained it perfectly; due to rain, there wasn't enough running on the track for the problem to show up.
They need to fix it with this.

The latest news suggests that Simona will be lucky to repeat that trick again in the next race - in fact, Simona might well be lucky if she is even allowed to race at all given that the next circuit is the Texas Motor Speedway. After the Indy 500 qualifying sessions showed that the Lotus engine was severely underpowered compared to its rivals, the race director (Beaux Barfield) has confirmed that he is prepared to prevent Simona from racing because the potential closing speed between her car and her rivals is likely to be dangerously large.
"Yes, it will [be black-flagged]," Barfield said. "We're working with Lotus to try to find some solutions to keep them on track. We're trying to be patient about it, but the reality is that Texas is a difficult place, with the way they race there, to leave somebody out on the track who is off the pace. I'd like to be sympathetic and work with them, but safety is paramount."
