1923 - 100th Anniversary Championship - Race at Fonteny Results

Post by Zenarcher »

Welcome To The Roaring Twenties

Image

The year 1923, a time between the two World Wars, it was also a time which saw rapid developments for the automobile and Grand Prix racing, which was a thrilling new phenomenon at the time. I'll be hosting this championship to mark the 100th Anniversary. The races will be simulated in Assetto Corsa using cars from that year, and the race calendar will feature numerous authentic vintage race tracks.

How To Enter

You can sign up a maximum of three drivers; one will be your main driver, the second will compete at tracks where there is room available, and the third will serve as a backup in the event that any of your two main drivers suffer an injury or is killed.

A few things to note before entering,

Name, they can be a real driver past or present but fictional drivers are also allowed.
Age 18 to 60.
Weight 60kg to 90kg.
Driving styles, aggressive, balanced or cautious.
Experience, rookie, competent, expert.
Team, any can be picked.
Car colours, chose one, each team has a few, you can change it later if needed.
Backstory, isn't required but it would be preferred.

Use this template below for each driver. (Scroll down further to see the teams and colour choices available)

Name:
Nationality:
Age:
Weight:
Driving Style:
Experience:
Team:
Car Colour:
Backstory:

The Teams

Voisin

Image

Car: Voisin C6 Laboratoire
Country: France
BHP: 78
Torque: 192 Nm
Weight: 660kg
Max Speed: 172km/h (107mph)
Colours: 1 = Silver

It has the strangest appearance of the group, it was a prototype that represented Gabriel Voisin's technical and aerodynamics abilities. The cars unique design and manufacturing methods represented advancements in sports car design. Although it is the lightest, it doesn't have as much horsepower as the others.

Rolland-Pilain

Image

Car: Rolland-Pilain A22
Country: France
BHP: 97
Torque: 152 Nm
Weight: 832kg
Max Speed: 175km/h (109mph)
Colours: 6 = Light Blue, White & Black, Green, White, Red, Dark Blue

Francois Roland, a French businessman, and Émile Pilain, a family-trained auto mechanic, established Rolland-Pilain. The creation of the first hydraulic brakes is the company's biggest claim to fame as a manufacturer. It is by far the heaviest car in the group and has the second lowest power.

Bugatti

Image

Car: Bugatti Type 32
Country: France
BHP: 100
Torque: 192 Nm
Weight: 761kg
Max Speed: 189km/h (117mph)
Colours: 5 = Blue, Green, Yellow, Red, White

The bodywork of this sleek, bullet-shaped car actually caused lift, so it wasn't quite as great as it appeared to be. Despite being one of the heaviest cars, it has reasonable power.

Sunbeam

Image

Car: Sunbeam Grand Prix
Country: Great Britain
BHP: 108
Torque: 174 Nm
Weight: 674kg
Max Speed: 195km/h (121mph)
Colours: 7 = Yellow, Light Blue, Green, Orange, White, Red, Dark Blue

It has lots of power, but the weight is where it truly matters with it being the second lightest. Although it has far greater power than the Voisin C6, it is only 14 kg heavier.

Delage

Image

Car: Delage 2LCV
Country: France
BHP: 110
Torque: 171 Nm
Weight: 704kg
Max Speed: 200km/h (124mph)
Colours: 6 = Light Blue, Green, Dark Purple, White, Red, Dark Blue

Compared to the Sunbeam and Fiat, it is a bit heavier, but it has a V12 engine with plenty of power available.

Fiat

Image

Car: Fiat 805 405
Country: Italy
BHP: 130-135
Torque: 176 Nm
Weight: 680kg
Max Speed: 220km/h (137mph)
Colours: 5 = Red, Light Blue, Green, Silver, Dark Blue

The Fiat, the first supercharged Grand Prix car, weighs about the same as a Sunbeam but has significantly more power.

How realistic is it?

We have 22 tracks to race on, some of which are very dangerous and where drivers could suffer serious injuries or even lose their lives. The cars all drive and behave differently, and the tracks are all historical; I know that most were constructed after 1923 but I was limited on the choice of vintage tracks available for the game. If it's cold and snowing in real life, it will also be that way in the game. Track conditions may also vary throughout a race if the real life weather does. Tyre wear, fuel consumption, wind speed, track and air temp are also simulated. During the race, the cars can pit for repairs if they are damaged.

What happens if a driver is injured or killed?

Minor injuries will allow them to race at the following event, but significant ones will keep them from competing for three weeks to three months. You get to decide which back-up driver will take over if a driver is killed or injured. When a driver sustains a minor injury, their performance at the following race will be slightly impacted. However, when a driver returns from a more serious injury, their performance will be reduced for the remainder of the season, though it will gradually improve.

This will be my first race series thing that I enter! Here’s my set of drivers, they’re all real people. Hope these guys do well, but that’s not exactly necessary. I’m just hoping it’ll be a good bit of fun for 100 years since motor racing started to become popular!

