Alternative 2009 F1 World Championship

Post by TomWazzleshaw »

Ok with 2 races left and Brawn and Button look like taking the 2 championships I decided to find out what would happen if I took Brawn and Red Bull out of the equation.

Drivers Championship:
1. Kimi Raikkonen: 78 points (3 wins, 2 2nds, 3 3rds)
2. Nico Rosberg: 69 (71) points (3 2nds, 2 3rds)
3. Lewis Hamilton: 68.5 (71) points (3 wins, 4 2nds)
4. Jarno Trulli: 58 (61) points (4 wins, 3 3rds)
5. Fernando Alonso: 55.5 (56) points (1 win, 4 3rds)
6. Timo Glock: 55 (59) points (3 2nds, 1 3rd)
7. Heikki Kovaleinen: 45 points (1 win, 1 3rd)
8. Felipe Massa: 43.5 (45) points (2 wins, 2 2nds, 1 3rd)
9. Nick Heidfeld: 43 (48) points (2 wins, 1 3rd)
10. Robert Kubica: 36 points (1 win, 1 3rd)
11. Giancarlo Fisichella: 22 points (1 2nd)
12. Sebastien Buemi: 19 points (Best Result: 2 4th)
13. Adrian Sutil: 13 points (1 2nd)
14. Kamui Kobayashi: 12 points (1 2nd)
15. Sebastien Bourdais: 10 (11) points (Best Result: 1 5th)
16. Kazuki Nakajima: 10 points (Best Result: 1 6th)
17. Nelson Piquet Jr: 4 points (Best Result: 1 7th)
18. Vitantonio Liuzzi: 2 points (Best Result: 1 7th)
19. Romain Grosjean: 0 points (Best Result: 1 9th)
20. Jaime Alguersuari: 0 points (Best Result: 1 10th)
21. Luca Badoer: 0 points (Best Result: 1 11th)

Tiebreakers: 15th, 16th (Tiebreaker: Best Result)
19th - 21st (Tiebreaker: Best Results)

Constructors Championship:
1. Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro: 127.5 (128) points (5 wins, 4 2nds, 4 3rds)
2. Panasonic Toyota Racing: 125 (131) points (4 wins, 4 2nds, 4 3rds)
3. Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes: 115.5 (119) points (4 wins, 4 2nds, 1 3rd)
4. BMW Sauber F1 Team: 79 (84) points (3 wins, 2 3rds)
5. AT&T Williams: 79 (81) points (3 2nds, 2 3rds)
6. ING Renault F1 Team: 59.5 (60) points (1 win, 4 3rds)
7. Force India F1 Team: 31 points (2 2nds)
8. Scuderia Toro Rosso: 29 (30) points (Best Result: 3 4ths)

Tiebreaker: 4th, 5th (Tiebreaker: Best Result)

Some important notes:
2009 Italian Grand Prix: Hamilton's mistake cost him in hindsight the world championship
2009 Australian Grand Prix: When Kubica went off he effectivly lost himself the race and any possibility of leapfrogging his teammate later in the season
2009 German Grand Prix: When Raikkonen and Sutil collided it was an effective battle for 2nd behind Massa
2009 Hungarian Grand Prix: When Felipe Massa hit the spring in Q2 he was only 1.5 points behind championship leader Nico Rosberg
Nico Rosberg Finished 2nd in the championship even though he didn't take a win all season. Had the Malaysian GP been full points Hamilton would be ahead by the virtue of have 2 wins to Nico's 0
Toyota came within 2.5 points of the constructors championship. Again had the Malaysian GP been full distance they would have finished 3 points ahead of Ferrari

My favourite bit about this is that Heidfeld has a win! Also, Rosberg 2nd in the championship without winning a race - kind of reminiscent of his dad's championship when he only won one race.

Total points if full points had been awarded in the Malaysian GP?

Sorry for the double post but here are some more interesting facts:
During the course of the season so far 3 drivers have escaped rejectdom at the following races:
Sebastien Buemi: 2009 Chinese Grand Prix
Sebasiten Bourdais: 2009 Monaco Grand Prix
Adrian Sutil: 2009 Italian Grand Prix

During the course of the season there have been 5 different Drivers Championship leaders and several lead changes:
Jarno Trulli: 2009 Australian Grand Prix - 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix
Timo Glock: 2009 Chinese Grand Prix
Jarno Trulli: 2009 Bahrian Grand Prix
Timo Glock: 2009 Spanish Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso: 2009 Monaco Grand Prix
Jarno Trulli: 2009 Turkish Grand Prix - 2009 British Grand Prix
Nico Rosberg: 2009 German Grand Prix - 2009 Belgian Grand Prix
Kimi Raikkonen: 2009 Italian Grand Prix - Present
It just goes to show how unpredicable this season has been

During the course of the season there have been 2 different Constructors Championship leaders:
Toyota: 2009 Australian Grand Prix - 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix
Ferrari: 2009 European Grand Prix - present
Not as dramatic as the Drivers championship

Goes to show that Toyota have had a better season that it appears on paper. Now for some consistency...
