espn.co.uk/arws wrote:Couteau furious with Dagnall incidents

Jacques Couteau has launched a stinging attack on Marrakech winner Mark Dagnall, branding the British driver "a disgrace", and calling for tougher sanctions on the driver.

Despite winning at the Moroccan Grand Prix, Dagnall drew heavy criticism for his collisions with Fusion drivers Terry Hawkin and Fredo Mestolio; Hawkin retired with a resulting puncture, whilst Mestolio recovered to 4th position after slipping down the field.

"It's absolutely disgusting that a driver can have so little regard for on-track rules" said Couteau. "You don't punt drivers off the circuit like that, and you don't tip them into a spin and barge your way through. Dagnall is a disgrace to the sport, and for all his championships he still cannot act with any class whatsoever."

"But the issue is deeper. Dagnall gets away with it because he knows that he won't get a proper punishment. He gets to keep his win, and he gets to put his feet up in the Californian sun whilst we all go racing."

"Do you get to keep the money in a casino if you cheat? No, you get thrown out. Dagnall should get disqualified for this as well. The stewards weren't even going to act on his actions in this race, they had to be told that Dagnall already had a suspended ban."

Couteau praised Mestolio for his recovery to 4th, and rued the missed opportunities from the race.

"Fredo was phenomenal to recover like that, I'd have been fuming, but he kept his head and rescued the race for us. But we know we should have at least a podium from here. It's disappointing when you lose a possible big result because somebody doesn't know how to race properly."

Autosport wrote:Plus One call in administrators

Plus One Kingfisher Racing are due to go into administration, leaving the team's future in ARWS at risk.

Having been forced to pursue a free engine supply deal with Chinese manufacturer Great Wall, it appears that Plus One have defaulted on payments to current suppliers, as well as the outstanding balance owed to Ford.

Gordon Little - of administrators Little & Large - has suggested that there will be no redundancies at the team in the near future, as the financial advisory company seek to find a new buyer for the team. It has been rumoured that former owner Michael Alexander will return to buy back the team, although this is purely conjecture at the current time.

Rejectsport wrote:Lamberigts Crash Almost Leads to Fight

In the midst of a controversial victory for Mark Dagnall at the ARWS Round of Morocco, Wouter Lamberigts's first-lap accident lead to more than just a suspended race ban. The Belgian's defensive driving on the first lap lead to a multi-car collision, with four cars damaged in the collision, including Lamberigts. However, after he returned into the pits Rosco Vantini made his way to the Blokkmonsta garage after he was returned from the accident.

The two drivers got into an argument despite members of both teams trying to break up the situation in the middle of the race. When the event threatened to turn into a fight, Blokkmonsta crew chief Andrea Schnass quite literally tossed the Italian out of the garage.

"The heat must be getting to everyone," Schnass spoke after the race when asked about the incident. "We all know that Lamberigts likes to play defensive, but trying to wring the poor guy's neck is uncalled for." Schnass was not completely supportive of his driver however. "Only I get to wring people's necks in the garage, which may happen if Wouter starts making these accidents every race. We just started, so we can't afford having to pay for severe damages so frequently.

Lamberigts received a Suspended Race Ban as a result of the accident, which would lead to a full race ban should he earn another suspended ban.

Nicolas Steele wrote: I won't sugar the pill: What Woute did at the start was pretty dangerous. Yes he needs to defend his position but that was taking it too far. I had to keep Vantini from slitting my teammate's throat for crying out loud. Physical violence is uncalled for, regardless of what my team boss says, but Wouter can't play the blocking card forever.

I'm glad that we made it to qualifying, my result even excluding us from pre-quali next race. Despite his trouble Wouter almost nursed the car home, but the heat and being at the red line all the time really takes a toll on our engines. Thankfully the next few races don't have as many long straightaways so we have a chance to really make an impression.

Dagnall "brake-tested" by Fusion drivers

I'm quite baffled by Coteau's words, to be honest. Both Fusion guys tried to brake-test me in that corner, probably because they were given instructions to do so. I had no option but to go for the gap to avoid a crash!! I can show in telemetry I pushed the brake pedal at the same point as any other lap. Sorry for them, but they're not right. About the stewards... no comment, really, but at least we had our first win of the season. I'm eager now to go racing at the 2nd US round and show the rest of the field we can win this championship

La Gazzetta Dello Sport wrote:'Dagnall thinks we are all stupid' - ADV

Italian racing pundit Antonio Della Valle is the latest racing figure in the queue to take pot shots at former ARWS champion Mark Dagnall to make his voice heard, slamming the Brit's retort after being criticised for multiple incidents at the Marrakech race.

