Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2015 Belgium

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Ericsson's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until August 28.

The same two drivers everyone else is coming up with, in the same order. You all know why.

1. Romain Grosjean: Great qualifying and race. I didn't expect Lotus to get a single podium this year.
2. Sergio Pérez: Good driving all weekend. Outqualified Hülkenberg by six positions and had a solid race.

2. Mercedes, for three reasons: 1) Grosjean and Pérez are mostly because of them, 2) that wing is cool, 3) just to be contrary

1)Romain Grosjean: Finally RoGro show the pace that we knew he had. Hopefully, Lotus will aid that with some reliability

2)Sergio Pérez: Just when the Hulk Hype was in full trend, Checo smashes him, and was mano-a-mano with the upper field.

Honorable mentions to Max Verstappen (very agressive overtakes), Kimi Raikkonen (recovery game) and Daniil Kvyat (late charge which work)

The Clash of the Titans Award goes to Max Verstappen: Even with miles of escape tarmac, that overtake starting on the outside of Blanchimont and ending with a muscle pass on the final chicane required more than guts.

1- Romain Grosjean

2- Sergio Pérez. I don't know why, but it seems every time he starts to look like he's falling behind his teammate, or just generally out of form, he always pulls out something like this. Makes me wish it happened more often, but it's entertaining when it does.

Romain Grosjean for the incredible things he did with a Lotus this weekend. That he might be without a seat next season is appalling.

My nominations:

2. Sergio Perez: Faded later on, but damn near lead the race on the first lap. Fisichella 2009 memories :)

1. Romain Grosjean - qualifies well, gearbox penalty, scores podium anyway.
2. Roberto Merhi - The pendulum is starting to swing in his direction. Suddenly Stevens isn't beating his team-mate week-in, week-out any longer.

Grosjean: What JUST MIGHT have been had he not had the grid spot penalty, but finished 3rd anyway.
Kvyat: 12th to 4th in what isn't the most reliable engine out there.
Max V: His daring drive pays off with another points finish. It won't be long before he becomes the 2nd Dutchman to score a podium in F1 after ______. (you can fill in the blank)

Back in business, sorry for the delay, but the results are quite obvious!

Grosjean - 350
Perez - 150
Kvyat - 46
Verstappen - 12
Vettel - 6
Mercedes - 6
Merhi - 6

One-sided indeed.
