Really late again (this is becoming a bit of a joke really, what with GP2 attempting another self-destruct thanks to Ubuntu 17.04...) but here are the results from Round 6 from Twin Ring Motegi, the last before the mid-season break.

After the first qualifiying session, it was clear that the unique challenges of the Motegi oval had taken the form-book and incinerated it. On pole was Satoshi Murakami, typically a midfield runner, and alongside him in a simply stunning performance was Australian debutant Harry Sharp, with Tony Wei-leuk third instead his normal position in the back three rows. Meanwhile further down the grid it seemed as if the established front-runners were struggling to adapt their more precise styles to going round in circles; of the championship contenders, Takashi was 15th, Sung-Tae 17th, Martono 19th and Xiaoping a dismal 25th. Things were worse still for last round's Korean debutants, as neither Song or Cho made the grid.

After outdragging Murakami off the line, Harry Sharp maintained an advantage of just under four tenths of a seconds over near-constant opposition from the Narita driver to take a debut win on his debut, a feat that was impressive despite the fact that Joo-Woon Song did the exact same thing at Autopolis. Murakami was just off the podium in fourth after his tardy start, while the rest of the top 10 was strange to say the least; Hinata Miura and Kosuke Setou scored their first points this year, while both Dandelion drivers made their first visit to points-paying positions for a very long time, although Wei-Leuk pulled off a Gutierrez-style performance after his promising qualifying and hence finished 11th, albeit only managing this after Xu Shiqing ran out of fuel on the last lap to drop out of this place. None of the championship contenders were even close to scoring, leading to much confusion at the sharp end of the paddock, with this poor oval-form also ruining Ryunnosuke Takashi's 100% scoring record. To top all this weirdness off, Naotsuke Kano set fastest lap.

There was another shock polesitter for Race 2, with Rudiartono joined by Kei Suzuki on an atypical front row. With some awful efforts the previous day, it was interesting to see who could bounce back and find their feet at Motegi- Seong-Jin Cho, who qualified third after failing to even make the last row for Race 1 can certainly say he did, as could Takashi, Xiaoping and Martono, who lined up in the top 10, two places ahead of a seemingly distracted Harry Sharp (and who could blame him?). Kwon Sung-Tae made no such improvement however, and hence lined up 16th, although this was still some way ahead of the two Narita cars, who's form seemed to fall into a black hole as so often it does. Mutaz Ibrahim and Masahiro Yaname failed to qualfiy.

Rudiartono led into the first corner, with Suzuki right on his tale, and the two swapped for the lead almost every lap for the initial running, but soon they were joined by Danial Nielsen Frost, who was on a charge having climbed up from 8th- the three drivers were now separated by just a couple of tenths of a second.

Unfortunately this pushing from the Calsonic driver had damaged his engine, which promptly detonated, but it was his resulting reaction that must go down as the most boneheaded action by a driver this year; he not only drove around blocking drivers and belching smoke for another two laps, he then decided to bang wheels with Harry Sharp, leaving the Australian nowhere to go but over the top of Nielsen Frost's car causing both to spin into traffic and spoiling the race 1 winner's at that point solid chance at points. It's safe to say that the stewards were not expressed, although it clearly wasn't easy to get a car off the track, as Satoshi Murakami's flaming engine smoked itself round the track for a further two laps before its retirement on lap 15, though at least he didn't hit anyone.

By this point, Zhou Xiaoping had joined the battle for the lead, and quickly displaced Rudiartono as Suzuki's ,main challenger, and the two battled for the remaining 15 laps with the latter driver eking out a winning margin when overtaking lapped traffic, to leave Nakamura management very happy indeed after Motegi. Joining the two on the rostrum was Ryunnosuke Takashi, who had quietly made himself into that position after the chaos of the Sharp/Nielsen Frost incident put him into the points, and having kept ahead of fastest lap-setter Martono in sixth, while Kwon Sung-Tae was still in the wilderness, having spun at half distance and fell well behind his (usually deadbeat) teammate Choi Seul-Hae who scored her first points at the expense of Seong-Jin Cho, who ran out of fuel on the run to the finish.

