Ligier supports option C: Zunino clearly needs a bunch of driver briefings.

VDS supports option C, Bernie wants to run things the British way, that means running it like British Leyland.

Autosport wrote:Dywa To Miss French GP, No Reason Given
Another twist in the tumultuous tale of the turbulent Dywa team has taken place today, with the annoucement that the enigmatic team will not be taking part at the upcoming French Grand Prix. Dydo Monguzzi's refusal to provide a reason for the team's absence as only fanned the flames of speculation surrounding his team that have been raging since the International Trophy just over a month ago.
At that non-championship race, Dywa made headlines by entering an all-female lineup of Italians Ottavia Cacciatori and Lena Troscchi, the latter of whom was making her first start in a racing car just over a year after almost losing her life in that infamous Dywa GP race at Rouen. Furthermore, their cars eschewed the traditional plain-white scheme for a vibrant red-black livery, notably containing the sponsorship of l'Unità, the newspaper of the Italian Communist Party. Whilst Cacciatori did about as well as anyone could in a Dywa, finishing the race seven laps down, Troscchi was another two laps behind her, and both cars wrought havoc on the track as moving chicanes, drawing the ire of the rest of the paddock.
At the Monaco Grand Prix, Dywa made further headlines by releasing Beppe Gabbiani to replace him with Lena Troscchi, again drawing ire from many of the teams, most notably Boro. The presence of Troscchi, a noted communist, on the grid at a venue like Monaco did not sit well with the ACM, and they put pressure on Dywa to not run her. Dywa ulitmately acquiesced and Ottavia Cacciatori, already at the track to compete in Procar, was drafted in at short notice to replace her. This series of events gives Lena Troscchi quite possibly the record of shortest career in Formula 1 to date.
The team would go under the radar again until the San Marino Grand Prix, where they would yet again be embroiled in controversy; just days before the race, the team announced it was releasing Arsenio Matarazzo to be replaced by promising youngster Teo Fabi, who had previously turned down an offer to drive in the International Trophy for the team. However, the team would find themselves turned away at the gates by the circuit, apparently because they had not paid the necessary fees to compete. Many immediately suspected more sinister motivations for the exclusion. The ousted Matarazo quickly found himself a new spot in the Merzario team, replacing Renzo Zorzi, his teammate from the previous year. Allegedly, Renzo Zorzi was seen with Ottavia Cacciatori drowning their sorrows in a local pub not long after pre-qualifying had concluded at Imola.
All this has led some to suspect that Matarazzo's ousting was precisely why the Imola organisers refused to let Dywa in, and was also part of why Merzario suddenly replaced Zorzi with Matarazzo. Whether or not it is in any way connected to Dywa's impending absence at Dijon-Prenois is unclear; as stated earlier, no reason has been given, and perhaps we will never know why. In any case, it is highly unlikely that this will be the last we hear of the Dywa team this year and we can be sure of more sudden twists and turns in this bewildering saga.

Fastest Lap: Jody Scheckter - 1:40.521
Drive of the race: Ronnie Peterson: A retirement 6 from home ruined what was a sure shot at second place.
Reject of the race:Keke Rosberg: Should have been there to mop up the Williams / Sheckter / Peterson spillage. Nil points will leave the Finn with plenty of explaining to do.
Dishonourable mentions: Thomas Nurmester - worst drive of the year and he still manages to steal a win. Williams will be ruing a double retirement on a weekend Nurmester was 13th on pace after lap 1.

But of course, all race results will be provisional pending the outcome of a protest by Ferrari that is expected to be supported by their fellow FISA teams, citing the non-attendance of the majority of the grid at the mandatory driver safety briefing at the French Grand Prix. Should this protest be upheld, the win could yet fall for Jean-Pierre Jabouille, and the second-place to Keke Rosberg.

FISA statement to all teams wrote:The following teams will recieve a £100,000 fine for missing the /mandatory/ driver safety

- Tyrrell
- Lotus
- Brabham
- March
- Williams
- Ensign
- Boro
- Arrows North Star
- ATS Kauhsen
- Everest
- B&S Fabrications
- Hesketh

Additionally, McLaren will recieve a 50,000 fine as Jacky Ickx did not show up to the driver
briefing.

