Order of Racing demands the immediate suspension of Scuderia Verona, who must surely have been aware and perhaps even complicit in the death of the real "Ouragan" - the filthy heretics.

Scuderia Verona reiterate that the body of a elderly goat farmer found in Lake Pergusa is not "Ouragan". Ouragan is not the only elderly goat farmer in France and this body is another French goat farmer plus how can Ouragan be dead when he has taken part in the last couple of races. Rumours have been circulating around the Dywa paddock that the Ouragan racing is not the same Ouragan and that he has been replaced by another driver. Other teams have pointed to the upturn in his pace as evidence of this. That is simply not true us at Verona have known about the true pace of Ouragan and he has worked hard over the off season to improve his pace these last few races have been the result of that.
Police in Italy found the body of a French goat farmer and people for some reason are assuming that this is Ouragan and he is dead he is not though. We all know that his participation has caused a buzz among the goat farming community and that goat attendance at races is at a all time high. We are sure Dywa have official figures to back that up.
This is a tragic coincidence and people have called for Ouragan to reveal his identity but he doesn't want to and we should respect his wished

Fifty Years in Motorsport, Vittoria Tessarini, published 2005 wrote:
Chapter 5: 1978 - My Formula 1 Nightmare

In 1978, my dream of Formula 1 came true - and it turned out to be a nightmare. By the time my team had grown into a serious contender, the world championship was well and truly out of reach. Too professional, too intensive in both costs and resources. Our little sportscar team wasn't ready to compete on the highest level. We did consider entering the British Aurora series, but it would have required a move to Britain and we didn't want to commit to that, didn't want to gamble the team's future on an Aurora move working.

Enter Dydo Monguzzi. Dydo was a man with big dreams and without the resources to match them. I cannot blame him for chasing his Formula 1 dream, after all, didn't I do the same? His cars were terribly slow and had no chance to pre-qualify for Championship Events, but they ran reliably enough in non-championship races. So when he announced a one-make series in 1978, it seemed exactly like the right thing for us to do, something a bit like an Italian Aurora series.

What I didn't realize at the time, and should have realized if I had done my due diligence, is that the cars for Dywa GP weren't built by Monguzzi himself. He had simply sold his F1 design to a Sicilian company called Renzo engineering, infamous for building sub-standard Cosworth clones for people who couldn't afford proper engines. And if you thought Renzo's engines were bad, you had not seen their chassis yet. Bodywork with the strength of tinfoil, leaky brakes and askew suspensions were only the most obvious problems we encountered.

When the cars arrived at our base, we were dismayed to see that they were not up to the standards of the Dywas I had seen at Imola the previous summer. The build quality was shocking. We did a shakedown and the car was shaken to pieces after half a kilometer. But we had commited to this series so we were determined to make the most out of it. We spent three weeks trying to get the cars into a working condition before we took them down to Enna. We learnt that the other teams had the same struggles, and in an embarrassing display of engineering ineptitude, none of the twenty-six cars finished the race, the few remaining cars running out of fuel as Renzo Engineering had given us false fuel consumption figures.

The series attracted an illustrous crowd. Most of them were just ordinary motorsports people with naive dreams of F1, just like us. My teammate was Timo Fuchs, a young German with Formula 1 ambitions. He was one of the most talented drivers in the series, though I am afraid I was not able to provide him with the machinery he deserved.

But there were others with shadier backgrounds, who were probably using this mockery of a sport for the purpose of smuggling drugs, laundering money or spying on the other side of the Iron Curtain. There was a driver, Lena Trosschi, who was a militant communist who allegedly had an affair with Monguzzi. Valentino Nicchi was a nutjob who claimed to be a priest and ran under the flag of the Vatican. One or two drivers were revealed to have been Stasi agents after German reunification. One of the drivers, an elderly goat farmer from France running under the pseudonym Ouragan, mysteriously disappeared and was allegedly found dead in Lake Pergusa.

Though I was no longer involved in the sport at the time, I was very shocked to learn about what had occurred. After all, the Dywa GP paddock was rather close-knit as we were helping each other out with spares all the time - or visiting each other in hospital when one of us had got hurt in one of those death traps, which happened all too often. I have always accepted the dangers of motorsport. The Mille Miglia was a dangerous event, and I loved it. Racing in circles on a closed circuit is not the same as chasing from Brescia to Rome and back. But in Dywa GP, the danger wasn't part of the nature of motorsports. It was sheer idiocy, recklessness, and irresponsibility on the side of the organizers. It offered nothing Formula Two did not offer, but at ten times the risk.

