QuickSim: Alternate F1 - The Manufacturer Era - 2000 Season

Post by Klon »

Let's get the usual stuff out of the way:

The Simulator

Simtek wrote:Grand Prix 2, same as what I use for Anglo-Irish F4, same as what Normal uses for F3 Eurasia, what novitopoli and CaptainGetz12 use for their F4 series, what Ataxia uses for IndyCar, what Pasta uses for... look, you get the idea, it's popular, it works, moving on.

The Cars

There will be little deviation from the cars that were run in real F1 in this time period, mostly slight performance adjustments based on the previous performance of a team the season before.

The Drivers

Before the start of each season, you are free to offer contracts for two driver slots.

Your choice will be limited in that you must fulfill two out of three objectives when signing drivers. Those objectives will be given and explained to you in private.

If multiple teams are looking for a certain driver, RNG will decide their fate.

The Teams

10 teams for 2000, 2 cars per team. Those 10 teams have been determined by the needs of the canon and previous developments:

Scuderia Ferrari (biscione)
Benson & Hedges Jordan (Reject_Dom)
West McLaren Mercedes (petoli)
Mild Seven Benetton Arrows (kevinbotz)
BMW WilliamsF1 Team (novitopoli)
Jaguar Racing F1 Team (pinkd56)
Red Bull Sauber Petronas (wizzie)
Gauloises Prost Peugeot (ataxia)
Fondmetal Minardi (Normal32)
British American Racing (This Could Be You)

I hereby ask all team owners to report back to the series.

If any team owners fail to report back, their replacements will be decided by me in a hopefully fair selection process.

The Race Weekend

305 km except Monaco, you all know how a Formula One race works. Furthermore, there will be two one-hour sessions to determine the grid.

The Points System

10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the time being.

The Race Calendar

See the wiki for updates

If this is all automated, what do I do?

You pick the drivers, hope for the best and if you wish, you may change the lineup by replacing a driver with a driver picked from one of my suggestions if you can provide a good justification. Mentally prepare yourself for more involvement in 2001.

Autosport wrote:Christopherson joins McLaren for 2000 Formula 1 season

British driver Jack Christopherson will join McLaren for the upcoming 2000 Formula 1 season, switching from long-time employer Jordan.

Christopherson had been widely expected to renew with Jordan for next year, having been with the team as far back as his Formula 3 days in 1987, but McLaren unexpectedly moved in for the 1988 F3000 runner-up after the 1999 season finale.

"I am honoured to become a McLaren driver," he said. "This is a team steeped in history, one of the most successful of all time in F1."

"I hope to challenge for the world championship both in 2000 and beyond. This is why I agreed to join; the team has the resources to help me achieve my objectives."

Despite the move, he was keen to stress he left Jordan on good terms, and would be happy to race for them again in the future if the opportunity presented itself.

"I'd like to especially thank Eddie Jordan for believing in me for so many years, and also for understanding my decision to come to McLaren."

"They are a team that will always be with me, and I will root for them if my own team is out of the equation. From F3 through to F1, they have always supported me, and I would not be here at McLaren without them."

James James Davies' dreadful end to the previous season appears to have caused a sudden change of plans for the Woking-based team, with team principal Ron Dennis looking at other options. The McLaren boss is said to have been unimpressed by the young Brit's mental fragility under the pressure of a title challenge, and brought in the more resilient Christopherson as a consequence.

motorsport.com wrote:Mika Häkkinen's McLaren-Mercedes has been disqualified from its race victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

After a lengthy post-race scrutineering session, the stewards' statement read: "When checking the front bodywork height, it was noticed that the front wing was only 43mm instead of 50mm above the reference plane which is described in article 3.12.1 of the 2000 FIA Formula One technical regulations."

With the disqualification, all subsequent positions are elevated, and the Jaguar team scores its first World Championship point.