Championship Standings After 12 Rounds:
1 Martono 116
2 Xiaoping 108
3 Sung-Tae 95
4 Takashi 93
5 Gouriki 59
6 Gafar 48
7 Fujibayashi 38
8 Weerwatnodom 36
9 Suzuki 32
10 Shiqing 28
11 Nielsen Frost 25
12 Song 19
=12 Murakami 19
14 Danish 18
15 Cho 15
=15 Sharp 15
17 Raharjo 14
18 Rudiartono 10
=19 al Qubaisi 9
=19 Yaname 9
=19 Koizomi 9
22 Kano 7
23 Miura 4
24 Sekai 3
=24 Nhat 3
26 Seul-Hae 2
27 Setou 1
Martono still leads by eight points after his single score, with Xiaoping moving back up to second and some way ahead of Sung-Tae and Takashi, who are separated by two points. Kei Suzuki moves into the top ten on account of his win, while his new teammate's points put him 15th, where the former was previously. 27 drivers have now scored points this season on account of the strange results this weekend, but still a sign of just how competitive and wide open the midfield of this championship is.

Steward's report:
Danial Nielsen Frost has been given a one race ban on account of negligence in regards to obscuring driver's vision with his smoking engine and causing an avoidable collision with #93 Harry Sharp while in traffic. Calsonic will need to run a substitute driver.

Feel free to comment and sack drivers as per usual, but as we have now reached the one month season break (probably won't be one month in real-life, but I do have exams :P ) you now have a chance to participate in a mid-season driver improvement test (shamelessly ripped off Simtek, who ripped of novitopoli, but hey).

You will be allowed to focus development on one area per driver, the success of said development being decided by an RNG:
- Race Pace
- Quali Pace
- Consistency
If you have either sacked a driver and employed a new one, he/she will not be allowed to participate in said test as there is no baseline. Likewise Nielsen Frost cannot participate due to his race ban.

Rudiartono did something good?

Gouriki will take consistency test; Rudiartono will take race pace test to ensure that result wasn't a fluke. :)

Race pace for Kwon Sung-Tae, qualifying pace for Choi Seul-hae. BTW, I think I should have mentioned this earlier, but Choi is a woman, not a man. I think I came up with her given name after looking up the squad of a Korean women's football team.

Oops, sorry! I'll go and retroactively fix that. EDIT: it's done (somehow I only screwed up with the gender once in five race weekends...)

Having already finished highly in Formula Vee and about to race in US F2000 (which uses a more powerful variant of an F4 car) I would say that Lazier has too much experience to race in this series, and, as I can't find his DOB anywhere, may be too old by 2019

He is eligible, but only just as he was 18 at the start of the season, but is 19 now and hence too old- however the regulations only state he has to be that age at 01/01/17 so you are OK.

I am still waiting for testing plans from Team RS, Narita, Dandelion and Aspire before they can be RNG'd, so if possible could these users get these to me by the end of the week so that they can be finalised before the second Motegi rounds.

In the meantime, I have began to transfer new, slightly fancier Race highlights programmes (it has a title sequence and everything!) onto YouTube (the channel is here to replace the old Dailymotion videos. As of now, only Okayama Race 1 is up, but more will be uploaded over the next few days.

There is a new, cross-series YouTube channel set up by Biscione as a hub for all things PMMF. If you get in contact with him (the chat is a great way to do this) he'll set you up with access, so Asian F4 videos can be directly uploaded by yourself to the channel.

DNQ:
27 Choi Seul-Hae
28 Kosuke Setou

Harry Sharp's apparent affinity with the Motegi circuit continued to show in the first qualifying session of the weekend, taking his second pole in just his third race start, with Seong-Jin Cho also running strongly to line up alongside him. There were differing fortunes for the championship contenders; Sung-Tae qualified a strong third and Xiaoping was fifth, while Takashi and Martono were some way further back in eighth and twelfth respectively. Without any testing time, Martono's stand-in teammate, the highly-rated Sebastian Fernandez qualified a muted but solid sixteenth, a good effort considering the circumstances. Rather less solid were the efforts of Choi Seul-Hae and Kosuke Setou, who failed to qualify despite testing to help avoid this fate.