After the series had gotten off to a bad start, things progressively got worse as we ran lower and lower on spares, and as tracks were unwilling to host this farce of the series, Monguzzi and Renzo had to scrape the barrel for venues, which turned out to be as unsuitable for Formula 1 as everything else about this series. After escaping the 1978 season alive and, apart from minor bruising and some serious disillusionment, unhurt, I sold the Dywa cars at the first opportunity. At the time I didn't care where they'd end up. A Yugoslavian called Stefan Zoranovic bought them from the car dealership I'd flogged them off to, but he never saw his cars, as on the way they somehow ended up impounded by Albanian customs authorities. But that is another story. My involvement in Dywa GP ended in 1978. Though I was approached in 1979 to step back into the car to replace an injured driver, this was an opportunity I turned down without hesitation.

Apologies for the delay with the report, but the sheer volume of events in the past race have made putting this together rather daunting. :chilton:

PRE-QUALIFYING REPORT

Pre-qualifying saw a host of mechanical issues befall competitors, resulting in many drivers failing to set times. Only five teams saw both of their drivers record timed laps. However, this was overshadowed by the horrific crash suffered by Max Speed at the fast left-hander before Six Frères, tearing his car in two and knocking the American unconscious. With Speed having sustained a concussion just twelve days prior at Imola, a violent head injury was the last thing he needed. Because Shota Kakhaberidze was unable to get his car fired up in time to set a timed lap, Blockton Impact failed to pre-qualify.

QUALIFYING REPORT

Jacques Clouseau broke Leopoldo Faraldo's monopoly on pole positions with his own first career pole; meanwhile Faraldo had a disastrous quali, ending up all the way down in 21st place. For the second race in a row, both Automotive SuperSport drivers failed to qualify, while P26 was once again occupied by Barry McKockiner. The real surprise was Ouragan achieving a career-high P4 in qualifying, taking him all the way to the outside of the second row.

RACE REPORT
Off the start, Ouragan made an excellent getaway to briefly lead; however the first few laps of the race were marred by a series of very violent accidents. On the second lap, Giuseppe Gasperoni spun off coming out of Courbe de l'Étoile and hit the inside walls at a less than ideal angle. Paul Pott, having gone off as a result of a crash by Amada Castellón was T-boned by Leopoldo Faraldo; all three drivers would be subsequently taken to hosptial. True horror struck on the fourth lap, when Jehan Duchamps crashed heavily at the second turn in comparable fashion to Max Speed on Friday, only to be collected by Karl Gustav Schneider, who was unable to evade the stricken car. In many ways, the incident was a more severe version of what had happened to Lena Troscchi in almost identical circumstances at the very same corner the previous year.
The race would be dominated for the most part by Amalure Arrigorriagakoa, whose pace the rest of the field seemed to be unable to match but on the penultimate lap, her engine blew up in fiery fashion, gifting the win to Jacques Clouseau. Clouseau's victory was the first time since Tim Floc'h's memorable win at Enna the previous year that the polesitter won a race. In addition, attrition allowed Clouseau's teammate, Alphonse Fabron, to pick up a fourth place, and bring home his first career points and a large overall haul for the LATE team. Nino Pilia scored his first podium of the season, as did Johannes Gruber. Despite her engine failure, Arrigorriagakoa was classified fifth, while Aimé Voulescons was classified sixth for the second consecutive race. And while he was classified just outside the points, a race fastest lap allowed Nikolai Zorbin to score his first point of the season, a welcome boost to his team following their failure to pre-qualify at Imola.

Drive of the Race: The Trackside Medics — the fact that nobody was killed over the duration of this event is nothing short of miraculous.
Reject of the Race: Blockton Impact — very much a weekend to forget for all the wrong reasons.

INJURY REPORT
In total, six drivers were involved in accidents severe enough to warrant being taken to hospital for some level of treatment or another during the weekend.

Max Speed:
Image
Speed sustained a very violent crash in pre-qualifying; being less than two weeks removed from a concussion, this did not bode well.

1-50: Head injury — misses five races
51-100: Injury is worse... Second RNG

Image
99... The odds are not good...