"Dagnall must think we are all stupid," said Della Valle, formerly a senior figure at the Scuderia Alitalia team. "These are the excuses of a driver who thinks the public and other figures in the sport were born yesterday. The truth is that he hasn't the slightest idea how to overtake properly."

"He has had a silver spoon in his mouth from day one, and has never had to learn things the hard way. This year Jones have made a car that isn't quite top tier, and in his exuberance to compensate for that, he doesn't know how to get to the front fairly and cleanly. He eliminated the competition like an assassin, rather than a racing driver."

Conversely, Della Valle had praise for championship leader Phillippe Nicolas, suggesting the championship was already close to a forgone conclusion.

"Nicolas has finally matured into the top driver in the sport," he said. "In the past, he was a driver with so much potential, but the difficult experiences at ArrowTech have moulded him into a level headed, combative driver with the attitude to match the talent. He is consistently in the Top 3 week in, week out, and if his car continues to hold together, he will be champion this season, of this I have no doubt."

Neuberg plotting a switch to Formula 1?

With David Neuberg's PORE team in complete disarray, rumours are swirling that his lack of alternatives in ARWS may lead the German driver to defect to Formula 1, specifically with the Precision AMG Mercedes team.

The Precision team is said to think highly of the young German, who despite having over four seasons under his belt at the highest level, is still only in his early twenties. The chance to have a known quantity from Mercedes' home land is a tempting proposition, one that the Precision heads may be unable to refute if the German marque gets involved in the decision.

Neuberg had originally been expected to depart PORE for Mecha Racing, but with Plaza being announced only days ago as replacing Kazuki Fushida, it seems his limited options have been reduced further still, and a future in a rival series beckons.

The Daily Trash wrote:Fushida incompetence makes John a has-Bean

In four races, Kazuki Fushida has not just made an embarrassment of himself, but also DRAGGED THE COLD DEAD CORPSE of John Bean's career through the mud and into the depths of the ocean.

The BRAVE BRIT, who worked tirelessly to resurrect his career after a failed F1 bid years ago with Banbury-based team Manor Marussia, has had his valiant efforts with his Mecha team DESTROYED by the completely INEPT Japanese "rookie" Kazuki Fushida.ts

Fushida, who is an ex-F1 pilot himself, was known for his back of the field exploits all the way back in the EIGHTIES, reportedly has to use a Stannah stairlift at his home, being so old and unfit. Some believe the Japanese driver funded his racing exploits, and continues to do so, with ILL GOTTEN GAINS from rumoured connections to the organised crime gang, the YAKUZA, Japan's answer to the mafia.

Fushida's family is no better - his father fought in WWII as a KAMIKAZE pilot, responsible for the death of several allied troops.

Thanks to the disgraceful Fushida name and the Japanese driver's actions this season, our local hero Bean, who defied the odds to return to the top flight of motorsport, when everyone said his career was dead and buried, has now had his comeback ruined by an incompetent MORON. Twice he has been on top form, ready and able to shock the establishment, and on both occasions his HEROIC efforts have been pissed on by the completely USELESS Fushida.

The Daily Trash is over the moon that Fushida has finally been sacked by the Mecha team, and looks forward to series returnee Jesus Plaza aiding Bean's efforts to succeed in his against-the-odds comeback. Where Fushida ends after this is unclear - all we know is, he isn't welcome on our British shores.

Reatherson in for Dagnall at Jones?

With former champ Mark Dagnall banned for the second time in three races, his Jones team requires a substitute driver once again, and still without an official reserve to call on, it seems they may look to struggling backmarkers PORE for a solution.

With team principal Sammy Jones struggling on his unexpected comeback at Bathurst, an alternative solution is being called for by the team, and it seems Quentin Reatherson is their go-to solution.

With the fellow British team on the cusp of administration, the Jones team are said to be looking to obtain the youngster's services as their official test & reserve driver immediately, having him in the wings to replace the wild and erratic Dagnall at any given moment.

Corriere dello Sport wrote:'Sorry for the team' - Lucarelli

Alessandro Lucarelli had been on the cusp of a career-defining result, qualifying third and running second at the Moroccan GP, until throwing his car off the road and into retirement.

"I am so sorry for the team - I let them down today," said the Parmagiano driver. "We were in such a strong position, to deliver a critical result for the team, and I let them down today. We struggled with race pace so far this year, but it seemed finally we were going to finish on the podium, and I let the desire to push for the top spot get the better of me."

"I hope for both my own sake and for the team this was not a fluke performance. I want to finish on the podium this year, and deliver some important results for my team. The car has lot of potential, a good engine in the back, the important parts are there to deliver. Now I must bring the car to the finish, and hopefully in a good position. We push at full intensity for the rest of this year."

