I would just do it by WDC position since that's probably what would happen in real life.

Well, in the end, it was my decision, and most of the time it was based on experience or WDC positions, but I did admit where I was biased, which was only for Lewis, Jenson and the Williams team (based on their early season scoring). And for that I do not apologise!

Sorry I haven't updated this sooner. What with watching Minis racing at Brands Hatch (and then driving my own round Brands in a parade (never got above 40 mph, but still a great experience, particularly round Paddock Hill and up toewards Druids!), then giving in my research proposal (my last bit of written work ever at uni! 8-) or :( , I'm still not sure), then laundry and catching some rays with my course mates (and a few lecturers joined in for a short time...), well, you can see how time can go by quite nicely (even caught up with a big pile of laundry!). So here go with some inevitable results...

Spanish GP 2014

Code: Select all

 1.  Lewis Hamilton      25 x 44 = 1100
 5.  Valtteri Bottas     10 x 77 =  770
 6.  Fernando Alonso      8 x 14 =  112
 2.  Nico Rosberg        18 x  6 =  108
 3.  Daniel Ricciardo    15 x  3 =   45
 7.  Kimi Raikkonen       6 x  7 =   42
 8.  Romain Grosjean      4 x  8 =   32
10.  Nico Hulkenberg      1 x 27 =   27
 9.  Sergio Perez         2 x 11 =   22
 4.  Sebastian Vettel    12 x  1 =   12

Surprised that Daniel ended up that high. Hamilton and Bottas = inevitable. C'mon Valterri, you need to be getting some podiums. Gah!

Drivers' Championship

Code: Select all

 1.  Lewis Hamilton   100 x 44 = 4400
 7.  Valtteri Bottas   34 x 77 = 2618
 6.  Nico Hulkenberg   37 x 27 =  999
 3.  Fernando Alonso   49 x 14 =  686
 2.  Nico Rosberg      97 x  6 =  582
 8.  Jenson Button     23 x 22 =  506
 9.  Kevin Magnussen   20 x 20 =  400
12.  Felipe Massa      12 x 19 =  228
10.  Sergio Perez      20 x 11 =  220
11.  Kimi Raikkonen    17 x  7 =  119

Code: Select all

 5.  Daniel Ricciardo  39 x  3 =  117
14.  Jean-Eric Vergne   4 x 25 =  100
15.  Daniil Kvyat       4 x 26 =  104
 4.  Sebastian Vettel  45 x  1 =   45
13.  Romain Grosjean    4 x  8 =   32

A tight battle between Raikkonen and Ricciardo, plus between Vergne and Kvyat. Makes up for the deficit in competitiveness between Hamilton and Bottas. Maybe it may have seemed better if Sutil were scoring decent points? :( And in any other previous season, Bottas would have scored enough now to be champion, but alas! And the incredible Hulk is just one point away from 1000! (although, of course, here he can only score in multiples of 27!).

And I work out the Constructors' some other time - gotta go and eat then off to a church group for this evening!

Nobody has yet pointed out the "deliberate" error in the post above (clue: it involves the two Toro Rosso drivers...).

Anyway, as promised, the current Constructors' Championship:

Code: Select all

Mercedes      4400 + 582 = 4982
Williams      2618 + 228 = 2846
Force India    999 + 220 = 1219
McLaren        506 + 400 =  906
Ferrari        686 + 119 =  805
Toro Rosso     104 + 100 =  204
Red Bull       117 +  45 =  162
Lotus           32 +   0 =   32

Williams in second!
Force India in third!
McLaren ahead of Ferrari!
Toro Rosso ahead of Red Bull!
Lotus scores!

I saw it, but it just looked like a boring typo, nothing you can really say anything about.

Yeah, I probably would have ignored too in hindsight...

Yay! Marussia finally get onto the score board here! Still last of the point-scorers as in reality, but ahead of the non-scorers Sauber and Caterham (whose owner is an alumnus of my boarding school...).

2014 Grand Prix de Monaco

Code: Select all

 2.  Lewis Hamilton     18 x 44 = 792
 5.  Nico Hulkenberg    10 x 27 = 270
 6.  Jenson Button       8 x 22 = 176
 4.  Fernando Alonso    12 x 14 = 168
 1.  Nico Rosberg       25 x  6 = 150
 7.  Felipe Massa        6 x 19 = 114
 3.  Daniel Ricciardo   15 x  3 =  45
 9.  Jules Bianchi       2 x 17 =  34
 8.  Romain Grosjean     4 x  8 =  32
10.  Kevin Magnussen     1 x 20 =  20

Jules Bianchi is back into 8th place here, just as he was "on the road." Another massive points haul for Mr Hamilton. And Jenson on the podium!

Code: Select all

 2.  Lewis Hamilton    118 x 44 = 5192
 7.  Valtteri Bottas    34 x 77 = 2618
 5.  Nico Hulkenberg    47 x 27 = 1269
 3.  Fernando Alonso    61 x 14 =  854
 1.  Nico Rosberg      122 x  6 =  732
 8.  Jenson Button      31 x 22 =  682
 9.  Kevin Magnussen    21 x 20 =  420
11.  Felipe Massa       18 x 19 =  342
10.  Sergio Perez       20 x 11 =  220
 4.  Daniel Ricciardo   54 x  3 =  162

Code: Select all

12.  Kimi Raikkonen     17 x  7 =  119
15.  Daniil Kvyat        4 x 26 =  104
14.  Jean-Eric Vergne    4 x 25 =  100
13.  Romain Grosjean     8 x  8 =   64
 6.  Sebastian Vettel   45 x  1 =   45
16.  Jules Bianchi       2 x 17 =   34

So Lewis now has double that of Valterri, who has double that of the Hulk. And had Jules been in 8th rather than 9th here in Monaco, he would have been ahead of both Vettel and Grosjean in the Drivers' Championship!