1-33: Coma (will RNG after each race to determine if he wakes up from it)
34-66: Traumatic Brain Injury (career-ender)
67-100: Traumatic Brain Injury (death)

Image
12!
Speed is in a coma. First, the RNG to see if he wakes up between Rouen and Thruxton:

1-20 - Wakes up before the next round
21-90 - Stays asleep
91-100 - Pull the plug

Image
4 In a medical miracle, Speed spends only a handful of days in a coma. Of course, he will not be racing for the foreseeable future, and Blockton's decision to replace him with the American Diane Ettick (who is believed to have had a part in making this medical miracle happen) has been noted.

Giuseppe Gasperoni:
He crashed off rather heavily early on at a weird angle, so there is a chance of a leg injury.
1-40: unharmed
41-70: sprained ankle — misses one race
71-90: broken ankle — misses three races
91-100: broken leg — misses five races

Image
72! Gasperoni will miss the next three races. His replacement by Norwegian sportscar veteran Per Olsen has been noted.

Amada Castellón:
Castellón sustained a similar sort of crash to Gasperoni, and so the same permutations will be used.

1-40: unharmed
41-70: sprained ankle — misses one race
71-90: broken ankle — misses three races
91-100: broken leg — misses five races

Image
17! Castellón is thankfully unscathed.

Leopoldo Faraldo:
Faraldo T-boned Paul Pott (whom we will get to later), and as a result there is a risk of leg injury, with the same permutations as the previous two RNGs.

1-40: unharmed
41-70: sprained ankle — misses one race
71-90: broken ankle — misses three races
91-100: broken leg — misses five races

Image
10! Faraldo is also thankfully unscathed.

Paul Pott:
He was T-boned by Leopoldo Faraldo, which, considering the substandard build-quality of the Dywa-002, inevitably runs the risk of serious injury.

1-40 - Broken ribs and a concussion (3 races)
41-70 - Internal injuries (5 races)
71-90 - Broken pelvis and internal injuries (out for season)
91-100 - Basilar skull fracture (second RNG)

Image
22! Pott shall be missing the next three races. His replacement by the South West African Bern van der Westhouzen has been noted.

Jehan Duchamps:
Image
Duchamps had a horrific crash on the fourth lap, where he crashed off at high speed and then struck by Karl Gustav Schneider, suffering massive internal trauma. This RNG will really only decide just how bad this internal trauma was.

1-70 Out for season
71-100 Second RNG

Image
78! This does not bode well...

1-33: Misses rest of season and first half of next season (assuming they want to get back in a Dywa)
34-66: Career-ending injuries
67-100: Death

Image
8! Somehow, Duchamps has survived, though one would doubt if he would ever want to drive a Dywa again. His replacement by Sofia De Haro has been noted.

Police yesterday arrested the team principal and CEO of Scuderia Verona on suspicion of murder and fraud after a tip off from Dywa officials.
It has been confirmed that Francoise Arnaud had been racing in the Dwya series under the name Ourugan.

Police believe that Ouragan may have been murdered and was covered up by running an imposter in his place
Both men deny this allegation claiming that they had no idea that Ouragan had died and that the person driving the car in the last few races was an imposter.

The two deflected the allegation and made a claim that Ouragan team mate Leopoldo Faraldo was involved in the death claiming that he, Ouragan, a member of the dywa paddock were often involved in late night orgies and that something that night went wrong and the 3 covered it up

Faraldo himself denies these allegations stating that Ouragan was never involved in these and that his only involvement was providing the goat
The question remains. What Happened to Ouragan. Who was Ouragan 2.0 and how did they manage to hide It from Dywa?

It has transpired that the team hid the death of Mr. Arnaud overnight as a result of his crash with Amalure Arrigorriagakoa of Euskadi Lasterketa; instead, disposing of Mr. Arnaud's body in Lake Pergusa and bringing in an unknown driver to race under Ouragan's identity for the following two rounds. Ouragan Death Details Confirmed

it has been confirmed that Ouragan's death was the result of an injury caused at the Dywa GP rather then an intentional act. Ouragan was involved in a heavy crash and while medics at the track ruled it a concussions he was sent to a local hospital for further checks but discharged himself before these checks could be carried out.
Later that day Ouragan collapsed in his hotel room due to a bleed on the brain this tragically resulted in his death.
Arriving at his hotel the next morning Verona boss Marco Ricci discovered his body. Fearing that reporting his death would lead to a investigation.
An investigation which would have shown that Verona were conducting improper repairs while Ricci himself was replacing the more expensive parts of he car with cheap imitations.
Ouragan paid a substantial amount of money to race for the team but instead of using it for the team Ricci was using it fund a gambling habit and had substantial debts.
Fearing that reporting the death would uncover this he dumped the body in the lake and hired an imposter to pose as Ouragan. The imposter has yet to be identified.
Police have confirmed that their is no indication that any one else was involved and a investigation into the crash is underway with police seizing Verona cars
Police in France have charged Ricci with the murder of Ouragan's wife as he admitted that following Ouragan's death his wife wanted to report him missing as she had not heard from him. A brief argument between the two led to Ricci stabbing her before burning down the house.

