So all these laws can be included in an off-topic law.

I remember I had a law but I'm not sure what it is...either as a topic progresses the odds of a football reference reduce to 1, or the odds of an Italian reference reduce to 1. I think.

TOP TEN...BEST COP SHOWS

10. T.J. HOOKER
Image
Seasons 2 to 5 get special F1 Rejects approval. James Darren was one of the "LCPD" police sergeants.

9. THE PROFESSIONALS
Image
Car chases in literally every episode? I approve!

8. CSI: MIAMI
Image
Does it genuinely deserve to be this high up the list? Probably not. But everything is orange and the one-liners are legendary. So, yeah, there.

7. STARSKY & HUTCH
Image
Why were the driving/stunt scenes so spectacular? Because Paul Michael Glaser was deliberately trying to write-off the "garish" Gran Torinos.

6. MIAMI VICE
Image
Marks off for using rebodied Corvettes as fake Ferrari Daytona Spyders.

5. POLICE SQUAD!
Image
Hilarious comedy mocking 1970s police dramas. Leslie Nielsen's project prefacing the The Naked Gun series.

4. MONK
Image
You won't need as much patience as Monk's co-workers to watch it.

3. LIFE ON MARS
Image
Fire up the...erm, Cortina. At least the rest of the show was stronger than the motor.

2. THE WIRE
Image
There is a reason why Jón Gnarr wouldn't form a political alliance with anyone that hadn't seen all five seasons.

1. IL COMMISSARIO MONTALBANO
Image
Genuinely the best cop show on TV. Genuinely funny (not cheesy-funny), exciting, well written, well acted, everything. Only Sicilians can get away with shouting "I AM EXTREMELY CALM!" down a phone, and then proceeding to throw the phone out a window. A must watch for anyone that has working eyeballs.

Nope, BBC bought the rights to all eight series, every episode has been shown on BBC Four (which is generally where international content gets shafted to). Another favourite of mine is Næturvaktin (made by the now Mayor of Reykjavík himself Jón Gnarr), an Icelandic comedy set in a petrol station. It is a crime they didn't show the sequels Dagvaktin and Fangavaktin as well. However I did see the movie spin-off Bjarnfreðarson, which was great.

The point is, the BBC has a habit of doing something without giving much attention to it, it turns out to be great, and they still ignore it anyway. Really riles me up sometimes.

BTW, Catarella is a complete buffoon, in a really funny way

1. Agreed.
2. Disagreed in part (don't normally watch it, but I applied for tickets for last summer. Anywhere but London, I'm more uninterested than hating it)
3. Agreed.
4-6. No opinion
7. He had the choice to let another company do the damage. He had the choice to accept or decline the contract. The EU would frown upon him and the FIA if he had a monopoly...
8. It could work if done correctly. But it isn't. There was nothing wrong with the old system. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
9. Which one? The one with Giovanna Amati or Damon Hill? Amati's is nice, Hill's is not.
Image or Image?
10. Definitely, 100% disagreed.

Disagree on the first 3, and Number 10. Agree on 5,7, and 8. 9 is half-right, as has already been pointed out. 6 I have no opinion on.

You think he didn't deserve it? He won 10 races (more than twice than anyone else) and had 9 poles (from 26 races), more than anyone. It was more the case that David Leslie was slower but had less retirements, which kept him in touch with Aiello, because on outright pace no one could touch Aiello. He didn't know the tracks anywhere as well as the BTCC regulars and humiliated everyone else. The guys from RML absolutely adored Aiello and dearly wanted him to stay, but neither did for 2000.

Mario would be able to explain this far better than I ever could, but I'll have a go.

With the 2009 rule changes, the join in the second element of the front wing went, so there became more room under the nose to play with. The Force India nosecone of the 2010/2011 car had a bump underneath which was meant to reduce the effect of lift on the underside. I would assume that this would be the same for the Renault, but lowered so the centre of gravity isn't as high.

But yes, it was a horrendous design and made it look like someone had just stuck a Lego brick underneath. They painted that bit black to hide it a little later on, but it still looked about as aerodynamically efficient as Eamonn Holmes.

But... but... but... I like the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Only reason I didn't buy one was because it was overpriced and too expensive to run.

I'll have to disqualify a couple of those... the Fiat Multipla was launched in 1998, making it a 20th century car, and the Perodua Kenari was no more than a clone of the 1995 Daihatsu Move, so... ditto.

However, I will offer alternatives: the Mercedes R-class, which was a "what were they thinking?" moment from the ground up, and the E65 BMW 7-series, before it had its much-needed facial surgery.

8: Yes. Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes. Also, entirely pointless.
7: I guess? Never saw why it was considered SO ugly really....
6: I can see why people dislike the PT Cruiser, but I don't agree. Also, the convertible is one of the most brilliantly misjudged car ideas ever.
5: Only considered ugly by those who haven't seen the Daihatsu Move it was based on.
4: Okay, I could go on for paragraphs about how the Multipla is one of the most unfairly maligned cars of the last 20 or so years, but I'll only say this. The facelifted version looks far worse, purely because it is trying not to be the Multipla when it still very clearly is.
3: I'm assuming you're not very familiar with Mitsuoka. They have done far worse design jobs than the Orochi, which is just enjoyably bizarre. If I had the money and they sold them in the UK, I would totally buy a Viewt.
2: What happens when you give a car a loft conversion.
1: Predictable, given that it has been top of just about every ugly car list for the last 10 years or so. I think mainly because it's not ugly in a characterful way, it just looks horrible.

About the R29, I believe that was the Renault car where they found their aero wind-tunnel tests to be massively flawed too late in the season. Apparently, one of the wall tiles that lined the wind-tunnel had become loose during their building of the car, by a tiny 2mm, but enough to screw the data they collected.

Wether anyone on here (looking at Mario here) can back this up I don't know. But I certainly remember hearing about a Renault car being blamed for that. And considering their 2009 machine was the worst one by a mile since 2001, I reckon it's true.

I bought a copy of Practical Performance Cars yesterday because they had an article about driving the Manx TT course ("Driving a Man's Circuit in Girls' Cars" - the Ford Fiesta Zetec, Maserati 222, Alfa Romeo Spider and Mini Roadster were described by the author as hairdressers' cars and by a guy on the ferry on the way over as "gay as feck"). But the title of this thread clearly indicates that this is not about those cars or that track (because there are not 10 of them!).

No, the article preceeding that was what appears to be a regular Top-Ten feature, where they list their Top-Ten Worst Racing Cars. And they are, in reverse order:

10. Cosworth's 4WD F1 Car
Image

9. Bugatti T251
Image

8. Coloni (the team generally seems to be the indication, but with 1990 flat-12 Subaru-powered entry the suggested low point)
Image (the image that they used in the article)

7. Ensign N179
Image

6. Delettrez Diesel ("And what were Delettrez doing?")
Image

5. Eagle Aircraft "Cropduster"
Image
Image

4. Kauhsen F1
Image

3. ERA E-Type

2. Life (obviously...)

1. Scarab F1

Would have loved to see the Mastercard Lola in this list, but it would be a question of what it would replace - maybe the Cossie, because the Lola actually competed in F1 (with a Cosworth engine...) and Cosworth didn't?

...eight months later and only now have I noticed this comment.

So that mystery that's even made it into a signature about commentators is no longer a mystery! And it's been on a YouTube comment for the last two years... though I never look at comments because they make me angry. Except that one, which doesn't.
