I reckon with this system whoever doesn't win this season (out of Ricciardo and Bottas) will win next year. Magnussen will probs have 2016 though :P

Magnussen takes his second career win in Brazil. Second-placed Bottas leads the championship by 13 points from Ricciardo after the Australian suffered a DNF. Kvyat equals his best finish of third.

As Bernie has decided to give double points in Abu Dhabi, a race win will be enough for either contender (Bottas or Ricciardo) to clinch the title.

2014 (After eighteen races):

Bottas 337 (6 wins, 9 2nd, 1 3rd)
Ricciardo 324 (9 wins, 4 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 241 (2 wins, 2 2nd, 5 3rd)
Pérez 188 (1 win, 1 2nd, 5 3rd)
Vergne 154 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Kvyat 146 (2 3rd)
Maldonado 94 (best result: 2 4th)
Sutil 64 (best result: 4th)
Gutiérrez 62 (best result: 3 6th)
Bianchi 47 (1 2nd)

A race win for Bottas in Abu Dhabi gives him the championship in only his second season. Championship runner-up Ricciardo impressively recovers from a pit lane start to second, but it was not enough. Pérez gets another podium as well.

The double points ended up having a surprisingly small impact on the championship, as the only difference they made was Gutiérrez switching places with Sutil who would otherwise have beaten him on countback.

Final results for 2014:

Bottas 387 (7 wins, 9 2nd, 1 3rd)
Ricciardo 360 (9 wins, 5 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 265 (2 wins, 2 2nd, 5 3rd)
Pérez 218 (1 win, 1 2nd, 6 3rd)
Vergne 174 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Kvyat 146 (2 3rd)
Maldonado 94 (best result: 2 4th)
Gutiérrez 78 (best result: 4 6th)
Sutil 76 (best result: 4th)
Bianchi 47 (1 2nd)
Chilton 41 (best result: 5th)
Kobayashi 39 (best result: 4th)
Ericsson 31 (best result: 4th)
Stevens 8 (best result: 8th)
Lotterer 0 (best result: Ret)

That's a really weird result given how far ahead Ricciardo was of Bottas in real life!

Well I guess Ricciardo's wins were already benefiting from Mercedes mishaps, while Bottas was often on the podium behind the Mercedes. So removing the front team would promote Bottas rather than Ricciardo.

That's true. Consistency is key in this championship, as Bottas had just one DNF all year while Ricciardo had two (in addition to being disqualified in Australia). With the champions being removed, even a poor result in real life can often bring a good result here, as long as the driver finishes (the best example is Bottas' 10th place in Brazil becoming 2nd). Both Bottas and Ricciardo only finished off the podium once: Ricciardo was fourth in Austria and Bottas fifth in Singapore.

Daniil Kvyat wins again in Brazil and is very close to clinching the title. Pérez is now 22 points behind so an eighth place in Abu Dhabi will be enough for the Russian to become world champion. Verstappen and Maldonado finish on the podium, ahead of pre-season title favorite Ricciardo, who is now out of contention, and Pérez.

2015 (After eighteen races):

Kvyat 279 (6 wins, 3 2nd, 3 3rd)
Pérez 257 (2 wins, 4 2nd, 5 3rd)
Ricciardo 247 (3 wins, 6 2nd)
Verstappen 198 (2 wins, 3 2nd, 2 3rd)
Nasr 176 (2 wins, 1 3rd)
Ericsson 150 (4 3rd)
Maldonado 144 (3 wins, 1 3rd)
Sainz 136 (2 2nd, 2 3rd)
