Taki Inoue
29.Antonio Pizzonia vs 36.Danny Suilvan
Pizza-zonia the Pizzonia
13.Otto Stuppacher vs 77.Hideki Noda
First Noda the enemy, then Noda wins
20.Gaston Mazzacane vs 45.Sebastian Buemi
At least Buemi's got a rejectful female cousin so Buemi wins
5.Yuji Ide vs 69.Stephane Sarrazin
Yuji Ide every day all day. Only Kevin LePage and Andy Neate could be more dangerous than Car Sl-Ide!
28.Maria Teresa de Filipis vs 37.Gianmaria Bruni
Bruni
12.Markus Winkelhock vs 53.Roberto Guerro
Bobby Guerrero wins
21.Gregor Foitek vs 44.Al Pease

Pease? Race Pace? AHAHAHAHAHA......no.
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
4.Taki Inoue vs 68.Guy Ligier
Inoue's twitter handle is a bigger achievement than setting up France's most nationalistic racing team
29.Antonio Pizzonia vs 36.Danny Sullivan
Sullivan was genuinely good. Pizzonia almost killed a journo.
13.Otto Stuppacher vs 77.Hideki Noda
Despite my undying love for Simtek, I've got to go for Stuppacher. Hilariously slow.
20.Gaston Mazzacane vs 45.Sebastian Buemi
Tough one. Going to go with the dog-killer, for his overtake on Hakkinen.
5.Yuji Ide vs 69.Stephane Sarrazin
One is the greatest driver of all time aside from HWNSNBM. The other did a bit of rallying, pfft.
28.Maria Teresa de Filipis vs 37.Gianmaria Bruni
A woman competing in the 50s gets my vote every time.
12.Markus Winkelhock vs 53.Roberto Guerro
What a debut.
21.Gregor Foitek vs 44.Al Pease
By virtue of not almost killing Johnny Herbert.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
The results are in:
4.Taki Inoue vs 68.Guy Ligier
8-6 Taki Inoue just manages to beat the French Team Owner, Inoue should run his own team!
29.Antonio Pizzonia vs 36.Danny Suilvan
7-7 This is a dead heat! So whoever reads this bit and votes between them decides the winner.
13.Otto Stuppacher vs 77.Hideki Noda
3-11 Noda is the first qualifyer through! Stuppacher isn't the strongest of opponents though!
20.Gaston Mazzacane vs 45.Sebastian Buemi
4-10 Buemi is just the faster driver here!
5.Yuji Ide vs 69.Stephane Sarrazin
3-11 Possibly the biggest rank upset we will see, but realistically Ide wasn't going to be winning this!
28.Maria Teresa de Filipis vs 37.Gianmaria Bruni
8-6. Buemi managed to get 6 votes early but never managed to get that tipping point to victory, popular de Filipis is through.
12.Markus Winkelhock vs 53.Roberto Guerro
9-5, F1's one hit wonder is through.
21.Gregor Foitek vs 44.Al Pease
12-2 Foitek slams through, an easy opponent, but Gregor may have some followers here!