Code: Select all

Mercedes    5192 + 732 = 5924
Williams    2618 + 342 = 2960
Force India 1269 + 220 = 1489
McLaren      682 + 420 = 1102
Ferrari      854 + 119 =  973
Red Bull     162 +  45 =  207
Toro Rosso   104 + 100 =  204
Lotus                      64
Marussia                   34

That 5 second penalty for Bianchi has put Marussia behind Lotus! And a tight battle between the two Red Bull teams. McLaren have fallen a long way back since Melbourne, while Williams are clinging on in there.

2014 Grand Prix du Canada

Code: Select all

 7. Valtteri Bottas    6 x 77 = 462
 5. Nico Hulkenberg   10 x 27 = 270
 4. Jenson Button     12 x 22 = 264
 6. Fernando Alonso    8 x 14 = 112
 2. Nico Rosberg      18 x  6 = 108
 8. Jean-Eric Vergne   4 x 25 = 100
 1. Daniel Ricciardo  25 x  3 =  75
 9. Kevin Magnussen    2 x 20 =  40
 3. Sebastian Vettel  15 x  1 =  15
10. Kimi Raikkonen     1 x  7 =   7

So Bottas scores the most points here, but could have done much, much better to close the gap to Hamilton in the WDC. Own goal. And a podium for Jenson. :D

WDC

Code: Select all

 2. Lewis Hamilton    118 x 44 = 5192
 8. Valtteri Bottas    40 x 77 = 3080
 6. Nico Hulkenberg    57 x 27 = 1539
 4. Fernando Alonso    69 x 14 =  966
 7. Jenson Button      43 x 22 =  946
 1. Nico Rosberg      140 x  6 =  840
 9. Kevin Magnussen    23 x 20 =  460
11. Felipe Massa       18 x 19 =  342
 3. Daniel Ricciardo   79 x  3 =  237
10. Sergio Perez       20 x 11 =  220

Code: Select all

14. Jean-Eric Vergne    8 x 25 =  200
12. Kimi Raikkonen     18 x  7 =  126
15. Daniil Kvyat        4 x 26 =  104
13. Romain Grosjean     8 x  8 =   64
 5. Sebastian Vettel   60 x  1 =   60
16. Jules Bianchi       2 x 17 =   34

Jenson and Fernando likely to make it to 1000 points in the next race or two. It's now close between Ricciardo, Perez and Vergne. And think how much closer to Lewis Bottas might have been if Wiiliams had had better strategy this year... And Vettel is second-last of points-scorers!

Oh, and here's the WCC:

Code: Select all

Mercedes     5192 + 840 = 6032
Williams     3080 + 342 = 3422
Force India  1539 + 220 = 1759
McLaren       946 + 460 = 1406
Ferrari       966 + 126 = 1092
Toro Rosso    200 + 104 =  307
Red Bull      237 +  60 =  297
Lotus                       64
Marussia                    34

Toro Rosso move ahead of Red Bull, despite Ricciardo being first across the line! Otherwise not a lot changes. Williams close up a bit, but will need to seriously improve their strategy to win this.

2014 Red Bull Grand Prix of Austria in which only a quarter of the Red Bull cars score - 8-)

Code: Select all

 3. Valtteri Bottas   15 x 77 = 1155
 2. Lewis Hamilton    18 x 44 =  792
 4. Felipe Massa      12 x 19 =  228
 1. Nico Rosberg      25 x  6 =  150
 5. Fernando Alonso   10 x 14 =  140
 7. Kevin Magnussen    6 x 20 =  120
 6. Sergio Perez       8 x 11 =   88
 9. Nico Hulkenberg    2 x 27 =   54
 8. Daniel Ricciardo   4 x  3 =   12
10. Kimi Raikkonen     1 x  7 =    7

Valterri has his third win of the year, his first in a country where HRH Queen Elizabeth II is not head of state! And two Williams on the podium. :D

WDC

Code: Select all

 2. Lewis Hamilton    136 x 44 = 5984
 7. Valtteri Bottas    55 x 77 = 4235
 6. Nico Hulkenberg    59 x 27 = 1593
 4. Fernando Alonso    79 x 14 = 1106
 1. Nico Rosberg      165 x  6 =  990
 8. Jenson Button      43 x 22 =  946
10. Kevin Magnussen    29 x 20 =  580
 9. Felipe Massa       30 x 19 =  570
11. Sergio Perez       28 x 11 =  308
 3. Daniel Ricciardo   83 x  3 =  249

Code: Select all

14. Jean-Eric Vergne    8 x 25 =  200
12. Kimi Raikkonen     19 x  7 =  133
15. Daniil Kvyat        4 x 26 =  104
13. Romain Grosjean     8 x  8 =   64
 5. Sebastian Vettel   60 x  1 =   60
16. Jules Bianchi       2 x 17 =   34

And Bottas is now upto 70.7% of Lewis's total - can he continue to claw back the deficit in the coming races? I sure hope so! We now have 4 drivers over 1000 points, with a further two not far away.

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes    5984 + 990 = 6974
Williams    4235 + 570 = 4805
Force India 1593 + 308 = 1901
McLaren      946 + 580 = 1526
Ferrari     1106 + 133 = 1239
Red Bull     249 +  60 =  309
Toro Rosso   200 + 104 =  304
Lotus                      60
Marussia                   34

Interesting to note the large disparencies between teammates' points scores here, with the two McLaren drivers being proportionally closest, and the only two to be adjacent to each other in the WDC points table...