Race 1 (video coming soon):

Joo-Woon Song won his second race of the year in very similar circumstances to his first win; this time it was Cho making the early moves, quickly passing the slow-starting Harry Sharp for the lead of the race, with Sung-Tae and Song following. By Lap 5, it was Song in second, having made quick work of the South Korean, and he proceeded to hound Cho for the lead, never more than a second adrift. This situation maintained itself until Cho ran wide on Lap 14, allowing the Team RS driver to slip in front and from then he didn't look back, although Cho didn't exactly back off, ending the race only a second and a half behind in what was a very spread out top 10. One driver who very nearly wasn't part of this top 10 was Presley Martono, the championship leader seemingly off the pace, again giving echoes of Autopolis, barely keeping ahead of his teammate; he was lucky to finish ninth (and score two vital points) in the end, benefiting from a fast-fading Harry Sharp and an extremely unfortunate engine failure for Ryunnosuke Takashi, who up to then was running quite strongly, as the winless Japanese's championship challenge hangs in the balance. Joo-Woon Song set fastest lap.

Harry Sharp continued to be completely dominant in Motegi qualifying, managing to set a lap four tenths of second faster than Race 1 winner Joo-Woon Song managed to line up alongside him with. Ryunnosuke Takashi lined up best of the championship contenders in third, while Sebastian Fernandez seemed far more comfortable in the Dome F4 on his second attempt at qualifying, managing an impressive fifth, while Martono made it a better session for Calsonic with a far more competitive seventh. Seul-Hae and Setou again failed to make the grid.

Joo-Woon Song utterly dominated Race 2 at Motegi to become the only driver other than Presley Martono to take more than two wins this year, or complete a clean sweep of the weekend. Harry Sharp, while not having quite so much of a dearth of race pace as in Race 1, could not challenge the North Korean, and had soon slipped to fourth behind Takashi and Kwon Sung-Tae, who was nothing if not consistent this weekend. Presley Martono had another worryingly poor run, scoring just a single point, (behind such drivers as Jordan Raharjo, making a very rare appearance in the top 10) while his teammate Fernandez scored for the first time. Ryunnosuke Takashi set fastest lap to top off what was an extremely successful race for Team RS, having scored only the second one-two for any team this year.

Driver's Championship After 14 Rounds:
1 Xiaoping 124
2 Martono 119
3 Sung-Tae 115
4 Takashi 105
5 Gouriki 68
6 Song 49
7 Gafar 48
8 Fujibayashi 39
=8 Weerwatnodom 39
10 Shiqing 38
11 Suzuki 32
12 Cho 27
=12 Sharp 27
14 Nielsen Frost 25
15 Murakami 19
16 Danish 18
17 Raharjo 16
18 Yaname 13
19 Rudiartono 10
20 al Qubaisi 9
=20 Koizomi 9
22 Kano 7
23 Miura 4
=23 Fernandez 4
25 Sekai 3
=25 Nhat 3
27 Seul-Hae 2
28 Setou 1
The big news in the championship is that for first time since Okayama, Presley Martono is not leading the championship! Instead it is now Zhou Xiaoping who holds a five point advantage, with K-Apex's Sung-Tae still within touching distance a further four points back, although with a 19 point deficit Takashi is beginning to fall adrift of the battle. Joo-Woon Song's stunning performance at Motegi lifts him from 12th to 6th in the championship- one can only imagine where he'd be if he had joined at Okayama...

Feel free to comment/sack drivers, especially as the silly season is bound to be hotting up, with rumours soon to be abound about who's going to F3 Asia next year...

While the championship battle rages on between Zhou Xiaoping, Presley Martono, Kwon Sung-Tae and Ryunnosuke Takashi, the biggest fight further down the order is over the signature of Joo-Woon Song, who has scored more points in the three race weekends he has participated in than any other driver during that same period.

The North Korean prodigy has taken the Asian racing scene by storm, and with the future of his current employers Team Rising Sun looking uncertain, he is said to have plenty of offers on the table.