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
HWNSNBM - It's HWNSNB-freaking-M.
Bobby Rahal - 2 time IndyCar champ who had 2 starts for Wolf, after 1977... versus perennial F1 backmarker who did nothing in CART as well. This one's no contest.
Shinji Nakano - I'd say the 1997 Prost and 2012 Williams were roughly similar - both cars that could punch above their weight and could win in the right conditions. Nakano scored 2 6ths and 2 7ths, Senna had 1 6th and 2 7ths, and Nakano was in his rookie year. Nakano edges it for me.
Jan Lammers - Wilson DNQ'd in a Williams FW07. In 1980. Lammers, on the other hand, managed to haul the lump of useless that was the ATS on to the grid from time to time.
Gabriele Tarquini - Tarquini scored a point for AGS. Liuzzi was shown up by Karthikeyan and was destroyed by Sutil. No contest.
Fabrizio Barbazza - Barbazza showed flashes of talent for Minardi... admittedly that's harder to do in a Coloni, but Chaves never got out of Pre-Q... plus Barbazza has the better hair.
Jaime Alguersuari - Ahahahahahahahaha. Given Alguersuari should be in a Red Bull right now, this is no contest.
Giovanna Amati - Ricardo Rosset? Nahhhhhhhh.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
2.HWNSNBM vs 63.Joachim Winkelhock
HWNSNBM, as Joachim never made it out of pre-qualifying
31.Tarso Marques vs 34.Bobby Rahal
Rahal, his IndyCar career speaks volume. It was clearly lack of races that made him a reject.
15.Shinji Nakano vs 79.Bruno Senna
Senna, but this one is close. Any more than two and a half seasons from either driver and we might not have the pair as rejects if Senna raced in 2013 or Nakano in 1998 in F1.
18.Jan Lammers vs 47.Desiree Wilson
Wilson won a non-points race, enough said
7.Gabriele Tarquini vs 71.Vitantonio Liuzzi
Liuzzi, there's a reason he lasted so long
26.Pedro Chaves vs 39.Fabrizio Barbazza
Barbazza, much like Rahal it's the IndyCar career that shows the race pace of the driver better.
10.Jaime Alguersuari vs 55.Karun Chandhok
Alguesuari
23.Riccardo Rosset vs 42.Giovani Amati
Rosset and this one is a battle of pay drivers
As for the tie of Sullivan and Pizzonia... That was a match up of a driver who dragged a Jaguar to 3rd in England before having the mechanical DNF vs. the Spin and Win Indy 500 hero who merely was an F1 Reject due to limited starts. If another tie were to happen I recommend advancing both drivers as a wild card. Nakano and Senna might be that matchup with both drivers producing a career best of a 6th.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
Woops, I didn't know we were meant to be voting based on race pace! I'll be serious from now on (I don't think my previous voting had any significant impact anyway):
2.HWNSNBM vs 63.Joachim Winkelhock
Close one, but have to go with HWNSNBM who wasn't too bad over Smokin' Jo who never pre-qualified!
31.Tarso Marques vs 34.Bobby Rahal
Marques was absolute trolley, Rahal smashes him into the ground.
15.Shinji Nakano vs 79.Bruno Senna
I'm sure there was some speed in Bruno, we just didn't see it often enough. Can't see any in Shinji though, so Senna wins.
18.Jan Lammers vs 47.Desiree Wilson
Wilson won an F1 race, Lammers didn't. Girl power wins it.
7.Gabriele Tarquini vs 71.Vitantonio Liuzzi
Hmmmmmm. Going to go with Liuzzi as he toasted everyone in F3000.
26.Pedro Chaves vs 39.Fabrizio Barbazza
Lol, Chaves. Barbazza's hair gives him the power to easily triumph.
10.Jaime Alguersuari vs 55.Karun Chandhok
Chandhok is underrated, but I think we all know Alguersuari would win here. One of the most unfairly rejected drivers.
23.Riccardo Rosset vs 42.Giovani Amati
Rosset was terrible at times, but still much better than Amati!
If you want a simpler answer to your other predicament, Sullivan>Pizzonia