2014 British Grand Prix

Code: Select all

 2. Valtteri Bottas    18 x 77 = 1386
 1. Lewis Hamilton     25 x 44 = 1100
 4. Jenson Button      12 x 22 =  264
 7. Kevin Magnussen     6 x 20 =  120
 6. Fernando Alonso     8 x 14 =  112
 8. Nico Hulkenberg     4 x 27 =  108
 9. Daniil Kvyat        2 x 26 =   52
 3. Daniel Ricciardo   15 x  3 =   45
10. Jean-Eric Vergne    1 x 25 =   25
 5. Sebastian Vettel   10 x  1 =   10

Bo77as again scores a few hundred more than Lewis to close a bit further up in the championship, but not by as much as in Austria. And they score significantly more than any other driver.

WDC

Code: Select all

 2. Lewis Hamilton    161 x 44 = 7084
 5. Valtteri Bottas    73 x 77 = 5621
 7. Nico Hulkenberg    63 x 27 = 1701
 4. Fernando Alonso    87 x 14 = 1218
 8. Jenson Button      55 x 22 = 1210
 1. Nico Rosberg      165 x  6 =  990
 9. Kevin Magnussen    35 x 20 =  700
10. Felipe Massa       30 x 19 =  570

Code: Select all

11. Sergio Perez       28 x 11 =  308
 3. Daniel Ricciardo   98 x  3 =  294
13. Jean-Eric Vergne    9 x 25 =  225
15. Daniil Kvyat        6 x 26 =  156
12. Kimi Raikkonen     19 x  7 =  133
 6. Sebastian Vettel   70 x  1 =   70
14. Romain Grosjean     8 x  8 =   64
16. Jules Bianchi       2 x 17 =   34

Hamilton and Bo77as have a significant advantage and are likely to be the top-two this year in this championship. Even if Sutil were to start winning this year, he would only be scoring 2475 points per win, so would need a lot of luck... But Bo77as still has a chance. However, there's still a close battle between Alonso, Button and Rosberg.

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes     7084 + 990 = 8074
Williams     5621 + 570 = 6191
Force India  1701 + 308 = 2009
McLaren      1210 + 700 = 1910
Ferrari      1218 + 133 = 1351
Toro Rosso    225 + 156 =  381
Red Bull      294 +  70 =  364
Lotus                       64
Marussia                    34

A run-away advantage for Mercedes and Williams (thanks to their "number one" drivers); and close between Force India and McLaren, plus between the two Red Bull teams. Maybe not so close between Lotus and Marussia, given how unlikely it is for Marussia to score again (although Lotus does not look likely to score either...).

And I am unlikely to update this again until around the Italian GP in September, given being on uni placement from tomorrow until 29th August.

OK, so I have found the time to update this today...

2014 German GP

Code: Select all

 2. Valtteri Bottas    18 x 77 = 1386
 3. Lewis Hamilton     15 x 44 =  660
 7. Nico Hulkenberg     6 x 27 =  162
 1. Nico Rosberg       25 x  6 =  150
 5. Fernando Alonso    10 x 14 =  140
 8. Jenson Button       4 x 22 =   88
 9. Kevin Magnussen     2 x 20 =   40
 6. Daniel Ricciardo    8 x  3 =   24
 4. Sebastian Vettel   12 x  1 =   12
10. Sergio Perez        1 x 11 =   11

Bo77as wins again, and only he and Lewis score really significant points. Again.

WDC

Code: Select all

 2. Lewis Hamilton      176 x 44 = 7744
 5. Valtteri Bottas      91 x 77 = 7007
 7. Nico Hülkenberg      69 x 27 = 1863
 4. Fernando Alonso      97 x 14 = 1358
 8. Jenson Button        59 x 22 = 1298
 1. Nico Rosberg        190 x  6 = 1140
 9. Kevin Magnussen      37 x 20 =  740
10. Felipe Massa         30 x 19 =  570

Code: Select all

11. Sergio Pérez         29 x 11 =  319
 3. Daniel Ricciardo    106 x  3 =  318
13. Jean-Éric Vergne      9 x 25 =  225
15. Daniil Kvyat          6 x 26 =  156
12. Kimi Räikkönen       19 x  7 =  133
 6. Sebastian Vettel     82 x  1 =   82
14. Romain Grosjean       8 x  8 =   64
16. Jules Bianchi         2 x 17 =   34

Bottas is now significantly closing in on Lewis. From only having approximately (!!!) half the points of Lewis a few races ago, Valterri could easily overhaul Lewis in the next few races. And Perez and Ricciardo are only a point apart.

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes    7744 + 1140 = 8884
Williams    7007 +  570 = 7577
Force India 1863 +  319 = 2182
McLaren     1298 +  740 = 2038
Ferrari     1358 +  133 = 1491
Red Bull     318 +   82 =  400
Toro Rosso   225 +  156 =  381
Lotus                       64
Marussia                    34

Mercedes probably have become the first team ever to have both drivers score over 1000 points within the same season. If Massa had been able to score in the last two races, could Williams have been within 1000 points of Mercedes? Quite possibly... And Mercedes-powered teams fill places 1, 2, 3 and 4!

Bottas would be winning this by a mile if the old number system had stayed - he would have car 18 or 19, and everyone ahead or close behind him in the championship would have 1 - 5. His closest threat would probably be the Hulk with number 11 or 12.

The penultimate post of the last page would confirm that this would be the case after the Chinese GP, and, if I had the time to recalculate, I would indeed suspect that it would continue to be as you say. Maybe I'll try recalculating in September using the possible other car numbers...

Just had to update the car numbers list in the middle of the last page to include Lotterer. And while doing so, I realised that I had left Max Chilton off the list!!!

