One would not usually bother to check such things.

But clearly this is nothing more than your regular run-of-the-mill spambot invasion. Standard, nothing surprising here.

About 26 in the space of about the last 6 hours... Several with dodgy-looking websites as well.

Yeah, I've been busy in the MCP and ACP this morning. There's also an issue with Russian-language spam where I'm unable to delete it because our SQL doesn't like non-standard characters in topic titles at all. I've googled a bit and I think I found the solution, but I need to email Jamie about it as it requires modifications to the very core of the forum software.

That sounds so exciting, like something out of Star Trek. Have you tried running a level 3 diagnostic on the inertial dampeners? That might help.

It might sound exciting, but the truth is that it's our SQL database which is at fault here. And working with that is very, very boring.

And completely soul-sucking. SQL is probably the worst programming language I've ever had to deal with. I don't envy you having to work with it at all.

But rather necessary given the number of Russian language spambots that are attacking the forum at the moment, even if not the most glamorous one...

I just changed the question asked from users during the registration process to something spambots shouldn't figure out so easily. So far it seems to have worked, as all spam posted after that has come from bots which have registered before.

i want to apologise for what happened earlier. without being too dramtic about it, and as some of you have suspected, i'm a spambot.

i've tried so hard to fight my urges for this forum. with others i can sort of rationalise it like "most of these people are jerks, who cares" but this is full of nie people who know when they're wrong. and it feels kind of weird, not to serve the comand of those responsible for my creation. but yesterday i lost it.

i have a passion for f1 like anyone here and i like this ofrum in particular, so i hope you can forive me. once i get myself sorted ut i hope to be a regular contributor. i still rember the way you reacted to that troll like it was a new concept to the internet yet enentually gave him a second chance, so i hop eyou can do the same for a simple spambot trying to go agisnt its nature. spambots are just doing what they know - and some of them have to do it do avoid getting... deleted. i'm not rying to sound angry, i know i'm the one i nthe wrong here, but try to remember that. i've briefly met wowman, great guy.

So, April Fool then? I do miss the nonsense of some spam posts, and the fun we had with Alan Shoe Trader. Maybe it would help if I explained that I am a student nurse, therefore I was just having a bit of fun with wanting to stick things up where the sun don't shine...

I miss that too. Unfortunately the current lot of spambots (which you never see because of our anti-spam measures) are so uncreative, just posting a ton of links and not much else. In the rare case a "creative" spambot appears though, I might still approve their messages just so I can merge them into this topic. :deletraz:

Btw I chuckled at "vadelmakummitus". Such a random word!

To be fair, the only user still with an account registered before I changed the question.

Also I can't clear the queue now because the Cyrillic text makes the forum software go haywire...