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
2.HWNSNBM vs 63.Joachim Winkelhock - as much as I like Smokin' Jo, he doesn't stand a chance against our Hungarian overlord.
31.Tarso Marques vs 34.Bobby Rahal - Marques did nothing in his F1 career except trundle around at the back in half-decent Gustav Brunner Minardis.
15.Shinji Nakano vs 79.Bruno Senna - Feck off Senna.
18.Jan Lammers vs 47.Desiree Wilson - This isn't BTCC sadly, so Lammer's exploits in the estate Volvo super tourer count for squat here. Wilson for the win
7.Gabriele Tarquini vs 71.Vitantonio Liuzzi - EDIT: You know what, after that Alt-F1 race, Liuzzi can go do one.
26.Pedro Chaves vs 39.Fabrizio Barbazza - No contest here
10.Jaime Alguersuari vs 55.Karun Chandhok - DJ Squire/The Alguersaurus has this one comfortably.
23.Riccardo Rosset vs 42.Giovani Amati - Another toughie here, but Rosset gets the nod simply because he demonstrated some pace...by cannoning into the pile-up at Spa in 1998 at what seemed like a million miles an hour.
31.Tarso Marques vs 34.Bobby Rahal - Marques did nothing in his F1 career except trundle around at the back in half-decent Gustav Brunner Minardis.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
The next set of matches are in the HWNSNBM block, the theme as always for round 1 is race pace.
2.HWNSNBM vs 63.Joachim Winkelhock
Joac... Lol jk it's HWNSNBM.
31.Tarso Marques vs 34.Bobby Rahal
The Marquez from 96? Or 2001? If its the former, I'll vote Marquez. Latter it's Rahal.
15.Shinji Nakano vs 79.Bruno Senna
On pure race pace? Senna.
18.Jan Lammers vs 47.Desiree Wilson
Lammers. Don't know why.
7.Gabriele Tarquini vs 71.Vitantonio Liuzzi
Liuzzi. He's a pretty decent driver really.
26.Pedro Chaves vs 39.Fabrizio Barbazza
Barbazza. He did alright in that 93 Minardi didn't he.
10.Jaime Alguersuari vs 55.Karun Chandhok
Alguersuari. He shouldnt be a reject!
23.Riccardo Rosset vs 42.Giovani Amati
Oh god! By dint of being an F1 fan in the mid 90's, I'll say Rosset.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
2. HWNSNBM vs. 63. Joachim Winkelhock.
Personally, I think HWNSNBM is a ridiculously tired meme around here, and unlike other F1R favourites like Zanardi and Badoer, he didn't really have the talent that you could say he deserved better. That said, it's hard to argue that someone who contributed nothing but 7 DNPQs to F1 is better than him, so I'll go with Baumgartner... oops.
31.Tarso Marques vs 34.Bobby Rahal
He may not have proven it in F1, but Rahal is a capable driver.
15. Shinji Nakano vs 79. Bruno Senna
I have a bit of time for Nakano, especially since he started in a team where the principle didn't really want him. But Senna is a better driver, imho. Nakano may have put slightly better results on the board, but Senna was driving in the era of ultra-reliability, making 6ths & 7ths much harder to come by.
18.Jan Lammers vs 47.Desiree Wilson
Lammers managed to get to the grid.
7.Gabriele Tarquini vs 71.Vitantonio Liuzzi
Despite not unrejectifying himself in 81 races, Liuzzi's actually a decent driver, imo. Arguably, the only time he underperformed was at Force India. But Tarquini seemed to find ways to transcend truly awful cars at times, I'll go with him for that.
26.Pedro Chaves vs 39.Fabrizio Barbazza
Given that they both spent most of 1991 going home on Friday, one wonders would Chaves have also scored points in the M193. But he never got the chance, and I have to go with Barbazza for actually making the grid and scoring points.
10.Jaime Alguersuari vs 55.Karun Chandhok
He may have had respectable machinery to drive once in a while whilst Chandhok didn't, but my gut tells me that the Alguersaurus would beat Chandhok on a level playing field.
23. Riccardo Rosset vs 42. Giovani Amati
As much as I think that the man dubbed Riccardo "Wreck-it" by RTE's commentary team would have a good chance of binning his car before getting it to the flag, at least he might have been F1 for reasons other than promised sponsorship and his gender.

2. HWNSNBM vs 63. Joachim Winkelhock
Well, Winkelhocks race pace in Formula One was 0 kph since he never drove in one so HWNSNBM wins by default.
31. Tarso Marques vs 34. Bobby Rahal
Rahal is a far superior driver.
15. Shinji Nakano vs 79. Bruno Senna
My feeling is that Senna would've have scored at least twice the points Shinji did in the 1997 Prost.
7.Gabriele Tarquini vs 71. Vitantonio Liuzzi
Tarquini had maybe three exceptional races while Liuzzi had at least double that amount.
10. Jaime Alguersuari vs 55. Karun Chandhok
Alguersuari should still be driving in F1.

