Here's the livery, I've not exactly followed the brief (because I'd already started it...) but it should suffice.

The pre season test venue for the first RTCC season of the decade was Brands Hacth. All 38 cars were present

Image

Ali Barwick set the fastest time in an over all impressive day for Ford. ZimSport's Vectras also looked fast, while White Van Man suprised everyone witht their pace. BMW and Audi had a mixed day, while teams using the Cavaliers found that they could mix it with their (relatively) modern counter parts. Most of the field was immensely clustered together, and with many drivers unable to get the run they wanted on the crowded track, things could still change pace wise.

Jones haven't named a number 2 driver, unless Pasta memory strikes again. You can't have Menu as this is fictional drivers only, I just forgot to sub his name out ;)

Round One - Oran Park, Feature Race, 25 laps - Mandatory Pitstop

Image

The RTCC circus rolled into Sydney for the first RTCC race of the new era, and the first for 17 years. The capacity crowd at the circuit that Herrmann Mann saved from demolition in 2010 begged for action, and action they got, as John Zimmer took pole position for the 25 lap feature race alongside O.N. Duck. Kickert lined up 3rd in the second ZimSport, with Harold Watson an impressive 8th for Force 1, and Rory McGatley's Honda setting the slowest time. Before the race, Herrmann Mann decided to award each pole sitter 1 point.

The race would prove to be even more dramatic. Zimmer had a great start, and led into turn one, but he was nudged by Duck and was sent spinning onto the grass! He managed to rejoin, albeit in last place, as Duck led. But not for long, as he spun in the extremely bumpy apex of 10 and 11, letting Griffin into the lead. Nurmovitsch and Port also spun at the back of the field in the same complex, and they wouldn't be the last victims of the fearsome corners.

Griffin led, and Sebastian Prost was second on lap 2, but Prost took too much kerb through 11, rolled over 360 degress, before hitting the barriers head on, and veering back onto the track. The whole field had to slow down to avoid Prost's car. Pieter Kickert also spun, along with Nurmester, but Nurmester beached in the gravel. Prost managed to walk away from the accident.

Jack Maddock passed and caught Griffin, with Duck in 3rd, but when Griffin spun on lap 6, Maddock found himself with an 18 second lead back to Duck who had been delayed with the Prost incident. Michael Prost, Duck, Griffin, and Whiting battled for second position, which allowed Maddock to increase his lead to 25 seconds on lap 14.

Douglas, Steel, and Northfield in the slower Cavaliers pitted early on lap 13 to try and leapfrog faster runners near the end. Lap 16 signalled the start of the pit stop window proper, as Whiting, Griffin, Watson, Tyryn, Asimov and McGatley all pitted. Out on the track, Michael Prost had eaten into Maddock's lead, reducing it to 15 seconds.

Lap 17 signalled chaso in the pitlane, as everyone who had yet to pit (apart from Maddock, Etherington, M.Prost, Carlton, and Jenkins) pitted. Suprisingly, no one had to queue to pit. Maddock pitted from the lead a lap later, along with Etherington who was 4th, while Prost, Carlotn, and Jenkins stayed out to try and leapfrog Maddock.

Douglas' and Steel's plan to leapfrog the field worked, as Douglas was 11th and Steel 17th after the stops, but it didn't work so well for Northfield, the Briton having to retire with brake failure. Maddock's pitstop left him 4th and 43 seconds behind M.Prost in the lead, with Ryan Carlton 23 seconds back from Prost and Jenkins 36 seconds back. Prost stayed out for an extra two laps until lap 20, when he and Carlton pitted, but the plan failed to work, with Prost rejoing 7 seconds behind Maddock. Pieter Kickert tried to stay out one lap too long, running out of fuel on lap 20, capping off a poor day for ZimSport. Jenkins stayed out an extra lap to lap 21, but the extra lap failed to allow him to rejoin in the top 4.

Maddock thought he had the race sealed up, but he didn't count on getting stuck behind Tyryn while trying to lap him, the man with no vowels was going so slow that Maddock's lead was slashed to just 1.3 seconds in two laps! Unluckily for Prost, Maddock cleared Tyryn and pulled away to win the race by 2 seconds.

Image

Many teams tried to run dangerously low on fuel, with that plan backfiring on many drivers who ran out of fuel on the last lap. Chris Whiting was denied fourth place by running out of fuel, with Steel and Watson also runnign out of fuel on the last lap. Many cars were fuelled so light they conked out just after the line.