Driver 1
Name: Robert Benoist
Nationality: French
Age: 28
Weight: 78kg (I just made that number up)
Driving Style: Balanced
Experience: Expert
Team: Delage
Car Colour: Dark Blue
Backstory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Benoist

Driver 2
Name: Pietro Bordini
Nationality: Italian
Age: 35
Weight: 71kg (I made that number up)
Driving Style: Aggressive
Experience: Expert
Team: FIAT
Car Colour: Red
Backstory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pietro_Bordino

Driver in case somebody dies (and if possible, we’ll let him race his home Spanish GP instead of whoever’s doing worse)
Name: Pierre de Vizcaya
Nationality: Spanish
Age: 26
Weight: 64kg
Driving Style: Cautious
Experience: Rookie
Team: Bugatti
Car Colour: Yellow
Backstory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_de_Vizcaya

Looking forward to inevitably failing!

Driver 1
Name: Walter Anzungolst
Nationality: 🇦🇹 Austria
Age: 28
Weight: 65kg
Driving Style: Aggressive, specializes in overtaking
Experience: Not that much
Team: Fiat
Car Colour: Light blue
Backstory: Farmer with a growing interest in motor racing, entered a race or two in Germany last year. An ancestor of future racer turned ARWS team owner Bert Anzungolst.
Walter will participate in all races in Germany whenever possible, and Bremgarten too. He plans on doing the full season, but those are his priority races.

Driver 2
Name: Paul Goodridge
Nationality: 🇺🇸 USA
Age: 45
Weight: 76kg
Driving Style: Chaotic, 1923's Yuji Ide
Experience: 5 years
Team: Bugatti
Car Colour: Green
Backstory: A former lawyer with a sketchy reputation (some say this might have something to do with how he acquired his green Bugatti) decided to become a racing driver because he could. He's done a few Indy 500s already, and has become a notoriously dirty driver.
Paul will participate in the Indy 500 only, even if that means putting Anzungolst on the sidelines.

Sanjay Atimanusa
British India
32
76kg
Aggressive
rookie
Sunbeam
Red
He might be unassuming, but Atimanusa is a trailblazing hero for his country. His talent was spotted by the Motor Union of Western India, when he won a road race in his native district of Dehra Dun. However, he has a lot to learn as he heads to Europe for the first time.

Bakhadur Aghayev
Soviet Union/Azerbaijan
42
73kg
cautious
competent
Rolland-Pilain
Blue
An officer of the Russian Imperial Guard, Aghayev went into exile after the Russian Revolution and is now a rising racing star in Europe (based entirely off Boris Ivanowski)
Robert (Ted) Burns-Farrell
England
34
balanced
expert
Sunbeam
Black (the Cornish flag from where he hails is black)

The archetypal English aristocrat, Robert Burns-Farrell has been motor racing since he could speak and has established himself as a consummate professional both in and out of the car.

Driver 1
Name: Sir Percy Holmes
Nationality: British
Age: 30
Weight: 75kg
Driving Style: Balanced
Experience: Competent
Team: Sunbeam
Car Colour: Green
Backstory: Sir Percy Holmes was born in 1893, and he's grown up to be an excellent horse rider and a good race car driver. He owns several racing stables and is interested in breeding horses, so he has quite a few nice horses running around on his land. He also likes being near water; he keeps a yacht moored at a marina nearby, and he takes his family sailing whenever they can.

Being friends with Royal Family has its advantages; of course, occasionally, when he's competing in races, he'll receive invitations from King George V or Queen Mary to appear at events at Buckingham Palace. If you're ever invited by Sir Percy to attend one of these events, you should go! You never know who else might show up—King George might even be there himself.

At the age of 15, Sir Percy attended a motor racing demonstration at Brooklands in 1908, which sparked his passion for the sport. After the first World War and being hailed as a war hero, Sir Percy moved his focus away from horseback riding and into Grand Prix racing. Over the past four years, he has competed in many races and had success.

Driver 2
Name: Hellé Nice
Nationality: French
Age: 22
Weight: 60kg
Driving Style: Cautious
Experience: Rookie
Team: Bugatti
Car Colour: White
Backstory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell%C3%A9_Nice

Model and dancer Mariette Hélène Delangle achieved great success performing under the name Hélène Nice, which she later changed to Hellé Nice. She was able to acquire a home and her own yacht thanks to her considerable earnings. Although she avoided an avalanche and survived, she suffered a serious knee injury in the incident.

Later, race car driver de Courcelles introduced motor racing to Nice. The Paris region was one of the main hubs of the French automobile industry at the time, and there were lots of competitions for auto enthusiasts. Nice jumped at the chance to join in the racing event at the annual fair that was arranged by fellow performers from the Paris entertainment industry because she loved the thrill of driving fast cars.

Driver 3 back up
Name: Barney Jones
Nationality: Monégasque
Age: 55
Weight: 90kg
Driving Style: Aggressive
Experience: Rookie
Team: Voisin
Car Colour: Silver
Backstory: Originally from Britain, Barney's parents emigrated to Monaco, where Barney was born and raised. Throughout the First World War, he worked on aeroplanes as an engineer. Now that he is getting close to 60, he has experienced a little bit of a midlife crisis and has started competing in Grand Prix races. Barney won't be at every event, but he'll make sure to race at home in Monaco.

