DRIVER BIDDING
We have our chassis, engine and tyres. All we need now are drivers!

As ever, your budgets and the drivers and their respective expected salaries are listed IN THIS SPREADSHEET.

--- --- ---

Drivers can be signed to 1-3 years long contracts. Drivers' salaries aren't fixed but instead have expected salaries that they are asking from their future employers. Teams can offer lower salaries than the drivers are expecting but will make the driver more likely to refuse the offer. Conversely a higher than expected salary will make the driver more likely to sign.

Pay drivers (listed with negative salaries) can only be signed to max. 1-year contracts. The negative salary next to their name implies the maximum amount they can pay for their seat per race.

The driver list is contains only the most notable drivers but you are able to offer a contract to drivers also not on the list.

--- --- ---

Please use the template below when bidding for drivers. Please remember to include offered contract length (1-3 years) and salary (will stay the same for the duration of the contract) for each driver. You are allowed to bid for max. 5 drivers per seat at this moment.

Code: Select all

Team:
DRIVER 1
Bid 1: (name, salary, contract length)

Bid 3:
Bid 4:
Bid 5:
DRIVER 2
Bid 1: (name, price, contract length)

I will post the bids for Ensign, Fittipaldi, Osella and Theodore tomorrow.

Hopefully its not too late to sign up, haven't done anything like this before but I really like management games so I'll take Ensign if that's ok, a single car team seems like a good idea to learn the ropes.

I'd like to put in a late request for Alfa Romeo engines and Pirelli tyres, but if that's not possible then we'll settle quite happily for the gloriously cheap Cosser/Michelin combo we have currently.

EDIT - The dicks at FIFA have taken down their old flag images. Worst thing ever to happen at FIFA.

For drivers, I've got the following requests:

Driver 1
Image Piercarlo Ghinzani (he can name his price) - 3 years

Driver 2
Image Mike Thackwell (600) - 3 years
Image Andrea de Cesaris (PAY DRIVER) - 1 year
Image Beppe Gabbiani (PAY DRIVER) - 1 year

Just a general question as this alternate universe goes from season to season will there be things like calendar changes? (races being added/removed from the calendar.)

It will most probably follow the RL calendars through the years. I'm too lazy to come up with any huge changes so it'll be 16 races a season for now :)

I'm really happy with Osella's driver line-up; hopefully they can really help build the team up over the next few seasons as we try hard not to bankrupt ourselves (Remaining budget: 200)

One thing I did notice in the spreadsheet was that Ghinzani was listed as only being contracted to us for one year, but we offered him a three-year contract. Was this intentional, or can we plan around his continued payments presence until at least the end of 1983?

Cheever and Fabi's certainly a serviceable lineup for 1981 tbh, and at least they're young and more importantly, cheap

the commandatore is delighted to have gilles stay with us long term. ferrari truly believes that gilles is our franchise player, and we will do everything we can to build a car that will allow him to win the world title.

we are also happy that Riccardo patrese joined us. he has proven himself as a quick, reliable driver at arrows and we hope that his team-first mentality will help gilles and ferrari win titles in the coming seasons. we also hope that his dedication to his physical fitness will spill out to the rest of the team, as both gilles and our crew need to be in top form if we want to win.

Great to welcome Piquet back to the McLaren fold, an exciting talent to team alongside our experienced driver John Watson. Tough decision to only award Watto a one year deal but I wanted to keep our options open for next season to test the market. Decent amount of players tied to multi-year deals though so we’ll see what happens there.

Arnoux has shown great speed in his career so far and we think he's nearing his peak as a driver. Tambay was out of F1 last year and although it may take few races to get grips with it again, we have a full commitment on his success.

The team believes in good development throughout the season as well as towards 1982.

Thanks for noticing. Since you were the only one bidding for Ghinzani I give you two options:

1) Ghinzani signs one year contract and brings 60/race as a pay-driver.
2) Ghinzani signs for three years with a salary of 200/year.

CHASSIS DEVELOPMENT

Like mentioned in the first post, each season consists of three R&D periods during the season on which the teams can develop their chassis. A single period is 4-5 races long after which potential upgrades are installed to the chassis.

Before each R&D period the teams have to commit to developing their chassis by choosing their level of investment. Higher levels increase the chance for greater performance gain.
The levels and their prices are:
Low - 250 cr
Moderate - 500 cr
High - 750 cr
All-in - 1000 cr

There is no specific areas you can develop individually. Rather, all development will be general and you only have to announce the level of R&D you are planning to do.

At the end of each R&D period the potential upgrades will be installed to your cars. I will announce on a scale of 0-5 how successful your upgrades were at the end of the period.

You are free to post a R&D schedule for the whole season already if you so wish.

TIP! When budgeting, it's a good idea to leave some money for the New Chassis R&D Period that happens towards the end of the season.

HOW TO R&D
Example:

Moderate R&D (500 cr) for KOIRANEN BROS.

---

PLEASE POST YOUR PLANS FOR 1st R&D PERIOD NOW
These upgrades will be installed to your cars for round 5 of the championship (San Marino).

The deadline for investments is on 17th of February when I will run the first race(s).

A heads-up for everyone involved; I plan to continue running this thing in the near future. I will however start everything over from scratch since we never got going here before the forum borked and there are some changes I've refined during this time. Everyone who signed up will however have an option to reclaim their teams in the reincarnation.