With the incident at the start, we knew that everything could happen, and we weren't wrong." The incident, which left USD driver Jari Kekkonen with a front wing damage, a huge delay for the midfield, and several drivers disgusted with the lack of a red flag, was only the beggining of a series of mishaps for the ARWS Marshall, which questionable light penalties for some drivers that clearly, deserved more. "I'll be blunt, this was a race more fitted for the defunct R1 racing series. This was a joke!"

I'm baffled. As a matter of fact, the whole team is still questioning what happened during qualify. I have to admit that I made several mistakes in Pre-Q, and the traffic didn't help my cause, but for whatever reason, the car just simply lost power in the last sector of the circuit, which left me out of contention. Jari (Kekkonen) reported the same issue, and worst of all, we didn't found the cause. It's a shame after a solid race in Monza, but that's racing.

Just as Naoki (Shinjo), some kind of glitch ruined our runs, which left us with the only option of a long-term strategy, which was quickly thrashed after Lamberigts forgot everything about the braking pedal, managed to cause a big parking lot and left me withhout my front wing. It was a dangerous moment, allow the first part of the column to escape and ruined everyone's race. Why didn't the red flag was triggered is very questionable. With the extra pitstop, we decided to make the best of the race and test the reliability of the car, and that pay off as we soldiered where others fell. It was a pity that the brakes didn't last the distance with 4 laps to finish, but we're improving.

Motorsport.com wrote:ARWS pundits slam Dagnall

Both ARWS commentators, Thomas De Bock and Diego Pereira, have been quite harsh regarding Mark Dagnall's driving in the Morrocan Grand Prix this weekend. The british driver crashed into both Fusion cars while trying to overtake them at the same exact corner, with only a few laps of difference between both incidents. Dagnall went on to win a race after overtaking current championship leader Philippe Nicolas in the final 5 laps of the race.

Both Rocha and De Bock discussed the incidents in the race review, with both commentators sharing their opinion on what Dagnall did.
De Bock claimed that "Mark driving this year has been quite weird. And it culminated in this really weird race for him. Both inccidents were his fault, as he did two over-ambitious moves on the Fusion drivers, and ended up ruining both Mestolio and Hawkin races. His ban is fully deserved, and he's luck he wasn't disqualified from the race."
Rocha added that while he agreed with Thomas regarding Dagnall's driving, he also praised the british driver for his final race stint, showing some fantastic pace and putting on good moves on defending champion Thomas de Bock and Philippe Nicolas to win the race.

Quick question - who is managing Reatherson these days? Might as well explore the opportunity.

Now then...

Autosport wrote:Jones livid at "disgraceful" Fusion team, vows never to work with Hawkin again.

A furious Sammy Jones was in an emphatic mood last night, refusing to back down over claims his star driver Mark Dagnall is going off the rails, having been banned for a single race for the second time this season.

"The whole thing is a bloody conspiracy" fumed Jones "Mark is absolutely spot on. The Fusion drivers were ordered to brake test him. I mean what the f*ck is that about?! It's only through Mark's driving skill and the strong Jones car that he was able to continue and score a fantastic victory."

The team boss continued, "To be frank, it's totally sh*t over what was a really impressive win. We weren't fancied at this track, the straights don't suit the engine, and yet we come away with a very useful ten points."

Later, Jones made a sensational vow to never hire his former protege Terry Hawkin until the rookie apologises for what Jones described as "blatant and deliberate sabotage". Jones has previously guided Hawkin through the junior ranks and got him the lucrative seat at the Fusion team this year, for whom he has already won a race.

Jones went on to say, "Myself and Hawkin are through. I cannot tolerate any driver that is determined to carry out such disgraceful acts such as what we saw in Morocco. Fusion as a team have gone down massively in my estimations, and whilst I find it no surprise to see that ape Mestolio do whatever he's told like a good boy, I expected better from Hawkin. I thought I knew him better than that. Clearly I was wrong."

Hawkin has yet to issue a response to Jones' comments. Autosport will bring you the latest as we get it.

Fushida threatens legal action against Mecha

After Mecha have announced their intention to replace the 58-year-old with Jesus Plaza, Kazuki Fushida has threatened taking the Indonesian team to court.

"I've got a full season contract, and my sponsors' payments have all arrived in time. There are no performance clauses attached to the contract, so I should be in the car at Long Beach." The Japanese driver said.

"Just because spontaneously replacing drivers has been common in the past, it doesn't mean that's correct. I have a contract in place, and fulfilled it, and I expect Mecha to fulfill it as well."

Fushida, who was a Honda factory driver in the late eighties, and competed for Coloni and Williams in F1, has struggled in his debut season so far, despite winning a race in the SANDWICH series earlier this year.