Faraldo denies goat orgy

Leopaldo Faraldo has denied that he and Ouragan often part in orgies involving goats and that a recent article claiming was completely fictitious

" Yes i may be in a relationship with a male member of another team, you can not help who you fall in love with, but we did not have sexual adventures with Ouragan or his goats. My partner likes goats cheese that is it. Ouragan is not my type. Elderly goat farmer, he is a nice guy and all that i mean he smoked cigarettes made from dried goats faeces.

A new team from Yugoslavia has acquired the assets of former team Scuderia Verona, who were excluded from Dywa series due to Ouragangate. No details have been confirmed and its believed the team have yet to lodge an official entry but could appear as soon as the Mugello round.

After settling in Italy to conduct some legitimate business and developing a passion for motor racing, Italian-American Nunzio Dunn (DOB: March 3, 1953) is looking into pursuing opportunities as a replacement driver in Dywa GP.

Born from an Irish father and an Italian mother in Brooklyn, NYC, Dunn is a man of honor who would have great pleasure in bringing his commendable work ethics to any team which might be interested in his services.

He also has no ties to any sort of organized crime, pinky swear.

Rest in Peace Mike Zhen Hong. Your failure to navigate the penultimate corner at Enna that cost you 45 seconds each on the two consecutive laps you did it, will remain in my heart to my own dying days.

Press Conference from Spain wrote:de Haro to jump to Formula Two, replacement has been chosen.
In what some would say as no surprise, Spanish driver, Sofia de Haro has said in a conference that they would be focusing on her Formula Two campaign instead of competing with the response on the series being a "death trap" after seeing the injuries in the previous race which was held in Thruxton. For Reception Carrot, they already have a replacement with Spanish driver, Adán Gabaldon being picked for the team to compete in Mainz.

Post by Frogfoot9013 »

The first of the new venues of the 1979 Dywa calendar would be marred by tragedy.

QUALIFYING REPORT
Following Verona's exclusion, there was no need for pre-qualifying. Amalure Arrigorriagakoa snatched her first pole position of the season, but alongside here was George Lightley, using his familiarity with the Thruxton circuit to put his car on the front row, missing out on pole by just one thousandth of a second. Dickenson-Lightley teammate Javier Scarpetta was directly behind him on the grid in fourth place. Further down the grid, Barry McKockiner qualified in 25th instead of the P26 his team demanded, and found himself relieved of his drive after the race. Automotive SuperSport made the grid for the first time all season, as Ben Dover qualified 26th and last. Moe Lester once again missed out and Alphonse Fabron, fresh off a fourth place at Rouen, was brought back to reality with a DNQ.

RACE REPORT
The first few laps saw a battle between Peter Krieg, Amalure Arrigorriagakoa and George Lightley for the race lead, but this would be overshadowed by a horrific crash that occurred on lap 4. Stefano Spaghetti had spun amidst the jostling for position near the back of the grid, only for Mike Zhen Hong to clip his car. Zhen Hong was brought to a halt, while Spaghetti spun numerous times, the force of the impact and the subsequent spinning giving him a rather bad concussion. Zhen Hong was not so fortunate; Ben Dover was unable to avoid his stricken car, or even slow down for it, and he smashed through Zhen Hong's car at 134mph, tearing it apart. Dover sustained leg injuries while tragically, Mike Zhen Hong did not survive.
The race continued on, and Arrigorriagakoa began to open up a lead while Lightley fell by the wayside due to a gearbox failure. But a water leak would put an end to her chances of winning. The closing stages of the race saw a battle between Javier Scarpetta and Peter Krieg develop, with the former ultimately prevailing, and the latter's engine failing on the penultimate lap. Scarpetta's win was also the first for Dickenson-Lightley, and a much needed boost to the team after a rather underwhelming start to the season. Of note was also Txatxu Etxeberria, who drove a rather careful race to net himself an impressive second place. Jehan-Jacques Graves joined him on the podium. The final three points positions were taken by championship contenders: Jacques Clouseau (who also set the fastest lap of the race), Sentenza and Nino Pilia, and Clouseau has as a result more than a race-win's worth of points between him and second place. Pilia, on the other hand, will be rueing what he could have scored, as while he got a point for sixth, he threw a whole lap away with a very foolish spin and dismal rejoin attempt which forced him to make an extra pit stop for repairs.

