Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Belgium 2024

Post by Londoner »

1. George Russell's tyres. How on earth did they last 34 laps, bloody hell.

2. Esteban Ocon. Wrung another point out of the shitbox.

1. Alonso dragging his team along by hook or by crook at this point.
2. If Piastri had had a few more laps he could have taken a top spot.

1) Mercedes - a 1/2 after the pace of Red Bull and Mclaren? No one called that.

2) Alpine - overtaking everything and scored a point, their recovery continues

Whilst the focus may be on Russell, the fact that Ocon made it into the points is perhaps more of a surprise, given this circuit was not expected to favour them particularly.

Can't disagree with either of these shouts.

Absolutely Mercedes' 1 and 2 - was not expecting that at all given Mclaren's recent pace and Ferrari's form on Friday and Saturday.

1. George Russell. What a call from him to do the 1 stop. No-one thought it could be done and he did it. No-one thought George would win this race

2 Estaban Ocon. Maybe the car looking like a Haas helped him get a point.
Benetton of 1992. Never a reject

Russell - Well deserved victory.
Murray Walker: "A lot of people here are really debating whether Ricardo Rosset is Formula 1 material"
Martin Brundle: "Well, it's a fairly short debate, Murray".

Russell, then Ocon.

HM to Leclerc for finishing above where Ferrari’s pace would otherwise indicate.
It's just unbelievable...that Formula 1 could be such a ridiculous melange of idiots.

It looks like a spanner might have been thrown into the works there, as there are breaking reports that Russell's car has failed the post-race weight checks by 1.5kg and might end up being disqualified.

Honourable Mention goes to Yuki Tsunoda for making up 43 places during the race from 60th to 17th. :deletraz: :deletraz: :deletraz: :deletraz:

Esteban Ocon, I guess: Ninth in an Alpine is a great achievement.

Going for Ocon. (Would have been Russell had his car been legal).

Ocon - At least that special livery was awarded with a points-finish though I think it looked more like last years Alfa Romeo/Sauber.

HM: Bottas, managed to get into the points at one point, but I suspect a repeat of 10 years ago is on the cards.