Kjellerup disappointed after losing a possible podium

Despite promising pace, Kjellerup by Ecurie Prenois left Marrakech without points, for the third race in a row.

"I'm more than just a bit disappointed." Mattias Kjellerup said. "The car was going well here, but sadly, Nick retired early due to brake failure, after making up a lot of positions early in the race."

Alessandro Lucarelli threw away a possible podium when he crashed out of second position shortly afterwards.

"Alessandro is a very quick driver, and I'm convinced of his talent." Kjellerup said. "But he needs to work on his consistency. After the accident, Alessandro was very disappointed with himself, but Marrakech is a challenging circuit, and more experienced drivers made errors here. It's just a matter of time until Alessandro scores points."

What next for Reatherson?

Quentin Reatherson's first F1RWRS season didn't start as he hoped it would. The Plus One Racing Engineering team is falling apart rapidly, and reportedly about to enter administration.

The uncompetitve Great Wall engine has prevented the drivers, David Neuberg and Quentin Reatherson, from standing out so far, and now, it's very possible that they find themselves out of a job.

However, the race ban for Mark Dagnall might open an unexpected opportunity for Reatherson, as Jones are in need of a driver for Long Beach, and Reatherson is among the favourites for taking that seat.

Righto. Well the boy did pretty well in the lower categories. He can fill in for Dagnall at the next race and take the official reserve spot for the remainder of the season. I'll give him some testing time too if he joins the National young driver programme.

Motorsport.com wrote:Morocco madness brings drama back to ARWS

It's been a quiet few years in ARWS (or F1RWRS, to give it its former moniker). Since Alessandro Linari was jailed for assault and the retirement of Phoenix McAllister, there have been very few things off-track worth talking about. Until now.

Although the race at Marrakech was a largely drab affair, the incidents involving three-time champion Mark Dagnall and both Fusion cars have drawn a huge amount of attention, whilst the fallout from the fracas has been messy and eventful. In short, it's something of a return to the RWRS days of old.

To recap the events of the race, Mark Dagnall made heavy contact with Terry Hawkin in the first few laps, and then Fredo Mestolio soon after. The noises from the Dagnall camp suggest that the Fusion drivers intentionally brake-tested the driver, although Fusion have denied this strongly. The stewards at the Marrakech race seemed satisfied with the telemetry that Fusion provided, but Dagnall's assertions prove that the fight at the front is going to be incredibly tense.

That's not the end of it. Sammy Jones has backed Dagnall over his protege Hawkin to the point where he's cut off all contact with the Essex-born driver. Hawkin was widely expected to receive a Jones seat in the future, but it appears that the former IFRC champion will remain with Fusion for the foreseeable future.

So what's next? It seems that Jones now has room for a new young driver within the National young driver program, which will be Quentin Reatherson according to reports. Reatherson raced against Hawkin in IFRC and F2RWRS, and proved himself to be a very strong driver indeed. With the impending receivership of Plus One, Reatherson will most likely cover for the suspended Dagnall before assuming the Jones reserve role. It's certainly going to be interesting to see what happens over the next few races off-track, and whether Jones and Hawkin can repair their broken friendship. It's just like the old days.

Speedcafe wrote:Nicolas survives chaos, MRT disappointed

After a chaotic end to the ARWS Grand Prix in Morocco, Phillippe Nicolas emerged relatively unscathed with a 2nd place finish after being passed in the dieing stages by Jones' Mark Dagnall. However, while MRT retained the lead in both championships, they felt reason to be disappointed after the BMW engine in the sister car of Alberto Car detonated while leading comfortably.

When questioned after the race, MRT Team Principle Pierre Depault was philosophical about the team's performance.

"We should have had a fairly comfortable 1-2 out there today, but unfortunately it didn't quite work out that way after qualifying", lamented Depault. "Nicolas did the best he could to still salvage a podium, which is the type of performance that wins titles. Our rivals had a lot of issues today, so to leave here with a bigger lead than before is mission accomplished as far as we're concerned. Hopefully America brings us better results once we cross the Atlantic."

With much of the focus on the Fusion and Jones teams leaving Morocco, many are expecting fireworks on the streets of Long Beach next month as the ARWS starts its North American leg of the championship.

Auto Action wrote:ARWS WRAP: The race for Hawkin begins

After the events of the Moroccan Grand Prix, few could envisage the fallout that would follow. After Mark Dagnall was sidelined for the second time this year, Jones was quick to defend the former champion, at the expense of protege Terry Hawkin. However, what happened next was what really sent shockwaves through the paddock when the 18 year old was sensationally dropped from Jones's young driver program, starting the race to sign the young emerging superstar.

