Yes. :D That really shows how awful his luck has been this year, he would have won almost every race if he had actually finished. I expected him to completely dominate this season, but it's now looking increasingly unlikely.

Probably, I doubt they'd let something like Spa happen. Especially considering that Pérez and Ocon both failing to finish races is pretty much the only way Verstappen has a realistic chance of taking the title this year.

I guess Pérez winning the title would be the most interesting, as Verstappen and Ocon will probably have many more opportunities in the future.

Sainz takes the first win of his career in Singapore and is close to third place in the championship after another retirement for Verstappen. Incredibly, Sainz had finished on the podium 18 times before winning a race. Pérez finishes second and Palmer third (the first podium of his career, after eight 4th places), while Ocon has to settle for sixth, cutting his championship lead down to two points.

2017 (After fourteen races):

Ocon 225 (2 wins, 6 2nd, 1 3rd)
Pérez 223 (4 wins, 3 2nd, 3 3rd)
Verstappen 162 (6 wins)
Sainz 159 (1 win, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)
Stroll 128 (1 win, 1 2nd, 3 3rd)
Magnussen 105 (3 3rd)
Palmer 97 (1 3rd)
Vandoorne 80 (best result: 2 4th)
Wehrlein 69 (1 3rd)
Ericsson 61 (best result: 5th)
Giovinazzi 10 (best result: 5th)
Di Resta 0 (best result: Ret)

Verstappen ends a streak of bad luck by taking a dominant win in Malaysia. Pérez takes the championship lead with a second place, while Vandoorne takes his first podium of the season. Pierre Gasly finishes seventh on his F1 debut.

Pérez 241 (4 wins, 4 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 235 (2 wins, 6 2nd, 1 3rd)
Verstappen 187 (7 wins)
Sainz 159 (1 win, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)

Verstappen takes another win in Suzuka, but is still far behind the championship leaders. Ocon finishes second, cutting Pérez's lead down to three points as the latter finishes third. Palmer finishes fifth in his last race for Renault, as Sainz has been announced as his replacement.

Pérez 256 (4 wins, 4 2nd, 4 3rd)

Ocon has the first retirement of his career in Brazil. As a result, Pérez (second today) takes the championship lead. Verstappen's fifth win in a row keeps him in contention for the title, though he needs Pérez to finish off the podium in Abu Dhabi. Sainz was third in today's race.

2017 (After nineteen races):

Pérez 298 (4 wins, 5 2nd, 4 3rd)
Ocon 289 (2 wins, 9 2nd, 1 3rd)
Verstappen 287 (11 wins)
Sainz 189 (1 win, 4 2nd, 4 3rd)
Stroll 171 (1 win, 1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Magnussen 137 (3 3rd)
Vandoorne 117 (1 3rd)
Palmer 111 (1 3rd)
Wehrlein 87 (1 3rd)
Ericsson 76 (best result: 2 5th)
Gasly 32 (best result: 4th)
Giovinazzi 10 (best result: 5th)
Hartley 6 (best result: 7th)

That could prove a VERY expensive retirement for Ocon - looks like 3rd would have sealed him it even if he'd finished behind his teammate!

(oops no it wouldn't but it would have guaranteed it for Force India and eliminated Verstappen!)

Not quite as costly as Verstappen's DNFs, though – we might see him take 12 wins to Pérez's 4 and still lose the title! That would be really harsh, as he would have won almost every race with better reliability!

I'm not sure who I would like to win the title. Ocon winning as a rookie would be very impressive. Pérez probably has his best chance this year, as there might be too much competition in the next few seasons. Verstappen would be the moral champion, as he has been so dominant on pace, but I'm sure he'll win it in the future if not this year. But if he doesn't do it now, next season could be pretty boring – if Red Bull remains competitive and has fewer reliability problems, I could see him destroying the record for most wins in a season, which he would already have done this year if not for his awful luck.

I'm counting on McLaren and Vandoorne being up there in the mix. No one can argue that the chassis this season hasn't been a pretty good one and with the same engines as Red Bull next season I expect them to do well.

Verstappen takes his twelfth win of the season in Abu Dhabi, but it's not enough: due to the Red Bull driver's disastrous luck over the season, Pérez's second place is enough for him to win by four points. Ocon takes third in both the race and the championship – a good result for him in his first full season.

Final championship standings for 2017:

Pérez 316 (4 wins, 6 2nd, 4 3rd)
Verstappen 312 (12 wins)
Ocon 304 (2 wins, 9 2nd, 2 3rd)
Sainz 189 (1 win, 4 2nd, 4 3rd)
Stroll 172 (1 win, 1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Magnussen 147 (3 3rd)
Vandoorne 129 (1 3rd)
Palmer 111 (1 3rd)
Wehrlein 95 (1 3rd)
Ericsson 78 (best result: 2 5th)
Gasly 36 (best result: 4th)
Hartley 12 (best result: 2 7th)
Giovinazzi 10 (best result: 5th)
Di Resta 0 (best result: Ret)

There's no way anyone would have predicted that result at the start of the season! :) (Though Ocon would have won it if he'd just managed to finish in Brazil!)