Car 3
Image Sir Finlay Underwood

Age: 51
Weight: 92 kg

Quick Update

With a week to go until the opening race of the 1923 season, I thought it would be good to quickly review who has signed up so far and provide some other details that weren't covered in the original post.

The First Race

The practice session will take place on Thursday the 12th and the results will be posted here. Qualifying and the race will take place on the following day. I will try and upload highlights to YouTube, the results of the race will probably be posted up on the Saturday or Sunday.

The Teams, Car Colours & Drivers So Far
There is still space for a few more people to join in.

Voisin

Image

Drivers:
Joan Newton Cuneo - Silver
Barney Jones - Silver

Both of the Voisin drivers are currently backups, meaning they will only participate in a select few events throughout the season when there is space available, or if their manager wishes to swap them over with another driver they have. Nobody has chosen to compete for Voisin full-time as of yet.

Rolland-Pilain

Image

Drivers:
Bakhadur Aghayev - Blue

Aghayev will take a full-time seat with the team.

Bugatti

Image

Full Time Drivers:

Paul Goodridge - Green

The part-time racers, de Vizcaya, will compete at his home race. Goodridge only intends to compete in the Indy 500.

The team manager, Sir Finlay Underwood, will compete in several races himself. Two more drivers will race for the team, but only at specific events. They are Prinz Johann Wilhelm Freidrich Oscar and Duque Gonzalo Gonzalez.

Practice Session at Targa Florio for the Sicilian Grand Prix

Weather Report

Partly cloudy, sunny intervals, light rain showers
Temperature 17°C (63°F)
Road surface temperature 22°C (72°F)
Wind 22 km/h (14 mph) NorthWest

Practice Already Has Placed Some Drivers Out of Action

The weather wasn't great when the drivers arrived today to practice for the Sicilian Grand Prix hosted here in Targa Florio; the light rain showers increased the risk already present on the roads.

Practice Report

A few lessons were learned from today's practice session, including the fact that overtaking on these winding, narrow roads is extremely risky and dangerous. Due to the poor amount of grip that was available to the drivers, the weather conditions made things even more challenging.

Furthermore, it appears that everyone attempting to overtake Hellé Nice gets some sort of bad luck curse placed on them, which causes drivers to slam into a wall. The good news is that it's forecast to be dry and sunny for qualifying and the actual race.

Lap Times

Only 7 of the 17 drivers managed to complete a timed lap.

1. Robert Benoist - Delage - 49:23:172
2. Sir Percy Holmes - Sunbeam - 50:24:885
3. Sanjay Atimanusa - Sunbeam - 50:39:924
4. Arthur Legat - Bugatti - 50:48:739
5. Walter Anzungolst - Fiat - 51:25:697
6. Bakhadur Aghayev - Rolland-Pilain - 51:52:234
7. Hellé Nice - Bugatti - 51:52:491

Injury Reports

Even though this was just a practice session, many incidents occurred, some minor and some more serious.

1. Archie Bohanno was forced to abandon the session due to minor injuries (some bruising). He has been declared fit by the doctors to compete on Friday in the race. He will, however, have a minor performance loss just for this race, and he should be fully recovered by the next one.

2. At 92 km/h, Antonio Ascari struck a railing head-on (57 mph). He fractured some of his ribs and his hands and sustained a concussion. He will need three weeks off to heal. The race tomorrow and the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks' time are off-limits to him. For the Sachsen Grand Prix, the third race of the year, Antonio Ascari should be back and ready to race again.

3. Donald Wings crashed into a wall at a speed of 71 km/h (44 mph). His injuries are significant enough to prevent him from participating in this race, but his doctor anticipates that he will be ready for the next one in Spain.

4. Pietro Bordini crashed into Donald Wings, but only at a low speed. His doctor has given him the all-clear to race.

5. When Gwenda Hawkes ran off the road and struck a barrier, she sustained some minor injuries (bruising), but the crash occurred at a low speed. She will be allowed to compete in this race, although she will have a small performance loss for it. She should be fully recovered in time for the next race.

6. Georges Mignolet broke his left knee and hip after crashing into the wall at a speed of 119 km/h (74 mph); he also crashed into Kay Petre shortly after at a speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). He will require three months to heal, and he won't be eligible to race again until the Merseyside Grand Prix in April. Michel Coopmans will replace him.

7. After being struck by Georges Mignolet, Kay Petre spun out and hit the wall at a speed of 90 km/h (56 mph), but she somehow managed to escape with only minor injuries. That is until Henry Segrave came along and smashed into the side of Kay Petre's car at a speed of 48 km/h (30 mph), inflicting multiple injuries on her, including a broken hand and ribs. She'll be unable to compete in this race and the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks but should return for the following one in early February. Joan Newton Cuneo will replace her.

