It's BBC Proms season and I recommend that as an education, all young folks listen to (or at least have on in the background) Gustav Holst's The Planets as a thorough presentation of what classical music has to offer. :ugeek:

Seconded. All contrary opinions are irrelevant.

On a seperate note I've read this morning that U2 are now so bad they're having to give their new album away. Does anyone else remember when U2 used to be good? It's been a long, long time.

Fifteen months I've waited for this, from the initial announcement to the delivery at 11:13 this morning.

I have a very large hole in my bank account that somehow needs to be repaired. And it's all worth it.

You can hate on Pink Floyd all you want, and think "The Endless River" is Gilmour and Mason trying to cash in on Pink Floyd once more, but this sounds awesome and I can't wait to hear the finished track in it's entirety.

It's another 20th anniversary today, this time it's Suede with their second album, Dog Man Star.

That feeling when in the middle of a mix, the DJ drops a massive tune you can't get enough of that isn't even on general release...BOOOOOOM.

Being the poppunk person on the forum, there hasn't been a lot of quality releases the last decade, but this onelooks very promising.

Mansun - Wide Open Space

Why has it taken me so long to finally listen to this band? I deserve my dunce hat for that.

Suede is what I would call a recent discovery for me (I'm mostly familiar with their hits from the late 90s). I heard many of their songs back when they were new, but for some reason I never really cared about them. A few years ago, I heard Trash for the first time in many years and it became one of my favorites, but I still didn't like their other songs that much. Then suddenly this year, I decided to listen to a few songs from my childhood and for some reason I decided to play a Suede song (I think it was Filmstar). Then I listened to basically all of their hits from that era and really liked them all (even Electricity, which I almost hated before). I guess I should listen to some of their earlier singles as well as the album tracks sometime to see if their other songs are as good. I think the only pre-1996 song I have heard from them is Animal Nitrate (several years ago) and sadly I found it somewhat annoying.

Even though my Suede knowledge is rather limited, I still find it interesting what a few years can do to one's taste in music. Trash belongs in my top four Britpop songs with the three songs I mentioned a long time ago in another post: Disco 2000 by Pulp (my all-time favorite song!), Don't Look Back in Anger by Oasis and Monday Morning 5:19 by Rialto.

I've done it in every other forum I go to (like two now), Twitter and Facebook as well, so I should also do it here.

Interpol's new (September, new enough) record, El Pintor, is so bathplugging good.

As this thing came out the 28th, i can now confirm that it's the first album in its genre in over a decade that's actually worth listening to for people who are not within the genre. (of course not the level of their greatest work in the nineties) The link is not working anymore, though.

For this thread's 1000th post, let's have some action from Mr Mojo Risin and his band. I could listen to the instrumental break of this for hours on end and not tire of it. :D
