Only slightly dejected by his unexpected - and rude - rejection by Aerocondor, Don Eduardo has approached Aerotal for another prospective airline partnership. In addition, he has reached out feelers to Galletas Noel for some additional sponsorship.

Baumann shall approach the following drivers for part-time schedules:
  • Freddy Stozitzky
    Julio D'Angelo
    Rafael Molina
    Enrique Martinez
All drivers will be expected to gib emone.

Should resultant emone be sufficient to purchase a Wartburg, one shall be imported immediately from the GDR.

News for August 1976
Tension in Korea
WASHINGTON, 22. (From the AP, AFP and UPI). The tension in the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas took on new worrying aspects on Sunday, when North American sources stated that the "expression of regret" given by the North's government after the death of two United States officers did not seem satisfactory.
Along with this "expression of regret," the North Korean government accused President Gerald Ford of creating a situation that brings the Asian peninsula "to the brink of war." The North Koreans were referring to Ford's determination to make a show of force, sending a naval detachment led by an aircraft carrier.
President Ford was this weekend in the small town of Vail, in the State of Colorado, where he usually spends his vacations.
Broadcasts from Pyonyang, the North Korean capital, have used one of the harshest language in recent times against Ford, going so far as to call him a "scoundrel."
Sources close to the State Department said that the United States demands that the North Koreans present their apologies for the incident in which the two officers died, in a clear and public manner. They added that the "expression of regret", which was known on Sunday, is not enough.
Pyongyang radio said the incident shows Ford is "looking for a pretext to restart the war."

Gutierrez Castro denies Lockheed bribery
The former director of National Planning, Edgar Gutiérrez Castro, emphatically denied that he had received bribes for the purchase of North American Lockheed aircraft and categorically denied the versions that were spread in that sense.
Gutiérrez Castro reported that his intervention in the purchase of the "Hercules" aircraft was limited to a study requested by President Carlos Lleras Restrepo, in which he assumed a position adverse to the acquisition of the three aircraft originally requested by the Air Force.
The versions that circulated yesterday say that Gutiérrez Castro appears in the documents sent by the United States Department of Justice to Colombian investigators about the negotiations that have caused enormous scandals in Holland, Italy and Japan. The other names that are mentioned in the documents are the already known generals Armando Urrego Bernal, José Ramón Calderón Molano and the current commander of the FAC, Federico Rincón Puentes.

Alvaro Gomez does not recognize Pastrana's leadership
Former candidate Alvaro Gómez Hurtado skillfully evaded the recognition of a conservative "natural leadership" of former president Misael Pastrana Borrero, and stated that he recognized the president of the Conservative Directorate, Ignacio Vélez Escobar, as the only leader of his party, "because I like the legitimate bosses." The conservative leader, Alvaro Gómez Hurtado, rejected an eventual leadership of his party headed by former president Misael Pastrana Borrero and although he warned that there are no personal differences with him, he assured that the only leader is Ignacio Vélez Escobar, president of the current National Directorate .
Gómez Hurtado reiterated that he will not be his party's candidate in the next campaign and denied that his group, the "alvarismo", is participating in a "tenaza" promoted by the Government, according to the accusations made against him by some elements of the Pastranista sector.
The conservative leader stated that now more than ever he is dedicated to journalism, as director of "El Siglo" and from whose editorials he makes the comments he considers necessary.

Otero, first great winner
With the triumphs of Jorge Cortés and Eduardo Otero, the new era of Colombian motorsports began yesterday. This is how the drivers themselves described the transcendental event that took place yesterday at the "Ricardo Mejía" International Circuit of Bogotá and this is how the eight thousand or more spectators who settled in the gigantic stands of the imposing stage felt it.
The racetrack reopened its doors yesterday to automobile competitions after having fought intense battles in the face of the systematic and negative opposition that the Colombian Automobile Federation always maintained - and maintains: after the Mejia family, through a commendable effort, had to begin by "grooming", practically, drivers, but in the end it had the support of great figures, after overcoming a whole series of problems that, due to intrigues, wanted to make those same doors remain closed.
And the success was resounding, because the contest was given a magnificent organization; because the public responded greatly to this new release; because the races were extremely interesting and because the drivers gave a wonderful demonstration of good driving.
The racetrack, now, has begun to fulfill the function for which it was built, becoming a work qualified and praised in the first category by international critics. The drivers will have a place to demonstrate their skills. The cars will test their qualities. And the public will be able to attend a speed show to give free rein to their hobby.
Yesterday, when the first date of the Copa Marlboro was held, was actually a sensational event, in which more than twenty drivers, among established figures and new faces, were fighting, within equal conditions never before seen, to achieve the honors of the event.

The winner of the day was Eduardo Otero, who gave a magnificent demonstration of driving in his Renault car. To reach first position, Otero had to win the first of the two agreed races and then in the second he consolidated his lead in the championship by placing himself in third place.

In second position in the championship was Francisco Lopez, after two solid presentations, and third was Jorge Cortés, recovering some dignity in the second race in compensation for the misfortune he suffered in the first, in which he was a strong candidate for victory. The great surprise or better yet, the revelation of this meeting was the young Jorge Ortega, 19 years old, who despite not having completed any race in positions of honor, participated in an impressive presentation that gave great excitement and spectacle to the audience.
The second date of the championship is scheduled for September 26.

Perla del Caribe will raise funds using what can be reasonably used from our coffers.

We will then ask Rodolfo Azuero if he wishes to extend his time with the team to include the final race of the season. We will pay him for the extra round.

If Azuero is not interested, we will approach the following drivers to fill in for Azuero for the final round (In car #69):

Julio D'Angelo