8. The accident for Henry Segrave, who struck Kay Petre, wasn't too serious at all; he suffered some bruising and was startled, but the doctor has given him the all-clear to race. He will only see a slight performance drop for this particular race.

9. Tobias Lammonby crashed into a guardrail but it was at low speed and he was braking hard before it. He got away with some bruising and will only see a slight performance loss for this race.

10. Sir Alfred Moss collided with a wall at a speed of 66 km/h (41 mph). His injuries were extensive enough for his doctor to advise him to withdraw from this race, but he should recover in time for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix later this month.

Re: 1923 - 100th Anniversary Championship - Practice at Targa Florio Results

Post by Zenarcher »

First of all, sorry for not posting the race results sooner. The race did take place as scheduled, but real life stuff got in the way, and for some reason, my computer had problems rendering the video. The practice for the Spanish Grand Prix is today, and the race is tomorrow. I'll try to post the results over the weekend or early next week.

The Sicilian Grand Prix

Weather Report

Cloudy, dry
Temperature 16°C (61°F)
Road surface temperature 22°C (72°F)
Wind 8 km/h (5mph) North

Qualifying Report

Sanjay Atimanusa and Pietro Bordini both clipped the barrier but were able to complete the session despite their close calls. Considering the mayhem of yesterday's practise session, there were no severe accidents during qualifying. The only notable incident had Sir Percy Holmes hitting the wall with his car, but it wasn't serious enough to make him stop and he continued.

Race Report - Sunbeam Shine In Targa Florio

Sanjay Atimanusa started on pole position and led the pack into turn one, everyone got stuck in and already there were a few overtakes but it would only be a minute into the race before the first bit of drama took place. Walter Anzungolst clipped the side of a spectators car and spun out which blocked the road. Contact was made with Michel Coopmans sending him off the road and out of the race. Henry Segrave damaged his car in the pile up as well and he was next to retire.

The pile up was cleared but the retirements kept coming in, Hellé Nice and Robert Benoist both had mechnical issues which was likely caused by the bumps and bashes they had while waiting for the pile up to be cleared away.

Eventually the race settled down and 10 minutes in Sir Percy Holmes now led the race but there was just half a second between him and Pietro Bordini in second, Sanjay Atimanusa who started on pole was now third. Then Arthur Legat spun off the road after taking a corner too quickly, he's lucky he didn't hit anything and tried to continue the race but his car was stuck on rough off road terrain, which meant he was out of the race.

Half an hour into the race Sir Percy Holmes was still leading, Sanjay Atimanusa moved up to 2nd and Pietro Bordini had dropped to 3rd. At this stage of the race only 8 drivers remained. As time went on and we neared the end of the race Sir Percy Holmes remained in the lead with a 4.7 second gap ahead of Sanjay Atimanusa but Gwenda Hawkes found herself in third place, this is because Pietro Bordini had a very bad accident. There was also another bad crash with Tobias Lammonby earlier on as well it was a serious one.

With 5 minutes to go until the cars are expected to finish word came in that someone has broken down its Walter Anzungolst, he was racing at top speed at the time and his engine gave out, so close he was about to overtake and claim 4th place as well, what a shame.

Sir Percy Holmes went onto win the race, Sanjay Atimanusa finished 5 seconds later in 2nd and Gwenda Hawkes 11 seconds later in 3rd.

Injury Report

1. Michel Coopmans was hit by Walter Anzungolst when he made contact with a spectators car. Michel Coopmans lost control of his car and drove off the road, fortunately not resulting in a high-speed accident. He was unharmed but had to abandon the race because of damage to his car.

2. Henry Segrave was involved in the pile-up shortly after the race began; he was in a low-speed crash that wrecked his car and forced him out of the competition. Henry Segrave was uninjured by the incident, which is good news.

3. Tobias Lammonby narrowly missed a spectators car at one of the tight corners before crashing head-on into a brick building at 93 km/h (58mph). He sustained a number of injuries, including a concussion, fractured wrist, broken ribs, broken hand, and spinal fracture. He will be out of action for at least six weeks, but doctors anticipate his comeback in early March, just in time for the Fonteny Grand Est Grand Prix.

4. Pietro Bordini injured his hand after hitting a guardrail at 94 km/h (59 mph), but he's expected to be back for the third Grand Prix of the year. He'll need 3 weeks off to recover. He will be temporarily replaced by Pierre de Vizcaya.

Bugatti Show Strong Pace During Practice

After the race at Targa Florio just two weeks ago, it was still the main topic of discussion because the endurance race had rendered some drivers injured and out of action after a number of accidents. However, there was a strong turnout today, with 16 drivers attending practice.

It's safe to say that Sitges-Terramar is one of the most deadly races on the calendar. Despite such being the case, there were no severe accidents or injuries in the practice. The only noteworthy incident came when Pierre de Vizcaya, a local favourite, nearly caused Robert Benoist to crash out of the session. Robert Benoist put on an outstanding demonstration of skill as he quickly brought his car under control and avoided a serious accident.