Firstly, apologies for the lack of progress of this series over the last month or so- the uncharacteristically hot weather where I am has exacerbated the overheating problems currently affecting the computer I run this on (thanks, stock AMD cooler!) which also has caused audio issues. In the meantime, I have been trying to streamline the video highlights system for 2020 so they can be produced much quicker, with swankier grid graphics. It was almost ready for this race in fact, but instead I'll just post without videos for now.

Anyway, here are the results for the rounds at Sugo!

Key title contender Kwon Sung-Tae made a perfect start to his weekend with his fourth pole position this year, beating surprise front-row qualifier Kurumi Fujibayashi by just one hundreth of a second. Martono, reeling at the loss of his championship lead in Motegi lined up a strong third, while new championship leader Xiaoping was three places further back in sixth. Takashi was the worst qualifier of the contenders in eighth, with his teammate Song disappointing in tenth, though not as much as a struggling Kei Suzuki, who only managed 19th. As has been the case for several races now, it was Choi Seul-Hae and Kosuke Setou who failed to qualify.

Facing no real challenge from Fujibayashi past the first corner, Kwon Sung-Tae produced an impeccable performance to record his third win this year, with a margin of almost nine seconds over the former driver, who nevertheless put in a measured and thoroughly respectable performance to retain second under pressure first from Zhou Xiaoping (who fell back and then Go Gouriki, both of them noted hard chargers. There were captivating battles throughout the top 10 as well, in a thoroughly entertaining race- Presley Martono's recovery from a rather poor start yielded some decent overtaking, as did the battle between everyone from 8th to 12th, with even Gafar in 12th gracing the top 10 on some laps.

In the second qualifying session of the weekend it was Harry Sharp who managed his third pole in four races, but alongside him was Ryunnosuke Takashi, who after a disappointing Race 1 was seeing his championship challenge beginning to show signs of faltering- a win would help his cause, but Xiaoping lined up third and Martono fifth, Danial Nielsen Frost splitting the two having seemingly recaptured the form he had prior to his race ban. Another notable qualifying run was by Satoshi Murakami, placing himself inside the top 10 on the grid.

Any real chance Ryunnosuke Takashi had of a good result really evaporated in the first lap as he was jumped by both the Calsonic cars, which took a further couple of laps to dispatch pole-sitter Sharp to head the field in formation. The leader of said formation though was a surprise- it was Nielsen Frost who had the better pace (he also set fastest lap) for once, and who held on to a maiden win, the first for a Singaporean driver in this series. Besides Martono, who scored useful points for second, the other championship contenders had a difficult time, with all three engaging in a battle with Harry Sharp, and only Xiaoping making it past, while Takashi even lost out to the lowly qualifying Kwon Sung-Tae, who nevertheless managed to recover a strong haul of points. Tsujimura Scuderia had one of their best races in a while- Murakami ran strongly and finished a fine eighth, while Hinata Miura had her best race since Motegi Oval, fighting inside the top 15 for most of the race but ultimately finishing just outside it.

Championship Standings After 16 Rounds:
1 Martono 139
=1 Xiaoping 139
3 Sung-Tae 138
4 Takashi 114
5 Gouriki 80
6 Fujibayashi 55
7 Song 51
8 Sharp 50
9 Gafar 48
10 Nielsen Frost 40
11 Weerwatnodom 39
=11 Shiqing 39
13 Cho 33
14 Suzuki 32
15 Murakami 22
16 Danish 19
17 Raharjo 16
18 Yaname 13
19 Rudiartono 10
20 al Qubaisi 9
=20 Koizomi 9
22 Kano 7
23 Miura 4
=23 Fernandez 4
25 Sekai 3
=25 Nhat 3
27 Seul-Hae 2
28 Setou 1

With just four races remaining, the title fight has essentially been reduced to a three-horse race- Ryunnosuke Takashi is now over thirty points behind with 64 still available, which without attrition in at least one weekend would be difficult to overcome. There is nothing to choose between the three ahead however; Presley Martono leads, but only on countback based on his greater win tally, while third-placed Sung-Tae is just a single point behind and is on a run of good results. This could be very exciting indeed...