FISA thanks the following teams for putting driver safety first:

- Ferrari
- Ligier
- Alfa
- Renault
- Interscope
- Merzario
- VDS

FISA also extends thanks to Masahiro Hasemi, who also attended the driver safety briefing.

FISA would also like to remind teams that any future offenses will also receive a further £100,000 fine

Bernard Charles Eccelestone wrote:If we pay this fine, we are submitting to the will of Balestre and his FISA cronies. And we can't have that....

All FOCA teams that skipped the driver briefing for the French Grand Prix will also skip the driver briefing for the British Grand Prix. Consequently, the fines will not be deducted from the budgets yet.

Michelin press release wrote:Skirts are "too dangerous" for Formula One

Michelin have decried the use of ground effects 'skirts' in Formula One, following the retirement of Michelin-shod Ronnie Peterson in the French Grand Prix. The Swede, filling in for the injured Tom Pryce at Tyrrell, was lucky to avoid serious injury when his Michelin tyre delaminated with 6 laps to go in the race.

"The excessive g-forces are too much for the construction of the tyre" a representative said.

The announcement comes as a spending review within the company threatens the exit of the French manufacturer from Formula One.

Dywa, having missed the French Grand Prix, will be making a return to the grid at the British Grand Prix. The team is offering the #35 machine to Enrico Uncini and the #36 machine to Guido Dacco.

It looks like Michelin are not up to the challenge of Formula 1. I don't know what they're thinking. Are they actuallly suggesting we should change our cars to accomodate their sub-standard product? There are four other tyre manufacturers in Formula 1 who are capable of producing tyres that handle the forces of modern Formula 1 cars just fine. Our partners at Goodyear are supplying fine tyres that produce great grip and last an entire race distance. If Michelin's tyres can't handle g-forces, they should supply Dywa Grand Prix or the Citroen 2CV cup.

On the missed driver briefing:
We will not pay the fine. It is the responsibility of the race organizers to make sure the schedule is correct and FISA cannot expect our drivers to be present at an unscheduled meeting. Contrary to Mr. Balestre's claims, FOCA and all teams represented by it are committed to driver safety. I'd like to remind everyone that it was Bernie who ensured that Dr. Sid Watkins is now present at the track in case of any medical emergency.

As for FOCA, half the teams within face bankruptcy if they went along with Mr. Ecclestone for however long this goes for. If he wants us to boycott more driver briefings after France (if they are on the FISA official schedules) he better give some financial support back to the teams too to offset these crippling fines, or he will find FOCA crippled when half the teams close their doors.

Sighinolfi looking for full-time drive in 1980, considering options outside B&S

A Graham Eden Racing car that's close enough for me to pretend it's the one Sighinolfi drove.

While Luciano Sighinolfi took a winding route to Formula One, with a brief stint in Dywa GP after a nomadic career in Italian Formula Three, it is hard to argue against the fact that he has impressed since he arrived. In his occasional World Championship entries for B&S Fabrications and Graham Eden Racing, he has yet to prequalify. Not that anyone expected him to: the March-Renzo, Spartec-Ford and Chevron-Ford cars were all some way off the pace.

What has been most impressive, however, is how he has established himself as a very safe pair of hands. In three non-championship races, he has recorded finishing positions of 14th (BRDC International Trophy), 12th (Race of Champions) and 4th (Tony Brise Memorial Trophy). Even in Dywa GP, a stint of his career that was ultimately overshadowed by a brutal accident involving Sighinolfi and Lena Trosschi, he finished two out of the three races he competed in, finishing third and fifth respectively.

With a burgeoning reputation, Sighinolfi now feels that he has earned the opportunity of a full-time drive in 1980. He is rumoured to have set his sights on the Scuderia Everest team, around which circle suggestions that they are to be bought out and rebranded by Enzo Osella ahead of the following season. Further details will be reported as they emerge.

Reject of the race: Emerson Fittipaldi - de Angelis at least put the Alfa where it should have been. Emmo spent his TBT jobbing out to privateers and making a case for his imminent retirement.

Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Trophy

Post by pasta_maldonado »

Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Trophy
A non-championship race will be held at Anderstorp in honour of Gunnar Nilsson who tragically passed away in 1978. Only 26 cars are allowed to enter the race. Arrows and Ensign have been given free entry as they employed Nilsson, as have Team Västkuststugan who employed him in F2.

A flat travel fee of £15,000 will apply to all other entrants.

Teams running a Swedish driver get free entry.

Any driver currently signed to drive for all races for a team will automatically race for you if you so choose in the Trophy. You are free to sign different drivers, however, they will be subject to an RNG. Drivers for non-champiosnhip teams will also be subject to RNG. Wages do not have to be paid to any driver competing in a non-championship Grand Prix. However, injuries may still occur.

Prize money will be given out to teams in the usual fashion.

Link in case table does not work properly for you.

Please remember that entries are on a first come first served basis and as a result the entry list will close when it is full.

Please use the following forms for submitting entries:

GNMT line-ups have been sorted and can be found on the NC entry spreadsheet. I have filled in the missing seats as follows:

Ensign #1 - Silvio Bachot (DEC: GB)
Ensign #2 - Gabriela Mondadori (DEC: Nuppiz)
Everest #2 - Sven-Erik Edlund (Admittedly I missed you'd nominated Cheever. Apologies)

These are non-negotiable.

AutoPilot Magazine wrote:Team Ensign demands protest of Ligier and FISA, calls for Bernie support

Early reports this morning suggest that Guy Ligier and his struggling, shoddy French failure of an outfit have somehow managed to sign Ronnie Petersen for the GN Memorial Trophy. In these negotiations, a source has reported that Ligier made an under-the-table agreement with Petersen to agree to break his contract with Team Ensign, in a clear showing of collusion that surely stems from the Anglo-French Wars of the past.

Mo Nunn and Team Ensign demand an immediate investigation into Petersen and Ligier and call for FOCA and Bernie Eccelstone to call for strong punishment.

"With these developments, any FOCA driver can be convinced to leave their team for FISA," said a stressed Mo Nunn. "It is imperative we catch these bandits and show that Great Britain is truly great!"

Sources also say that Mo Nunn is in the process of reaching out to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative Party in hopes of saving the pride of Great Britian.

Autosport Archives wrote:From the Archives: ___________ rushed to hospital following qualifying crash
July 1979

Qualifying for the German Grand Prix was halted to airlift ________ to hospital following a horrific accident at the Ostkurve.

Following qualifying, I will run an RNG to determine which at-risk driver will be involved in the crash.
Once the unlucky candidate has been selected, I will run an additional RNG to determine whether it is severe career ending injury or death

I have determined the following list of at-risk drivers based on:
a) them being alive when they 'shouldn't' be
b) senior drivers whose F1 careers ended around this time and do not go on to play a major role in future canon competitions
c) Their role in canon needs to be reduced due to my earlier foolishness

Code: Select all

Ronnie Peterson
Tom Pryce
Jody Scheckter
Nelson Piquet
Didier Pironi
Emerson Fittipaldi
Jacky Ickx
Vittorio Brambilla

Consequently, these drivers will be making an appearance at the German Grand Prix, so cannot be sacked until after the race (if they survive)

Each driver will have a weighting depending on how much borrowed time they have.
If your driver is selected, you will get a free replacement for the rest of the season only.

Guy Ligier wrote:Vell, Ronnie izt not a angalise driver, so therefore your government has no say in it, the swedish government has approved of our decision, and has actively helped us negotiate as they wanted him to get out of this Team Unseen mess. If Thatcher wants to make this a pan-europeenne problem, i suggest the UK can just say goodbye to being in the European community and the precious Europe trade deals keeping their terrible economy afloat.

Fastest Lap: Tom Pryce - 1:28.214
Drive of the race: Eje Elgh - Shoving a Hesketh on pole (despite British reports of timing inaccuracies) and outpacing your experienced team-mate on debut is always going to net you DOTR.
Honourable Mention: Clay Regazzoni - Proved his inherent worth to the F1 paddock.
Reject of the race: Kaal Wigin - Lost his mind after a slight collision with Pryce and attempted to ram the Tyrrell off the road.