Anyway, here is the list again, with Friday FP1 drivers as well.

Magnussen and Button were very close to each other in this championship at one point, but Button has gained a bit of an advantage in recent races.

WCC

Mercedes     8404 + 1212 = 9616
Williams     7315 +  760 = 8075
Force India  1863 +  319 = 2182

10. Nico Hulkenberg    1 x 27 =   27
 5. Sebastian Vettel  10 x  1 =   10

A massive win for Bottas. And a rare event - two teammates score the same number of points for this race! (I placed Raikkonen ahead here simply because he actually finished ahead on the road.)

WDC

Code: Select all

 5.  Valtteri Bottas    110 x 77 = 8470
 2.  Lewis Hamilton     191 x 44 = 8404

14.  Romain Grosjean      8 x  8 =   64
16.  Jules Bianchi        2 x 17 =   34

OH. MY. GOODNESS!!! Bottas has now taken the lead from Lewis, with many thanks to Nico Rosberg! Nico cost Lewis the lead in the Drivers' Championship! I'm loving it, loving it, loving it...

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes    1320 + 8404 = 9720
Williams    8470 +  760 = 9230
McLaren     1496 +  740 = 2236
Force India 1890 +  319 = 2209
Ferrari     1694 +  273 = 1967
Red Bull     468 +   98 =  566
Toro Rosso   275 +  156 =  431
Lotus                       64

McLaren move up to third - :D . Williams are not in the lead here yet - I blame Felipe.

Re: Car numbers alternative championship

Post by dr-baker »

Just realised I haven't updated this for Monza yet, so....

Code: Select all

1 Lewis Hamilton     25 x 44 = 1100
4 Valtteri Bottas    12 x 77 =  924
3 Felipe Massa       15 x 19 =  285
2 Nico Rosberg       18 x  6 =  108
8 Jenson Button       4 x 22 =   88
7 Sergio Perez        6 x 11 =   66
5 Daniel Ricciardo   10 x  3 =   33
10 Kevin Magnussen    1 x 20 =   20
9 Kimi Raikkonen      2 x  7 =   14
6 Sebastian Vettel    8 x  1 =    8

Inevitable that Bottas and Hamilton dominate while Vettel does not.

Code: Select all

 2 Lewis Hamilton   216 x 44 = 9504
 4 Valtteri Bottas  122 x 77 = 9394
 8 Nico Hulkenberg   70 x 27 = 1890
 5 Fernando Alonso  121 x 14 = 1694
 7 Jenson Button     72 x 22 = 1584
 1 Nico Rosberg     238 x  6 = 1428
 9 Felipe Massa      55 x 19 = 1045
12 Kevin Magnussen   38 x 20 =  760
 3 Daniel Ricciardo 166 x  3 =  498
11 Sergio Perez      39 x 11 =  426

Code: Select all

10 Kimi Raikkonen    41 x  7 =  287
13 Jean-Eric Vergne  11 x 25 =  275
15 Daniil Kvyat       8 x 26 =  208
 6 Sebastian Vettel 106 x  1 =  106
14 Romain Grosjean    8 x  8 =   64
16 Jules Bianchi      2 x 17 =   34

Bottas loses the lead of this alternative championship. Easy come, easy go. Won't be long until both he and Lewis exceed 10,000 points. And being around three-quarters through the season, it looks likely that Hulkenberg, Alonso, Button and possibly Rosberg will all exceed 2000 points which, in any other season, would likely have got them the championship here.

Code: Select all

Mercedes     9504 + 1428 = 10932
Williams     9394 + 1045 = 10439
McLaren      1584 +  760 =  2344
Force India  1890 +  426 =  2316
Ferrari      1694 +  287 =  1981
Red Bull      498 +  106 =   604
Toro Rosso    275 +  208 =   483
Lotus                         64
Marussia                      34

In the same race, both Williams and Mercedes exceed 10,000 points within a season for the first time. A close battle between McLaren and Force India, and the four Mercedes teams remain the dominant 4 teams overall.

Singapore 2014

Code: Select all

 1 Lewis Hamilton    25 x 44 = 1100
 6 Jean-Eric Vergne   8 x 25 =  200
 5 Felipe Massa      10 x 19 =  190
 4 Fernando Alonso   12 x 14 =  168
 7 Sergio Perez       6 x 11 =   66
 9 Nico Hulkenberg    2 x 27 =   54
 3 Daniel Ricciardo  15 x  3 =   45
 8 Kimi Raikkonen     4 x  7 =   28
10 Kevin Magnussen    1 x 20 =   20
 2 Sebastian Vettel  18 x  1 =   18

Vergne does well, only just beating Massa.

WDC

Code: Select all

1 Lewis Hamilton    241 x 44 = 10604
6 Valtteri Bottas   122 x 77 =  9394
8 Nico Hulkenberg    72 x 27 =  1944
4 Fernando Alonso   133 x 14 =  1862
7 Jenson Button      72 x 22 =  1584
2 Nico Rosberg      238 x  6 =  1428
9 Felipe Massa       65 x 19 =  1235
12 Kevin Magnussen   39 x 20 =   780

Code: Select all

3 Daniel Ricciardo  181 x  3 =   543
10 Sergio Perez      45 x 11 =   495
13 Jean-Eric Vergne  19 x 25 =   475
11 Kimi Raikkonen    45 x  7 =   315
15 Daniil Kvyat       8 x 26 =   204
5 Sebastian Vettel  124 x  1 =   124
14 Romain Grosjean    8 x  8 =    64
16 Jules Bianchi      2 x 17 =    34

Bottas is clearly the only rival to Lewis now, but his Singapore result hasn't helped here. A few (real-life) podiums will be required now to see Lewis now win this.

