On paper, Verstappen should absolutely walk this - then again we all thought that last year too! :)

A chaotic race at Silverstone has only six finishers, though Verstappen is also classified after a late retirement. Ocon takes his second win of the season (and becomes the first driver other than Verstappen to win more than one race this year). Magnussen takes his fifth second place of the year without a single win, and Vandoorne finishes third.

2018 (After ten races):

Verstappen 171 (6 wins, 1 3rd)
Sainz 132 (1 win, 2 2nd, 3 3rd)
Magnussen 125 (5 2nd, 1 3rd)
Ocon 114 (2 wins, 2 3rd)
Vandoorne 91 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Leclerc 84 (1 2nd)
Gasly 79 (1 win, 1 2nd)
Ericsson 64 (best result: 4th)
Stroll 63 (1 3rd)
Sirotkin 34 (best result: 6th)
Hartley 31 (best result: 5th)

Edited after Gasly penalty.

Hartley on six points after Australia, do we think he'll even equal that by real-life season end? ;)

I first saw this thread back in 2012 or something, and it has always interested me. Coming back to it this season is making me chuckle to read over some of the old results.

The most interesting statistic for me, which I never saw anyone comment on, is that Nelson Piquet appears to be the only champion whose championship in this version happened after his real life one. It also seems amazing that in his third year at Red Bull, only now is Max Verstappen looking secure to actually win a championship.

It's the same for me. :) This hadn't been updated in several races so I felt I had to keep it up to date – this was back in 2012, it's incredible how time flies. And even now, I can't really say I'm active on the forums anymore but updating this thread is always one of the first things I do after watching each race. :D

That's fascinating indeed! I also like how Hülkenberg is a champion here, though he doesn't even have a podium in real life.

Verstappen was really unlucky not to win last year – it's incredible how he took 12 wins to Pérez's 4 and still lost to him! If I remember correctly, 12 is actually the record for most wins in a season here (at least Webber has done it before), though Verstappen might have a chance of breaking that record this season.

Was just talking to a mate about this, and he was suggesting that, as so many of the real world champions were crowned a few seasons early here, it's a good way of seeing who will the near-future champions in real life.

I just really hope Hülkenberg and Pérez get their real-life chances, though I know Räikkönen will be taking up whatever seat they're needing for the next half-decade at least...

Verstappen takes yet another win, and it's going to take a lot of bad luck or errors for him not to win the title! Sainz and Leclerc also finish on the podium, the former now taking second place in the championship.

Verstappen 271 (10 wins, 1 3rd)
Sainz 196 (1 win, 3 2nd, 5 3rd)
Ocon 178 (2 wins, 3 2nd, 2 3rd)

Verstappen wins yet another race at Sochi and is heading towards the championship he should have won last year – he already has a chance to clinch it in the next race! Leclerc matches his career best finish with a second place and Magnussen finished third.

Sainz 200 (1 win, 3 2nd, 5 3rd)

Indeed. :D It's pretty surprising that Ericsson was ahead a while ago... and he's ahead again after today! Much more surprising than Verstappen already clinching the title (Ocon and Sainz were on the podium but they would have had to beat Verstappen to stay in contention). :P He's likely to break the record for most wins in a season too...

2018 (After seventeen races):

Verstappen 321 (12 wins, 1 3rd)
Sainz 215 (1 win, 3 2nd, 6 3rd)
Ocon 208 (2 wins, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)

Those two must be the pre-season favorites – I think Leclerc will have the upper hand but who knows? :)

Champion Verstappen takes yet another win in the U.S. By doing so, he matches the record for most wins in a season, held by Barrichello (2000) and Alonso (2005), and looks very likely to break it... Sainz finishes second in the race, but third place is a surprise – Hartley gets his first podium after the disqualifications of Ocon and Magnussen! This leaves Sirotkin as the only driver without a podium this season.

2018 (After eighteen races):

Verstappen 346 (13 wins, 1 3rd)

Sainz 233 (1 win, 4 2nd, 6 3rd)
Ocon 208 (2 wins, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)
Magnussen 186 (6 2nd, 3 3rd)
Gasly 152 (2 wins, 1 2nd)
Ericsson 143 (1 3rd)
Vandoorne 136 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Leclerc 127 (2 2nd, 1 3rd)

In Mexico, Verstappen takes a record-breaking 14th win of the season! Leclerc finishes second and Vandoorne third (his first podium since Silverstone). Sainz is the only driver not to finish, allowing Ocon to catch him a little in the battle for second in the championship...

Verstappen 371 (14 wins, 1 3rd)
Sainz 233 (1 win, 4 2nd, 6 3rd)
Ocon 216 (2 wins, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)

The gap this season is ridiculous. I mean, Verstappen's rival Ocon took him out, and he still won by nearly a lap against Leclerc. Talk about Formula 1.5 ;)

Leclerc continues his domination, winning his third race in a row in China. However, he misses out on the fastest lap this time, as second-placed Gasly manages to take the extra point. Third place goes to Albon – the first podium of his career.

Leclerc 77 (3 wins)
Gasly 46 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 36 (1 2nd)
Albon 35 (1 3rd)

At Baku, Leclerc takes his fourth win out of four races, as well as his third fastest lap of the season. The McLaren duo get the other podium spots, Sainz finishing ahead and finally getting a good result after a difficult start to the season.

It's not really looking like the most exciting season at the moment, especially with closest challenger Gasly failing to finish... But looking at the positives, the fight for second place is extremely tough at the moment! Also worth noting is that Williams has been very consistent, if nothing else. ;)

2019 (After four races):

Leclerc 103 (4 wins)
Gasly 46 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Stroll 45 (1 3rd)
Albon 45 (1 3rd)
Norris 44 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 42 (1 2nd)
Giovinazzi 30 (best result: 5th)
Sainz 27 (1 2nd)
Russell 16 (best result: 4 8th)
Kubica 8 (best result: 4 9th)

Leclerc's win streak finally comes to an end, as he retires in Monaco. Gasly takes his first win of the season, also setting the fastest lap. Sainz and Albon get the other two podium spots. Also. Williams did not finish last – Russell was an impressive sixth out of nine finishers (with Kubica eighth)!

2019 (After six races):

Leclerc 129 (5 wins)
Gasly 90 (1 win, 2 2nd, 1 3rd)
Albon 70 (2 3rd)
Magnussen 67 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Sainz 57 (2 2nd)
Norris 56 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Stroll 51 (1 3rd)

Gasly 108 (1 win, 3 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 73 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)

Sainz 69 (2 2nd)
Stroll 66 (2 3rd)
Norris 56 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Giovinazzi 50 (best result: 2 5th)

Unsurprisingly, Leclerc wins the French Grand Prix and sets the fastest lap. Sainz finishes second ahead of Norris who had an amazing drive in spite of car problems. All ten drivers finished the race, with Kubica finishing ahead of Russell for the first time.

Leclerc 181 (7 wins)
Gasly 120 (1 win, 3 2nd, 1 3rd)
Sainz 87 (3 2nd)
Albon 78 (2 3rd)
Magnussen 77 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Stroll 76 (2 3rd)
Norris 71 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
