Dunno whether he jumped the start or not,but to shoot from 12th-ish to 1st before the first turn is something to behold.sure,he does lose a few positions after,but still,it's an amazing start.

F1 reject Danny Sullivan's spin in the Spin and Win in 1985. A F1 reject not driving like a reject as you can see hear the ovation from the quarter of a million fans at the track as Sullivan pits in for tires after the spin.

With the talk of the forthcoming Formula E all-electric championship, here's a couple of videos showing the electric vehicle lap record at the Nurburgring, a Toyota-badged electric Radical sportscar:

http://youtu.be/iLmVpnYBS28 Onboard lap - it's clear the car doesn't have a high enough top speed - he's pretty much run out of accelearation by the time he reaches the first bridge on the end straight

http://youtu.be/WDhjV1b0zxI Toyota blah

All-electric racing is going to be very strange to watch / listen to. I've got an Isle Of Man TT on-board Blu-Ray that contains a lap on an electric bike and it just seems ... wrong.

EDIT : Turns out that top link was the old record - they've beaten it since then (and 720p version available) : http://youtu.be/WK4bBOSOZIY. Seems to have a bit more top end this time, and his line through
the Carousel Curve at least was much better.

Alright, that's the worst example of motorsports that I've seen in the last years. Sorry, but this is an arcade game with four wheels: fully enabled TC-floor-foot accel, ABS controlled braking, no clutch, poor engine sound with apparently little red-line revs, and worst of all, full automatic gearbox; not even paddle shifters... This look easier than an on-boad view of Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull in a GP weekend!
Sorry, but the day we abandon our petrol engines and their godly sounds, motorsports will die.
Nonetheless, nice effort of TMG.

I think two things were bleedingly obvious;

1. The technology is in its infant stages still. Maybe toddler stages. If TMD had a competitor in engine development, they'd probably go faster.

2. The mission is to beat a lap record. I'm reasonably sure that a future top-level electric car series would have banned some of the driver aids that are present here.

As I type this I have the Toyota lap playing in the background, and it reminds me of the only damn good scene in Star Wars: Phantom Menace, that being the podracing scene... :lol:

But in all seriousness, if motorsport is to reach a new audience, then this technology might be perfect.
