Bernie's Latest Idea: Shortcuts On F1 Tracks
Re: Bernard Charles Ecclestone
I agree with you that it wont (probably) happen; the teams have rejected it as you know. I take your point that what he says and what he means are generally quite different but all the random ideas are a tack hes not taken before. I remember Flavio in 1995 suggesting the F1 races be split into two sessions (he'd watched a BTCC race and come over all peculiar) and Bernie describing him as 'too radical in his approach sometimes'. Something like that.

Merged for maximum bang.
Here's something our senior site author wrote in another thread:
Notice he never mentions shortcuts!

Stay home, Colin Kolles!

Its all done to jolly the teams along a bit. To get the engineers to sort out aero probs. to provide more overtaking abilities.
Same applies to his assertion a few weeks back that 2 of the new teams wouldn't make the grid.
All done to push them on a bit.

Offical: Berine has lost his mind.
Seriously it will cause such a saftey issue plus it wont spice up racing and will not improve good overtaking moves.
I do worry about F1 future with Berine making ideas like this.

Re: Bernie's Latest Idea: Shortcuts On F1 Tracks
Accepting that the idea is b*llocks, where would we put the shortcuts?
For example at Monaco, do the cars go through the swimming pool rather than around it ?
At Silverstone, could they put the old Woodcote corner back in and avoid the Mickey Mouse complex?
Similarly at Hockenheim, could they do the odd lap on the full circuit? (Yes, yes - I know about the trees.)
At Singapore, maybe everyone has to do at least one 360 degree spin at turn 9.
Kimi already has the short cut at Spa sorted out.

"Other than the car behind and the driver who might get a bit startled with the sudden explosion in front, it really isn't a major safety issue from that point of view,"

Franck Montagny showed the shortcuts in Monaco

So has Hamilton (2008 anyone?). Two alternative shortcuts, then?
