2016 Russian GP - Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race

Post by DemocalypseNow »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Ericsson's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until May 3 @ 1800 GMT.

Biscione's picks;
1st Kevin Magnussen
2nd Fernando Alonso

1. Kevin Magnussen: Seventh place with one of the worst cars on the grid. Great job!
2. Fernando Alonso: Sixth in a McLaren isn't bad either.

1. Alonso - given that McLaren expected to do badly here, 6th is a good chunk better than they might have expected.

2. Magnussen - considering how far down the grid he was, 7th is a very surprising result.

1. Rio Haryanto - if he hadn't been taken off by the cheater that destroyed his race he would have won.
2. Daniil Kvyat - for providing us with great entertainment week-in week-out :)

Honourable mentions:
- McLaren for getting into double digits this early in the year. It's so depressing that this year is considered an improvement over the last one.
- Magnussen for obviously getting Renault some decent points in not a very good car.

2) Fernando Alonso - classy drive, great to see him back up there.

1. Kevin Magnussen - Great points while his reject teammate only makes 13th. And he passed Ricciardo and Grosjean on track.

2. Fernando Alonso - Same reason as above only without the on track passes.

Honorable Mentions

Sebastian Vettel - Funniest team radio since 'Leave me alone'? :D

Sergei Sirotkin - Kicked Palmer's butt in FP1. Renault put him in for 2017 please.

Ten points go to... Kevin Magnussen. However you put it, that car's still a mutt so on the days you have to cash in with it, he did exactly that and made Danish bacon of Daniel Ricciardo in the process.

Six points go to... McLaren, I suppose, no longer looking at their super-sub for the only score on the board. Still, I wonder if Fernando Alonso will be well into his 40s before they find themselves sitting in the kind of position that Mercedes are now...

1st. Kevin Magnussen - Got a trash heap of a Renault in the points. Enough said.

2nd. Fernando Alonso - Found his way up into the mid points with the mediocre Honda PU by actual pace and not getting caught up in everyone else's bullcrap.

Honorable Mention(s):
McLaren Honda - As a whole looked pretty handy, Still not where I'd like them to be, but it's a start I guess.

Williams Martini Racing - For once didn't do some asinine strategy and got a good points haul.

Sebastian Vettel['s expletive engulfed radio] - Hearing him go off like that makes me feel like when Jeff Gordon freaks out (for legitimate reasons, mind you). I just get all fuzzy, laughing, and warm inside.

1 - Alonso: Great result. If McLaren keeps this up greater haul of points than this weekend do look possible.

2 - Magnussen: Taking advantage of others falling off to grab some decent points. And repaying the faith the team placed on him. He can be what Alonso was to the Enstone team.
