Favourite and less favourite drivers

Post by wmetcalf68 »

I looked at pedestrian's favorite and less favorite teams, and people said it would be easier with drivers. So I made the driver version! It has the same rules, except it is with drivers not teams!

Robert Kubica - He will come back. And promptly kick everyone's ass.

Jenson Button - It's very hard to not like Jenson Button these days, he's very happy-go-lucky.
Kamui Kobayashi - BANZAI.
Vitaly Petrov - One of the most underrated drivers on the grid, I feel.
Heikki Kovalainen - See Jenson Button.
Mark Webber - Supported him pretty much from the get-go as he regularly pulled off impressive overtakes and qualifying laps.

Paul di Resta
Fernando Alonso
Kimi Raikkonen
RRRMMNNNNN GRRRSJJJNNNNNNN
Daniel Ricciardo
Timo Glock
Sebastian Vettel
Sergio Perez
Felipe Massa
Nico Rosberg
Charles Pic
Jean-Eric Vergne
Pedro de la Rosa
Narain Karthikeyan

Nico Hulkenberg - Simply put, I think he's overrated and comes off as somewhat arrogant.
Pastor Maldonado - I don't like Hamilton, but what he did at Spa 2011 was unforgiveable.
Bruno Senna - I still don't believe he belongs in F1.
Lewis Hamilton - I actually started liking Hamilton early 2011. Then Monaco happened.
Michael Schumacher - Still think his comeback is a waste of everyone's time.

I like Button, Grosjean, Hulkenberg, Glock (and Sutil, Trulli, Liuzzi and Barrichello)
used to like Rosberg but he just seems dull to me.

I think Alonso is ridiculously arrogant and Hamilton is too emotionally fragile, but I don't really have a least favourite driver, it's about the teams for me.

Favoured Drivers

Jenson Button (like as a person and as a driver)
Kamui Kobayashi (same)
Lewis Hamilton (don't like as a person but great to watch on song and British so ..yeah)
Adrian Sutil (wah)
Paul Di Resta (wallpaper paste personality and touring car driving style but British)
Kimi Raikkonen (Kimi is ace)
Nico Rosberg (I rate him and seems to be a nice guy)
Michael Schumacher (former arch arch nemesis but it's hard not to support a 40 year old man racing against youngsters)
Heikki Kovalainen (didn't like him at McLaren but has earnt respect from me since then)
Pastor Maldonado (clearly isn't a pay driver and I want him to prove people wrong)

Unfavoured Drivers
Mark Webber - Frankly since 2010 he's been a sulking tosspot and no visible signs he isn't a passive number 2 yet again
Felipe Massa - The crash seems to have damaged his talent and his likeability
Fernando Alonso (don't like as a person, fearsome racer but has been involved in so much underhand shite he is the new Schumacher hate figure)
Bruno Senna - In there for his name which isn't even his name, and is reaching Scott Speed/Bourdais levels of hanging around despite never impressing once

Neutral
Glock, Petrov, Hulkenberg

Don't know enough about Perez, Ricciardo, Vergne, Pic or Grosjean to make up my mind yet.

Mark Webber (Aussie!)
Daniel Ricciard (See above)
Kamui Kobayashi (Because he's awesome!)
Jenson Button (After Webber, the frontrunner I want to win)
Heikki Kovalainen (Dunno why, just do)
Felipe Massa (Purely because he's #2. If he ever gets good again, that'll change.)
Michael Schumacher (Only because he's no longer driving for Ferrari)
Sergio Perez

NEUTRAL:
Nico Rosberg
Bruno Senna
Vitaly Petrov
Timo Glock
Pedro de la Rosa
Nico Hulkenberg
Kimi Raikkonen
Paul di Resta

DISLIKE:
Pastor Maldonado (If he'd scored those points, he'd be higher.)
Sebastian Vettel (After that crash at Fuji 2007, I vaguely remember saying "Suck it up princess")
Romain Grosjean
Narain Karthikeyan
Charles Pic
Jean-Eric Vergne (Always going to hate him with Ricciardo as a teammate)

EDIT. I have to say it: it could seem I'm a Ferrari supporter, but I'm not. I didn't support Barrichello when he was at Ferrari (I started to support him in Brawn GP and Williams time), I started to support Schumacher when he was still at Benetton and I hope to see Massa in another team next year (I would like to see him at Mercedes, as Schumacher's team mate).