Practice Results

1. Arthur Legat - Bugatti - 0:41:496
2. Pierre de Vizcaya - Bugatti - 0:42:642
3. Hellé Nice - Bugatti - 0:42:811
4. Henry Segrave - Sunbeam - 0:43:033
5. Archie Bohannon - HMRT - 0:43:040
6. Sir Percy Holmes - Sunbeam - 0:43:444
7. Sir Alfred Moss - Sunbeam - 0:43:781
8. Duque Gonzalo Gonzalez - HMRT - 0:43:871
9. Robert Benoist - Delage - 0:43:884

15. Joan Newton Cuneo - Voisin - 0:44:975
16. Bakhadur Aghayev - Rolland-Pilain - 0:46:738

The Bugatti team may have an edge in this case since all three of the cars are at the top of the time sheets. The car also appears to be well suited for this particular track.

Race Report - Tragic Deaths At The Spanish Grand Prix

Although Hellé Nice started the race in pole position, she had a poor start, and all of the Bugattis were slow off the line. Robert Benoist quickly overtook the Bugatti's to take the lead. There was little contact here and there throughout the opening few laps however nothing catastrophic happened.

By lap 5, it was obvious that the Bugatti's were very fast, and Arthur Legat overtook Robert Benoist to take over the lead in the race. Hellé Nice, who started in first place, was now only two seconds behind Robert Benoist as she began to close the gap between them.

Near the halfway point, Arthur Legat had a lead of just under 7 seconds ahead of Pierre de Vizcaya who was now in 2nd. It was a Bugatti 1-2 with Robert Benoist in 3rd racing for team Delage. Hellé Nice was in 4th but had dropped further back and was nearly 8 seconds behind the race leader.

Then word got out of a serious accident on lap 23, there was a huge uproar from the spectators. One of the Bugatti's had veered off the track. It was Hellé Nice, who went out too far on the banking and at a speed of more than 160 km/h (100mph) she flew off the track. Later, it was revealed that she had died.

As more laps passed, Robert Benoist managed to pass Pierre de Vizcaya for second place in front of the large crowd that had gathered at the race. Although Arthur Legat was driving very well and had a lead of about 8 seconds as the race continued, he had a few close calls when on the banking and while passing some of the lapped cars.

On lap 49, the crowd once again made a loud commotion, but this time it was significantly more upsetting. With only two laps remaining, the race's leader, Arthur Legat, ran wide and went off the banking exactly where his teammate Hellé Nice did. Tragically along with Arthur Legat, three marshals also perished in a huge accident.

This meant that Robert Benoist, who had just begun the final lap, was now in the lead. He went on to win the race; Pierre de Vizcaya, the only Bugatti to finish, came in second. By finishing third, Henry Segrave gave Sunbeam another podium result.

However, the celebrations were cut short after the tragic events that took place. The deaths of the marshals and the mystery surrounding their placement on the banking will be looked into. This race serves as a reminder that Grand Prix racing is an extremely dangerous sport.

Race Results

1. Robert Benoist - Delage 35.58.859
2. Pierre de Vizcaya - Bugatti +3.148
3. Henry Segrave - Sunbeam +10.894
4. Archie Bohannon - HMRT +22.520

Injury Report

1. When Hellé Nice drove off the banking, her car briefly took off into the air before plummeting back down into the ground at 166 km/h (103 mph). The car then struck trees at 106 km/h (66mph). Hellé Nice was pronounced dead at the scene. It's not clear if Bugatti plan on replacing her for the next race, news will be out about that later.

2. Similar to his teammate, Arthur Legat was involved in an accident at the same corner, but his car hit three marshals at a speed of 154 km/h (96mph). At 145 km/h (90 mph), Arthur Legat's car overturned and landed on its side. He was tossed into the air and struck the same tree's that Hellé Nice had been recovered from earlier. Both Arthur Legat and the three marshals were declared dead at the scene. User Butterfox can choose whether or not to replace him with a new driver.

Yes, I believe that the Bugattis at the Sitges-Terramar were just too quick on the banking due to their smoother ride than the other teams. Luckily the next few races don't look to be so dangerous for the drivers, now that I've said that I've probably jinxed it

Image

Since I haven't yet created a replacement for Hellé Nice in the Bugatti, I'll use Barney Jones, my backup driver, in the Voisin for the upcoming race.

The Sachsen Grand Prix's practice session at the Deutschlandring will begin tomorrow. Several drivers are returning this weekend after recovering from their accidents at the first race; they include,

Kay Petre - Delage
Pietro Bordini - Fiat
Antonio Ascari - Fiat

Only two drivers are now out of action and still recovering from their injuries,

Tobias Lammonby out until Grand Est Grand Prix
Georges Mignolet out until Merseyside Grand Prix

Bugatti Say Now Is Not The Time

Hellé Nice and Arthur Legat, who unfortunately passed away two weeks ago during the Spanish Grand Prix, are still mourned by the team. As of right now, it has been verified that Hellé Nice has no replacement, and it is yet unknown whether Arthur Legat will be replaced.

