I like to think that I have heard of every single driver, but Stephen South is certainly one of the less notable ones in terms of their F1 careers. I do remember that he was quite a promising driver in his day, but his career but cut short by an accident in which he lost his foot.

I once came across his name in the past and just thought, "Who the flipping heck is he?!?!?" That made him kinda memorable straight away.
He didn't manage to qualify for his sole race with McLaren in 1980 and things went south (no pun intended) after that whole foot amputation thing ending his racing career, but its nice to know he still visits historic meetings after the latter.
He actually had a biography released only a couple of weeks ago (it's supposed to be great, actually) and I think someone here (Ataxia?) has been looking at profiling South at some stage. But yeah, he's definitely one of the better drivers with nothing better than a DNQ to his name in F1. Really unfortunate that it was Long Beach where he got his début given how weak McLaren were on street circuits in those days (Watson, a street circuit specialist, only qualified 21st).
I'd hardly call him forgettable though. Solely in terms of having driven in F1, maybe, but among "might-have-beens" like, say, Gonchi Rodríguez or Paul Warwick, absolutely not.

Rio Haryanto and Felipe Nasr. I'd completely forgotten about both of them already.

The possibility of Charles Leclerc gaining a race seat next year has got me thinking, he'll be only the 4th Monagasgue driver in F1 History and only the 3rd to start a race as one of them never qualified, step forward Andre Testut!

Felipe Nasr. I remember his first race, and then Brazil last year. But until I was talking about Manor just earlier today on another thread, I'd forgotten he existed for a few full seasons, no less. Maybe had he won the ROTY award he would have been remembered a little better by the GPRejects community.

This morning I was just randomly looking around Wikipedia on old Grands Prix when I stumbled onto a name I didn't recognize. His name was Arthur Owen. He drove his one and only race at the Italian Grand Prix in 1960 in a privately entered Cooper. Starting 11th out of the 17 drivers, he unfortunately didn't even last a lap before crashing out due to brake failure.
It was also the only event for Americans Fred Gamble, Alfonso Thiele and Italian Piero Drogo, the latter of whom drove an entrant called ScuderiaColonia (no joke).
Remembered that Felipe Nasr exists, and that even now after a full season out in 2017, he's still only 25 years old. That's mad young.

Funnily enough, I forget Giedo van der Garde ever raced in F1 at some points in my life. Sometimes, I remember his Sauber fiasco and think how rude it was of Monisha to rid him of his debut. This is usually followed by an "Oh hang on" moment...

I'll never forget his performance at Canada in 2013, where he I can only assume he was performing a tribute act to all those glorious pre-blue flag backmarkers. Think he managed to take a bit of Webber's front wing off at some point to cap it off.
I keep forgetting that Marcus Ericsson drive for Sauber last year. And that he has remained at the team?

That actually could bring up something interesting, where people forget number two drivers simply because the main driver dominated in their time at the team. Obviously, not to the extent of Dave Walker, because we all remember him for doing bathplug-all while Fittipaldi won the championship, but something similar.
Like, I easily remember Kovalainen for his poor McLaren form, but Fisichella at Renault and, oddly enough, Montoya at McLaren easily pass by me for their relative lack of success compared to Alonso and Raikkonen in those days.

For me, Kovalainen is one of the drivers I honestly forget a lot as far as championship teammates go. Frentzen in 1997 I forget as well.
I think the one for me is maybe Schumacher 1994. Honestly ask any casual F1 fan who Schumacher's teammates were that year, and see if they can name two of them other than Jos Verstappen I can't see it.
On a sad note, I think in time people will think that Red Bull replaced Vettel with Verstappen, and people will forget the season and a bit of Daniil Kvyat in that car. The Russian really did have the worst luck, arriving in the least competitive time of the team's existence this decade.

Def think Kovalainen is up there with the most forgottable F1 winners. I also forget that Seb Boudrais (sp) had a stint in F1.
Coming January 2019 a new F1 book revisiting 1994.
I'll never forget screaming "C'mon Brendon!" from the stands as his car came into retirement on lap two at Silverstone.
Looking at the participants of last season, I totally forgot about Giovinazzi's two-race stint. I remembered Button's one-off, but forgot about di Resta's. In fact, di Resta's stint is maybe the weirdest one-race stint this whole decade if you discount Lotterer or maybe Custard Man

Don't forget - though that's not the point of this thread - Karun Chandhok's spectacular one-off appearance for Fondmetal Team Malaysia. He outqualified both Toro Rossos and a Williams and even dragged that misfiring heap of green and yellow junk to a points position while Heikki Kovalainen was stone dead last...
