Get Ready For..... The HaryantoHootenanny!!!!

A new candidate has emerged to potentially race for the British backmarker Manor in 2016.

The former Marussia squad's current lineup is Briton Will Stevens alongside Alexander Rossi, although the latter American rookie will sit out Russia next week as he returns to his GP2 duties.

Stevens says he hopes to be retained for 2016.

"For me personally, we're working hard in the background to try to sort out things for next year, which are looking positive," he said.

His new teammate for 2016, according to the German-language publication Speed Week, could be a rookie Indonesian.

22-year-old Rio Haryanto is currently fourth in the GP2 standings, and according to correspondent Mathias Brunner, "negotiations (with Manor) are already underway".

The report added that Haryanto would bring significant backing from Pertamina, the Indonesian state-owned oil company.

However, also connected with a Manor seat for 2016 is Pascal Wehrlein, especially as the young German's DTM employer, Mercedes, is set to power the team next year.

I have to say, I think a Wehrlein/Haryanto lineup would be superb for Manor. This would give them the money and the talent (and with a Merc engine, the power) to take it to Haas, Toro Rosso and Sauber next year :)

2016 marks the start of the new License Points rule. You need 40 for a Super LIcense. Haryanto currently has 0 points and 4th in GP2 nets you 20. He needs to finish 2nd in the championship to.....ahh who am I kidding the FIA don't give a shite about their own system, I am the only person in the world that even keeps track of it.

I know this might be a bit harsh but if you look at the website the story has come from, I think we can deduce that it's a pretty far-fetched rumour.

Manor have probably sat down with a whole bunch of drivers about next year. They're going to need someone with some serious cash so tapping Haryanto makes perfect sense. Whether they actually sign him though is another thing entirely.

The story is citing another publication - the veracity of that particular website therefore isn't particularly relevant, as they're merely translating a foreign language story.

Speedweek, on the other hand, has an interesting connection to the sport, as a subsidiary of Red Bull Media House, ergo is a sister publication to The Red Bulletin. I can imagine they have some halfway decent access to paddock chatter, though of course some people like to embellish the truth when it comes to these things...

I'm glad someone finally realizes this. I keep seeing "Driver X will never get a license". If you really think the FIA will follow that system, well I have abridge for you in Brooklyn.....

I expect that the FIA will try to make a public show of enforcing the system in the first couple of years in an attempt to give the procedure an air of credibility.

If they don't enforce it, the GP2>FR3.5 thing they're trying to make will just go back to how it was before with GP2 having a bunch of low-reputation drivers, right? There'd be no point to the whole thing besides this one year.

Fingers still crossed until everything is confirmed.

Besides there's still no news here linking Haryanto to Manor yet.

Only that Haryanto was offered by Force India to drive for them but thanks to a cost that rises up to Puncak Jaya, the deal didn't happen :(
Rio Haryanto for the win!

This is the first I've read about Rio and Force India.

Hmmm. Rio Sahara Force India. I like the sound of that.