While Hawkin is believed to be happy at his current home in Fusion, it's believed that former ARWS champions Melrose Racing Team are set to make a shock bid for him. Team owner Daniel Melrose is said to rate the young Brit very highly for a number of years, and with Best in the World reportedly looking at installing Alberto Cara in a Formula One drive in 2019, the German-Australian squad would be in need for a top-line driver for next season.

ARWS WRAP: Neuberg - ARWS's forgotten man?

With the impending demise of the cash-strapped Plus One team, many are speculating as to the fate of their two drivers, David Neuberg and Quentin Reatherson. Reatherson has since been picked up by the Jones squad in lieu of the recently-departed Terry Hawkin, but Neuberg has seemingly been left out in the cold by the team's demise. Apart from a trial period with MRT in 2015, the German has never had a top car at his disposal, yet has been considered one of the most talented drivers on the ARWS grid for a number of years. However, with the lineups as they are, there seem to be few chances for him to remain in the series in the short-term.

However, he has courted plenty of interest from other categories though, with both Sauber and Precision Motorsport reportedly looking in having the German in one of their cars next year. Those chances look remote for Neuberg at this current stage, with Precision reportedly courting Fernando Alonso to drive one of the cars next year and Sauber recently signing a deal with ace Andre Lotterer. It looks likely that Neuberg will be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, which many feel would be a travesty for the driver.

ARWS WRAP: Cracks emerging at Kjellerup - Nurmester fuming

After the ARWS Moroccan Grand Prix, there was tension up and down the pitlane from a controversial race. While Jones and Fusion were smarting to everyone within earshot in the paddock, another battle was raging between Kjellerup and rookie Nathan Nurmester. The latest Flying Finn had made incredible progress in the opening laps before being told to park the car by the team. While the official line after the race was the car had a brake problem, some within the paddock believe that he might have been told to park the car due to rumours that Nurmester's sponsors have missed a number of payments to the team.

The theory is led credence by the fact the reason of retirement has been recorded as "Fallen in service" by the ARWS scorekeepers, and the altercation between Nurmester and team management that took place after the race where the Finn was physically restrained by mechanics as tempers flared. While it's alleged Nurmester and the team have reconciled their differences since then, with David Neuberg about the enter the market and the likes of Gianluigi Pazzini and Nathanael Cameron lurking on the fringes, it's believed that the Finn is now on notice within the team.

ARWS WRAP: What now for Mecha?

After another poor showing from the Mecha team at Morocco, management made the unsurprising move of sacking Japanese driver Kazuki Fushida and replace him with former driver Jesus Plaza. With the Mexican set to make his return at the next event in Long Beach, Fushida's management team have been quick to file lawsuits against the team, casting doubt on its continued participation in the near future. The perennial backmarkers are yet to start a race this season, and this would be the latest setback for the team.

With the uncertainty surrounding the team, there's rumours abound within the paddock that several of the engineers and mechanics are starting to look at other career opportunities, with many set to join the Venturi operation. Lead driver John Bean is also reportedly fast approaching the end of his patience with the team, and has also started looking for other options. While it's believed he will see the year out, some say he might end up at Kamaha next year as a replacement to the hereunto disappointing Daniel Melville.

Kjellerup denies claimed tensions with Nurmester

Mattias Kjellerup has denied claims by Auto Actions about a dispute between the team and their driver Nick Nurmester.

"They don't have a clue." Kjellerup said. "They even managed to confuse Nick with his sixteen years older half-brother Nathan."

He continued to deny all allegations the report made: "All payments from his sponsors arrived in time. I also don't know where the allegations of him beng physically restrained by mechanics come from. This article is entirely made up by the author to stir up some drama. I guess we've got to get used to things like this now we've stepped up to the top-level of motor racing."

Great, so to confirm Aerond: Reatherson in for Dagnall for the next race, and then he will be official reserve for the rest of the year once Dagnall's back. I'll schedule some tests in the near future.

But for now...

Autosport wrote:EXCLUSIVE: Defiant Hawkin labels Jones a "liability"
Young charger tells reporters "I'll be 10 times the driver without Jones holding me back"

Following Sammy Jones' comments that he will no longer work with former protege Terry Hawkin after the rookie allegedly brake-tested Jones driver Mark Dagnall in Morocco, the young Brit has now made public his views on the situation.

"We all know Sammy Jones is completely deluded" said Hawkin to reporters. "This isn't the first time he and his team have courted controversy, and I certainly doubt it will be the last. To suggest Fredo and I brake tested Dagnall is utter lunacy. We had our own races to run and could have scored very respectable results without him knocking us off the road. I suppose the sad element in all of this is that the mess we're now in comes as no surprise to anyone. Jones and his team are a liability."