The Final selection of round 1 matches, I won't leave voting open so long this time!
The Badoer block, and once again the theme is race pace, last chance to get the car home!
3.Luca Badoer vs 67.Luciano Burti
30.Hans Heyer vs 35.Bobby Unser
14.Tora Takagi vs 51.Bernd Schneider
19.Eric Van de Poele vs 46.Enrique Bernoldi

27.Scott Speed vs 38.Andrei Montermini
11.Perry McCarthy vs 75.Allan McNish
22.Aj Foyt vs 43.Jerome d'Ambrosio
not 1, but 3 Forum honored drivers here, the fabulous Luca Badoer, a recently retired racing legend, the only guy to never qualify for a race but still race and a few gems of drivers in there. Perhaps the names are bigger than their talent in this block but an interesting one to say the least!

Luca Badoer wins this.
30.Hans Heyer vs 35.Bobby Unser
Bobby Unser wins this. But Heyer will probably take part in round 2 even if he loses.
14.Tora Takagi vs 51.Bernd Schneider
Not a difficult decision. 5-time DTM champion Schneider wins this one.
19.Eric Van de Poele vs 46.Enrique Bernoldi
6.Jean Denis Deletraz vs 59.Sakon Yamamoto
Sakon Yamamoto may be bad. But not as bad as Deletraz.
27.Scott Speed vs 38.Andrea Montermini
Montermini: The only driver who competed for Simtek, Pacific and Forti!
11.Perry McCarthy vs 75.Allan McNish
Allan McNish. Today he retired from professional racing as a triple Le Mans winner and WEC champion.
22.Aj Foyt vs 43.Jerome d'Ambrosio
I don't think I have to justify my decision here.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
Luca Badoer - Burti was pretty decent but crashed a lot. Badoer was a very solid driver who never got the break he deserved.
Bobby Unser - One of the greats of his day in IndyCar, which I rate as a better yardstick than the tin-tops Heyer raced.
Bernd Schneider - That said, Schneider was a force to be reckoned with in DTM, something Takagi never really did in anything.
Eric van de Poele - Bernoldi's one moment of fame was blocking David Coulthard. van de Poele's one moment of fame was being cruelly robbed by his car's reliability at San Marino 1991.
Sakon Yamamoto - Hey, he was good enough to challenge Senna. Well, one of them, anyway.
Andrea Montermini - I'm pretty sure Scott Speed was sacked by his backmarker NASCAR team. Why is he even here???
Allan McNish - I like Perry a lot, but they both spent most of their careers in GTs, and McNish was far more successful.
AJ Foyt - Seriously, how can you not vote for this guy?

3.Luca Badoer vs 67.Luciano Burti
I honestly think Burti had a better oppurtunity to score points at Jaguar and Prost than Badoer ever did and never really looked like doing it.
30.Hans Heyer vs 35.Bobby Unser
Did nothing in F1 vs. did nothing in F1. But I'll go with Bobby because he won single seaters America.
14.Tora Takagi vs 51.Bernd Schneider
Schneider may have 5 DTM titles, but he barely touched the grid in F1. Takagi may not immediately strike you as someone who should've gotten more from F1, but he wasn't terrible either. He comfortably had the edge on Rosset at Tyrell in '98 and was more or less a match in terms of speed for de la Rosa in '99, who most would agree is a decent driver.
19.Eric Van de Poele vs 46.Enrique Bernoldi
This is one of the few match ups where I'd go with the guy who has the litany of DNQs vs. the guy who actually started nearly 30 GPs. But vdP had talent that Bernoldi didn't, imo.
6.Jean Denis Deletraz vs 59.Sakon Yamamoto
Yamamoto wasn't exactly quick, but Deletraz was painfully slow, especially in race trim. Yamamoto would've had him for breakfast in terms of speed. But so would quite a lot of drivers.
27.Scott Speed vs 38.Andrei Montermini
Can't make an even half-assed attempt at splitting them on speed. So I'll do it on preference, and Montermini wins that on the basis of having driven for Simtek.
11.Perry McCarthy vs 75.Allan McNish
It feels so harsh to go against McCarthy considering he drove a spare parts bin / death trap, but pure logic drives me towards McNish. He may have failed to trouble the points with Toyota, but he did at least race in F1, and has a hugely impressive sports car resume.
22.Aj Foyt vs 43.Jerome d'Ambrosio
Foyt would likely massacre d'Ambrosio in terms of speed. But I'm going with d'Ambrosio because I don't think Foyt should be in the comp. The American legend is only an F1Reject on a technicality - Indy being part of the F1 calendar despite being run on different regulations. If he'd even attempted one or two Grand Prix that were actually run to F1 rules (or F2 rules in '52 & '53) like Rahal or Bobby Unser, I'd go with him.