McAllister came home 3rd to the delight of his team, while Etherington drove perfectly to pull of his strategy and finish 7th. Although O.N. Duckmanaged to recover to finish 5th, Audi Team Williamswins the Reject of the race for a disgraceful performance from Bean, and Duck's general dickish driving. Jack Maddock's amazing drive to win the race wins him the IIDOTR award.

Ali also did well after being held up in qualifying, and to collect some decent points in such a large field was a good lesson in damage limitation. Nonetheless we must expect much more from both drivers as the season progresses.

Ali Barwick wrote:I was p*ssed after being held up in quali, my time was easily enough for the top 6 before some cretin baulked me. I didn't get to see who it was as I was concentrating too much, but I won't think twice if this sort of thing happens to me again. The points are a small consolation, Chris showed what the car could do, so we're definitely looking to bag some podiums at the very least as soon as possible. Now excuse me while I take this blonde chick round the back and nail her good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see to remember you ever posting a picture of the Douglas-Cliff Racing car, Lansvale sponsorship and all.

Anyways, Tom is reportedly happy with his 9th place finish and is looking forward to consistently score points for the rest of the year.

Lansvale Smash Repairs Douglas Cliff Racing:
Image

Race 2 - 12 laps

Image

Chris Whiting and Ali Barwick showed Ford's true pace by taking pole and 5th position respectively, while both ZimSports were again fast and hoping not to waste the good positions. Michael Prost started lower than he would of liked, while Prism showed some improvement over yesterday, and Nurmovitsch will be dissapointed to be 2.3 seconds off the pace.

At the start, Whiting fended off Zimmer into turn one while Kickert lost out to both Duck and Hill. Near the back, Tyryn and Asimov made too mutch contact, sending the man with no vowels off onto the grass for the second time this weekend, and also sending Asimov to the back. Thomas Yorke also spun his Fusion off, but rolled into the gravel and couldn't get going again.

The first lap saw some incredibly close racing throughout the field, with many cars going side-by-side, and plenty odf door banging and trading paint. Zimmer was now glued to the back of Whiting's gearbox, but he couldn't get past the Ford man for love nor money, as Sebastian Prost climbed to 3rd at the expense of Hill.

The field had so far managed to not spin at turns 10 and 11, but Nurmovitsch both broke the trend and earnt Reject of the Race for punting Dominic Strass-Cahn into a terrifying roll, with the Frenchman ending up over the fence, on his roof, and out of the race, and amazingly staggered away from the incident clutching his head. Further news from the team on his condition would be announced later. Meanwhile, Etherington provided more reasons for Dreadnought to go home and cry about as he spun exiting the last turn, sending him to the back of the field behind his team mate Asimov.

Rck Tyryn ended a dismal weekend in the turn 1 gravel traps at the start of lap 3, and turns 10 and 11 claimed more high profile victims. Just behid Whitingg's leading Ford, Zimmer and Kickert made contact, causing both ZimSports to spin onto the grass infield. Both were able to get going again but in 28th and 22nd respectively.

Back at the front, on lap 5 Whiting was still leading by 1.7 seconds back to S.Prost, who'd inherited 2nd place and Barwick in 3rd. A lap later, Whiting would make a mistake over the bridge and Prost went through, and unfortunately that was that, as Prost pulled away and never looked back. Barwick and Whiting's intense fight for 2nd meant that by lap 8, both drivers plus Hill, Duck, Bean, Jenkins, Griffin, Carlton, Megone, and Maddock were all running nose to tail. 2 laps of intense squabbling later, and Hill emerged in front (well, 2nd place) and attempted to close down Prost, but the 15 second lead was un conquerable. McGatley stealithly picked his way to 7th in the privateer Honda. Further back, McAllister fought with Stuart and a resurgent Kickert for 11th, with Kickert's 14th and 2 points bringing little comfort to ZimSport.

Standings to follow tomorrow along with pictures from both days.

Edward Restov wrote:Well that race was a crock of shite wasn't it? Dominic getting crippled by that prat with the unpronounceable name and my engine going. Initial tests say that Dommo has a severe case of whiplash, which although it could have been much worse, I'm going to withdraw him from the next 4 races. Pay drivers, feel free to put your names forward :)