Drive of the Race: Txatxu Etxeberria — a very careful drive was rewarded with a P2.
Reject of the Race: Nino Pilia — threw away a potential podium with a mind-numbingly stupid rejoin from a spin which not only cost him a lot of time, but also necessitated an extra pitstop.

INJURY REPORT

The Thruxton Trophy was marred by a horrific three car crash on the fourth lap, as described earlier, involving Stefano Spaghetti, Mike Zhen Hong, and Ben Dover. Spaghetti sustained a concussion, which will reduce his performance in the next round at Mainz-Finthen. Mike Zhen Hong did not survive his crash and his replacement by Nicholás Krutzhoff has been noted. Ben Dover sustained serious leg injuries, and his replacement by the enigmatic "Dave" has been noted.

Euskadi Lasterketa wishes to call into question the parity of the Renzo-supplied control parts in the Dywa GP series, particulatly in reference to the cars of #1 J. Clouseau and #2 A. Fabron (the latter of which we believe is deliberately sandbagging to attempt to disguise the clearly superior equipment of the former)

Yugoslav team enters Dywa

A new team have confirmed their entry into the Dwya series having acquired the assets and entry from Scuderia Verona who were excluded from the championship due to the covering up of Ouragan death
Team Kraguj owned by a Successful yugoslav businessman and based in Mostar, in the SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, willl enter from the Mugello round
Verona refugee Leopaldo Faraldo will lead the team while he will be joined by 22 year old Ensar Alic the reigning Yugoslav F3 champion

J-22 crashes killing test pilot

A prototype J-22 Orao has crashed after takeoff from Batajnica Air Base killing the pilot onboard. The J-22 made by SOKO id the 1st attempt at Yugoslavia making a indigenous fighter aircraft. The devlopment of which has been hampered by the refusal of the British government sell the desired engines. Forcing SOKO to uses a version of the Rolls Royce Viper engine which it already produces under license attempts to fit an afterburner to this elderly design has been proved difficult. Attempts to procure a more modern engine have been fruitless with a number of countries refusing to do so.
It is believed SOKO maybe trying to develop their own engine a task which experts believe is beyond the capabilities that Yugoslavia currently has

SPORT LIVES!

PRE-QUALIFYING REPORT
Newcomers Team Kraguj surprised everyone by topping the timesheets on their first outing, clearly helped by the returning Leopoldo Faraldo's qualifying prowess. Further down the field, DYWA-HARD suffered a shock failure to pre-qualify after mechanical woes prevented Johannes Gruber from setting a time.

QUALIFYING REPORT
Faraldo cemented his reputation as a one-lap specialist by taking his third pole position of the season, while teammate Alic qualified dead last on his debut. 'Dave' took Automotive SuperSport to the dizzying heights of the fourth row of the grid. Further down the field, a returning Lena Troscchi qualified 24th, and Alphonse Fabron failed to qualify for the third race in a row.

Image
Image

RACE REPORT
Faraldo was unable to hold onto the lead for long and rapidly slipped down the order, allowing Sentenza into the lead. This would later give way to an Euskadi Lasterketa 1-2, but a poor pit strategy for Txatxu Etxeberria (where he was only brought in with a few laps remaining) and a very careless spin by Amalure Arrigorriagakoa at Casanova dashed her hopes for success. Engine trouble would prevent her finishing, while Etxeberria was lucky to finish third thanks to attrition (as well as pick up fastest lap). A wise pit strategy seemed to make victory sure for Jacques Clouseau, until a late engine failure put him down to sixth in the classification, keeping his five-race points streak alive. The beneficiary of this chaos was the enigmatic Sentenza, who would take his second victory of the season and thus establish himself as the first serious threat to Jacques Clouseau's championship lead. Nino Pilia's second place established himself as a contender too. The remaining two finishers were the aforementioned Etxeberria and a much-needed fourth place for Nikolai Zorbin, whose team had had a rather troubled start to their season.

1979 Dywa GP — Syracuse Result Up!

Post by Frogfoot9013 »

Many surprises were had in Syracuse, though strangely the title fight has not really changed.