After the last race, some things are going to happen with the team
- Pierre de Viscaya will race for the next race, and we will see what’ll happen with that. Hopefully he doesn’t die like the other Bugatti drivers.
- Pietro Bordini is back, and will replace Benoist for the next race.

That seems about it for now.

Pietro Bordini Fastest In Practice After Returning From Injury

It was overcast at first but brightened up near the end of practice, and it was cold—the coldest temperatures the drivers have driven in so far this year. Teams breathed a sigh of relief as all drivers navigated the track safely and without incident.

However we did see plenty of overtakes as the drivers tried to put in their fastest lap times and it was Pietro Bordini who claimed the top spot, with a blazing time that saw him as the only Fiat driver among the top five, he made a triumphant return after taking a race off to recover from a injury sustained at the Targa Florio event last month. Meanwhile, Sunbeam put on a strong showing, with four of their drivers clinching positions among the top five.

Race Report - Fiat Celebrates Double Podium Finish with Ascari and Anzungolst

Today's weather presents a picturesque scene of a serene overcast sky with crisp, dry air. Despite the chill in the air, the excitement of the race is palpable as Antonio Ascari, starting from the pole position, made a commanding start, effortlessly securing the lead as he exits the first bend. Soon after the race began, Kay Petre's car was spotted pulling over to the side of the road; the engine in her car had malfunctioned, eliminating her from the race. As the only representative of the Delage team, this was a disappointing outcome, particularly in light of their recent victory at the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks prior. It is a race they would rather consign to the annals of history.

In a show of sheer mastery, Henry Segrave deftly overtook his teammate Gwenda Hawkes at the start of the second lap, solidifying his position in fifth place. Antonio Ascari continued to lead the race, with a 1.9 second gap over Archie Bohannon in second and a 4.5-second gap over Walter Anzungolst in third. The thrill of the competition intensified as Pietro Bordini made a fearless move, passing Sir Percy Holmes for sixth place on the third lap. The Italian driver did not relent, pushing his limits further as he made another impressive pass, overtaking Gwenda Hawkes on the fourth lap to secure fifth place.

As the race progressed to lap 5, Antonio Ascari maintained his lead, with a 4.1-second advantage over Archie Bohannon in second place. Archie Bohannon, however, was fiercely focused on fending off the relentless charge of Walter Anzungolst, who was closing in with a mere 0.6-second gap. The battle for the podium intensified as Henry Segrave, who had worked his way up to fourth place, was rapidly closing the gap to the top three drivers, adding to the nail-biting excitement of the race.

Lap 6 was uneventful, with the only noteworthy development being Henry Segrave's persistent pursuit of Walter Anzungolst for third place. At the start of the final lap, Henry Segrave finally made his move, successfully overtaking Walter Anzungolst to claim third place. However, his triumph was short-lived as his car momentarily veered off the road onto the grass. Despite his quick recovery and return to the track, he had fallen half a second behind Walter Anzungolst and lost his grip on third place.

The race culminated in a triumphant victory for Antonio Ascari, marking his return from injury and earning him his first victory of the year. This was also a momentous occasion for Fiat, as it marked their first victory of the year. Archie Bohannon's remarkable performance earned him a well-deserved second place, securing HMRT's first podium finish. Walter Anzungolst, driving the other Fiat, rounded out the top three, delivering a strong showing for the team.

Race Results

1. Antonio Ascari - Fiat 33.59.774
2. Archie Bohannon - HMRT +4.122
3. Walter Anzungolst - Fiat +6.037

Pietro Bordini Finds Himself Once Again Fastest In Practice

Today's main topic of discussion was the weather, with its cold, cloudy, and sleet-filled conditions. The roads offered little grip for the drivers who braved the track. Despite the challenges, the drivers soldiered on, navigating their way through the harsh elements. However, during the practice session, Henry Segrave found himself in a tricky situation when attempting to pass Walter Anzungolst at a turn, resulting in him running wide and onto the grass. Nevertheless, he managed to regain control and get back onto the track.

Despite his brief off-track excursion, Henry Segrave still managed to set the fastest lap of the practice session during its early stages. Meanwhile, spectators were treated to an exciting on-track battle between Prinz JWF Oscar and Donald Wings. The contest heated up as Prinz JWF Oscar veered off-course and made contact with the wooden fencing. However, he was able to continue despite the incident.

Henry Segrave held onto his position as the top contender until the very last minute, when Pietro Bordini set a new fastest lap time. As we approach the weekend, Fiat appears to be a formidable force once again, but Sunbeam also shows signs of strength. However, qualifying may prove to be a challenge, with snow in the forecast. Thankfully, the weather forecast for race day on Sunday predicts drier and sunnier conditions.

Bugatti Will Reveal Their New Driver At The Grand Est Grand Prix

The tragic death of Hellé Nice at the Spanish Grand Prix earlier this month left the Bugatti team shocked and saddened, with no immediate plans for a replacement driver. However, the team has now announced that a new driver will be taking Nice's place at the next race. Meanwhile, there is still no news regarding Arthur Legat's replacement after his untimely passing during the same race.

