Round of Canada - Race 1PROSPEC
CAMERONWINSLOL. He was untouchable all race, and never looked like losing. Einhrin was, as usual, a bit less impressive, but continued his streak of scoring points in between his DNFs.
OCTAN
Jerry de Boer got some really bad luck during this race. On lap 3, he got punted off by Bannock at turn 8, and was spun by Nikolov on the penultimate lap, relegating him to the back of the field. Da Cunha has his usual race - anonymous and slow.
JONES
Sammy's heart must have been in his mouth on lap 2 when Nurmester and Dinella went into turn 1 with Walsh and Yorke alongside, making it four wide. Four went in, three came out, with Dinella left facing the wrong way. Nurmester would continue on to take a podium, while Dinella would spin again after being forced over the kerbing by Kwol-Cho at the final chicane.
WEST CLIFF
Both drivers were abysmal in qualifying, and had to fight through the field. Neither scored points, but both made the top 20.
KINGFISHER
Simpson came within a chicane of scoring Kingfisher's first point of the season, but unfortunately he was passed by Serevi. Still, that 16th will pretty much ensure Dofasco will never pass them. Al Abin was caught up in Hamalainen's wild ride and lost a front wing, dropping him to the back of the field.
PLUS ONE
Not only was it a double DNF for Plus One, they were the first two cars out. Hamalainen was the first to go, in a frightening crash at the hairpin on lap 1. He tried to go down the inside of Larsen under brakes, but clipped Larsen's rear wheel and was launched into the air and upside down. He then slid straight on, taking out al Abin as he rounded the hairpin. Hamalainen's came to a stop, right side up, where he had to be assisted from his car and was taken immediately to the medical centre. As for Harmsky, his race ended on lap 3 when his gearbox crapped itself while running third.
LINTON-SOLINDAHL
MacDrage had a poor race, after nearly driving straight into the Wall of Champions while being passed by Blanchett and being spun by Kwol-Cho later. LeClerc was slow as usual until his gearbox failed.
ZOMBIEKART
Walsh didn't have the pace to match the leaders, and wasn't helped by spending most of the race stuck behind Joel Melrose. Still, thanks to some DNFs up front he managed 6th, which has only cost him the lead of the championship by two points. Bannock was also pretty good, except for punting off de Boer.
NEBULA
Torrente wasn't overly quick in race trim today, but he lose much ground, still recording a top 20. Mazzacane was matching him all race until his gearbox broke on lap 11.
AERORACING
Gary Pacer was cheated out of a podium by a gearbox problem on the second last lap, but that meant Terenzio Nicchi could become the hero of the day, with a sensational fourth place finish. From 16th place, this was an exceptional debut drive, making others look simply average.
MAZZACANE
Both cars were in the points, with 8th for Yorke and 12th for Suomanen. While the Finn couldn't hold off faster cars, including Yorke, it was still a solid effort. Yorke could have been higher, had he not been spun late in the race by Melrose.
IBR
As usual, Hannesson was in contention for a podium when his car let him down, this time with a suspension failure. Thus, once again it was Pykalisto who had to the scoring, with a 10th place finish and a brilliant effort to hold off Einhrin.
ZIMSPORT
Blanchett experienced the curse of the Supercheap Auto car with a gearbox problem at half distance, but did what few drivers have managed for ZimSport - she moved forward. In fact, by lap 6 she was almost in the points. Kickert, after an excellent qualifying, fell backwards to 9th by the end.
RESTOV
Serevi snatched the final point from Kingfisher at the final corner, but will pick up some penalty points for passing Mazzacane under yellows at turn 1 for Hannesson's parked car. Once again for Obolensky, a poor qualifying resulted in a poor result, despite gaining 14 places during the race.
PORTO WINE
Mondlane has a habit of sneaking under the radar, and that's when he's at his best, scoring two more points for Porto Wine without anyone noticing. He certainly made Carlinho look crap, who struggled all race to pass da Cunha's Octan.
RED BULL
A very good day out for Taki, who took 5th place thanks to an early pass on Melrose. Hamilton made ground, but not enough to score points.
DSR
Gonzalez had an early spin after making a mistake at the last chicane, but still made Nikolov look bad. Nikolov will pick up penalty points as well for spinning de Boer late in the race.
JLD
Piscine finally managed to go a race without crashing or having something break, taking second place. Melrose did his job by creating a very long train behind him, allowing Piscine enough ground to stay ahead of everyone when they finally got by, and managed to hold on for 7th, but will get penalty points for spinning Yorke.
KAMAHA
Desai's race came to an early end with an oil leak, while Kwol-Cho was just plain slow. He spun MacDrage after the Scot got by, and had a hand in spinning Dinella late in the race. The fact that he was almost beaten by a Dofasco on merit speaks volumes about his race.
DOFASCO
Any hopes Samelko had of being competitive were dashed when he forced into the pits with an electrical issue, while Maylander trundled around the back of the field for a while, which nearly allowed him to make a legitimate pass for the first time this season on Kwol-Cho.
NURMINEN
The NREs finished line astern in 22nd and 23rd, less than a tenth of a second apart. Larsen, racing for his job, almost had it ruined by Hamalainen. After he was hit, he lost a few spots trying not to find the fence. That said, the fact that he nearly beat Cinotti at the death says something about Cinotti's average day.