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes    10604 + 1428 = 12032
Williams     9394 + 1235 = 10629
Force India  1944 +  495 =  2439
McLaren      1584 +  780 =  2364
Ferrari      1862 +  315 =  2177
Toro Rosso    475 +  204 =   679
Red Bull      543 +  124 =   667
Lotus                         64
Marussia                      34

With Bottas not scoring in Singapore has given Mercedes an advantage. A close 3-way battle for 3rd/4th/5th and Toro Rosso is ahead of Red Bull!

Red Bull      579 +  139 =   718
Lotus                         64

Brazilian Grand Prix

 3 Felipe Massa     15 x 19 =  285
 4 Jenson Button    12 x 22 =  264
 1 Nico Rosberg     25 x  6 =  150
 6 Fernando Alonso   8 x 14 =  112

 9 Kevin Magnussen   2 x 20 =   40
 5 Sebastian Vettel 10 x  1 =   10

Current WDC

Code: Select all

 1 Lewis Hamilton    334 x 44 = 14696
 6 Valtteri Bottas   156 x 77 = 12012
 7 Jenson Button     106 x 22 =  2332
 5 Fernando Alonso   157 x 14 =  2198

14 Romain Grosjean     8 x  8 =    64
17 Jules Bianchi       2 x 17 =    34
16 Pastor Maldonado    2 x 13 =    26

Jules Bianchi is no longer the last of the points scorers. Valterri Bottas still has a chance, but only thanks to double-points. He would need either a first or second to win, with Lewis failing to score (well, Lewis would certainly need to be 9th or lower, but that isn't likely, is it?). The previous highest total for a championship win was 2156, scored by Lewis in 2008. Well, we now have 5 drivers above that, with Rosberg and Massa potentially also overhauling that in Abu Dhabi. Oh, and two British drivers in the top-3, with the other being a Williams driver. This makes me :D .

Double-points will be used in Abu Dhabi in this championship, but clearly regular car numbers retained. Always I will multiply the actual number of points scored by the actual car number used.

Final race of 2014 - the double points Abu Dhabi GP

Code: Select all

3 Valtteri Bottas    15 x 2 x 77 = 2310
1 Lewis Hamilton     25 x 2 x 44 = 2200
2 Felipe Massa       18 x 2 x 19 =  684
5 Jenson Button      10 x 2 x 22 =  440
6 Nico Hulkenberg     8 x 2 x 27 =  432
7 Sergio Perez        6 x 2 x 11 =  132
4 Daniel Ricciardo   12 x 2 x  3 =   72
9 Fernando Alonso     2 x 2 x 14 =   56
10 Kimi Raikkonen     1 x 2 x  7 =   14
8 Sebastian Vettel    4 x 2 x  1 =    8

Bottas would have required Lewis to have DNFed from the lead to have won this title: Valterri would then have moved from 3rd to 2nd and have scored just enough points to win.

WDC

Code: Select all

1 Lewis Hamilton    384 x 44 = 16896
4 Valtteri Bottas   186 x 77 = 14322
8 Jenson Button     126 x 22 =  2771
9 Nico Hulkenberg    96 x 27 =  2592
7 Felipe Massa      134 x 19 =  2546
6 Fernando Alonso   161 x 14 =  2254
2 Nico Rosberg      317 x  6 =  1902
11 Kevin Magnussen   55 x 20 =  1100

Code: Select all

3 Daniel Ricciardo  238 x  3 =   714
10 Sergio Perez      59 x 11 =   649
13 Jean-Eric Vergne  22 x 25 =   550
12 Kimi Raikkonen    55 x  7 =   385
15 Daniil Kvyat       8 x 26 =   208
5 Sebastian Vettel  167 x  1 =   167
14 Romain Grosjean    8 x  8 =    64
17 Jules Bianchi      2 x 17 =    34
16 Pastor Maldonado   2 x 13 =    26

(5 Sebastian Vettel 167 x  5 =   837)

Had Vettel raced with the number 5, he would have gained about 5 positions in the drivers' championship. However Red Bull would not have gained any further positions in the Constructors' Championship. 6 drivers this year beat the record for most points in a season, and Rosberg wasn't far off - he would probably have done it if he had had a podium in Abu Dhabi, likely until his mechanical gremlins struck. If Adrian Sutil had miraculously won in Abu Dhabi, he would have scored 4950 points and thus finished a distant 3rd.

Code: Select all

Mercedes    16896 + 1902 = 18798
Williams    14322 + 2546 = 16868
McLaren      2771 + 1100 =  3871
Force India  2592 +  649 =  3241
Ferrari      2254 +  385 =  2639
Red Bull      714 +  167 =   881
Toro Rosso    550 +  208 =   758
Lotus          64 +   26 =    90
Marussia                      34

No real surprises here. Good for Williams and McLaren.

Car numbers for the 2015 season

Code: Select all

 3 Daniel Ricciardo
 5 Sebastian Vettel
 6 Nico Rosberg
 7 Kimi Raikkonen
 8 Romain Grosjean
 9 Marcus Ericsson
11 Sergio Perez
12 Felipe Nasr
13 Pastor Maldonado
14 Fernando Alonso

Code: Select all

19 Felipe Massa
20 Kevin Magnussen
22 Jenson Button
26 Daniil Kyvat
27 Nico Hulkenberg
28 Will Stevens
33 Max Verstappen
44 Lewis Hamilton
55 Carlos Sainz Jnr
77 Valterri Bottas
98 Roberto Merhi

Every number from 3 to 14 is taken, apart from 4 and 10. 2 is obviously also free. Palindrome 2-digit numbers are popular as well, with drivers taking 11, 22, 33, 44, 55 and 77. (Of course, last year, 99 was also taken by Sutil, who does not have a drive yet and whose number can not yet be reallocated. Looks like this may have been the number Merhi may have gone for had it been available.)

