Two faces of a different track, and it showed. On the circuit we only could manage to stay midfield, but on the oval the car just flew. The setup was perfect and the 5th and 1st on the grid and the podium on the second oval race proves our effort.

Milos Kaletic wrote

Just like Hayato, the oval made the difference. While I manage to qualify for the fist race on the circuit, I finally got the car to work for the high speed runaround. I even got ahead of Hayato in qualify! It's a shame that the engine gave up while running 4th. I'm safe for now. :)

La Gazzetta Dello Sport wrote:Roda bemused at unreliability, alludes to potential sabotage

Giovanni Roda has express his bemusement at events in the winter season SANDWICH series, where the team he co-owns with former F1RWRS driver Hagane Shizuka has suffered a constant string of technical-related DNFs, despite running spec equipment almost identical to championship leaders CWG.

"Recent events in the series have been downright bizarre," the Italian said. "The only equipment differentiators between our cars and CWG's are aerodynamic components. The powertrain and the chassis are absolutely identical. We drafted in the best engineers from all over our parent group's world championship winning teams, along with Revo staff with experience in Japanese series. It is impossible to prepare any better than we have for this season."

"You compare the results of CWG and ours, and something does not add up. We have taken all the required steps to finish the races at least at a similar frequency as CWG have. Our mechanical failures are so frequent, there is clearly an external source influencing our retirement rate. Something that isn't within our control. Something or someone that is directly influencing our reliability without our knowledge."

Roda then discussed the future of his co-owned team in the SANDWICH series, which his Trueba organisation splits 50-50 with longstanding ARWS team Revolution Engineering. Its team principal Hagane Shizuka, the lead driver for Revo-Trueba, has been the main victim of reliability woes, and Roda looks likely to sell his half either to Shizuka or another investor at the end of the season, or perhaps even earlier.

"As far as I am concerned, we are finished here," said Roda. "Our season is over already. Trueba's venture in this series is finished. We will not return for another season. I don't know about Shizuka, he may want to continue solo or find another partner, but we will be looking to turn our attentions inward to Europe and only Europe."

As for the more immediate future, Roda indicated that only divine intervention could save his team's season.

"I believe that God must be testing me," he said. "It is true, I have sinned in the past. I think that's on public record, frankly! In the past my instinct was to rage. I think this is a test to see if I can weather the storm and stay calm. Maybe growing older is mellowing me out a bit, I don't know. I now have a factory GT team to run, I must focus on bringing that team success and burying this failed venture into the ground, than get wound up and angry about it."

Despite its all-star lineup of Hagane Shizuka and Dan Greenlaw, Revolution-Trueba sit only 5th in the constructors championship, a massive 285 points behind leaders CWG Data Collection. Meanwhile, their higher scoring driver Greenlaw is currently 185 points behind overall leader Barii Mori.

May I remind anyone considering a driver replacement that there are a bunch of drivers very eager to accept an offer!

AndreaModa wrote:I missed offering up drivers for this, but if anyone needs a solid pedaller to fill a vacant slot then I have a few drivers to consider:

Roberto Dinella (ITA) - Lampre keep pumping money into this guy's career and no-one quite knows why. He's dependable though, won races at F3RWRS level and has scored points in F2RWRS in 2017. Comes with free flashes of pink to add to your livery.

Josh Carlisle (GBR) - Josh has driven pretty much everything except an F1RWRS car and is keen to show what he can do in SANDWICH. He'll drive the wheels off his car (sometimes literally) such is his dedication to the team.

Chuck Barrett (USA) - An up-and-coming American looking to tie down a drive for 2018, Chuck is the perfect signing for a team looking for a bright star from the States. Drove for Octan in F3RWRS in 2017. It's rumoured that he considers fuel injection to be the work of Satan himself.

Connor O'Heagan (IRE) - The ginger-haired public face of the Shannon Group was unceremoniously sacked from the Boxtel F1RWRS team in 2017, and has a point to prove. Brings suitcases of cash from unsecured loans and dodgy investments. But hey, cash is cash right?

Alexey Pchelintsev (KAZ) - The man with the unpronounceable surname tried (and largely failed) to resurrect his ailing career in F5000 in 2017. Now with few options on the table he's looking at SANDWICH as the next shot of 300 volts to re-start his career. Has F1RWRS experience and spent all of his junior career in the Japanese motorsport scene.

Any of these are free and available to fill a seat at short notice and will take any drive so just sign them up if you want them! :)

Seeing as Revo-Trueba can forget about any kind of success in this series, Dan Greenlaw will depart and be replaced with Benoit Voeckler, who was just sacked by Kurosawa a few minutes ago.

Right, enough PR crap. So yeah, Voeckler out, Suomanen in.

Morgan replaced at Narita Enginerring

James Morgan has parted company with Narita Engineering due to a lack of results, both the team and the British driver has struggled in the opening rounds of the series. His replacement for the remaining rounds will be Thomas Wren who competed in F5000 during 2017 taking victory in the first Sepang race as well as a second place finish in the season opener. The Britsh driver was a regular feature in the top 10 throughout the year

Ataxia wrote:Just dropping in to detail the process to get GP2 liveries game-ready. It's a simple enough process, you've just got to get the colour palettes right.

1) Download IrfanView (but for the love of god, DON'T download from CNET) and GP2Edit. You can get GP2Edit here.

2) Open your livery file in IrfanView, and then go to Image > Palette. Open this palette.

3) You might see the livery change. Applying the palette makes sure it's in the 256 colours that GP2 uses. Pro tip: avoid purple, and only use the oranges in the palette given.

4) Open GP2Edit. Click Car Bitmap > Open... > and then select your file.

5) Open the GP2Edit 3D Car Viewer (from either Window > 3d Car Viewer or by simply clicking the small green car icon, sixth from left on the icon bar). Check it out and make your changes.

Alternatively, instead of doing the IrfanView and dealing with the palettes, you can download this package - this contains the Windows XP and Windows Vista versions of mspaint.exe, which should retain the GP2 palettes (from the BASE.BMP file). :)

We blew the qualify for both races trying to bring out more of the car, so it was back to burn from the stern. Two sides of the coin this weekend, with a fine 8th on first race, while a spin late on race 2 put me on the back.

Just as Hayato, we try to do the impossible with the car and ended on the wall on quali for race 1, which left me bruised, and questioned my own ability. Improved on second quali, but not enough to be on the field. Aimee Gauthier wrote:It has not been an ideal title defence for me, for sure. I think CWG and the Hanamura team have done well to get such a margin on us, but we still have a small chance of stealing the title and I will still be pushing very hard to make the most of it. The reliability has been quite poor this season, unfortunately, which is most of the reason why we are so far back. Still, I am confident in the team and that they will give me the best equipment they can, and even if I do not win, it is not so bad for me to lose to drivers like Kazama, McKane, and Mori.

In the end, a lack of reliability cost Gauthier the championship. Still 2nd in the team championship is a good result.

Same can certainly be said for Shizuka, losing no less than 5 podiums to unreliability (I think more even). Crippling unreliability despite the same technical package as CWG. What can you do when the spec parts conspire against you?

It was always going to be extremely difficult with the deficit we had to catch any of Mori, McKane, or Kazama, so that we beat two of them was very good. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the setup as good as Naoki's in the first race - if I had done that, the story may have turned out quite different. Still, this was a great experience for me in my career, and I am thankful for the opportunity.

I would disagree. It was way below expectation. None of it the drivers' fault though. Swift and Honda completely screwed the Revolution - Trueba partnership.