Pre-qualifying was a return to previously-established norms, and Automotive SuperSport unfortunately found themselves unable to get into qualifying proper.

  13. Great Leap Backward: 3:06.307
  14. Automotive SuperSport: 3:07.827

QUALIFYING REPORT
Qualifying saw a number of surprises. Firstly, Paul Pott, on his return after injuries suffered at Rouen, secured pole, a welcome boost for both him and the Vaillante team. Furthermore, there was a shock at the opposite end of the field as Jacques Clouseau struggled to get up to speed all session and ultimately found himself 28th and facing a DNQ, alongside teammate Alphonse Fabron, who racked up his fourth consecutive failure to qualify. Many an eyebrow was raised as to why the driver who had hitherto dominated the season would fail to qualify.

Image
Image

RACE REPORT
The race began with Giacomo Campatelli and Nunzio Dun leapfrogging Paul Pott off the start, the latter to soon assume the lead. This would prove to be short-lived when Dunn's engine caught fire on the eighth lap. Txatxu Etxeberria took the lead soon after, but would live up to his name by a very foolish spin at the final corner, throwing him all the way down to last, and then retiring a few laps later from a puncture (his teammate, Amalure Arrigorriagakoa, had retired just two laps in, making it another miserable weekend for the Basque team).
Against all expectations, Duncan Idaho was leading. A few laps later, a controversial incident would occur at the final turn, when Javier Scarpetta had a similar spin at the final corner, but when recovering, drove straight at his teammate, George Lightley, taking him out of the race. Scarpetta would retire a few laps later due to a water leak, and there were reportedly heated scenes in the Dickenson-Lightley garage upon his return.
Duncan Idaho would lead until lap 22, when an engine failure handed the lead to Sentenza. The enigmatic Italian stood to capitalise hugely on Clouseau's DNQ with a second consecutive victory, but just two laps later, his engine too let go. This left the polesitter Paul Pott to score a remarkable comeback win. There were dramatic scenes on the final lap, when Giacomo Campatelli broke down on the final lap, as did Giuseppe Gasperoni and Johannes Gruber, enabling Karl Gustav Schneider to score his first career points.

FINAL CLASSIFICATION

Drive of the Race: Paul Pott — one could hardly ask for a better comeback from injury than a win from pole
Reject of the Race: Euskadi Lasterketa — you put the opportunity for a good result in front of them, and they throw it away; at this point, one begins to presume that they will waste opportunities in races.

Image
This is not how you win races.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Javier Scarpetta has been benched by Dickenson-Lightley for taking his teammate George Lightley out of the race. The team must nominate a replacement for the next race.

Image
Taking your teammate out is not the best of looks for a driver

Duncan Idaho did not return to the Dywa GP paddock after retiring from the race while leading. It can be assumed that he is not returning to Order of Racing. In addition, he will not be available for other teams to sign. Order of Racing will have to nominate a replacement for the remainder of the season.

Indeed the scene was heated in the Dickenson-Lightley garage after the race. The co-owners were in a dreadful conundrum, with their best driver apparently losing his mind and attempting to murder his teammate and son of one of the co-owners. There was no choice except to bench the star British driver Scarpetta for the next round at least.

After being given this news in person, Scarpetta proceeded to call his team boss an idiot within easy earshot, and was promptly fired from Dickenson-Lightley.

Following this, the team owners were delighted that Lightley was not badly hurt in the crash, seeing as the right-front wheel almost crushed his head into pulp.

With such big changes occurring at short notice, D-L have called up the Earl of Sandwich as a last-minute replacement (if it doesn't clash with the International Formula 2 schedule), at least for the coming race while we work out what we're going to do in the second half of the season.

Motorsport driver Billy Baker joins Jersey’s illustrious list of sportsmen and women by making his debut in the Dywa Grand Prix series this coming weekend. The Jersey Times sat down with Baker and pitched a few questions to our latest sporting hero.

JT: So Billy, for those who don’t know, what is Dywa Grand Prix

BB: It’s a global racing series where we all drive the same car, called a Dywa. The fun part is, because we all have the same machinery, the playing field is more level than, say, Formula 1.

JT: Those of us here who do follow Formula 1, like yours truly, may well be asking - why Dywa?

BB: I have the talent to make it anywhere I want. But the thing about Dywa GP is, many of the drivers are beautiful women. And that’s what I’m there for. You don’t get that in Formula 1 - no one looks at Alan Jones and thinks *phwoar*. He’s a talented chap, don’t get me wrong, but that’s not what does it for me.

