Well, on the plus side, Pereira didn't crash into anything! :D No repair work for us!

Lets just gloss over the fact that he finished a lapped last...

A statement from Tony Fernando

Yet again I am dragged back from my holid... er... business meeting in the Seychelles (they're developing an exciting new species of tea, or so someone on the beac... I mean... corporate headquarters told me) to comment on a particularly disappointing outing for Clatterham Racing. I can see only one way to go forwards with this operation, and to make full use of the drivers

Jason, face it, you can't go round corners to save your life. So, we're going to put Tarmo Mõõk in the #11 car for the really twisty circuits where cornering is everything and straight line speed is negligible. However, looking at the circuit layout for the next round, you're spared for now.

Yrjö Perkelainen will be designated as the "number one driver" in car #10, although what this means in reality is his seat is safe for the whole season barring a race ban or, say, a ridiculous DNQ performance.

Here's how the driver schedule is intended to be:

Jason van Drunen (S135/C80) will drive at:
Round 10 - Helter Skelter/Hurricane Skyway
Round 11 - Big Forest
Round 13 - Pine Hills Raceway
Round 16 - Grunwald Circuit (though it was hard to call this one)
Round 18 - GeneRally Speedway
Round 20 - Special Stage Route 7

Tarmo Mõõk (S90/C125) will drive at:
Round 7 - Special Stage Route 11
Round 9 - Camino Viejo de Montserrat - Extreme Course
Round 12 - El Capitan
Round 14 - Maple Valley Raceway
Round 17 - Driving Park Complex String
Round 19 - Super Monaco Circuit (if it's the one I think it is)

We're going to need to know which circuit layout is going to be used before deciding who drives at:
Round 8 - Sunset Peninsula Raceway (Tarmo if it's the full circuit, Jason if it's the Club or Speedway)
Round 15 - Frameout City - Grand Champion (can't find any track layout, anywhere...)

A statement from Tarmo Mõõk

Buh.

A statement from Jason van Drunen

(unprintable on a family forum)

I've also edited the Wiki to show the driver change. I'd suspect that Round 8 will be at the longest of the three available circuits, hence that'd be a three-race run for Tarmo to see how good (or not) he really is. The further thought occurs that the ram-raiding idiot that is Anthrax Raisins (skill 180, cornering 35) may be an even better (?) choice than either of the two regular #11 drivers for the glorified AVUS-with-a-few-twists that is the final race on the calendar... it depends whether Clatterham has a place in the Teams' Championship at stake as to whether His Tea-Drinkingness will take the risk on putting him in the car. After all, Anthrax can only drive a Citroën Saxo that's had the Max Power treatment very fast in a straight line and has no concept of braking points, or even brakes, but as long as he can be taught that in the intervening time...

Since you asked it, diniz, here's the layout for the Frameout City:

Image

And I refer you to this regarding the layout of Sunshine Peninsula. Also, be aware that there will be a Grand Reversal at Autumn Ring Mini. :)

The official race investigation report wrote:[...] Following the collision between car #55 and car #42 on lap 20 at the banked section before the start-finish line, [Robert] Jackson, the driver of the Omega Motorsport Opel Omega, was treated on the circuit's hospital, as per WTCS regulations dictate. He is currently under treatment and investigation by the doctors, while [Jay] Becker has been charged of causing an avoidable incident, which is under investigation by the series' stewards.[...]

INJURY REPORT

0-65: No or very mild injury, or one that recovers in time before next race, no races missed, no need for replacement (others require one)
66-75: Small injury, will miss one race
76-85: Medium injury, will miss two, three or four races (decided by RNG)
85-90: Big injury, will miss more than five races (decided by RNG)
91-100: Career-ending or fatal accident (take your pick)

Robert Jackson:
62

Robert Jackson has been cleared to take part for Special Stage Route 11, although he is reported to be somewhat dizzy.

