Drivers:
The driver market is now OPEN! The driver and pay driver lists are intended as a guide rather than a definitive list, so feel free to bid for those not listed, but bear in mind the following contracts:

Ferrari: Mario Andretti (250k, all)
Ferrari: Keke Rosberg (50k, all)
McLaren: Masahiro Hasemi (PD, all)
Osella: Luciano Sighinolfi (PD, all)
Riviera: Alberto Colombo (PD, all)

Please also bear in mind some drivers are unable to be signed. View the Unavailable Drivers tab on the spreadsheet for more info.

Remember that the maximum driver contract length is 2 years.
Offering a pay driver a wage will dramatically increase your chance of signing them, and stop them from becoming a pay driver.

Designers
Da Rules wrote:: Designers
- Designers are like drivers – they have team preferences, must be paid a wage, can be hired for a maximum of 1 year, and are subject to RNG.
- NEW: Designer contracts are now 1-year.
- Designers do not affect mid-season upgrades
- NEW: You must pick one bonus and one penalty for your chosen designer. This cannot be changed after they have been hired.
- NEW: You can get 2 bonuses for double the designers wage, but you also get 2 penalties.
- NEW: A designer can only be offered the wage stated on the spreadsheet OR double the wage stated on the spreadsheet.
- NEW: All teams must sign a designer to build and upgrade chassis.
- More information is provided on the Designers tab of the spreadsheet.

Designers have preferences toward teams, and are signed via RNG like drivers, except you cannot offer a designer more or less money than the value listed. They can be signed for a maximum of 1 year at a time. All teams must sign a designer to build and upgrade chassis.

You must select a bonus and a penalty for each designer you make an offer to. This cannot be changed if they accept your offer. Remember, that for double the wage you can get double the bonuses - but you also get both penalties.

All values apart from grip range are added to your chassis after construction.

The following teams have a mandatory designer:
- March: Robin Herd
- Lotus: Colin Chapman

Please submit driver and designer bids using the form below.

Budgets on the sheet have been updated to take into account mergers, sponsors, and travel fees.

So everyone is aware, designers bonuses and penalties will apply to chassis conversion and new chassis generation, but NOT mid season upgrades.

I have to add that Mignolet is confirmed as second choice, not as first choice, as i'd also rather have Boutsen in that car. (VDS take-over condition)

Autosport wrote:Forghieri set to leave Ferrari

After a rather disappointing season, which didn't see Ferrari seriously challenging for any championships, the reset button is pushed at Ferrari. Chief Designer Mauro Forghieri will leave the Ferrari racing team, after he finished the development of an all new turbocharged engine with his team earlier this year.

The decision appears to be mutual, although insiders suggest that tensions between Forghieri and company owner Enzo Ferrari have been building for quite a while.

Luton Herald and Post wrote:B&S "the new home of British talent" - Sparshott

Spartec's driver pairing is the talented British duo of Rupert Keegan and Stephen South.

Bob Sparshott of local Formula One team B&S Fabrications looked extremely proud of himself today when announcing his team's driver line-up for the 1980 Formula One season. For sixteen of the season's seventeen scheduled Grands Prix, the team will be fielding Rupert Keegan (25) and Stephen South (28), both of whom have long been tipped to achieve big things at the highest level.

Rupert Keegan has been on the F1 radar since his stellar British Formula Three season in 1976, but has lived in the shadow of the similarly named Robert Kagan, the long-standing Tyrrell driver who Spartec purportedly also approached for the 1980 season.

South, meanwhile, made his name differently, with a stellar drive in substandard machinery at the Monaco Formula 3 Grand Prix. Since then, he has made a stuttering start to his Formula One career with a sequence of DNPQs driving for the British Formula One Racing Team and Hesketh. Finally, perhaps later than he might have liked, he is going to get a full season in a car he should be able to qualify comfortably. He, as Keegan, has signed a two-year deal.

Well... almost a full season. At the Belgian Grand Prix, as agreed with VDS Racing Team, the team has to run a Belgian in Belgium. The Belgian they have chosen is the very young Thierry Boutsen (22). For now, this will be a one-off for him, but it will most certainly be a shop window.

Sparshott, as one might expect, was very proud of his signings. "This is the start of B&S being a home for the most exciting British talents," he told our reporter. "And Belgian talent, when that round of the Championship rolls around. We are confident that we can provide them a car in which they can shine."

The source went on to say that the league is predicted to have "many good races between now and then".

Last weekend’s Grand Prix at Kyalami was called off after just 64 laps when a political protest spilled out onto parts of the track. The event, set to be the first race of WFMS regulations but run under Formula Libre rules, was won by Alan Jones for Williams but deemed to be a farce.

“I almost hit a protestor at the back of the course” said race winner Jones “although they were faster than the Dywas”

Reaction to the event has not been positive, with several sponsors and suppliers urging FOCA / WFMS ringleader Bernie Ecclestone to capitulate for the good of the sport

“We’re used to being in tight spots but we feel this is a step too far” said Durex spokesperson Dick Johnson.
“The indignity of being associated with a one-and-done farce is too much”

It is also rumoured that several other major sponsors, in particular Essex Oil and TAG, are threatening to leave the sport over the WFMS brouhaha. This comes after tyre suppliers Dunlop and Avon announced they would no longer be supplying the sport earlier this month.

Chassis

New chassis are constructed in just the same way as last season. Your designer adds their bonuses and penalties after chassis construction. You can either:
- Construct a brand new chassis
- Convert your 1979 chassis to 1980 rules.
- 1979 chassis cannot be run unupgraded

As always, the variables you need to know are:
- Grip: duh
- Build Quality (BQ): Inherent reliability of your car. 1 point = 1 rel
- Handling: Random Grip Range. 1 point = 100 RGR
- Drag: 1 point = -1 BHP
- Mass: 1 point = -1 grip

Chassis tier information is on the spreadsheet.

Sell Chassis
You have the option to sell your chassis to collectors for 10% of it's build value. This ONLY applies to chassis you have built yourself. You cannot sell chassis to other teams. Obviously, if you sell your chassis, you have to build or buy a new one. You cannot sell your chassis and convert it to 1980 rules.