JT: So what about all the grid girls and so on in Formula 1?

BB:…I’d forgotten about those.

Castle Dickenson and Firstname Lightley sit down together, running their fingers down the current Dywa standings. After phoning up Michel Vaillant's manager, they get nowhere and can't convince him out of his F3 commitments. The next available name is Bern van der Westhousen. After heated discussion and various attempts to convince him to use the Union Jack, neither side gets anywhere. But they need a driver, and van der Westhousen is at least proven. D-L sign him up until the end of the year. They won't risk the Earl getting injured :chilton:

Translated news that was unsurprisingly leaked to the Italian press - 9 July 1979 wrote:Tragedy and Scandal in Dywa!

George Lightley suffers fatal accident at Grobnik - but how did he die?

George Lightley, veteran Dywa GP racer since the series began in 1978, has sadly passed away following a fatal crash at Sunday's race in Grobnik. Events quickly unfolded which showed that Lightley was already dead upon being examined by the track doctor in his car. As Dywa officials follow state-of-the-art procedures, this meant that in the 15 minutes between the crash and Lightley being examined, the British driver had died or, in the doctor's eyes, had already been dead.

After being rushed to the nearby hospital six hours later, it was discovered that the late Mr Lightley had "enough cocaine in him to knock out a small, maybe even a large horse", according to one medical professional.

So who killed George Lightley? Did he simply overdose on some illegal substances while in the driving seat? Were there other factors? An official comment from Dickenson-Lightley is expected on Monday.

Italian press, 10 July 1979 wrote:D-L come clean - George was not!

Team bosses deem Dywa officials and former teammate Javier Scarpetta responsible for Lightley's "murder"

Indeed a can of worms was quickly opened on Monday evening when the D-L team bosses, Firstname Lightley (the late George's father) and Castle Dickenson, made their prepared statement to the Dywa officials.

"We believe that George's death, which was officially deemed to be the result of a drug overdose while driving, was in fact directly a result of the dreadful safety standards of this series, as well as the organisers' inability to sufficiently punish drivers who cause such serious accidents.

"George's health deteriorated rapidly following being shunted by his former teammate Javier Scarpetta at Syracuse. The impact was head-on and it took him a long time to get out of the car. With no medical care provided by on-site staff, our driver was forced to self-administer painkillers in the form of pure cocaine. His death, therefore, was a direct result of Scarpetta's dangerous and remorseless actions on the track.

We demand that Scarpetta be banned from the Dywa series by the series organisers. Until this request is met, Dickenson-Lightley will pull out of all following rounds of the 1979 season (leaving the series in even more danger with Ben Dover automatically qualifying). If the Dywa response is negative, we will go to the FIA or whatever body is superior to Dywa. We will go to the Italian government if we have to. We will have justice for George."

The Dywa officials have not yet made an official response to this message, but we will print the moment we have more news.

AutoReject Magazine wrote: Order of Racing official decries "sinful" Lightley

"George Lightley's death at the recent Grobnik race is a tragic incident for the sport", said an Order of Racing team official today, "but on a personal level it is anything but tragic."

"The team has already admitted that Mr Lightley got into that race car while under the influence of 'pure cocaine', which only served to put him and his fellow drivers at significant risk. Although his team tried to paint this is something new, we know it is anything but. Our driver Javier Scarpetta tried to drive for the Dickenson-Lightley team, but was consistently hamstrung by the team's sinful demands."

Javier Scarpetta is currently driving for his fourth Dywa Grand Prix team, having raced for Scuderia del Savio and Euskadi Lasterketa in 1978, then for Dickenson-Lightley and for Order of Racing in 1979. His time with Dickenson-Lightley came to an end after colliding with his teammate at Syracuse.

"Though we must not judge others or speak ill of the dead," said the Order of Racing staffer, "We believe God's judgement is clear in this instance. We pray He has mercy on Lightley's soul."

The Dickenson-Lightley Team is hereby excluded from Dywa GP, with immediate effect, for bringing the sport into disrepute with their antics.

AutoReject Magazine wrote: Baker Blames Crowd for DNQ
Dywa Grand Prix's newest alum, self-proclaimed Jersey Boy Billy Baker, has come clean about his failure to qualify at Grobnik.