Predictions? I reckon it'll be between Lewis and Valterri again. And Toro Rosso likely to improve upon last year. Plus, if Manor were to score again, I hope it'll be with Merhi!

I think I worked out the tallies of 2014 if the 1996 - 2013 numbering system had continued and Bottas absolutely walked it (with Massa the only challenger).

If that continued this year, I make these would be the numbers:

1 Hamilton
2 Rosberg

3 Ricciardo
4 Kvyat

5 Bottas
6 Massa

7 Raikkonen
8 Vettel

9 Button
10 Alonso/Magnussen

11 Perez
12 Hulkenberg

14 Verstappen
15 Sainz

16 Grosjean
17 Maldonado

18 Stevens
19 Merhi

20 Ericsson
21 Nasr

With Ferrari and McLaren I'm giving the incumbent the lower number which usually happened with those teams (I'm think Massa having 7 and Alonso 8 in 2010). Force India I'm not sure about but reckon Perez would be given his lucky number. Toro Rosso I'm guessing Verstappen gets the lower number by dint of being signed first.

2015 Australian Grand Prix

Code: Select all

1. Lewis Hamilton     25 x 44 = 1100
4. Felipe Massa       12 x 19 =  228
7. Nico Hulkenberg     6 x 27 =  162
5. Felipe Nasr        10 x 12 =  120
9. Carlos Sainz Jnr    2 x 55 =  110
2. Nico Rosberg       18 x  6 =  108
3. Sebastian Vettel   15 x  5 =   75
8. Marcus Ericcson     4 x  9 =   36
6. Daniel Ricciardo    8 x  3 =   24
10 Sergio Perez        1 x 11 =   11

With Lewis choosing to ditch with tradition and not run with number 1, this season is looking likely to be a season of domination. It's a great shame that Bottas is currently injured he's likely to be the only driver to pose a challenge to Lewis in this championship again. Of course, with number 1, Lewis would have scored 25 points here, and the championship would likely be a Williams-dominated championship.

Code: Select all

Mercedes    1100 + 108 = 1208
Williams                  228
Force India  162 +  11 =  173
Sauber       120 +  36 =  156
Toro Rosso                110
Ferrari                    75
Red Bull                   24

James1978, do you think you might post your calculated results for last year, using the alternative numbering system? Thank you!

OK I re-worked it out, there may be some debate about which way round some of the team's numbers would have gone, here goes (I gave the driver his "chosen" number if it falls within the team's allocation):

1. Bottas 186 * 18 = 3348
2. Massa 134 * 19 = 2546
3. Hamilton 384 * 4 = 1536
4. Hulkenberg 96 * 12 = 1152
5. Button 126 * 9 = 1134
6. Rosberg 317 * 3 = 951
7. Alonso 161 * 5 = 805
8. Perez 59 * 11 = 649
9. Magnussen 55 * 10 = 550
10. Ricciardo 238 * 2 = 476
11. Vergne 22 * 16 = 352
12. Raikkonen 55 * 6 = 330
13. Vettel 167 * 1 = 167 :)
14. Kvyat 8 * 17 = 136
15. Grosjean 8 * 8 = 64
16. Bianchi 2 * 20 = 40
17. Maldonado 2 * 7 = 14

It's debatable whether some team numbers may have been reversed but Bottas wins easily even with the lower Williams number! Reversing the Mercedes numbers would have had Rosberg 3rd overall with 1268 and Hamilton tied on 1152 with The Hulk.

So it would have been a significantly record-breaking year in terms of final points score with either car numbering system! Bottas would hava had more than 1000 points than the previous records, when Jenson and Lewis had car number 22, plus more than when Senna had number 27...

Malaysian Grand Prix 2015

Code: Select all

2. Hamilton   18 x 44 = 792
5. Bottas     10 x 77 = 770
8. Sainz       4 x 55 = 220
7. Verstappen  6 x 33 = 198
6. Massa       8 x 19 = 152
1. Vettel     25 x  5 = 125
3. Rosberg    15 x  6 =  90
4. Raikkonen  12 x  7 =  84
9. Kvyat       2 x 26 =  52
10 Ricciardo   1 x  3 =   3

As per last year, Bottas is likely to be Lewis's closest competitor, but nobody has yet outscored Lewis this year. Which means...

Code: Select all

1  Lewis Hamilton   43 x 44 = 1892
7  Valtteri Bottas  10 x 77 =  770
4  Felipe Massa     20 x 19 =  380
11 Carlos Sainz      6 x 55 =  220
2  Sebastian Vettel 40 x  5 =  200
3  Nico Rosberg     33 x  6 =  198
10 Max Verstappen    6 x 33 =  198
9  Nico Hulkenberg   6 x 27 =  162
6  Felipe Nasr      10 x 12 =  120
5  Kimi Raikkonen   12 x  7 =   84
13 Daniil Kvyat      2 x 26 =   52
12 Marcus Ericsson   4 x  9 =   36
8  Daniel Ricciardo  9 x  3 =   27
14 Sergio Perez      1 x 11 =   11

...Lewis already has a comfortable advantage, while Valterri jumps straight into 2nd after his first race start of the year.

Code: Select all

Mercedes   1892 + 198 = 2090
Williams    770 + 380 = 1150
Toro Rosso  220 + 198 =  418
Ferrari     200 +  84 =  284
Force India 162 +  11 =  173
Sauber      120 +  36 =  156
Red Bull     52 +  27 =   79

Likely to be a good year for Toro Rosso if they can maintain consistent points-scoring results.