PENALTY REPORT

0-20: cleared as racing incident
21-40: warning (6 warnings = 2-second penalty for next race's qualifying following the race where the sixth warning happens, plus 1 reprimand strike)
41-60: reprimand (3 strikes = 5-second penalty for next race's qualifiying following the race where third strike happens)
61-80: 1-race ban (owner must specify replacement - same performance will be used)
81-100: 3-race ban plus DSQ for driver (owner must specify replacement - 10 performance point penalty will be applied)
(I changed it from grid to qualifying seconds because xkoranate cannot simulate grid penalties properly)

Jay Becker:
64

Becker has been banned from SSR11 round after stewards confirmed he caused an avoidable incident and WaffleCat must specify replacement for him (or file an appeal). If he fails to do one of those by Thursday, May 16, Tommy Watson will drive in place of him for SSR11.

Standings soon, and Diniz, changes noted. That made Valsattis and Megumi arrangement in 1996 F1RGP2C season look simpler, IMO

Gotcha. Jase for Frameout City and the Grand Reversal, Tarmo for Sunshine Peninsula.

You don't need to specify performance to replace a banned or injured driver - Becker's performance will be reused. Noted anyway. :)

STEWARD NOTES

The organizers has issued a warning to Nippon Racecraft for "bad pitstop procedure that results in a dangerous car". This warning will count to Satoshi Taki's, because he suffered the botched pitstop. The team may file an appeal until the SSR11 qualifying is up.

ORGANIZER NOTES

The organizer would like to inquire to the teams if they want the SSR11 race run with the underpass "death" chicane removed or not. :)

Original SSR11 all the way. It's not dangerous, just more challenging than the piss easy GT3-onwards chicane, and that is not what SSR11 is about.

Emphasis on "underpass", dude, so basically if that happens, we will be racing in the modified version of GT1's SSR11. I count that as an against vote, by the way. :)

Um, what? Is there a third version of SSR11 I'm not aware of? Either way, my support is behind whatever gets us racing at the original version as it is in GT1, the way SSR11 was meant to be raced.

It was actually just my own hypothetical layout. I got that idea from The Vanishing Boy over GTPlanet (I am tankuroded there) which ran a thread about missing tracks in GT5. He had some hypothetical layouts from other GT tracks (other layouts of Citta di Aria, Tokyo R246, etc) in that thread before he removed it from post #1. ;)

Stuff it, I am going to run it as-is. The chicane will be there, here we go...

RACE 7: SPECIAL STAGE ROUTE 11 -UNDERPASS COURSE-

If you mention the word "close", that will explain today's qualifying results, which is held in early evening... (The race will be run on late evening, obiviously)

^As Lewis have a faster average laptime over Blagojevic, she starts second and Blagojevic starts third.

Roberts sets his first ever pole position in a close qualifying over Route 11, with Lewis and Blagojevic setting exactly the same best lap! As Lewis had a faster average laptime, she will start in front of Blagojevic. Almost everyone scored a time of 2 minutes, although some others scored 2 minutes and one second. Today's session was very chaotic one. Tarmo Mook, the technical circuit stand-in to van Drunen, will start 20th, while Marks, which stand in for Becker today, will start 21st, and Voeckler seems to have yet another bad luck during qualifying, in which he will start last! And Lucarelli seems in an anonymous position, too. Woods, Vasquez, Bata, Boudermann, Korte, and Faera failed to qualify.

Welcome to the long night. Prepare yourselves.

Shut it, Jase. You'd have DNQed here and taken Reject Of The Qualifying! Sit back and wait your turn. I don't make these decisions lightly, you know. As for Yrjö, I'm expecting a points haul, here, and I expect to be not let down. TEA POWER! Now available is Fernando's Gold Leaf, a new double-caffeinated variety to keep racing drivers awake during night races, and which is absolutely nothing to do with a certain Formula One team of the late 1960s! No, really!

Unwise words from Tarmo Mõõk

Re: Warped Touring Car Series (SSR11 RACE FINALLY UP!)

Post by FMecha »

Sorry for the delays, guys... Anyway, here we go... *insert GT1 race start tune here*

RACE 7: SPECIAL STAGE ROUTE 11 -UNDERPASS COURSE-
THE RACE

Image

*The race is run, obiviously, on the GT1 version of the track. [R] indicates replacement driver.
50 laps (for apparoximately 100 miles), clear night.

