KL-racer's Alternative DTM: 2003 season

DTM Chairman Game: 2003 season

Well, sorry for the long delay. I was trying to figure out the brand new finance system for this series. Here’s what I came up with

Every manufacturer has a pool of 5000 euros to use on upgrades and/or to lend out to struggling teams.

EDIT: As wizzie suggested, the teams can only recieve a maximum of 2000 euros from the manfacturers per season.

The upgrade cost will still be 1 point = 1500 euros, but when a manufacturer does an upgrade, all of the teams using their cars has to get it. In addition, the teams can also do their own upgrades, but each individual team is limited to 3000 euros no matter their finishing position.

In regards of prize money, the amounts will be once again be modified to the following system:
1st: 1000 euros
2nd: 750 euros
3rd: 550 euros
4th: 400 euros
5th: 300 euros
6th: 250 euros
7th: 200 euros
8th: 150 euros
9th: 100 euros
10th: 50 euros

Another new change in the series, is the permission to use pay drivers, both normal and manufacturer backed.
For normal pay drivers: There are three tiers, 100 EU, 200 EU, and 300 EU. Each normal pay driver can only contribute a maximum of 600 euros, so a 100 EU pay driver can do 6 rounds, 200 EU can do 3 rounds and 300 EU can do 2 rounds.

EDIT: If you are happy with a pay driver, you can indeed sign him to a proper salary for the remainder of the season, given if you can afford it!

However, Manufacturer backed Pay drivers, are pay drivers nominated by each individual manufacturer. Each manufacturer can only have one of these drivers, and it’s entirely optional. Each Manufacturer backed pay driver can bring 150 EU per race, but unlike the Normal pay drivers, these drivers can stay for the whole 10-race season.

At the end of the season, the teams will receive prize money based on the finishing order of the team championship. In addition, the manufacturers will also receive prize money, but it’s in inverse order of the team championship. Therefore, the manufacturers that are struggling will receive more money than the ones that are doing great.

Also worth mentioning, due to the fact that Subaru is entering the championship, we have 7 manufacturers, and by doing the math and given the current state of the series, I decided to open up 3 new team slots for anyone that is interested in joining. If you decide to join, the budget will be 6000 euros and you have to talk to one of the existing manfacuturers in DTM.

EDIT: The points system and success ballast system will not change

Finally, I figured out the car stats for Subaru, if anybody including the new teams wants to use the Legacy: they are: +15/+14/+11

EDIT: The maximum limit on stats is +20.

So here’s the entry list so far:

D2 Kabel racing: [shizuka] (BMW M3 E46) 20/20/19.73 550 euros

After some initial struggles regarding what car to use. This late entry decided to go with the Subaru Legacy, with Paul Rivett and Jim Richards as their drivers. And, it’s important to note that for the first time ever in this series, a team owner decides that his two cars will have different stats from the beginning. In order to entice new teams to Audi, we'll chip in an additional 1500 euros on top of the original 6000 euro budget. However, we'll only accept one entry and they have to run Christian Abt as their works drivers.

And can JLD continue to put a further strain on VW's coffers for a 1000 euro cheque? :P

EDIT: And to stop people like me abusing the system to no end, we should probably put a limit of 4000 euros per two seasons that a team can recieve from a manufacturer.

Can I enter a team with Opel? If so Aiello and Reuter will drive and the team will be called AP Motorsport.

If it counts for anything I am totally OK with it

I have a question: If Deletraz drives good enough, could I keep him as a regular, not paying driver for the rest of the year?

As a DSR owner, we are announcing to keep both our drivers. 1500 spend on acceleration

As Hyundai manager we would do the following actions:
-we invest 1500 euros in reliability as a manufacturer.
-we give 1500 euros per both our teams to spend as they like
-we are waiting if there will be any new teams entering the championship. if there isn't and we dont get additional 1000 euros, we will help Zakspeed with the remaining 500 of our budget.

Zakspeed spend 675 € on acceleration and 675 € on cornering.

Subaru will spend 600 on acceleration and 600 on reliablity (on behalf on manufacturer, not team). Yes, I have feeling that this year will be a "suicide season" for DRT :|

We also is still trying to convice other teams to join forces with us this year.

There is a slight problem, as my privately entered Audi's are almost twice as developed as your works cars. How are you going to solve the embarassement of an efficient German factory team getting beaten by a Belgian chaotically organised garagiste team?

