My personal champion?

Jody Scheckter.

There aren't half some youngsters around here...

Ha, there is another ancient in here! I share Mr. Scheckter with you.

1989 was the year Alain Prost won a World Championship.
Some say he plans to put an S921 on the Goodwood 2012 run, and that he DOES know what Deletraz is doing.
All we know is...he's called Perry McCarthy!

...we'll never see an S921 at Goodwood, will we?

Shameless copy of Midgrid:

F1 World Champion: Nelson Piquet
F3000 International: Stefano Modena
Japanese F3000: Kazuyoshi Hoshino
British F3: Johnny Herbert
French F3: Jean Alesi
German F3: Bernd Schneider
Italian F3: Enrico Bertaggia
ETCC: Winfred Vogt

BTCC: Chris Hodgetts
WSR: Raul Boesel
CART: Bobby Rahal
Trans-Am: Scott Pruett
NASCAR: Dale Earnhardt

I'm surprised how many of those names I recognise, it seems almost all of them went on to greater things in the 90s, 1987 must have been a good year.

Prost 85.

But I share the same birthdate with Mario Andretti, Eric Bachelart, and Sebastien Bourdais.

Thats February 28th
Miserable Thierry (Boutsen) staggers round mostly on ten cylinders (out of 12) with no clutch, low oil pressure, bad brakes and no grip to finish tenth, 3 laps down...

(Murray Walkers review of Boutsen's Brazil 1991 race).

Thats a point these days!

In my year, this person won the first of his three world championship, 31 drivers failed to score a point but 21 drivers did score a point, point scorers included 2 americans (although one other tried too) but only 3 brits (although another 10 tried to) and 3 frenchmen (although 3 others also tried too). A single Japanese driver was involved in the world championship, trying to qualify a Japanese car... There were 2 swiss and 2 swedes too and at least 5 south africans. And an Italian didn't even score a point, but did not score zero either.... Can you guess the year.

1975. The Japanese trying to qualify the Japanese car should be Hiroshi Fushida in the Maki-Ford Cosworth, and the Italian that didn't score a point but didn't fail to score either is Lella Lombardi.

The year of McLaren domination and the Rise of Senna. aka 1988. Funny to see how many youngsters the forums has. Granted, we got a lot of Old hats too so I'm kinda on the middle of the road :D
Ironically enough the first race I ever saw was the race where Senna died.

That would be Keke Rosberg in 1982.

There's a "heartwarming" (YMMV) story on that, since my first word was "Keke". The name was up a lot that year in Finland. That's also probably my closest connection to F1. Either that or owning a bottle of Giancarlo Fisichella deodorant.