With the sky going into a purple twilight, the long night of racing is going to begin. "Hello, and welcome to Special Stage Route 11, the host of Warped Touring Car Series' first ever night race. I am Bob Walker", said Bob as he signs in. "Oh and hello too Walker, I am James Page, reporting live from the circuit. This circuit [SSR11] is the best street circuit ever I ever seen and heard.". As the race is going to start, with none but competitors cars (and the safety car) on the starting line, the countdown begins. "And it's three, two, ONE~! GO GO! The long night race has began! And oh, oh oh!" screams Walker, followed by Page's "Oh look at that! Luis Pereira has just stalled!". It screamed a bad luck for Pereira. Although he did manage to start the car, his engine expired just after 1000 meters! He was ruled out of the remainder of the race. Meanwhile, Roberts managed to stay in the first place during this point.

Just into the fourth lap, Blagojevic broke his clutch and Mook, despite being assigned as the "technical" course driver by Tony Fernando, hit a barrier located in the underpass section of the course a lap later. His incident blocked the circuit for a few moments; luckily the race was not red-flagged. At lap 16 came the time to pit in. Lewis dropped to 7th, Nicchi dropped into 11th, and Martin vd Maeyede dropped into 12th.

Fresh with new tires, suddenly Voeckler went into overdrive as he goes from 21th after pitstop to 16th by lap 20! A lap before, Nicchi's car went ablaze, throwing him out of the race again. Perkelainen suffered a double tyre puncture at lap 22, in the hotel tunnel, which is far away from the pit stop. He lost both front tires in process!

As others pitted in on the 27th lap, Lucarelli suffered a longer-than-usual pit stop when one of the pitcrews accidentally placed an used tire from the first part of the race! The mistake cost Lucarelli positions; he have to settle for the last position. Instead, Voeckler, Daniels, and Wankucini found themselves in the lower point-paying positions.

Daniels began trailing Roberts at Lap 32. Wankucini snatched Martin from the eighth position he just regained two laps before, and Voeckler rised to fourth position by lap 35. Suzuki passed Voeckler and Robert Jackson by lap 39. On lap 42, Roberts went wide at the hairpin leading to the industrial section of the course, allowing Daniels to be in the lead.

With three laps to go, Irwin had a serious thorttle problem that, as he told to us, "made the car go awry in seconds". North and Wankucini had a battle for seventh position, a battle that the Brit won.

Finally, Arthur Daniels scored a shock victory for Twinnings Fighting Mongosses team, leading to first win for him, as well Subaru and TEGTFM! James Roberts, who finished second, managed to prevent Subaru from having a 1-2 finish by keeping Chiko Suzuki finishing third after the underweight embrassment last race. Robert Jackson finished fourth, Voeckler finished fifth - a shocker as he started from the last place. Suzuki's teammate, Taki, finished sixth, and North finished seventh. The oddly named Italian in the Northern Korean team, Mario Wankucini (rumors has been recently surfarced that the "Wankucini" part is a pseudonym) finished eighth, which should please those North Koreans (although apparently they wanted Lang-Dong, which finished 14th, to be in the points instead). Daniels, Suzuki, and Voeckler, all of them, received the Infinity Improability Drive of the Race award for the race, while Lucarelli's pitcrew has won today's Reject of the Race award for causing the embarssing screwup that screwed Lucarelli over.

In conclusion, the race was an absolute shocker despite low rate of attrition.

Meanwhile, in the press conference, Tony Fernando has gone a bit weird. He's started making strange pronouncements about the number 11 being bad luck in Sri Lanka - you'd think if that was the case someone would have told him in the last half a century - and that there are conspiracies to disguise a car called "The Interceptor" as one of the participants. "The Interceptor" is capable of throwing tyre-shredding caltrops onto the road as a means of rudimentary defence...

A sample of Fernando's Gold Leaf tea has been sent to an independent testing laboratory to see if it contains any substances other than extra caffeine. An extra delegation has been sent to Bolivia to see if Mr Fernando owns any "tea" plantations there.

VRT excuses by the lack of PR, but with consecutives DNQ's, we didn't think the need for it (that, and i'm ashamed that even in a classic GT track, one that should've been factor, the car couldn't even work!)