"My eye was caught by someone in the crowd at Turn 3" said Baker on his way out of the circuit.
"I tried adjusting my line to get a closer look, but this ended up compromising my lap." Baker qualified 27th of the 28 cars in qualifying, failing to make the grid.

"It's a shame to not make my first start, but all clouds have a silver lining... so if you do see a short, mousey-haired, ahem well-endowed lady at Turn 3 - tell her Billy's waiting in the car park in his Cortina."

Dywa GP's foray into East Germany saw many surprises, from a narrowing of the championship battle to a single point, to the first post-race disqualification in series history.

RACE REPORT

FINAL CLASSIFICATION

FASTEST LAPS

Drive of the Race: Billy Baker — From a DNQ in one race to two points with a last-corner pass in the next is an impressive feat.
Reject of the Race: Giuseppe Gasperoni — His attempt to pose as the injured Nino Pilia and score his teammate some much-needed championship points in his stead worked well, even getting him a fourth place — until the stewards copped onto his ruse.

INJURY REPORT
First up, Ensar Alic.
A typical Dywa crash with the car coming apart, but since I couldn't get a replay, the odds will be somewhat generous.
1-50: unharmed
51-100: broken vertebra — misses two races

48! Alic is shaken, but fine.

Next up, Nikolai Zorbin.
A similar crash to Alic, but the crash occurred in traffic and the car was collected. (edited)
1-30: unharmed
31-60: misses three races
61-90: misses rest of season
91-100: second RNG

39! Zorbin is out for three races. Getz's decision to replace him with the Polish driver Dominik Nowak has been noted.

ADDITIONAL NOTE
Giuseppe Gasperoni has entered under the name of his injured teammate, Nino Pilia, in the hope that he can score his teammate much-needed championship points. The stewards may or may not notice this.

1-25: the stewards don't notice
26-50: the stewards do notice that Giuseppe Gasperoni is driving under Pilia's name, and accordingly attribute the fourth place to him
51-75: the stewards notice and disqualify 'Pilia' from the race.
76-100: the stewards disqualify Bambini di San Marino from the race

67! Gasperoni is disqualified from the race.

It's been a while since any Dywa GP was run, but the Soviet Union round has finally been run, and there were some major championship implications!

QUALIFYING REPORT
Image
Image
Sentenza's pole position allowed him to draw level on points with Jacques Clouseau, and in fact, take the championship lead on countback.

RACE REPORT
Sentenza led away from pole and dominated much of the race, momentarily having the entre field lapped, but an engine failure doomed his chances of winning and Adan Gabaldon inherited the lead to take his maiden Dywa GP victory. Amalure Arrigorriagakoa, recording a second consecutive second place, and Paul Pott rounded out the rostrum, positioning themselves as outside championship contenders. Alphonse Fabron and Billy Baker (finishing fifth for the second race in a row) were the two remaining cars on track, and Barry McKockiner, a last minute substitute after Nina Noyer was unable to get a visa in time, took his first-ever Dywa GP point, despite not being meant to race in the first place. The race was marred by three horrific crashes, one including championship contender Jacques Clouseau, and the other two involving Javier Scarpetta and Diane Ettick.

Drive of the Day: Barry McKockiner - scored his first career point in a race he was not supposed to be entered in.
Reject of the Race: Blockton Impact - the American team certainly made an impact in the Soviet Union, whereby I mean 'both cars broke in half during the race'.

INJURY REPORT
There were three very serious crashes very early in the race.

Jacques Clouseau's car disintegrated in a first-lap crash at speed and was subsequently T-boned.
Image
1-33 Out for remainder of season
34-66 Out for remainder of season and first half of 1980
67-99 Injury is more severe - Second RNG
100 DED

4! This ends Clouseau's season. Nuppiz, you must nominate a replacement driver for Keimola onwards.

Javier Scarpetta suffered severe accident early in the race, where his car, coming to a halt from a mechanical failure, was struck and torn apart.
Image
1-25 Minor injury, misses two races
26-75 Season-ending injury
77-100 More serious - Second RNG

79! This does not bode well.

1-33 Out for rest of 1979 and first half of 1980
34-67 Career-ending injury
68-99 Death
100 He was actually fine all along

21! Not good, but could've been worse. Scarpetta's replacement by Kruger Dunning has been noted.

Lastly, Diane Ettick suffered an absolutely horrifying accident where her car disintegrated at high speed and she was pitched into the wall.

Miraculously, she emerged from the crash unscathed. She credits Xenu for having protected her from harm, and encourages others to convert to Scientology to be protected too.