That's where the new Audi for 2004 comes in, as I assume the stats for it would be the average of our two (or three) teams.

And JLD will take another 1000 euro cheque to reach our 2000 euro limit for the year.

Oh and for KL's reference, we're considering Pedro Diniz and Enrique Bernoldi as paydrivers for the second car, depending on what tier their fit into.

Yay, I finally got the first post updated with all of the preseason upgrades and other things. I am still waiting for wizzie to select his pay driver for the second seat at JLD.

By the way, there are still two team slots open, if anyone else is intersted in joining.

I'll run Diniz for the first two races (which I believe is how long he'll pay us for) with Bernoldi taking the seat for the three races after that. After that, we'll decide which one of the two will get the drive for the rest of the year.

In a first for the DTM, I decided to do a preseason test at the Nurburgring for 2 reasons: The first reason is to hopefully get a pecking order without success ballast installed, and the second reason is to see the overall gap throguhout the field without success ballast. So, with that out of the way, here's the preseason test results from Nurburgring

1 Timo Scheider (Lamb Motorsports) 1:50.205
2 Jorg Muller (D2-Kabel Racing) 1:50.212
3 Laurent Aiello (AP Motorsport) 1:50.386
4 Johnny Cecotto (D2-Kabel Racing) 1:50.417
5 Yvan Muller (Belgian VW/Audi Club) 1:50.605
6 Olivier Beretta (Lamb Motorsports) 1:50.617
7 Manuel Reuter (AP Motorsport) 1:51.004
8 Jean Alesi (Sorensen Motorsport) 1:51.193
9 Jean-Marc Gounon (Warsteiner Renault) 1:51.263
10 Hideki Noda (Dominic Racing Team) 1:51.313
11 Alain Menu (Warsteiner Renault) 1:51.375
12 Jan Magnussen (Sorensen Motorsport) 1:51.395
13 Vanina Ickx (Belgian VW/Audi Club) 1:51.396
14 Henry Lee Jr. (DSR Racing) 1:51.719
15 Ryo Michigami (DSR Racing) 1:51.834
16 Giovanni Lavaggi (Zakspeed) 1:51.997
17 Perry McCarthy (Dominic Racing Team) 1:52.032
18 Jean-Denis Deletraz (Zakspeed) 1:52.086
19 Bernd Schneider (Liqui Target) 1:52.386
20 Sven Heidfeld (Fischkopf Motorsports) 1:52.713
21 Marcus Winkelhock (Liqui Target) 1:52.889
22 Frank Biela (JLD Motorsport) 1:53.430
23 Pedro Diniz (JLD Motorsport) 1:53.562
24 Jose Manuel Perez-Aicart (Fischkopf Motorsports) 1:53.635

Some big surprises here, AP motorsport the new team using last year's Dominic Racing teams Opels, ended up 3rd and 7th at the end of the test. Speaking of Dominic Racing team, they are using the New Subaru legacy, but they only ended up 10th and 17th at the end of the test. Among the pay-drivers, Deletraz was the fastest of the four. Bernd was struggling for grip in his Liqui Target, only ended up 19th at the end of the test.

I may enter this series or the much more professional East European series to get my feet wet in this forum.

Any spots open for one more car and driver? though I feel like i wont have a chance without two drivers...

Also, can someone put a link up for last season's rules? since this topic only gives specs to the newest car available (Subaru Legacy)

Yes, but you need to locate a real driver on your own. Also, I would offer you to use the new Subaru Legacy for this season. Rejectfulness ensured! :D

Well, for the audi the stats will be off last year's JLD car: 10/9.53/8. At least you get christian abt for free but you still have to look for one more driver

However, subaru car stats are much better 15/14/11, but you have to look for two drivers.

I would suggest looking driversdb.com to get some ideas about drivers you could use. As long as the driver is not in the following series: F1, CART, IRL or NASCAR he is avaiable to use given if you could afford the pricetag I will give you.

the budget is 6000 EUR. So keep that in mind.

Well I would still like to see the page which has all the rules and specs of all the cars, as well as which manufacters still have open slots (im kind of the type that likes to know all of my options first.)

And I have to use drivers from real life for this series? Not to be rude, but I would like to start off a seires that lets me use my fictional drivers to get some XP, though I still find this series interesting enough to join and figure out how racing around here works

Also, you linked me to a site about computers

yes, you would have to use real-life drivers for this series.