Once again apologies for the horrendous delays, but feel free to comment/sack drivers/speculate about Asian F3 2020.

As I have finally got my video compiling program to run at a decent pace, I have now uploaded all of the existing Asian F4 rounds to the Formula Rejects YouTube channel, which now run at the correct frame rate (and hence are now half as long, and about a third as tedious to watch) and with a slightly rough-looking early '90s style grid animation (I'll convert it to HD widescreen for 2020, instead of just VGA ). Also, I have managed to get the Marina Bay Circuit working on my GP2 install, so the penultimate rounds of the championship will be up within the next few days

Presley Martono had a perfect start to his weekend getting two vital points on the board for pole, giving him the championship lead already going into Race 1. Alongside him was Go Gouriki, who seems to be on a run of good form from Sugo, while Kwon Sung-Tae was a decent third, but would need to get closer to Martono if he wanted to shrink the points gap. Looking less promising was Zhou Xiaoping, who had left himself with a lot of work to do in the race starting only eighth, and having narrowly lost the championship lead he had already. Meanwhile debutant Omar Aswat lined up in a respectable 17th place for his first race, ahead of a floundering Kei Suzuki, who's shown no form since the Motegi win. At the back of the field, Setou and Seul-Hae failed to qualify.

Go Gouriki blasted off the line to win his second race of the year comfortably ahead of Presley Martono- by the end of lap 1 his advantage of running without traffic had allowed him to build a two second advantage over the rest of the field, and this was maintained over the race distance, the Mecha driver becoming somewhat forgotten while drama erupted behind. This drama was mainly centred around Kwon Sung-Tae, who bogged down on the start line, dropping him down to eighth by the end of the first lap, already several seconds behind Martono. however, over the next five laps he made a comeback, and by lap six he was in fourth place, having scythed his way past Xiaoping, Takashi, Fujibayashi and Sharp on a circuit that was proving difficult to overtake at for others.

By lap 8, he was onto the tail of Joo-Woon Song, who had had a very good first lap to place himself third, and proceeded to defend his podium position rigourously from Sung-Tae- there was not only his teammate's fading championship challenge at stake, but surely a little national pride too. Nevertheless, the K-Apex driver was into third by the end of lap 10, but by then, the gap to second place had grown to over four seconds- he managed to close it to just one by the end of the race with several fastest laps, so had to settle for third, though at least that meant that only two points were dropped to Martono. Conversely, Zhou Xiaoping had a disappointing race to finish only sixth, while Ryunnosuke Takashi dropped two places from his starting position to eighth (only Harry Sharp's badly fading late race pace kept him from scoring just two points).

Zhou Xiaoping, perhaps attempting to make up for a poor first race, immediately clawed back some championship points with pole position for the second race, but would have Race 1 winner Go Gouriki right alongside him. The other championship contenders fared less well- Kwon Sung-Tae would start the furthest up the grid in fourth, but would be behind race 1 adversary Song and alongside Presley Martono on the grid- a poor start was simply not an option. Ryunnosuke Takashi had things even worse- twelfth place was not a good place to start on such a tight circuit, with so few overtaking oppurtunities and he would have to fight to even get into the points. Behind him were the two Aspire drivers, who had a far better run in the second session, Aswat even outqualifying the more experienced al Qubaisi. Kosuke Setou, meanwhile, managed to get his car on the grid for the first time since Motegi Oval, meaning it was Sakura Sekai who joined Choi Seul-Hae in failing to qualify.

Zhou Xiaoping took his third win of the year, and like his previous two victories it was a faultless performance, building a relatively huge winning margin of 4 seconds, leading every lap and setting the fastest lap to boot. Helpfully for the Chinese driver, the remainder of the top six was formed of driver's not in contention for the championship- Joo-Woon Song and Go Gouriki completed the rostrum, while Seong-Jin Cho, Kurumi Fujibayashi and Isyraf Danish having a great battle for fourth, the latter having one of his best runs this year to end up sixth. It was at the lower end of the top ten that Sung-Tae and Martono could be found, having their own private battle- both had lost places on the opening lap, the former briefly falling behind the latter into what was then ninth but recovering quickly and overtaking the Indonesian at the end of the lap.