Qualifying Report

Despite the challenging weather conditions that persisted from Friday, the qualifying session on Saturday proved to be no less difficult for the drivers as they were faced with a shift from sleet to snow. Gwenda Hawkes, driving the Sunbeam, initially set the pace with the fastest lap in the first half of qualifying. However, Pietro Bordini, who had been the fastest in practice, made a late surge and managed to put in an even faster lap time.

Just as it seemed that Gwenda Hawkes might be able to secure pole position during her final lap, she found herself hindered by Pierre de Vizcaya's speedy Bugatti, which proved difficult to overtake on the straight stretches of the track. Despite Hawkes being even quicker in the first sector, she was unable to get past the Bugatti and had to settle for second place, allowing Pietro Bordini to secure pole position.

Race Report: Fiat Dominates in Thrilling Race, Bordini Takes Pole Position and Victory

Sunday's race saw a marked improvement in the weather conditions, with dry and sunny skies overhead. However, the persistently cold temperatures continued to pose a challenge. As the race began, Pietro Bordini in his Fiat got off to a strong start, but the event was not without its initial drama. When Henry Segrave, who was starting in 4th place, moved off the line, his car immediately lost control and spun out, causing him to collide with Antonio Ascari. Unfortunately, the crash forced Segrave to retire from the race. Although Ascari's car sustained some damage during the incident, it didn't seem to have a significant impact on his race pace.

The first lap of the race featured several overtakes, but perhaps the most impressive was executed by Archie Bohannon, who passed Sir Alfred Moss to claim fifth place. While Bohannon's car briefly made contact with the wooden fencing, he managed to recover without incident. On the second lap, Antonio Ascari began to close in on Gwenda Hawkes and overtook her to secure third place. Meanwhile, Pietro Bordini held a commanding lead of just under four seconds ahead of Walter Anzungolst in second place.

As lap four approached, the race grew increasingly interesting. Further back in the field, Sanjay Atimanusa attempted to pass Sir Percy Holmes, who held ninth place, but was unsuccessful. A few minutes later, at the start of the next lap, Atimanusa once again tried to make a move on Holmes. However, he ran wide and ended up off the track, narrowly avoiding contact with the fencing. Although Atimanusa was able to rejoin the race, he had fallen behind Holmes in the process.

While Pietro Bordini maintained his commanding lead of nearly eight seconds, Antonio Ascari was rapidly closing the gap between himself and Walter Anzungolst, who occupied second place. By this stage of the race, there was only half a second between the two drivers. It was evident that Pietro Bordini, the race leader, was in top form as he had established an firm lead of nearly eight seconds.

As the final lap approached, Michel Coopmans successfully fended off two overtaking attempts from Prinz JWF Oscar to retain his tenth position. Meanwhile, Archie Bohannon snatched fourth place from Gwenda Hawkes with only minutes left in the race. Sir Alfred Moss also attempted to overtake Hawkes, but she put up a strong defense. In the closing moments of the race, Sir Percy Holmes made a bid to overtake Kay Petre, but she managed to hold him off.

Pietro Bordini took the checkered flag with an impressive 16-second lead, securing his well-deserved victory. Meanwhile, Antonio Ascari put on a remarkable performance despite his car damage, overtaking Walter Anzungolst on the final lap and securing second place. Walter Anzungolst had to settle for third, but the Fiat team can celebrate their triumphant domination, taking the top three spots in the race.

Race Results

1. Pietro Bordini - Fiat 35.02.154

15. Bakhadur Aghayev - Rolland-Pilain +192.604
16. Henry Segrave - Sunbeam - Spun Off

Current Championship Standings

Despite Sir Percy Holmes still holding onto the top spot in the championship, his lead has decreased in the last month due to the impressive performances from Antonio Ascari, who jumped from 10th to 3rd, and Pietro Bordini, who climbed from 15th to 7th in the rankings after this race. With only 4 points separating the top 10, the championship remains highly competitive.

Injury Report

1. Henry Segrave lost control of his car, leading to a collision with Antonio Ascari at low speed. While the incident caused Henry Segrave some minor injuries and bruising, he'll make a full recovery before the next race.

2. At the start of the race, Antonio Ascari collided with Henry Segrave's motionless car, but he pushed through the pain to finish in an impressive 2nd place. Despite admitting to feeling discomfort during the race, the adrenaline rush of the competition helped him focus. Following a medical checkup, Ascari was given a clean bill of health.

Pietro Bordini Fastest In Wet Weather Practice

As the teams and drivers arrived at the track today, they were met with blustery winds and rain, setting the stage for another round of challenging weather conditions. Amidst the excitement and anticipation, local media attention was mainly fixated on the French teams and their highly anticipated upgrades, which they brought to their home race.