I'll try and put everyone who's driven in 2010 - 12

Love:

Hamilton
Button
Webber
Barrichello
Kobayashi
Kovalainen
Chandhok

Like:

Raikkonen
Massa
Petrov
Perez
De La Rosa
Kubica
Rosberg
Heidfeld

Neutral (or don't know enough about yet):

Alonso
Grosjean
Di Resta
Ricciardo
Vergne
Karthikeyan
Pic

Dislike:

Vettel
Hulkenberg
Glock
Trulli
Maldonado
Senna
Liuzzi
Sutil

Hate:

Schumacher (though that's mellowed a bit since his comeback)

Alonso's a strange one, I was a big fan in his Minardi and (pre-McLaren) Renault days, hated him between 2007 and 2010, and last year and so far this year I'm finding respect for him again, especially his attitude towards Ferrari seemingly not being champinship material this year.

2012 list:

Kobayashi - exciting in his driving, has some funny comments, great guy
Räikkönen - I like how he just want to drive
Perez - I already liked him before he came to F1
Webber - hard to choose between him and Button, decider is, he's not a World Champion (yet)
Button - He was somewhat neutral for me before last year, in which he was brilliant, but still cool
Ricciardo - only HRT-driver to date whom I particularly like (DLR and Chandhok are OK), he for one deserves his place at Toro
Glock - I really hope he can get out anything from Marussia, he really deserves a chance somewhere higher
Kovalainen - I didn't like him before he joined Lotus, last year was a nice climbing for him, as well
Rosberg - I quite like him, only thing against him is how he wanted the 2008 Singapore GP-win in 2009 - hello, without Crash(gate), he wouldn't even have had a shot for it
Vettel - probably this is the most middle he's on any list  I liked him, but I hated how he was always the good supertalent guy with no mistakes in the media
Hülkenberg - he definitely deserved this year's chance, but I don't always like his attitude
di Resta - a bit overrated in my opinion, and too much pushed, still fairly likeable sometimes
Pic - the most likely to move on this list during the season; better than di Grassi, worse than d'Ambrosio at this moment
de la Rosa I liked him in his early years, but now he's just another driver who shouldn't be in F1; also how he turned down HRT a year earlier, then joined this year...
Massa - I like how he makes Ferrari look ridiculous
Petrov - Hm... Russian rubels; even if he probably just deserve the seat he has this year
Karthikeyan - because the Indian driver should be Chandhok
Maldonado - I didn't really like him before Spa '11 - he's probably the first ever Monaco expert this far down on any of my lists
Vergne - Alguersuari should rather be here than him. Wickens should rather be here than him.
Grosjean - watched him at a go-kart race where he completely went crazy
Bruno - he's a reject, that's the only thing which keeps him out of bottom 3
Hamilton - before he accuses me, not because he's black
Alonso - can't take neither winning nor losing in any likeable way
Schumacher - I wasn't sure he's still last, but I recognized it when Mercedes seemed better to start. Brrr, I hate him

Guys not in F1 (I surely will leave out someone, I'm sorry):
Like, should be back: Heidfeld, Sutil, Alguersuari, Sato, Davidson, Doornbos
Like, but was time to go out: Hill, Frentzen, Fisichella, Trulli, Barrichello
Like just (or mainly) because they're rejects: Badoer, Bernoldi, Mazzacane
Dislike: Bourdais, Liuzzi, Zonta, Pizzonia, Albers, Bruni

I actually meant to open a thread like this sometime later, but I was only going to ask people to alist a few drivers they like. Ranking all 24 drivers seems a very daunting task, but I'll try it anyway.
As for the teams, the gaps between some of these people are very small and some of them could easily swap places.

I particularly support:

Button (liked him since 2000)
Raikkonen (liked him since 2001)
Hamilton (I used to dislike him at first but he has won me over)
Glock (liked him since 2004 :) )
Senna (I really believe he has potential, he just needs more time to prove it. People judge him too much too soon because of the name)
Kobayashi (who doensn't like him?)

somewhat simpathetic:

Rosberg
Webber
Maldonado
Di Resta
Perez
PetrovDe La Rosa (got to show respect for the elderly :) )
Schumacher (I used to hate him but in the last years I started to respect him more and more)

don't care/don't know:

Kovalainen (Actually, I'm a very big fan of the "Finnish school" of drivers - Hakinnen, Raikkonen - but Heiki was a very big dissapointment in his first years and I still haven't gotten over that)
Vergne (Perhaps I would support him if he wasn't driving a Torro Rosso)
Pic
Massa
Ricciardo
Karthikeian
Grosjean
Hulkenburg (I think Hulkenburg is overrated but I can't actually dislike him, not even for replacing my favourite, Sutil)

dislike:

Alonso (I used to kile him sometimes, especially at the beginning, but disliked him for most of his career)
Vettel (I actually supported Vettel over Alonso during the 2010 title fight, but I never really liked him, whereas I liked Alonso at times)

I haven't got the time to go through the entire list of drivers, so I'll just do favourites and the ones whom I dislike

Favourites
Button (Always supported him, even through the dark days of 2007-2008)
Webber (The underdog)
Kobayashi (No explanation necessary)
Kovalainen (For what he has done at Team Lotus/Caterham in the last few years)

Dislike
Vettel (So bloody boring, and the Finger)
Ramilton (Many, many reasons, from Lewisteria to his arrogance, to his knack of crashing into pretty much everyone...)

Favourites
Jenson Button - Supported him since I started being a serious F1 fan in 2004, I don't know how anyone can't like him.
Mark Webber - Never known why,
Kimi Raikkonen - The man is a role model, extreme drinker, couldn't care less attitude.
Kamui Kobayashi - Do I really need to explain?

Sebastien Buemi (see above)

Favourites

Button
Senna (although 20-odd years ago, I was more of a Prost fan than Senna)
Any Williams/ex-Williams drivers (particularly British Williams drivers) (more of an historical preference, this one)

Least favourites

Schumacher (permanent due to Adelaide 1994, Jerez 1997, Hungary 2010, Monaco 2005?)
Alonso (post-2007)
Vettel (during his dominant finger-pointing era)

Vettel
Who dares to overtake with no hesitation ?

Who is 3 times youngest champion?

Who can be champion even having crash and damaged car?

What about the rest ?
They just race.

An update for me; as with the teams, my preferences have changed.

Robert Kubica - He may never come back, but he will always number one in my books.

Jenson Button - He's still an awesome guy.
Vitaly Petrov - One of the most underrated drivers on the grid, I feel.
Fernando Alonso - Pretty much a holdover from being the title contender I supported.
Felipe Massa - He's good again! :D
Kimi Raikkonen - He's back! And not half-assed, like a certain 7-time World Champion!
Sergio Perez - I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on his recent form.
RRRMMNNNNN GRRRSJJJNNNNNNN - I know he's a crasher, but I really want him to do well
Charles Pic - CHARLES PIC.

Kamui Kobayashi - I can't help but feel he's thrown away his career somehow... he's had opportunites, but failed to capitalise on most of them.
Mark Webber - Mark, we have to talk. About being absolutely useless. Like you have been since Silverstone.
Heikki Kovalainen
Daniel Ricciardo
Pedro de la Rosa
Narain Karthikeyan
Timo Glock
Nico Hulkenberg - I suppose he might not be so overrated after all.
Pastor Maldonado - He's cleaning up his act, I'll give him that.
Nico Rosberg
Jean-Eric Vergne

Lewis Hamilton - I really can't make my mind up on whether I dislike him or I'm just indifferent towards him.

Paul di Resta - Okay, you've had your chance. Now please leave.
Bruno Senna - I think that's the last we'll be seeing of Bruno...
Sebastian Vettel - Ugh, he ruined what would've been a really awesome championship for Alonso.
Michael Schumacher - He's finally gone.

An long-overdue update from me

Jenson Button - It's pretty much impossible to dislike him.
Kimi Raikkonen - Turned up after two years out, and was on the podium after 4 races. His team radio and interviews are gold
Pastor Maldonado - Simply because you never know what he might do next. And the fact that he's finding some sort of consistancy at long last.
Nico Hulkenberg - Great guy, destroyed his team mate this season to my delight.
Fernando Alonso - He's gone from someone I didn't like too much to someone who I have much respect for over the course of this season.

