Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Mexico
Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Mexico
1. Kevin Magnussen - The Haas cars looked horrendous in qualifying. For Mags to come home in the points must seem like divine intervention for the team
2. Marcus Ericsson - Looked like he could score points for a large portion of this race.
Honourable mentions for Lance Stroll, he's now easily got the measure of Massa, and Sebastian Vettel for a great recovery drive, especially given how strung out the field ended up being.

1. Kevin Magnussen: How the bathplug did he score points in that awful Haas?
2. (shared, 3 points for each) Esteban Ocon: Best of the rest, looked like a podium contender at one point.
The Kvyat-Verstappen effect: It still applies: Every time Kvyat gets fired or demoted, Verstappen wins the race!

1.Marcus Ericsson -- Who expected this fella to drag the Sauber up to the points positions? Shame the VSC kinda screwed him over and he didn't see the finish
2.K-Mag -- Dragged the Haas to places it had no right being.

1- Magnussen, yes, the Hass was sh1t and he managed that sh1t well, (literally)
2- Ocon, nothing more satisfying than beat your teammate in his home race.
HM, Vettel, really good race, but not enough (that's for the year aswell)

1.) Verstappen - I know he wont get many points as he is highly unpopular here, but he lapped all but 5 cars and finished 54 seconds! in front of Kimi in 3rd!!! And didn't even break a sweat, literally!
2.) Vettel - Climbed from P19 to P4 and set the fastest lap of the race on lap 70. Gave it all he had.

1. The way the championship was won - although Hamilton was allowed to run away with the title after the summer break, he at least did it in the most rubbish way possible that I could think of: behind a Haas that qualified last.
2. Max Verstappen - that was solid pace. First race that's made me think he'll win a championship some day.

1. Magnussen: How did he finish in the points with that car?
2. Ericsson: He may have retired from the race, but for a while he was in the points and held off more powerful cars before pitting.

We'll be fine. It's Canon, non Kodak.

1. Magnussen - a Haas in the points was the last thing I expected after qualifying.
2. Verstappen - it shouldn't be a surprise but really it's the first time I've seen a Red Bull dominate a race like that since Vettel did that all the time in late 2013. All their other wins in between really were when Mercedes hit trouble (and Ferrari did in Malaysia this year).
Honourable mentions to Ocon, Stroll and Ericsson.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Mexico
1. Magnussen: Scored points after qualifying last, and comprehensively outperformed Grosjean.
2. The Verstappen-Kvyat Effect: It's like Daniil put a curse on Max or something...
HM:
Stroll: Outperformed Massa again, and was almost in contention for a podium after a poor qualifying
Hartley: He's getting faster every weekend- he's already outpacing Gasly, and before his engine gave up could have scored points.
Ericsson: Comfortably the faster of the Saubers before his engine gave up.

1 Magnussen ....completely surprised me
2. Ericsson ( I dont really think he's have got points if he'd continued, but pace was good)

I started supporting Emmo in 1976 (3 points )....missed 75, 74, 73, 72...

1/ Marcus Ericsson - For just driving well.
2/ Lance Stroll - For overtaking Massa in the WDC.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Mexico
And our Mexican results are in! The scores are as follows:
1. Kevin Magnussen 116
2. Marcus Ericsson 50
3. Kvyat getting fired and Max winning 28
4. Max Verstappen 22
5. Lance Stroll 18
6. The way the championship was won 10
7. Esteban Ocon 6
- Sebastian Vettel 6
So Kevin Magnussen takes his second IIDOTR victory this year, and his first outright. He qualified last and his recovery drive had him finish in front of the four-time world champion. And he certainly wasn't anonymous! Good job, Kevin. Ericsson also had good pace in a poor car, and spent a large chunk of the race in front of the aforementioned world champion. His retirement put a dampener on things, but it was a good drive nonetheless.