As the practice session got underway, drivers were met with a slippery track that proved to be a challenge for most, with over half of them failing to complete a perfect lap. Many ran off the track and onto the grass during practice. Despite these setbacks, the familiar face of Pietro Bordini in his Fiat emerged at the top of the timing sheets, starting the weekend on a positive note after his previous win.

While Sir Percy Holmes finished not too far behind in the Sunbeam, the crowd couldn't help but erupt in excitement as Kay Petre, driving for the French team Delage, finished practice with the third fastest time. Many are now wondering if the upgrades brought by the French teams pose a threat to Fiat and Sunbeam. Only time will tell.

Qualifying Report: Henry Segrave Secures an Unexpected Pole Position

After Friday's wet and windy weather, the sun shone down on the racetrack, with a pleasant warmth in the air and the winds had settled down. As the drivers revved their engines and set off on their timed laps, the excitement began to build. Donald Wings made a valiant effort to overtake Kay Petre, but her newly upgraded Delage proved to be too much for him to handle. Later on, Sir Alfred Moss made his move and passed Wings, but his ambitious maneuver caused him to veer off course and nearly crash into the nearby brick buildings. It was a close call, but luckily disaster was avoided.

Early on in the qualifying round, Henry Segrave put on an impressive performance, setting a remarkably fast lap time and securing pole position. Despite the other drivers still out on the track, attempting to claim the top spot, Segrave's dominance was hard to beat. Even when favorites such as Pietro Bordini crossed the finish line, they failed to displace Segrave from the pole position. The crowd was taken aback by the unexpected turn of events, as some of the favorites performed poorly during the qualifying session.

Race Report: Delage Impresses as Segrave Secures Win in Exciting Race

Sunday dawned with ideal racing weather, and drivers eagerly took to the track for the main event. As the race began, the first few corners saw no mishaps to speak of. However, as the drivers made their way around the track, the competition began to heat up. Michel Coopmans made a bold move to overtake Prinz JWF Oscar, but his attempt proved unsuccessful. Coopmans ran wide and found himself careening towards a lamp post, a near-disastrous turn of events. Fortunately, he managed to recover and rejoin the race, though he lost one spot and fell back to 12th place.

Sir Alfred Moss set his sights on overtaking Prinz JWF Oscar. With a bold and daring move, Moss cut the track, veering off onto the grass and over a small hill, going through bushes and other obstacles in his path. For a moment, it appeared that Moss had succeeded in his attempt, briefly overtaking Oscar. However, as he rejoined the track, his car landed with a jarring thud, costing him valuable time and allowing Oscar to retake his spot in 10th place. Moss had taken a significant risk in his attempt to advance his position, and while it did not pan out as he had hoped, it was a thrilling spectacle for the fans watching from the stands.

As the race progressed, Kay Petre found herself falling behind the leaders, now sitting in 5th place with a growing number of cars closing in behind her. However, the real excitement came when Tobias Lammonby reappeared on the scene after a few races away due to injury. Lammonby wasted no time in making his presence known, executing a daring move to overtake Petre and claim the 5th place position for himself. It was a powerful display of driving skill and determination, signaling to his competitors that he was back and ready to compete at the highest level.

Pietro Bordini and Archie Bohannon battled it out for 3rd place. Bordini made a bold move to overtake Bohannon, but Bohannon refused to give up so easily, quickly overtaking Bordini to reclaim his position. Meanwhile, Kay Petre had fallen back to 7th place, with Antonio Ascari making a daring move to overtake her and push her down to 8th. The race was full of surprises, with even the championship leader, Sir Percy Holmes, struggling to make headway. Starting in 14th place, Holmes fought hard to advance his position, finally managing to overtake Sir Finlay Underwood towards the end of lap one and secure 13th place.

As the race entered its second and final lap, the competition was heating up between Gwenda Hawkes and Tobias Lammonby, who were locked in an intense battle for 5th place. With skillful overtakes and strategic maneuvers, the two drivers exchanged positions several times, thrilling the crowd with their dynamic driving.

Kay Petre was determined to make her way up the grid. With her impressive Delage displaying unmatched straight-line speed, she quickly overtook Antonio Ascari for 7th place. However, Ascari was not willing to go down without a fight, and instead began to go wide on the track, essentially forcing Petre off the road. In a dirty and reckless move, Ascari even went off the track himself for a moment. However, karma proved to be on Petre's side, and she quickly regained her composure and focused on the road ahead. With a few moments of straight track ahead of her, she utilized her Delage to overtake Ascari once again and secure her place in 7th. It was a display of fearless driving from Kay Petre, and a testament to her determination to finish strong despite the dirty tactics of her opponent.

As the checkered flag was waved, Henry Segrave triumphantly claimed the top step of the podium, cementing his victory in the race. Despite a valiant effort from Walter Anzungolst, who managed to narrow the gap between himself and Segrave, the second place was his to claim. Meanwhile, Pietro Bordini rounded out the podium in third place. Though the French teams' upgrades may not have had a significant impact on the race, Kay Petre's impressive performance proved that Delage had certainly stepped up their game.
