Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - USA 2022

Post by Londoner »

1. Fernando Alonso and his Alpine. How in the blue hell did that car score points after nearly entering low earth orbit? Alonso has balls of steel.

2. Sebastian Vettel. He's not going gentle into that good night, not a bit of it.

Honourable mentions to Kevin Magnussen and Yuki Tsunoda for breaking their points droughts.

Has to be Seb. He'd have easily been 6th if it hadn't been for a duff pitstop from AM and where a lot of other drivers would've mentally packed up after that, Seb used his fresh tires to claw back 8th, with a near last corner pass on Magnussen.

HM for K-Mag Sort of made the 1 stop work.

1. Alonso and his car - for surviving that impact following collision with Stroll
2. Vettel - leading a lap and otherwise great race too. Shame for the pit stop.

1- Alonso- For not only getting his car to the chequered flag after what happened with Stroll (his car was on two wheels in the air) but to get good points as well.

2 Vettel- led the race, looked good for 6th then the team stuffed him over and yet he came back (okay helped by others' tyres giving up on them) and got points for Aston Martin
Benetton of 1992. Never a reject

Alonso and his car: Incredible. I didn't expect him to be able to continue (or especially finish the race) after that hit, but he did and ended up climbing to the points with several overtakes. The old champions really showed their skills today, and Alonso was probably the most impressive given the circumstances.

1: Alonso. I’m amazed he survived serious injury from that crash let alone carried on and finished 7th so Alpine only lost 2 points to McLaren

2: Magnussen: Made a 1 stop strategy work and netted some points for Haas on their home track

HM: Vettel: would have taken 6th at a canter until Aston Martin screwed his stop. He was actually hanging on to Leclerc, Perez and Russell too. Maybe the chance of Aston Martin getting 6th overall has lit a fire in him.

HM: Tsunoda: A first points finish since Spain. May have got more had AlphaTauri imposed team orders

Alonso for finishing the race, somehow in 7th place.

Vettel for a points finish in spite of his team's best efforts, and getting his 3500th leading lap.

Alonso and Vettel for showing why they're former champions. Alonso that was on par with Baku 2018 for getting 7th after having his car completely wrecked there too!

Fernando Alonso - for finishing 7th in a car that hit multiple solid objects during the race.

1. Alonso: I have never seen an f1 car survive a crash like that to finish 7th. That was a recovery of the ages.

2. Seb: Kept his head down in spite of his pit stop setback for a great finish. I didn't think there was this much racing spirit still left in him.

HM: Max Verstappen: Although we expect him to walk away with a win, what we did not expect is his on track recovery in the closing laps today. I don't think Hamilton expected it either. Like a diamond needs a diamond to cut it, Max managed to outdrive himself to secure victory from the jaws of defeat.

Alonso & Seb deserve this jointly after their recovery drives.

KMag for somehow surviving on one stop.

Seb, with an amazing performance that can convince a new fan that he was a 4-time champion,
Alonso with that epic recovery drive.