Charles Pic
Romain Grosjean
Felipe Massa
Kamui Kobayashi - Why didn't you do better? :(
Sergio Perez
Pedro De La Rosa
Vitaly Petrov
Mark Webber - Thrown it away, he has.
Heikki Kovalainen
Michael Schumacher - It's a bit sad to see the old man go, but it was long overdue.
Nico Rosberg - Fisichellaitis hurting him badly it would appear.
Lewis Hamilton - Slowly but surely, he's gaining my respect. If he can cut out the petulant, snide comments, he'll gain even more.
Narain Karthikeyan
Daniel-Eric Vericciardo - Bland as something very bland, the pair of them

Timo Glock - He couldn't possibly care less nowadays. Give up your seat to someone else
Paul Di Resta - What a cock.
Bruno Senna - One of the worst drivers I've ever seen. Pastor blew him away this season
Sebastian Vettel (lovers gonna hate? :? )

Perhaps because he's such a nice guy, always smiling, always willing to talk to reporters

I don't think Klon is a fan...

Might have a wee bit to do with him beating Rubens in 09.
It's just unbelievable...that Formula 1 could be such a ridiculous melange of idiots.

I used to hate him when he was at BAR / Honda. He was far too quick to criticise the team in public, which is a practice that I've always hated. It always went down really badly with the team members. His championship-winning season with Brawn pretty much sorted him out and he's fine since.

I love Lewis Hamilton (as driver!!! :D )...and I'm very very sad for his departure from McLaren..he'll miss me a lot...
I have always support drivers rather than teams, I follow Lewis from his first GP in Australia 2007 and with the arrive of Button, another driver that I like very much, I became a McLaren fan...now I'm in a difficult position, but I'll try to support both :)
The driver that I don't like is Alonso, even if, in my opinion, is the number 1 today in F1..maybe because in my country (Italy) he's considered God and the press always defend him also when he made a mistake! In Italy press is completely with Ferrari and against the english teams, first of all Red Bull..they are accused of cheating..

Well he doesn't get caught up in dodgy crashes, doesn't play unfair tricks and he's honest and humble.
The reason I like him is, that he rarely blames other drivers for his own mistakes or misfortune. Something you can't say about S. Vettel.

This was for 2012

Kobayashi
Raikkonen
Webber
Kovalainen
Button
Ricciardo
De La Rosa
Hamilton
Rosberg
Senna
Perez
Alonso
Vernge
Massa
Glock
Hulkenberg
Schumacher
Pic
Maldonado
Petrov
Di Resta
GRSJN
Vettel
Karthikayen

This list is now quite different to what I would have said at the start of the season. For example Lewis has moved up but Perez and Petrov have went down

Here's mine:

Grosjean - Yes, this list does go from favorite to least favorite :) He's fast, exciting to watch, and a definite under-dog. And once I heard people call him RoGro, I was pretty much sold.
Alonso - He's my favorite title contender. His performances this year have cemented him to being my second favorite driver.
Hulkenburg - I like him for reasons similar to Grosjean, but really didn't rank highly on my list until the second half of the season. He's a good person to root for once Grosjean bins it after twenty some laps.
Raikkonen - If my favorite driver races for Lotus, then logically his teammate is also high on the list. Plus the things that he says can be pretty funny.
Massa - I hope he is back on form next year.
Button - What's not to like?
Petrov - Favorite of the backmarkers, although I like Marussia as a team better.
Pic - Because I root for Marrussia, and I like him better than Glock.
Perez - He kind of hit a performance wall at the end of the season.
Maldonado - He's a winner now.
Hamilton - He is basically the middle ground of my driver rankings. Pretty neutral on him, if that's possible.
Di Resta - He's kind of boring...
Glock - He's going nowhere fast.
Rosberg - Wins a race, then goes anonymous on everyone.
De La Rosa - Because HRT
Karthikayen - Because HRT
Kobayashi - Never impressed me.
Shumacher - He came back and was unimpressive. We all expected more.
Webber - So low because he drives for Red Bull and was quick to call out Grosjean for wrecking him in Japan, which to me still looks like he slowed up for no discernible reason.
Toro Rosso - Both drivers are one and the same to me, anonymous.
Kovalainen - Has-been.
Vettel - I wouldn't say I hate him, but I don't like him winning everything.
Senna - Woefully slow. Never a thrill out of him. He's like the Torro Rosso squad, except he has Pastor to make him look pitiful.
LONG LIVE MARUSSIA

Things I was wrong about:
Kimi to Ferrari, Perez out of McLaren, Maldonado to Lotus, Kobash comes back, Gutierrez stays, Chilton stays, Boullier leaves Lotus.

I stream Ustream, we all scream for PRC.
