Or just use the points the drivers accumulate? That would still be a fairly accurate rendition of a team's performance over the year.

I feel the rating of the McLaren drivers is a bit harsh, it was the car that was awful not them!

I support this alternative. It shows which team has had the best driver line-up while the average ratings tell more about the team's performance on the technical side (as well as how they meet their expectations).

I also strongly agree. If the car is a dog there is nothing you can do about it really, maybe Button and Perez had ok races but as they are in a McLaren we expect them to fight for wins. Button lost a place but Perez gained some, so might have had great pace... But the expectations will change after a few races if it becomes established that the car is, let's say 6th or 7th fastest.

Why not both?

Only on F1 rejects can Jules Bianchi lead a championship.
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Fixed. Jules Bianchi is definately good enough to do it on his own merit, given the machinery.

He'd be a strong contender to win a championship in any above average F1 car given how strong he has driven a Marussia to being alongside of the Williams cars which are a level above.

Ah now, he's done very well and I'd hold high hopes for him but that's a bit excessive.

I think we've seen this before with Alonso when he was at Minardi and most dry races with Vettel at Toro Rosso back when Toro Rosso was a backmarker. Alonso got mighty close last year to winning the championship in that Ferrari which was good, but not great. Bianchi might be that type of talent, but it is early in his career.

I'm finding it funny that Bianchi has suddenly become the biggest hype in F1, while a few weeks ago, people didn't care about him at all

Bianchi has finished in the top 15 in the first two races this year. Even if attrition helped, that is mighty impressive. Bianchi is doing very well for the car he has. I'm not sure you could say the same for Chilton.

I won't watch the Chinese GP until the late afternoon (CET), so if you'll be in an urge to rate, feel free to open the ratings thread. It usually happens anyway when I'm not around at the time, but now I know it well in advance. :)