For this championship, I'm glad the number system changed, as Vettel would have had #8 quite ominously......

Because he'd win with his number being relatively high for having scored a 3rd and a win so far.....

Any teams with higher number are struggling relatively - well I guess Nasr would have got 210 points for Oz compared to Vettel's 200 for Malaysia but doubt Nasr could keep that up.......

Oh hang on, I was thinking Vettel having 8, while everybody retains their current numbers. But no. Hamilton would have 1, Bottas would be 5 or 6, Rosberg 2, etc. So with everybody (not just Vettel as I read it) under the old system, then that would be true.

Oh, c'mon Valterri. You're the only realistic challenger to Lewis (and with every best wish in the world, I cannot see Merhi or Sutil providing a consistent challenge even if they were in a decent team).

10 Fernando Alonso     1 x 14 =   14

So there were a couple of races where Bottas out-scored Hamilton, but overall over these 5 races, Hamilton has extended his advantage. And didn't Kyvat do well in Monaco?! Plus Canada is one of those rare occasions where two drivers score the same points total in the same race.

WDC

Code: Select all

 1 Lewis Hamilton   194 x 44 = 8536
 4 Valtteri Bottas   77 x 77 = 5929
 6 Felipe Massa      74 x 19 = 1406
 2 Nico Rosberg     177 x  6 = 1062
 8 Daniil Kvyat      27 x 26 =  702
 3 Sebastian Vettel 135 x  5 =  675
 9 Nico Hulkenberg   24 x 27 =  648
 5 Kimi Raikkonen    76 x  7 =  532
15 Carlos Sainz       9 x 55 =  495
14 Max Verstappen    10 x 33 =  330

Code: Select all

11 Felipe Nasr       16 x 12 =  192
12 Sergio Perez      15 x 11 =  165
13 Pastor Maldonado  12 x 13 =  156
10 Romain Grosjean   17 x  8 =  136
 7 Daniel Ricciardo  36 x  3 =  108
17 Jenson Button      4 x 22 =   88
16 Marcus Ericsson    5 x  9 =   45
18 Fernando Alonso    1 x 14 =   14

So, even if Hamilton ran with car number 1 and fell to about 10th in this championship, Bottas would still have a big advantage and this championship would not be competitive at the top.

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes    8536 + 1062 = 9598
Williams    5929 + 1406 = 7335
Ferrari      675 +  532 = 1207
Toro Rosso   495 +  330 =  825
Force India  648 +  165 =  813
Red Bull     702 +  108 =  810
Lotus        156 +  136 =  292
Sauber       192 +   45 =  237
McLaren       88 +   14 =  102

Toro Rosso are ahead of Red Bull! But only by 15 points! And Force India are between them! ...And there endeth the interest I reckon. Sorry.

Re: Jules Bianchi car number alt. championship

Post by dr-baker »

Some guys name their alernative championships after somebody significant within their alternative universe. For example, I could have named this championship after George Amick, who finished second in the 1958 Indy 500, and was enough to win that year's F1 title. But with the FIA retiring Jules Bianchi's career car number, it seems somehow appropriate that this championship is named after the first driver to have his number retired.

Hungarian Grand Prix 2015

Code: Select all

2 Daniil Kvyat     18 x 26 = 468
4 Max Verstappen   12 x 33 = 396
6 Lewis Hamilton    8 x 44 = 352
5 Fernando Alonso  10 x 14 = 140
1 Sebastian Vettel 25 x  5 = 125
7 Romain Grosjean   6 x  8 =  48
3 Daniel Ricciardo 15 x  3 =  45
9 Jenson Button     2 x 22 =  44
8 Nico Rosberg      4 x  6 =  24
10 Marcus Ericsson  1 x  9 =   9

Bottas had a brilliant opportunity to outscore Lewis this race and close up the championship, but alas! And Kvyat wins! Looking back in this thread, Petrov won in Australia 2011 and equal first with Button in Canada 2011, so not the first Russian to win in this alternative universe, but it's another new winner nonetheless.

WDC

Code: Select all

1  Lewis Hamilton   202 x 44 = 8888
4  Valtteri Bottas   77 x 77 = 5929
6  Felipe Massa      74 x 19 = 1406
8  Daniil Kvyat      45 x 26 = 1170
2  Nico Rosberg     181 x  6 = 1086
3  Sebastian Vettel 160 x  5 =  800
11 Max Verstappen    22 x 33 =  726
9  Nico Hulkenberg   24 x 27 =  648
5  Kimi Raikkonen    76 x  7 =  532
16 Carlos Sainz       9 x 55 =  495

Code: Select all

12 Felipe Nasr       16 x 12 =  192
10 Romain Grosjean   23 x  8 =  184
13 Sergio Perez      15 x 11 =  165
14 Pastor Maldonado  12 x 13 =  156
15 Fernando Alonso   11 x 14 =  154
7  Daniel Ricciardo  51 x  3 =  153
17 Jenson Button      6 x 22 =  132
18 Marcus Ericsson    6 x  9 =   54

It's competitive between Maldonado, Alonso and Ricciardo, with Perez and Button also close by. Much more interesting that the battle for the title...

Hungarian Grand Prix 2015

Code: Select all

Mercedes   8888 + 1086 = 9974
Williams   5929 + 1406 = 7335
Ferrari     800 +  532 = 1332
Red Bull   1170 +  153 = 1323
Toro Rosso  726 +  495 = 1221
Force India 648 +  165 =  813
Lotus       184 +  156 =  340
McLaren     154 +  132 =  286
Sauber      192 +   54 =  246

It is now close between Toro Rosso, Ferrari and Red Bull thanks to the results of today's race, leaving Force India behind. McLaren overhaul Sauber!