Here's the pages for the previous 3 seasons

2002: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5567

2001: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5511

2000: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5260

And for the car stats, it's best to look at the 2000 season and work you way from there to try to figure out the mess that I previously made and still trying to solve!

I'll probably take the Subaru Legacy just to get a clean slate, instead of spending the rest of my life trying to figure out the specs of the other cars at standard, unupgraded level.

So what it the price of the Legacy? and how much is it for 2 drivers?

@JLD how am I supposed to be humiliatingly beaten by you if I use your cars? :D I'd rather start from scratch to see how terrible I am at this

A few things;

About your earlier post - this series is outwith the "RWRS Universe", ergo, driver XP is not relevant.
The cars are free regardless of the manufacturer you choose, you only have to pay for drivers and car upgrades.
The driver cost depends on who you sign. You can ask KL-Racer for a price of any driver and he'll give you it before you sign. The prices are based on real life ability, so a former F1 world champion like Mika Hakkinen will be expensive, while someone crap like Taki Inoue won't be. So, you can make a shortlist, ask him for the prices and pick out of the selection.
Just so you know, you could also take the Renaults, but, again, you would need to pay for two drivers yourself. I've been developing them for a year, so they should have reasonable stats, just ask KL-Racer for them.

Any spots open for one more car and driver? though I feel like i wont have a chance without two drivers...

Also, can someone put a link up for last season's rules? since this topic only gives specs to the newest car available (Subaru Legacy)

Well, for the audi the stats will be off last year's JLD car: 10/9.53/8. At least you get christian abt for free but you still have to look for one more driver

What? I was under the impression that any new customers' car stats would be based off the average of the car stats for existing customers. Man, spending 70% of my budget back in 2000 on Paul Radisich only to see him do sod all for the entire year is becoming more and more expensive by the minute.

Can I just point out that Radisich, Richard and Baird are Kiwis, not Australian? And why is Bairdo worth more than Radisich when the latter is clearly superior?

Sorry for the long delay, I have to spend time with my family. But now, I'm back to business. Here's the Round 1 Qualifying Results from Hockenheim

1 Olivier Beretta (Lamb Motorsports) 1:34.187
2 Jorg Muller (D2-Kabel Racing) 1:34.218
3 Johnny Cecotto (D2-Kabel Racing) 1:34.224
4 Timo Scheider (Lamb Motorsports) 1:34.225
5 Laurent Aiello (AP Motorsport) 1:34.420
6 Manuel Reuter (AP Motorsport) 1:34.527
7 Jean Alesi (Sorensen Motorsport) 1:34.748
8 Yvan Muller (Belgian VW/Audi Club) 1:35.008
9 Vanina Ickx (Belgian VW/Audi Club) 1:35.014
10 Hideki Noda (Dominic Racing Team) 1:35.251
11 Paul Rivett (Blokkmonsta Motorsport) 1:35.269
12 Jean-Marc Gounon (Warsteiner Renault) 1:35.330
13 Ryo Michigami (DSR Racing) 1:35.377
14 Jim Richards (Blokkmonsta Motorsport) 1:35.382
15 Perry McCarthy (Dominic Racing Team) 1:35.391
16 Alain Menu (Warsteiner Renault) 1:35.605
17 Jan Magnussen (Sorensen Motorsport) 1:35.702
18 Henry Lee Jr. (DSR Racing) 1:35.788
19 Jean-Denis Deletraz (Zakspeed) 1:36.015
20 Giovanni Lavaggi (Zakspeed) 1:36.159
21 Bernd Schneider (Liqui Target) 1:36.305
22 Marcus Winkelhock (Liqui Target) 1:36.839
23 Frank Biela (JLD Motorsport) 1:36.985
24 Jose Manuel Perez-Aicart (Fischkopf Motorsports) 1:37.357
25 Sven Heidfeld (Fischkopf Motorsports) 1:37.532
26 Pedro Diniz (JLD Motorsport) 1:37.857

Beretta on pole position and Jorg Muller besides him wasn't really a shock to anyone. But AP motorsport qualifying on row 3 was. Noda managed to qualify a Subaru into the top 10. The late entry Blokkmonsta cars qualify 11th and 14th. Zakspeed qualified 19th and 20th. Liqui target filled up row 11. While Diniz will start last on the grid. A slight disappointment for Magnussen, he qualified 17th and Lee Jr. got outqualified by Michigami.
