btw, Caterham has no grounds on appeal since the rules were changed specifically before this year and it's a stonewall 5 secs. penalty and nothing more. Even the TV graphics adjusted that immediately after the race.

It's been confirmed he will only have 5 seconds added to his time so has finished 9th.

That... sort of went through my mind - I wondered if he'd be forced to make another pit stop just to make sure the penalty was served, whether or not he had to take on tyres, but that would be a drive-through and more.

Glad that's all cleared up and there can be a pan-forum celebration!

1)Jules Bianchi: A strong, solid drive that put Marussia for the first time in the scoreboard. I can see a Ferrari drive on his future.

2)Marcus Ericsson: As I said earlier, the kid is getting the grip of the car, and this brilliant drive not only put Cowboy to shame, but put Caterham closer to leave the last place in the WCC

Honorable mentions to Daniel Ricciardo (keep smiling, son. That's good for the buisness), (lack of) Reliability (strange to finally see two turbochargers blown in the slowest cirtuit of the calendar, but I don't mind), McLaren (silent run into points)

The Clash of the Titans Award goes to Adrian Sutil with the risky overtakes at Grand Casino AND Jules Bianchi for owning Cowboy at the Rascasse :o

I always thought (and hoped) from the start of the season that Kobayashi would be the man to break the duck for the "young teams"... But ah well. It's impossible not to feel happy for Bianchi and all at Marussia!

Bianchi - I always thought he would be the one to break the duck, and as I really don't like Tony Fernandes, this make me very happy.

Ericsson - Kept his nose clean today, didn't he? Not many others did!

Honourable mention to Hulkenberg for doing a very good job again. Not as unlikely as the above perhaps, although that pass on Magnussen certainly was!

1) Jules Bianchi: Need I say any more?

2) Attrition!: Finally see poor reliability and driver mistakes - to the benefit of the race action.

Honourable Mentions: Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenburg, Romain Grosjean. Actually, add Marcus Ericsson and Max Chilton to that as well.

Whilst I do think that Hulkenberg is quite a good driver, asides from the pass on Magnussen I'd say that Hulkenberg's race was a solid but otherwise not spectacular affair. Throughout the practise sessions, he'd consistently been in the lower part of the top 10 in terms of pace (roughly about 8th to 9th fastest) and slightly shaded by Perez, who looked the slightly quicker driver of the two.
Once you take Perez, Kimi and Vettel out of the equation, 5th place is about where you would have expected him to have ended up - if anything, I'd be more inclined to give Massa a honourable mention for climbing up through the field to 7th place given that Williams's strategy was a fairly high risk one.

1. Bianchi - Who else??? I still don't have a clue as to how they got up that high in the race!
2. McLaren - Genuinely impressed me given their struggles in the past races. Such a shame Magnussen got involved in an incident late in the race.

This race put up lots of great candidates, so here's my shortlist that still gets points in the vote here:
Toro Rosso - Had both drivers in the points, unlucky that they didn't score at all
Rosberg - Held off Hamilton for the whole race, nuff said
Hulkenberg - Fifth for Force India. I'm starting to think this is all becoming standard for this team...
Gutierrez - Also impressed until he spun out of the race.
Marussia and Caterham - Both teams kept it together and competed when everyone ahead of them (Sauber, I'm looking at you) fell out of the race

And my six points, as irrelevant as they are in the Bianchi bonanza go to Nico Hulkenberg. Very solid, if quiet performance as usual

1. Jules Bianchi. Just finished watching the race on my DVR, and the American commentators were freaking out about Bianchi having to serve another stop-go penalty and then wondering why he hadn't come in to serve it after ten laps  Had to check Reddit to make sure he kept the points, and indeed he (mostly) did! With everything else happening in this race, Monaco 2014 is now at the top of my replay list.

2. Ryan Hunter-Reay. Because I can.

Honorable mention: FOM TV Director. At least for the second half of the race. I'll make a point of nominating him for ROTR, too, but at least after the second safety car they didn't just keep the cameras glued to the Mercedes all day, and even gave some airtime to Bianchi!

EDIT: Changing second place. Because I can.

Mind you, many have also thought that Hulkenberg would be in a Ferrari seat by now given their interest in him, so it will probably still be a while yet before Bianchi can hope to move to Ferrari.

At least there is one nice touch from this weekend - it seems that even Jean Todt went over to Marussia to congratulate them on their success:

This was in fact the only race all year in which FOM did not produce the world feed/TV pictures. It was in fact Monaco's own TV broadcaster, Tele Monte Carlo, that did the world feed. I like the fact that there is still a host broadcaster in F1, but it was frustrating that TMC did not follow Bianchi as he crossed the line, especially since Monaco is practically Bianchi's home race!

1. Jules Bianchi - I bet Richard Branson wishes he stuck around now! LOL

Seriously though, this is why the website exists for genuinely meteoric heroic performances, the pass on Kobayashi, starting last on the grid and effectively serving his penalty TWICE! 5 Years in the making.

I haven't been this happy since Alonso was overtaken by a Super Aguri all them years back.

2. The return of the blown engine to F1. The sound of JEV's engine letting go was like a good old friend that I haven't seen in years.

Ferrari needs fresh drivers. Bianchi is logical (part of Ferrari's YDA), and Hülkenberg should be considered for his solid consistency (he's 5th in the WDC, which of course, involves Vettel's mishaps, but he's still reasonably ahead of Kimi).
Come on Montezuma, think of the future.

There's going to be a retirement from both current drivers at one point. Kimi might be bored and hang up after 2014, and Alonso has also been in the sport since 2001. Maybe Alonso will stay with Bianchi in 2015, to have his seat for Hulk in 16?

At least it could be said that Alonso has generally consistently delivered for the team and continues to do so - you're right, though, that Alonso is unlikely to be staying on for too many more years, whilst Kimi is both older than Alonso and seemingly struggling a bit more to adapt. I could almost see a situation where Ferrari lose both drivers - Alonso's relationship with the team has soured over consistently inferior cars, whilst I'm not sure I can see Kimi staying for much longer either.

Perhaps Ferrari are in the slightly advantageous position that, right now, Hulkenberg doesn't seem to have any option but to stay put for now - Mercedes aready has a strong driver line up, Red Bull are similarly a closed shop and McLaren seem somewhat scornful of Hulkenberg, whilst uncertainty over their future prospects has already put Hulkenberg off from Lotus.

Still, it does seem to be the case that Ferrari are perhaps relying too heavily on veterans at a time when they need something of a fresh start - yes, they have up and coming drivers like Bianchi and, just below him, Marciello, but there seems to be some resistance to making the final step and putting a driver into their team. I wonder if, perhaps, there is a fear that there could be a repeat of what happened to Perez when he went to McLaren - that the added pressure and demands placed on a young driver who is racing for a major team could prove to be overwhelming, such that they are hesitating on taking that risk?