Shouldn't Ricciardo only have 45 points? Because his car number is 3, not 5.

And with that, Daniel loses a place in the race results...

Thanks for pointing the mistake out. I appreciate that people are paying attention to this!

Sorry for not updating this before, distracted by real life (FE testing, Rockingham 100, etc.).

Belgian GP 2015

Code: Select all

1 Lewis Hamilton   25 x 44 = 1100
4 Daniil Kvyat     12 x 26 =  312
9 Valtteri Bottas   2 x 77 =  154
6 Felipe Massa      8 x 19 =  152
8 Max Verstappen    4 x 33 =  132
3 Romain Grosjean  15 x  8 =  120
5 Sergio Perez     10 x 11 =  110
2 Nico Rosberg     18 x  6 =  108
7 Kimi Raikkonen    6 x  7 =   42
10 Marcus Ericsson  1 x  9 =    9

Another dominant victory for Hamilton. Another decent result for Kvyat. Grosjean's choice of car number penalises him.

WDC

Code: Select all

1  Lewis Hamilton   227 x 44 = 9988
6  Valtteri Bottas   79 x 77 = 6083
5  Felipe Massa      82 x 19 = 1558
7  Daniil Kvyat      57 x 26 = 1482
2  Nico Rosberg     199 x  6 = 1194
10 Max Verstappen    26 x 33 =  858
3  Sebastian Vettel 160 x  5 =  800
12 Nico Hulkenberg   24 x 27 =  648
4  Kimi Raikkonen    82 x  7 =  574
16 Carlos Sainz       9 x 55 =  495

Code: Select all

9  Romain Grosjean   38 x  8 =  304
11 Sergio Perez      25 x 11 =  275
13 Felipe Nasr       16 x 12 =  192
14 Pastor Maldonado  12 x 13 =  156
15 Fernando Alonso   11 x 14 =  154
8  Daniel Ricciardo  51 x  3 =  153
18 Jenson Button      6 x 22 =  132
17 Marcus Ericsson    7 x  9 =   63

Even if Lewis went for car number 1 as most other continuing WDCs since the mid-1970s have done, Bottas would still have a dominant championship position. The Red Bull junior drivers Kyvat, Sainz and Verstappen all are doing well and benefit here. The McLaren drivers don't really move far from their real-life positions.

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes   9988 + 1194 = 11182
Williams   6083 + 1558 =  7241
Red Bull   1482 +  153 =  1635
Ferrari     800 +  574 =  1374
Toro Rosso  858 +  495 =  1353
Force India 648 +  275 =   923
Lotus       304 +  156 =   460
McLaren     156 +  132 =   288
Sauber      192 +   63 =   255

Still fairly close between Ferrari and Toro Rosso with Red Bull within reach. The dominance of Hamilton and Bottas in the WDC makes the top of this dull, but Mercedes would be amongst the Red Bull/Ferrari/Toro Rosso battle if only Lewis had gone for car number one...

Re: Jules Bianchi car number alt. championship

I'm not very good at updating this on the same day as the Grand Prix, am I? But at least I know whether drivers have been penalised post-race or not (here's looking at you, Mercedes!).

Italian GP 2015

Code: Select all

 1 Lewis Hamilton    25 x 44 = 1100
 4 Valtteri Bottas   12 x 77 =  924
 3 Felipe Massa      15 x 19 =  285
 7 Nico Hulkenberg    6 x 27 =  162
 2 Sebastian Vettel  18 x  5 =   90
 6 Sergio Perez       8 x 11 =   88
 5 Kimi Raikkonen    10 x  7 =   70
10 Daniil Kvyat       1 x 26 =   26
 9 Marcus Ericsson    2 x  9 =   18
 8 Daniel Ricciardo   4 x  3 =   12

So Lewis wins again, Valterri would have this in the bag by a long way if Lewis had 1 instead of 44...

WDC

Code: Select all

 1 Lewis Hamilton   252 x 44 = 11088
 6 Valtteri Bottas   91 x 77 =  7007
 4 Felipe Massa      97 x 19 =  1843
 7 Daniil Kvyat      58 x 26 =  1508
 2 Nico Rosberg     199 x  6 =  1194
 3 Sebastian Vettel 178 x  5 =   890
12 Max Verstappen    26 x 33 =   858
11 Nico Hulkenberg   30 x 27 =   810
 5 Kimi Raikkonen    92 x  7 =   644

Code: Select all

16 Carlos Sainz       9 x 55 =   495
10 Sergio Perez      33 x 11 =   363
 9 Romain Grosjean   38 x  8 =   304
13 Felipe Nasr       16 x 12 =   192
 8 Daniel Ricciardo  55 x  3 =   165
14 Pastor Maldonado  12 x 13 =   156
15 Fernando Alonso   11 x 14 =   154
18 Jenson Button      6 x 22 =   132
17 Marcus Ericsson    9 x  9 =    81

Lewis is running away with this, and nobody is going to challenge Valterri... But it's close between Nasr down to the McLaren drivers. Depends who can get the decent points finishes during the flyaways...

WCC

Code: Select all

Mercedes   11088 + 1194 = 12282
Williams    7007 + 1843 =  8850
Red Bull    1508 +  165 =  1673
Ferrari      890 +  644 =  1534
Toro Rosso   858 +  495 =  1353
Force India  810 +  363 =  1173
Lotus        304 +  156 =   460
McLaren      154 +  132 =   286
Sauber       192 +   81 =   273

Well, at least this looks close between Red Bull, Ferrari, Toro Rosso and Force India still. And it is close between Sauber and McLaren!