Lucarelli posted his second pole position - but given his in-race bad luck, will he able to score a point? North and Blagojevic will start behind Lucarelli, with Martin van der Maeyede starting fourth and Robert Jackson fifth. Voeckler, Lucarelli's teammate, will start sixth. Poor luck for Jan van der Maeyede and James Roberts as they slipped in the lower positions, but worse was Emanuele Nicchi which have to start 29th after his qualifying session was ruined by numerous spinouts! Had the organizers decided to employ DNQ here, he would not started today.

Welcome to the Twilight Zone, VRT versión. In the least expected circuit for us, the Holden was particulary fast! Not only Nico would've qualify in normal circumstances, he's battling the mid-high tier! Is this karma from Forza?

Points! Points points points points points, they are ours this time... said Tony Fernando after a tasting session of the next new product in the Fernando empire, Black Leaf Tea - dried twice as long over a Scottish peat fire for the perfect competitor to both Lapsang Souchong and single malt Islay whisky!

And finally, it's time for...

RACE 8: SUNSET PENINSULA RACEWAY - FULL COURSE
THE RACE

Image
56 laps, sunny but overcast.

Oh well, stuff it, I am going for a positives and negatives today:

Positives:
Harri Korte: Korte may have a nightmare qualifying - we can blame on him directly as he did not have the pace to win, but he did it. Although there was little retirement, almost everyone spun out in a race that ended up into a slight trainwreck (only Nasib Najib Bata failed to finish due to the trainwreck spunout). Taking advantage of slipstreaming, he and Chiko Suzuki (despite the latter having a somewhat less aerodynamic car) rose to the points position by lap 45. Lucarelli went wide at turn 16 and Korte took advantage. He evantually won and we decided to give the IIDOTR award to him. Coupled with Hafidis Faera - another Ford driver - beating Voeckler today, Ford finally gained some important points in the manufacturer's standings, although they are stuck in the last position in the standings.

Alessandro Lucarelli: Pundits (and Mr. Linari) expected Lucarelli to succed after his pole position today, despite Grand Valley proving otherwise. Lucarelli went into a two-stopper today and maintained the lead, securing his luck... that is, until lap 45. He went wide at turn 16, the turn leading to the banked turn 17, and Korte executed a slipstream move on him, gaining lead. Nonetheless, he finally scored on points for the second time of this season.

Negatives:
Good Call Racing: This race was a total nightmare to this team. Martin may have started fourth, but Jan have to start 21st. Things went worse as Martin dropped to 19th by lap 26, then 24th by lap 32 after he spun out. In fact, he spun out of the track 3 times today, yet he somehow survives. What? ROTR for this team. (Bob Walker was utterly critical on this one, to the dismay of their fans)

Anthony North: Second in qualifying, slipped to 17th in the race thanks to spin outs and pit failures. His luck is slightly better than Mr. Nicchi though.

The track itself/the organizers: The race was a trainwreck, according to James Page. The race itself was filled with many spinouts (despite few retirement) and multiple yellow flags. The first one came out when Vasquez clutch broke as he enters turn 11, causing an accident early in the race. The next one came out when Nasib Najib Bata spun out in the banked section (late section of turn 17). He was running 10th when he almost hit Yrjo Perkelainen as a result of the spinout. Fans has been ranting today, blaming both the circuit and the organizers for running without DNQs. Whatever.

STEWARD NOTES

Vasquez and Bata is under medical investigation.

ORGANIZER NOTES

An staff from the organizer is being sent to the hospital after drinking Fernando's Black Leaf tea. We don't know why. More importantly, the next race will be limited to 22 starters due to the nature of the course.

(OOC: I need lap records for the remaining Forza tracks and SSR7 as I don't have access to those games [yet] - if you have, please post it here or by the email [click on the envelope]. Lap record should be set using a car with power between 490-510 hp.) No longer needed - RRR just mailed me after he offered to set lap records for the tracks.

And somewhere in the distance, the sound of a vodka bottle being smashed against a wall was accompanied by the equally destructive sound of a teacup being dropped.