When asked about his future and the fact Jones will no longer work with him, Hawkin was emphatic that the veteran team boss was more of a hindrance than a help.

"He held me back. I could have been here in ARWS at least a year earlier, but instead he wanted me to pedal his cars around in the lower formulas. I think he just wanted to make the most of my ability to make his other teams look successful. Last year in F2 for example, he already had Nick [Nurmester] contracted and we have seen how good he is. Jones didn't need another top driver at the team. If anything, having us both there meant we took points off each other, allowing Greenlaw to win the title. I have no doubt I'll be 10 times the driver than I would have been staying with Jones managing me. I am my own man, I'm in control of my destiny, and it feels good."

Rumours have already emerged that MRT are preparing an attempt to sign the highly-rated Hawkin for next year, but for now, the Brit says he's going no-where.

"I'm happy at Fusion, we have an excellent car and I think we can definitely go all the way this year. The MRT is also very good and Nicholas, with his experience, will be tough to beat. But we'll give it a good go and see where we are at the end of the year. I can't wait to finish above Dagnall in the standings and wipe the smug grin off the face of that over-privileged prick."

Mahmud Effendi wrote:The contract agreement states, "The Employer reserves the right to terminate the Driver's Contract for any valid reason, such as under-performance." Did you not pay attention to that? And we sent you the internal memos regarding your performance. Invoking what I quoted isn't easy.

(Also, to be honest, the "defaulting payments" part is actually following game mechanics. No race start, no payment, according to the Google Sheets Aerond posted in the OP. ;))

PORE in serious trouble. Mr Alexander to make immediate return to save team

It's been reported quite heavily recently that PORE are in serious financial trouble and are close to entering administration. However, the man who built this team from the ground-up has been forced to make a sensational return to the team he gave up two years ago due to ill health. "It's no surprise to see the team struggling badly, and now with the impending administration problems only around the corner, I've had to take the decision to take over the day-to-day running of the team, just to try and see the year out. It would be a complete travesty to see this team fold midway through the season and leave close to 100 employers out of work."
However, Mr Alexander faces an uphill battle right from the off. Two disallusioned drivers, a terrible engine and poor performances are going to need a major miracle to turn PORE's season around. "Not only that, but a lot has changed in the last two years. So I need patience with the series whilst I find my feet again and bring myself up to speed. I want this team to survive, hell I need this team to survive. It would be a complete joke to see them disappear without a fight."

So a few things to clear up before I start:

Firstly, I need a quick crash-course on the rules and regs. Nothing too indepth, just the things that effect me (back of the field no-hoper).
Secondly, who are my drivers still? I know Neuberg is one.
Thirdly, what do I have to do to save the team for the short-term, just to get us through the next few races?

It has become clear that this track is not good for racing with the current ARWS regulations, so I am hoping that the Commission take the hint and starts considering replacement track.

James Davies wrote:Man, it was really great to see our car run so high up there. Alessandro was doing an absolutely fantastic job all weekend and even though it ended badly for him, I think he deserves all the praise just for driving that well. I know how it feels to see results fall away due to your own mistakes, and I think the team can be sure Alessandro will be much more careful about that sort of thing in the future.

But man, I think he might be able to win a race this year. This won't be the last track like this we go to...

RejectSport wrote:JJD column: The Fusion/Dagnall Altercation
The big story out of Marrakech obviously involved the winner - Mark Dagnall. On a track which leaves his Jones car much unfancied with it's recalcitrant Ford engine, it was certainly a surprise to see them in the mix for the win. Certainly the 3-time champ must feel that some press coverage is warranted for such an unlikely win - if only that is was for that, and not how he got there.

However, once again, Dagnall has shown he simply lacks the ability to regularly drive without hitting something he really shouldn't. This time, it was the Fusion racing team - both their drivers, Mestolio and now former Jones protege Terry Hawkin. Claims of brake-testing by Dagnall and his team fall flat on anyone who was there, and stink of desperation to shift the blame away - not that it's necessary, since the Commission has always treated Dagnall with kid gloves. I mean really, with how sensitive the backs of these cars are, a brake-test would always more likely have hurt the Fusion cars much more than Dagnall. It was a deliberate and premeditated action, and once again casts doubt on how good he really is, if he feels he has to resort to such crass tactics.

However, the big fall-out from this, one which might have much deeper consequences than any feud between Fusion and Jones, is that the management contract between Jones and Terry Hawkin has been torn up on the spot. Sammy Jones has always been a man unable to divorce his in-the-moment feelings from what is actually best for his team - this is just another piece of evidence to go in that book. Hawkin shows every sign of becomin one of the greatest talents the sport has ever seen - greater than Dagnall - and Jones have just locked themselves out of any future dealings with him; a driver they have spent years of effort finely honing into what we see today. Mark my words, Sammy Jones will sorely regret burning that bridge soon enough, and for years afterward.

