2016 Canadian GP Infinite Improbability Drive Of The Race

Post by mario »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Ericsson's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

You know the drill - 10 points for 1st pick and 6 for your 2nd pick, and the usual 48 hour deadline applies.

1st: Bottas - given Williams thought they were only 4th fastest at best, he managed to take advantage of the mistakes of others to secure a solid podium finish.

2nd: Carlos Sainz - Given he started from 20th, 9th is a fairly decent recovery and a hint of what perhaps he might have done had he not hit the wall in qualifying.

1. Valtteri Bottas: Unexpected podium, obvious pick for first.
2. Max Verstappen: Great recovery from the Monaco disaster. Tough and impressive racing against Rosberg.

1) Gutierrez - best Deletraz impersonation ever.
2) Bottas - the only other worthwhile thing about the race.

1. Bottas - Bagged a podium, which will provide a large fillip to Williams' confidence.
2. Paul di Resta - put in a very assured performance covering for the absent Martin Brundle.

1. Bottas - seriously didn't expect Williams to be mixing it and beating the top 3 teams, especially a Merc and a Ferrari.

2. Sainz - 20th to 9th.

HM to Verstappen but I guess we're starting to expect it from him now :)

Ten points to Nico Rosberg, that desperate lunge and the ensuing slide was the most entertaining part of the entire race, and he didn't lose any positions after all.

Six points go to Jamie McGregor and Enoch Law, as I'm finally listening to the last Rejects Podcast and they're absolutely right about the halo versus Red Bull's screen and, all things considered, I am dreading the inclusion of that halo next year.

1. Valtteri Bottas Just the fact that a Williams actually gained positions in a race should secure him #1.

2. Carlos Sainz Jr. Back to 9th with little help from attrition and on one of Torro Rosso's weaker tracks.

10 points - Valtteri Bottas
For obvious reasons.

6 points - Martin Brundle
For being absent. Hope it was nothing serious.

First goes to Valtteri Bottas. Honestly didn't think Williams were going to be up there with Mercedes and Ferrari.

Second goes to Paul di Resta. I still muted the race often due to Crofty's constant stupidity, but Paul, judging from the bits i didn't mute, did a respectable job in the booth. Sadly he couldn't keep Crofty from making an ass of himself, but that's probably due to inexperience with just how dumb Crofty can be sometimes. If Paul got stuck in with Ben Edwards and DC at C4, or maybe even Diffey and co. at NBC, he'd sound just fine. Not bad considering he had to fill in for Brundle.

10. Paul di Resta - Stellar job. I did not miss Brundle and probably the best he's done F1 related. Crofty is still a bother but I feel like di Resta is a lot less biased than Brundle.

6. Carlos Sainz - I would say Bottas but Bottas and Williams have been looking good this GP.

1. Carlos Sainz - great job, from 20th to the points.
2. Max Verstappen - he had the edge over Ricciardo for the whole race and held off Rosberg like a champion.

1 - Bottas, fantastic drive third with the fourth best car is great.
2- Haas: Do two Deletraz with the two Drivers with no penalty. In 2016 it is very difficult. Haas will be great rejects in the future, they don't know what to do with their car now. The ferrari engineeers are back in Italy

Gonna go purely on "actual position vs expected position" rather than moments of brilliance so,

1. Valtteri Bottas - was beginning to think Williams wouldn't get a podium this year because of Ferrari's and Red Bull's progress. Very good drive.
2. Carlos Sainz Jr - Wake up Dr. Marko

HM - Mad Max's defending
Watka - you know, the swimming horses guy