Badoer, the master of unfortunate drives clearly ahead.

6.Jean Denis Deletraz vs 59.Sakon Yamamoto
Yamamoto isn't desesperately slow...
27.Scott Speed vs 38.Andrea Montermini
Montermini got some shines in the US after F1, while Speed didn't
11.Perry McCarthy vs 75.Allan McNish
McNish wins the crash contest: His shunt at Suzuka's 130R was way harder than Perry's hit at Spa

3.Luca Badoer vs 67.Luciano Burti
I actually rated Burti as having a turn of speed so this is decent praise for Luca "the Badman" Badoer!
30.Hans Heyer vs 35.Bobby Unser
Hans had balls, but Unser's got to be better
14.Tora Takagi vs 51.Bernd Schneider
Have to agree with some previous comments that tin-top pace is not equivalent to F1 pace. Takagi did a half decent job without setting the world alight.
19.Eric Van de Poele vs 46.Enrique Bernoldi
Bernoldi was slow as heck. Van de Poele could have done better with the same machinery.
6.Jean Denis Deletraz vs 59.Sakon Yamamoto
Sakon would win even if his head flew off his dodgy neck.
27.Scott Speed vs 38.Andrea Montermini
How dare you spell the great man's name wrong. It's Andrea not Andrei.
11.Perry McCarthy vs 75.Allan McNish
McNish didn't do that much worse than Salo did he?
22.Aj Foyt vs 43.Jerome d'Ambrosio
Foyt would put Jerome is a dustbin, Mike Skinner-style.

No women to vote for this time? And Giovanna Amati did not succeed?
Still, never mind, let's move on...

3.Luca Badoer vs 67.Luciano Burti
In terms of race pace, Burti would more often than not end up in the barriers, nullifying race pace. Thus Badoer wins on default.
30.Hans Heyer vs 35.Bobby Unser
As others have said, no starts vs. no starts. However, Heyer got into a race, and that's enough to swing it for me.
14.Tora Takagi vs 51.Bernd Schneider
He is God. The sooner you guys accept it, the better.
19.Eric Van de Poele vs 46.Enrique Bernoldi
Eric had talent. Enrique didn't. Simples.
6.Jean Denis Deletraz vs 59.Sakon Yamamoto
He of the dodgy neck was bad and a total liability, but he had a semblance of driving talent.
27.Scott Speed vs 38.Andrei Montermini
Speed couldn't quite keep pace with Liuzzi in their Toro Rosso days, which doesn't bode well, but then again Liuzzi also had the measure of one S. Vettel in the Toro Rosso days.
11.Perry McCarthy vs 75.Allan McNish
McNish was a very solid driver for Toyota, 130R excluded. McCarthy never even started a race.
22.Aj Foyt vs 43.Jerome d'Ambrosio
Simply, I've seen Ambrosia race. I've never seen Foyt race. Thus, the Belgian wins on default.

Re: The Greatest F1 Reject Tournament
Burti
Because I played as him in F1 2001
Hans Heyer
Because it would be a sin not too
Schneider
DTM
Van der poole
Why not
Yamamoto
HRT
Montermini
The reject quartet
Allan Mcnish
As much as I love Pel, I share the same name and spelling as Mcnish
Foyt
Supposedly hes good.