JJD column: Nicolas Takes Advantage of Chaos
Despite again being outpaced by teammate Alberto Cara, an engine failure for the Tropican star has seen his teammate, Phillippe Nicolas, again extend his lead at the top of the championship table. With both Fusion drivers delayed by the marauding Dagnall, Nicolas now has a rather safe 15-point advantage over the next non-MRT driver, which so happens to be the 3-time champ himself.

However, the relative lack of pace between Nicolas and Cara again reared its ugly head, as the Frenchman finished a scant 3 seconds behind the winning Dagnall, immediately prompting questions about whether or not he should've been able to do anything about it. However, with now 2 DNFs in 4 races for Cara, it leaves MRT in as uncomfortable a position as a team which strongly controls both championships can be.

Nicolas was brought back to bring a steady hand to the team, and is as hungry for a championship as anyone in the series - but MRT would certainly prefer the faster Cara to be in front, as he would certainly be more likely to defend a championship lead should Fusion and/or Dagnall get in a position to begin harrassing them. As for Fusion, their title hopes took a significant hit in Morocco - not a mortal one by any means, but it was a great opportunity to further close the gap to MRT, or at least to stem the tide, which has gone begging.

Dagnall, on the other hand, of course has benefited from winning, and by damaging Fusion's race, he has vaulted himself into the position of best non-MRT driver. Time will tell if he can hold on to that position, but by doing it at a track unfavourable to his car, he has gained a significant victory in Morocco, and could build on this in the next few races, which should suit the Jones better.

To clarify, and in order to allow PORE to see out the season, Reatherson can stay at the team for the remaining races (aside from the one he's covering Dagnall for), providing that Ataxia is cool with that. He'll remain Jones' official reserve in that time too.

1. Regarding the rules, check the first post of this thread. That should provide you to everything you need to know about this season new rules.
2. The other is Reatherson, but you need to find him a substitute for next race at Long Beach. He'll be available to you the rest of the season if you want him.
3. Most important thing you need to do is write a news story post every 4 races. That's enough for the moment.

Absolutely, that's all fine. Not in the business of kicking a team when they're down.

AdrianSutil, I can offer Nate Cameron to Kingfisher for the Long Beach race, I don't think he has any clashes. If you've got any questions that need answering, I'm happy to help. Pasta's laid plans for a similar strategy to the one I ran last year, so I've got prior experience of running the Great Walls! ;)

PORE begin rebuilding relationships, look set to compete.

Mr.Alexander has wasted no time in reassuring his struggling team that he won’t abandon a sinking ship. “I’m here for the entire time this team is still competing. To walk away would be a real kick in the teeth for these guys. They spend many, many weeks away from loved ones every year. Their hard work and dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed.” Indeed, Mr.Alexander’s first point of call was to let every team member home for three days for a much needed spot of R&R. “They need time to unwind and enjoy their lives away from the racetrack. I assured every member with a personal letter explaining that there is a job for them to come back to.”
Mr.Alexander has also held talks with both drivers, David Neuberg and Quentin Reatherson about staying with the team for the remainder of the year. “Both David and Quentin sat with me yesterday and explained their current feelings and hopes for their future careers. Quentin will remain with the team until the end of the year and apart from the enxt round where he is away, will compete in all races. Same with David, although I am looking into the possibility of ending his contract a year early should the right team come knocking for his services. But again, I’ll only let David go if the right offer comes along and not before the end of the year.”
PORE face a driver search meanwhile, as Reatherson is away super-subbing for round 8. Benoit Voeckler has been heavily linked with a move to PORE for the race, as his money would certainly help pay off a few small debts. But no official announcement will be made until this weekend.
“Benoit isn’t a bad choice as he has plenty of experience”, said Mr.Alexander. “But we will talk to any potential drivers, experienced or not, money backed or not.”
So what’s the next stage of PORE’s recovery? “Pay off the outstanding debts. The team is running pretty dry at the moment so upgrades will be few and far between, but we need to start making our way up the field. The first thing of course, is actually getting off the bottom of the pre-qualifying timesheets. Even our first season as Mitie wasn’t as bad as this!”

Ok, couple of questions for anyone to answer:

Firstly, having looked at the stats and figures (I assume they are correct at time of post), it shows Kingfisher (PORE) as having 382 credits? Is it possible to buy a new engine mid-season? Because this GREAT WALL engine stats are F-BEEP-ING TERRIBLE!!! If not, can we upgrade this hunk of crap? (Why did Pasta get these engines in the first place?!?!?)