For Sung-Tae, it was then a matter of gaining as many places as possible over Martono, but unlike in race 1, this was not damage limitation- he was eating into the points deficit. Unfortunately for him, this meant that the Calsonic driver was attacking also, so for every place he gained, Martono followed him through, the ultimate result being just a single point dent. Taking what must surely be a fatal blow though must surely be Ryunnosuke Takashi's title ambitions- he was muscled off the road at the first corner, dropping him even further down the field to fourteenth, and from there he could make no further progress, stuck behind the Aspire cars, only gaining a place because of late mechanical dramas for Hamda al Qubaisi, dropping her from thirteenth place, while Aswat had a far better race, holding eleventh until the last few laps, but ultimately settling for twelfth.

Stewards' Report:
Rudiartono has received 3 penalty points for causing an avoidable collision in Race 2.

Now for the Championship Standings, going into the final round:

Drivers Championship After R1-18
1 Xiaoping 161
2 Martono 156
3 Sung-Tae 152
4 Takashi 117
5 Gouriki 105
6 Song 71
7 Fujibayashi 65
8 Gafar 54
9 Sharp 53
10 Nielsen Frost 42
=10 Cho 42
12 Weerwatnodom 39
13 Shiqing 39
14 Suzuki 32
15 Danish 24
16 Murakami 22
17 Raharjo 16

20 al Qubaisi 9
=20 Koizomi 9
22 Kano 7
23 Miura 4
=23 Fernandez 4
25 Sekai 3
=25 Nhat 3
27 Seul-Hae 2
28 Setou 1
Zhou Xiaoping is now in the prime position to take the title in Shanghai, holding a five point advantage over Presley Martono, while Kwon Sung-Tae is a further four behind. The still-winless Ryunnosuke Takashi is now mathematically out of contention for the title, and may yet be caught for fourth by an in-form Go Gouriki, who's now only 12 points behind him in fifth, and well ahead of the battle for sixth between Joo-Woon Song and Kurumi Fujibayashi, who has been stealthily putting in consistent performances all season.

The final rounds should be up within the next fortnight, so feel free to comment and speculate about this year title and the silly season for 2020. (as well as sack drivers, but you'd be leaving it a bit late to be honest) before then.

Race 2: 3,22 :chilton:

Now let's wrap up the title at home!

Extraordinary rumours are floating around the Asian Formula 4 paddock that North Korean hotshot Joo-Woon Song will move to the South Korean K-Apex team for the 2020 season, a surprise given the political history between the two nations.

These were quick to be shot down by Song's management team however, saying it was not a possibility given the ideological split between the two nations.

"We shall not sully Song's reputation by entertaining an offer from a South Korean team," he said. "Best Korea holds itself to the highest standard, and will not co-operate with those who engage in treachery and encourage treason against the homeland."

A more likely destination for Song is the Red Dragon Junior Team, who will likely see their current lead driver and title challenger Zhou Xiaoping move up to Formula 3 next year. Given close ties between Beijing and Pyongyang, it seems likely Song will be slotted into the Chinese development team as a ready-made replacement for Xiaoping.

Go Gouriki put his Dome F4 car on pole for the fourth time this year, seeking to snatch fourth place in the championship from Ryunnosuke Takashi (who started eighth). But there was understandably more interest in the grid positions of the three ahead of them in the championship- and it was 3rd-placed Kwon Sung-Tae who had made the best start to his weekend, qualifying second. This was well ahead of Martono in fifth and championship leader Zhou Xiaoping in a very disappointing tenth place on the grid at his home event, with fellow Red Dragon teammate Xu Shiqing faring even worse in 19th. At the very back though, it was the usual suspects: Choi Seul-Hae and Kosuke Setou, who have failed to make the grid at least once for the last three race weekends.

After easily passing Go Gouriki into the first corner, Kwon Sung-Tae put on one of the most dominant performances of the whole season to win by over four and a half seconds, though he was pipped for fastest lap by Danial Nielsen Frost after an electrical fault put the Singaporean to the back of the field and hence in clean air late in the race. Gouriki did however hold onto a strong second, his third podium in as many races, and well ahead of 3rd-placed Seong-Jin Cho in a very spaced out top 10.

At the tail end of this top 10 were, to many's surprise, Presley Martono and Zhou Xiaoping, with a poor start hampering the latter's race, in fact dropping him behind Xiaoping in the opening laps, who had at least made progress to eighth. The Chinese driver faded however, not only losing out to championship rival Martono but Ryunnosuke Takashi, who also passed Martono to leave the then championship leader back where he started in tenth. There was one retirement in this race, and that was Sakura Sekai (her fourth this year, the joint highest amount), who had been battling with a severely off-colour Harry Sharp for 20th before a loose wheel ended her day.

For the final race this year, it was Ryunnosuke Takashi who started on pole position- perhaps this could be the chance to finally capture the win that has eluded his metronomically consistent campaign all year. Beside him was Harry Sharp, seemingly rediscovered the pace that was so lacking in Race 1, while Kwon Sung-Tae was again the best qualifying of the championship contenders in fourth, alongside Danial Nielsen Frost. The most eyecatching performance however, was from Omar Aswat in a stunning fifth, the best for Aspire Formula since Round 3 at Sentul. Less promising were Martono in ninth and Xiaoping in twelth, his typical race 2 surge in pace seemingly not in evidence, as the championship began to slip away from him. Meanwhile at the very back, it was not Choi Seul-Hae who failed to qualify (lining up 25th instead) for the first time in seven(!) races, meaning it was Rudiartono who joined Kosuke Setou in finishing 2019 on the sidelines.

Ryunnosuke Takashi got the best start off the front row, but it was again not enough as Danial Nielsen Frost swept around the outside of the luckless Japanese into the first corner (from third on the grid) to take a lead he wouldn't relinquish, although Takashi certainly did not give up without a fight, keeping within a second for most of the race and coming close to an overtake several times. Behind them was a more important battle however, as Presley Martono had made a far better getaway than in Race 1 and had caught and was jostling for what was then fourth with Kwon Sung-Tae, trading the place almost every lap.

After Race 1 however, snatching fourth wouldn't be enough for Martono- Sung-Tae was 9 points ahead of him, so to even equal his points tally he had to overhaul Harry Sharp and hope that the Korean fell to at least tenth, a tough ask at best. Unfortunately for him, this became a foregone conclusion, as Sung-Tae first made the move stick, then set a number of fastest laps to chase down Sharp and passed him for third- Martono later passed the Australian but by then it was too late. Zhou Xiaoping was potentially in a much stronger position, being only three points off going into Race 2, but he had bungled the start, dropping him even further down the field to sixteenth, from which he could only recover to eighth in the closing laps, the three championship points little consolation after an unmitigated disaster of a weekend for the Red Dragon Junior Team.

A much happier team was Aspire Formula, as Omar Aswat held on to a seventh-placed finish to equal the team's best this year, after holding sixth for much of the race, while Satoshi Murakami also ended the year on a high for Tsujimura Scuderia scoring two points for ninth.

Now for the moment you've all been waiting for, the Final Championship Standings for the 2019 Asian F4 Series:

With 177 points and four wins, Kwon Sung-Tae is the 2019 Asian F4 Champion , all this despite not leading the championship at any previous point in the season. Runners-up Presley Martono and Zhou Xiaoping finished with 166 and 165 points respectively, both ruing a comparatively poor weekend in Shanghai.

Elsewhere, Team RS will be relieved to see Ryunnosuke hold off Go Gouriki for fourth place and Joo-Woon Song hold off Kurumi Fujibayashi for sixth, an excellent result for a team with a seemingly uncertain future, while Omar Aswat managed to get onto the leaderboard at the last possible oppurtunity thanks to the four points for that seventh place.

So that's it for Asian F4 this year, but with champion Kwon Sung-Tae almost a sure bet for one of K-Apex's F3 seats next year, Presley Martono already confirmed with Theodore in F3 Asia and Zhou Xiaoping surely leaving the series for F3 also, there will be a whole new look to the title battle next year, sure to offer another classic season.