Anything I can do to the tyres to upgrade them? I see 60 credits give me a 'special' tyre for a weekend?

Firstly, you have 82 credits in the bank, not 382 (The final column shows the end of season total once prize money is included, while the second one shows the current amount a team has).

As far as upgrades go, look here for the potential Great Wall upgrades. For reference, they need to be bought sequentially (i.e. Upgrade 1 must be bought before Upgrade 2 and so on)

Because the team's best chance was to try and do what Fusion did in 2017, which is build a new chassis and spend everything possible on it in one year. That meant not spending money on a competitive engine.

"We're happy with where we are," Rosenforth said about his team's performance. "We're just trying to get the cars on the grid, get them to the flag, see what happens. Nothing too ambitious. We weren't left much to work with from the Zimmers so we're using this season mostly as an extended test run to see what we can do next year."
When asked about his drivers, Rosenforth would only say "They're both fitting in well, Gregor could be a touch better but there aren't huge issues."
Rosenforth was also asked his opinion on the drama surrounding Mark Dagnall, but declined to comment, saying "It doesn't concern us."

Yes, you can buy special tyres and mount them whenever it fits you best. By default they'll be always mounted unless you state the contrary. You also have the mechanical sympathy rate, which you can change at any time. There are 5 Mechanical Sympathy levels; 1 to 5; the default is 4; By going below 4, you can improve reliability at a power cost, while you can go to 5 ramping up the power a bit with a loss in reliability. You can change it once per race cycle.

I DID say I did the same thing last year and was more than happy to give you some advice...I will do so anyway, it's up to you if you read it or not.

Don't spend anything on the Great Walls. It's a complete waste of money. 2018's going to be a write off for you, but you'll stand a good chance of landing a very good engine next season. Your best bet is to stick mechanical sympathy on full, buy the special tyres for a rainy day, et cetera, and try and maximise pay-driver income by qualifying for the odd race.

Which reminds me, the base Kingfisher chassis stats are missing from the wiki, could they go up please?

After a disappointing Marrakech race which saw collisions with Mark Dagnall stunt the progress of both Fusion cars, Fusion principal Jacques Couteau has urged his team to pick up from where they left off in Monza as the ARWS field moves on to Long Beach.

"We are running a five-day test at Donington, and this should help the guys in the team get back on the horse after we were pushed off of it in Morocco." said Couteau.

"After that, we should be in shape to go on and perform exactly as we should do. No mistakes, we must have a flawless weekend so that if anyone is driving like a madman, we are so far ahead that it does not affect us."

Couteau also suggested that the possibility of Nathanael Cameron deputising for Quentin Reatherson at Kingfisher was now an unlikely move.

"Kingfisher want somebody with money right now, because the returning management need to get a budget sorted for next year. Nate does not want to pay for drives, so we think it's best if we keep his focus on his AR3.5 campaign."

I had a rather quiet afternoon myself, and I'm happy to finally reach the end of a race for the first time this year, but Mark's driving was really poor. I understand now why my team were telling me to be careful when defending against him. Luckily he didn't pull anything on me, but pushing out both Fusion drivers was disgraceful. He wasn't brake tested, and this is just confirmation of the lack of regard for other drivers he showed in Adelaide. Not only does he deserve to be banned, he should be stripped of his win as well.

Despite wiki's unexpectedly long down time, I wanna resume with the series. So, from now on and in the meantime all team owners please PM me your test plans. All team owners wanting to run tests before Long Beach please send me your plans before Friday 8th January 11:59PM Spain time.

Budgets are up to date and Wizzie and I will work some sort of wiki replacement in the budget document so you can get to all the essential information while Biscione fixes the wiki.

Thanks!

I have no excuse for today. The setup simply didn't work, and we didn't have enough time to test Naoki's one to try and make any difference. I'm ashamed since I got here with 2 solid runs.

Naoki Shinjo wrote

What a frustrating way to end the weekend. In both Pre-Q and quali, the car performed excelent. That 11th place on the grid could meant an even bigger result for the team. Unfortunately, while battling for 10th, an electrical failure on lap 9 put an end to my run. It's a shame since I pretty much like Long Beach's layout.

Nicolas Steele wrote:We're making steady progress with the car. We didn't quite have the pace in qualifying nor in the race, mainly because the car is not that fast down the straights.

At least we had an uneventful weekend, with no major scuffles with other drivers. Phoenix should prove more our speed, and hopefully we can get a chance to get in the top 10 again.

Andrea Schnass wrote:We got both cars home today, so that's something to take away. With my son having headaches with the IPCC series today was certainly welcome news. We're clear of pre-q for now, though a bit closer than we like. Hopefully we can keep this up through the tour of America, and hopefully without any dumbkopf moments.
